The Admiral in Glasgow City

Great pub. Good selection of beers and helpful, friendly staff. A wee bit off the beaten track at middle of Waterloo Street but perfectly situated opposite bus stop for the 77 service back to kilmarnock. Last but not least, their Mac n cheese with salt and pepper fries is absolutely fantastic! Just had my last couple of pints before the bar closes it's doors forever. 20 years of drinking there opposite the bus stop home to killie. Thanks for the memories and I will miss you forever #Admiralbar.

Went in Wednesday wife and I a few drinks and nice food hadn't been for years had to go as I used to work there in the early 80s was a good place back then staff from brit oil spent a fortune on a Friday got some good memories and tales to tell manager gordon from ek and Lorraine from South side were great to work for good memories

What a shame that this Glasgow institution is closing soon.

Back for a drink and dinner for old times sake as its closing..place was really busy and everyone had a fab night..such a shame its being forced to close. Very sad

Great iconic pub in Waterloo Street, been there for as long as I can remember. My wife worked there in the early 70's & I had my Stag night downstairs in 1975 & I ended up DJ'ing there late 70s early 80s. Lots of good memories in this place. Was great popping in for a Guinness, which was spot on, nice staff and a nice vibe about the place....

Amazing find!! Old looking bar from outside...don't let that put you off! Food was fab. Pizza amazing, wings and hot salty chips fab. Drinks very reasonable plus a wide range of age groups for a sat afternoon which felt really nice. Staff were great, friendly and helpful. When I'm back in the city here I will be going.

Great traditional Glasgow pub. It's just a shame that it will be closing down for good in March (11/3/2023) for "site redevelopment"... I'd have preferred the site to stay as it is.

For some reason it was too crowded. There is no music at all, but it's very crowded. It doesn't seem cheap as well, but if we have more crowd it's good right, at least they are not selling old stuff

A group of us reserved a couple of tables last night and the service we received was first class. We also ordered food, which was excellent and perfect for our needs. Many thanks to all of the staff for contributing to a brilliant night.

I'd only been in to the admiral previously for drinks or to watch bands but internally graded it as a "good boozer". Several years since my last visit I popped in on way home after a big exam. The staff immediately engaged me in some amusing dialogue and waxed lyrical on the food menu. I was intrigued but not hungry so promised to return. Roll forward to 2 months later me and the fam finally made it here for food and we were not disappointed. The chilli cheesesteak sandwich delivered on what the sandwhich should be...hot, fresh, soft bread, piquant cheese, tender thìnly sliced steak, perfectly done green peppers and a good heat from the chilli. The macaroni cheese surpassed expectations. The cheese sauce was like a fluffy cheesy cloud around the pasta and perfectly grilled on top. The smoked chilli fries were an inspiration, I'm definitely adding my smoked paprika to my chips in future. I had the Thai style cold noodle salad with extra grilled chicken. I was very impressed as it tasted fresh made. I make Thai noodle salad at home and the rice noodles quickly lose their molecular integrity but this was beautifully presented, crunchy veg, delicious fresh coriander lime and peanut sauce and al dente flat noodles. Last, but not least, all the staff were amazing. The first server - didn't get the name but petite with very long dark wavy hair - sat us straight away, served our drinks and took our food order within minutes. No notepad on site but got our order out perfectly. I thought "wow what a good server" but everyone who dealt with us after were above average in customer service also. We will be back.

This an excellent old style pub just out of the very center of Glasgow (7/8 min walk from central station). Much bigger inside than it would seem from outside. Sells a good assortment of premium drinks at reasonable prices. Staff are great too. We'll worth a visit, good atmosphere.

Fantastic food and very friendly staff.

Used the function suite downstairs. Ok place with dance floor DJ booth and seating. Beer was a bit expensive and buffet was nice albeit mostly hot food (pizza pakora etc) that went cold. Staff were quick to serve and polite. Bit weird having plastic glasses though when paying over £5 for a pint. Overall a good venue for a party or small event. There is an upstairs bar as well.

Staff were excellent drinks were reasonably priced, but was like a sauna inside the place, oppressively hot.

We loved our meal here! Our waiter was very friendly and energetic, made an amazing cocktail and even knew a few words in Romanian, my native language. I tried the burger with haggis in it and it was delicious! Definitely worth visiting! We left the pub full, tipsy and happy.

Went in for a working lunch. Had prebooked a table on open table but the pub wasn't overly busy. I had macaroni and chips, thee most homey and tasty ever! Our server was the happiest guy I've met in a long time, so nice to see. Will be back for more lunches as I return to the office!

An enjoyable venue as a musician. Only let down was the plastic pint tumblers. A sign of the times though, I guess

Haven't been for ages so it was good to be back. Various seating arrangements, tables with chairs, high barseats are both available, plenty. Staff was friendly, toilet was clean and "well-stuffed" - tp, soap, and even feminine products.

Fantastic little pub. Great staff. I got served quickly even while it was very busy. I got the mac and cheese which was proper tasty! Worth going just for the food honestly. One thing to mention is guy on the door was rude to us for no reason. Eventually let us in but he acted as if we were wasting his time trying to get in, very bizarre power trip.

Nice bar, well priced drinks with a decent selection of ales and malt whiskies. Good range of pub food also. Venue a lot larger than looks from outside and has areas that can be reserved for small groups. No phone signal inside back of building but free WiFi available .

My favourite pub in town . I started work nearby in 1987, been I.D.'d hunners then. Now I'll bring folk from all over the world to it.

It was beautiful place having enough space for sitting and drinking.It has wide ranges of drinks available to suite everybody's need.

The staff went above and beyond to find my colleagues a table, which was reserved at 9pm but we'd be long gone by then. Fun wholesome atmosphere, speedy service with a smile. (An aside: all the male staff had ridiculously beautiful hair)

Family Doo downstairs in the lounge. Music loud, stairs a wee bit steep for old bones! Plastic tumblers and tiny spirit measures, however, great company, brilliant having a get together with all the family . I will say the buffet was outstanding, staff brought it out on plates and trays to every table. Piping hot pizza, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, pakora, sandwiches and plenty of it. Had to leave at 10pm as had an under 18 year old, bur certainly good time had by all.

A cracken city centre bar without the city centre hassle. Great lay out and brilliant selection of food and drink. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly and always happy to help. A pub for all occasions.

Not impressed at all pub was dead no entertainment poor steward at door with really bad attitude towards customers obviously pub are happy for him to turn away customers on a quiet night on the plus side bar staffs attitude excellent and service too was good

Absolutely horrendous doorman who was rude and obnoxious especially to my friends from England. If you have ever consumed an alcoholic drink before entering these premises you are deemed to be intoxicated according to the so called Manageress who actually hung up the phone to me while on a call .

Absolutely fantastic little find. Only had drinks but staff very friendly. Good atmosphere food smelt very nice and the prices were good. Next time in Glasgow will definitely be having a meal 👍🏻
