The Admiral in Glasgow City

We were staying at a hotel on the same street. Stopped in for a pint and when we saw tables nearby getting their food we couldn’t resist, it all looked to good. Pizza and macaroni were both really tasty. The pizza is thin and authentic. Not your average pub pizza. We shared the pizza and macaroni between two along with 3 of the small plates for £16. The small plates are so generous I think we could have just had those to be honest but they boxed our leftovers and we took it away for later. Great value for money. So glad we popped in.

I am pleased to report that the new Admiral Woods mac and cheese is just as good as the old Admiral bar. Three little pigs takes some beating but all the options are superb. Plus service, ambience and beer selection are as good as anywhere in town.

Great pub near Glasgow Central. I keep going back for the Supertramp Mac & Cheese. Best I have tasted! The staff are very attentive as soon as you’re at the bar and even when getting served other staff are checking if you are being served. Highly recommended if you’re in town!

We had visited the previous Admiral bar which we had enjoyed and we were also impressed with this one. We had ordered Prosecco but unfortunately it was flat however the member of staff behind the bar was very accommodating and changed it without any problem so very happy with the customer service given. If you are visiting Glasgow I would definitely recommend stopping there for a drink

Nice new bar glad to see the admiral back up and running. Food was good. Lucas was fantastic and very friendly. Made our trip worth coming back.

as advertised on the news the old admiral has now closed and has moved to the woods bar further down street.believe it is going to be called the admiral woods.if you were a regular in old admiral you will see a big difference.the woods is a big spacy bar with plenty seating for food etc. drank in both bars and found them both ok in different ways,be a matter of getting used to this place as the new admiral bar.really nice pub and can get really busy.believe they are introducing live music as well.plenty of bars round about as well,so a pub crawl is really easy without walking to far.all in all great place to meet after work or for a night out.

I hear that this pub is to close down. Good riddance. Cheeky bouncers, poor people skills, relying on some kind of poorly deserved reputation

Great pub. Good selection of beers and helpful, friendly staff. A wee bit off the beaten track at middle of Waterloo Street but perfectly situated opposite bus stop for the 77 service back to kilmarnock. Last but not least, their Mac n cheese with salt and pepper fries is absolutely fantastic! Just had my last couple of pints before the bar closes it's doors forever. 20 years of drinking there opposite the bus stop home to killie. Thanks for the memories and I will miss you forever #Admiralbar.

Went in Wednesday wife and I a few drinks and nice food hadn't been for years had to go as I used to work there in the early 80s was a good place back then staff from brit oil spent a fortune on a Friday got some good memories and tales to tell manager gordon from ek and Lorraine from South side were great to work for good memories

What a shame that this Glasgow institution is closing soon.

Back for a drink and dinner for old times sake as its closing..place was really busy and everyone had a fab night..such a shame its being forced to close. Very sad

Great iconic pub in Waterloo Street, been there for as long as I can remember. My wife worked there in the early 70's & I had my Stag night downstairs in 1975 & I ended up DJ'ing there late 70s early 80s. Lots of good memories in this place. Was great popping in for a Guinness, which was spot on, nice staff and a nice vibe about the place....

This is a traditional Scottish pub with a lot of sturdy wood. It’s a real shame that it’ll close soon. We liked the menu especially the different options of macaroni cheese. A big plate of food and very tasty.

Amazing find!! Old looking bar from outside...don't let that put you off! Food was fab. Pizza amazing, wings and hot salty chips fab. Drinks very reasonable plus a wide range of age groups for a sat afternoon which felt really nice. Staff were great, friendly and helpful. When I'm back in the city here I will be going.

Great traditional Glasgow pub. It's just a shame that it will be closing down for good in March (11/3/2023) for "site redevelopment"... I'd have preferred the site to stay as it is.

Nice little bar will a wide range of beers . A good space for events / pub quiz downstairs.

For some reason it was too crowded. There is no music at all, but it's very crowded. It doesn't seem cheap as well, but if we have more crowd it's good right, at least they are not selling old stuff

We went to see Ian Prowse here, and it was our first visit to the pub/venue, and not sure why we haven't heard of more bands playing here. the pub itself was busy but the staff were quick to serve and helpful with the selection of drinks. The venue downstairs is self-contained with its own bar and toilets (a big thig for me). The gig itself was sold out but not crowded and the sound was excellent. I hope more bands play here....

Always a good meal and drink at this spot... Gutted they don't do Philly Cheesesteak anymore

Visited for food and drinks prior to going to a gig. Our first choice of burger wasn’t available however we went with our waiters recommendation and wasn’t disappointed. Although we didn’t need it we both also had the sticky toffee pudding which again was good. Good, friendly service with a nice vibe. Also sensibly priced. Will return on our next visit to Glasgow.

Best macaroni you'll ever taste

I love this bar and visit regularly. Despite being in the city centre, it’s a little off the main streets, and has survived as an old school Glasgow pup. It has great staff, a good selection of reasonably priced drinks (for the city centre) and you can usually get a seat.

Lovely dinner with my husband & son. We arrived in glasgow this afternoon. Our first time in glasgow to drop my son off at the uni. Found this nice bar and decided to try it. Wonderful food. Had minestrone soup (best we have ever tasted) , burgers and mac&cheese. Staff are so friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!!

A group of us reserved a couple of tables last night and the service we received was first class. We also ordered food, which was excellent and perfect for our needs. Many thanks to all of the staff for contributing to a brilliant night.

I'd only been in to the admiral previously for drinks or to watch bands but internally graded it as a "good boozer". Several years since my last visit I popped in on way home after a big exam. The staff immediately engaged me in some amusing dialogue and waxed lyrical on the food menu. I was intrigued but not hungry so promised to return. Roll forward to 2 months later me and the fam finally made it here for food and we were not disappointed. The chilli cheesesteak sandwich delivered on what the sandwhich should be...hot, fresh, soft bread, piquant cheese, tender thìnly sliced steak, perfectly done green peppers and a good heat from the chilli. The macaroni cheese surpassed expectations. The cheese sauce was like a fluffy cheesy cloud around the pasta and perfectly grilled on top. The smoked chilli fries were an inspiration, I'm definitely adding my smoked paprika to my chips in future. I had the Thai style cold noodle salad with extra grilled chicken. I was very impressed as it tasted fresh made. I make Thai noodle salad at home and the rice noodles quickly lose their molecular integrity but this was beautifully presented, crunchy veg, delicious fresh coriander lime and peanut sauce and al dente flat noodles. Last, but not least, all the staff were amazing. The first server - didn't get the name but petite with very long dark wavy hair - sat us straight away, served our drinks and took our food order within minutes. No notepad on site but got our order out perfectly. I thought "wow what a good server" but everyone who dealt with us after were above average in customer service also. We will be back.

This an excellent old style pub just out of the very center of Glasgow (7/8 min walk from central station). Much bigger inside than it would seem from outside. Sells a good assortment of premium drinks at reasonable prices. Staff are great too. We'll worth a visit, good atmosphere.

Great pub, staff polite, great place to go before getting bus home

Used the function suite downstairs. Ok place with dance floor DJ booth and seating. Beer was a bit expensive and buffet was nice albeit mostly hot food (pizza pakora etc) that went cold. Staff were quick to serve and polite. Bit weird having plastic glasses though when paying over £5 for a pint. Overall a good venue for a party or small event. There is an upstairs bar as well.

Staff were excellent drinks were reasonably priced, but was like a sauna inside the place, oppressively hot.

We loved our meal here! Our waiter was very friendly and energetic, made an amazing cocktail and even knew a few words in Romanian, my native language. I tried the burger with haggis in it and it was delicious! Definitely worth visiting! We left the pub full, tipsy and happy.

Stopped here for a mid-afternoon late lunch. Good selection on the menu but I wasn't that hungry so my hubby had the classic mac n cheese with the understanding that I would just have a few of his chips. I'm not even a big mac n cheese fan but ended up eating about half of his, especially liked the topping where the cheese is nice and grilled. It was a generous portion anyway so I didn't feel too guilty 😁. Loved the bar decor, would be nice and cosy at night. Lots of seating available too. Will def come back for food and drinks next time we're in Glasgow.

Went in for a working lunch. Had prebooked a table on open table but the pub wasn't overly busy. I had macaroni and chips, thee most homey and tasty ever! Our server was the happiest guy I've met in a long time, so nice to see. Will be back for more lunches as I return to the office!

An enjoyable venue as a musician. Only let down was the plastic pint tumblers. A sign of the times though, I guess

Haven't been for ages so it was good to be back. Various seating arrangements, tables with chairs, high barseats are both available, plenty. Staff was friendly, toilet was clean and "well-stuffed" - tp, soap, and even feminine products.

Great bar for after football with friends. Great staff and food good as well.

Fantastic little pub. Great staff. I got served quickly even while it was very busy. I got the mac and cheese which was proper tasty! Worth going just for the food honestly. One thing to mention is guy on the door was rude to us for no reason. Eventually let us in but he acted as if we were wasting his time trying to get in, very bizarre power trip.

Nice bar, well priced drinks with a decent selection of ales and malt whiskies. Good range of pub food also. Venue a lot larger than looks from outside and has areas that can be reserved for small groups. No phone signal inside back of building but free WiFi available .

A traditional bar with original tiles and eye catching stained glass panels. We visited on a Thursday lunchtime, clientele was a good mix of locals and office workers, and there was a easy laidback vibe. Good selection on draft and they pour an excellent, creamy...
