An impromptu visit vs staying at home in the kitchen! Staff very attentive and service was quick and accurate. Ordered: tomato soup of the day - very good Breaded cod and chips - fish lovely, chips were average. Haggis neeps and tatties - very good with extra sauce Apple pie with caramel and custard - OK ish On the down side our meal coincided with a large table celebrating a birthday - not conducive to a quiet dinner for two, not their fault. All in all satisfied with the experience even if a little pricey

We hadn't been to the Abbotsford for a while and noticed that the menu had been updated. I thought southern fried chicken sounded good, and it tasted even better. Colonel Sanders w ould be green with envy. Rhubarb crumble was a special ans was equally delicious. One word of warning, the portions are very generous, so make sure you work up an appetite beforehand. We will definitely be back again soon.

Stayed for a night to break up travel between the Lake District and Tarbert. Was pessimistic from the looks of the outside, but was pleasantly surprised by the room, staff, bar and restaurant. Probably not somewhere you’d stay for longer than a night, but would highly recommend if you’re passing through.

The Abbotsford Restaurant is just unexplainably amazing. There are many key points that just make this a wonderful dining place: • The service is fast and requests are always carried out exactly as you ask • The staff are just so happy and kind to you and very welcoming in general • Food is always perfect to every standard • Cleanliness of the restaurant is spot in and swift if there is an accident Overall the experience is so welcoming and delicious, and most of the time don’t take too much of your evening due to the speedy service by the staff. Would 100% recommend to anybody who has even a single evening free 👍

This is a regular place to visit for lunch for us. The menu is excellent and wide ranging, including pescatarian, ova-lactarian and Vegan options, and the owners and staff are always pleasant and helpful, and will respond positively to reasonable requests "eg, could I have the chilli con carne, but hot please?" or valid criticisms like "this dish was far too salty".

The mac & cheese bites were delectable. The batter was so crisped, yet the inside so warm and gooey. It told us it came with tomato sauce, but it exceeded all expectations. The lemonade was very interesting. It was very bubbly, but wasn't very fizzy. Still delicious and highly recommended. The main was absolutely incredible. The chicken fajitas came bubbling. It was insane. It was incredibly spicy but still was tasty. The veggie enchilada was delectable. The flavour was so unique and many stir-fry vegetables and still kept a level of spice. Recommended tomato over creamy sauce. There is nothing that could compare to the dessert of Belgian waffles. It came with an addition of caramel, chocolate sauce, and ice cream. Truly

We chose to have mains only, as we had bought a variety of seafood starters..Once again, James and his staff surpassed themselves. We had a traditional meal consisting of roast turkey dark meat, light meat, stuffing, and pigs in blankets withsimple re-heating instructions, and separate carton of turkey gravy, This was accompanied by potatoes cooked 3 ways, and freshly-cooked carrots, parsnips and and sprouts. Once again far more than we could eat. Keep up the good work,and A Happy New Year to you all.

Our third or fourth consecutive Family Christmas lunch here. Always a good choice on the menu with friendly, efficient staff and service. As a regular attender for lunch throughout the year, I would find difficulty criticising this place.

We stopped here because we needed to stay in the area for the night and there were not too many other options. The place was very basic - clean and tidy but not much more than that. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good - lots of choices and fresh-cooked options. Unless you actually need to stay in Dumbarton, I would suggest you skip this place and find somewhere in Balloch just up the road.

Lentil soup hadn't cooked enough for the individual lentils to have broken down and was too salty. Burger was disappointing, tasteless. The only bright spot on the horizon was the service. Pearl was a star. Won't be returning. Too expensive to be disappointed a second time.

This is a restaurant myself and my wife visit fairly often as the food is really delicious and the restaurant itself has nice decor making for a comfortable environment but is it really all positive?This restaurant is based in a hotel but when we have visited it is often fairly quiet (we often visit at lunch time) which is in part due to the number of people who eat in the bar area of this hotel. The fact the restaurant is quiet means my wife and I enjoy the quietness as it means you are able to sit and have a conversation and be able to hear each other but as the bar area is busier it can often mean that there are no staff in the restaurant area and so this can lead to slow service (especially when it comes to getting the bill where we have waited 30 minutes to get the attention of a staff member). The staff are really friendly and professional but it is down to lack of service sometimes that it can frustrate.The food itself is very tasty and gives a good portion size so whilst the food is more expensive than other restaurants in the area I consider this a decent value for money when taking into consideration the setting (being in a hotel does mean restaurants are often more expensive), the quality of food and the portion sizes.The menu offers up a few options although I do think it could offer a bit more choice as I know I often order the same thing but unless you can get a favourite item it does mean the options are somewhat limited.Overall this is a nice restaurant with good quality food and a friendly, professional staff but the lack of service when the restaurant is quiet does mean you can end up having a much longer lunch than you originally planned as you try to get another drink or just the bill.

I come here as often as my purse allows me to!! Service is always great, everyone is friendly. Food has never disappointed me and the menu is great for everyone. Visited yesterday and again left happy and full! Had gone fully intending to have a sandwich but their special of the day was Chicken Stroganoff, how could I resist?!!Can't wait to return.

Had a lovely evening meal, spicy chicken and the steak pie for me. The chicken was very good but the steak pie was excellent, nice bit of steak. The dessert menu is very good, a great variety and all very well priced. Overall a great dinner, very well priced and topped off with excellent staff who were efficient and very pleasant. Thank you.

The outside of this hotel does not do it justice, staff where really nice and accommodating, food was amazing.

Friendly establishment with great food. Never look at the menu as I always have the black pepper salmon. Best around and always served with fresh seasonal vegetables.

Although there are a number of gluten free options on the menu, on all of our visits there has always been something unavailable from the menu.

Now on me and my girlfriends regular go to places for food, service is great and the food is excellent as well.

As this is quite local for us we like to use this restaurant for special occasions or just a bar meal. Food always freshly made and a good variety on the menu. Recommend creamy enchiladas or Bang Bang chicken. Once you have finished you can move into the lounge for a drink or two. Staff very attentive and friendly ideal location for weddings and other celebrations.

The building from outside looks like you probably don't want to eat there but you would be wrong... the food is good. The restaurant is very popular and there was a good buzz of people enjoying themselves. The staff are super friendly and service was good. The menu is extensive. Good pub restaurant type of food. Large portions, well cooked and tasty. I can recommend the cajun chicken

They must have a very good chef as the food is prepared and presented to perfection. So tasty, I eat there several times more than I had originally planned.

We passed this hotel numerous times and discounted eating there as the outside didn’t look very appealing however after reading tripadvisor review we decided to give the restaurant a try and I’m so glad we did.

We were staying in Dumbarton for a few days to attend a wedding, and didn't know where to go to eat so picked this as it was nearby and the reviews looked good. The look of the building outside is not very inviting but the welcome in the restaurant was! We sat in the bar part, in a booth, and got very good friendly service from the start even though we had not booked. Lovely food, I had haggis and partner had venison. Good value.

We stopped here for lunch as we were in the area. We had visited a few months ago and were happy to make a return visit. Great menu and great value with friendly staff. On this occasion I had the salmon fajita and couldn’t believe the plateful and all the trimmings. My husband had the mac and cheese with hand cut chips and mum had haggis neeps and tatties. Both cleared their plates, as I did and were very satisfied. We rounded off with coffees which were lovely. We’ll be happy to visit again fairly soon.

A good place for a pit stop if travelling through here on the way up north, or indeed if you live in the locality. Restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. Food is very nicely cooked and very well presented. Portion sizes were good too. Definitely recommend a visit here if your passing.

Had a fabulous meal, staff very friendly and curtious. Service was great had a nice time and would thoroughly recommend.

My brother recommended this place. For years when I lived in Helensburgh and commuted to Clydebank I would pass this place twice a day without even a thought of stopping in. My son and I had just travelled overnight from North Carolina and we're starving by the time we arrived in Glasgow via Heathrow. The steak pie and chips was excellent and the 80/- pint was perfect. Staff very welcoming.

Food dripping in grease returned, second choice not much better, not eaten, would certainly not rush back

We came with my mum on her recommendation and we were not disappointed. Great environment, great menu and great friendly service. Mum and I had chicken enchiladas and my husband had Haggis, Neeps and Tatties with whisky sauce. No complaints from any of us and clean plates all round. Despite having no room, one dessert was ordered - the special - caramel crunch cheesecake. Luckily the staff read our minds and brought 3 sets of cutlery. I would make a visit here for this alone and I don’t really do desserts. Great value for money and we will return.

Me and my girlfriend frequent here as the food is usually great and the price is always brilliant! Only reason I say usually is because a couple of times of the many the food wasn’t up to the standards I’ve had but it’s never bad. Highly recommended and the drink selection is great as well!

Went here for my niece's birthday. "FRESH FISH" the menu proudly displayed. A few of us had starters and this is where it began to go wrong.....they don't serve the main course until EVERYONE has finished their starters but they cooked the main course and just left it sitting in their kitchen waiting on the last person at the table finished their starter. The batter on the fish just disintegrated and the fish was as dry as a bone and just crumbled into mash. It was quite simply the worst I have ever had. The "hotel" looked like it hadn't been decorated since the early 1960's.....decadent would be an understatement! It was noted that not one single waiter/waitress approached us to ask "if everything was ok". Under normal circumstances I would have had no hesitation in complaining but I was under strict instructions from my partner that I was not "to cause a scene at my niece's birthday". For 3 days I ran the guts out of myself and within a week I found out that other family members had also been the same. I thought it was the disgusting lager they sold but the others had not drunk lager. Then I asked my partner to find out what the others (who were ill) had to eat and the same answer came bak from all of them, "fish". You would be well advised to follow the instructions in the title of this review!

Stayed for 3 nights here. Room lovely, staff unbelievably attentive, Food great, very reasonably priced, comfortable, nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Very busy and im not suprised. I belueve this should be more than a 3 star, really enjoyed stay. Woukd highly recommend.

This establishment has just been redecorated in the last year. We were brought here for a supper by family and now we know why.

Really nice food, cocktails and good service. A good stopover on the way to Glasgow or north on the A82. Highly recommended!

I really dident think a restaurant in a hotel would be as nice and the food so good as this one the service was really good the menu choices really great the presentation of the food in wonderful surroundings with great decor

I regularly eat at the Hotel as I live locally. The service is first class, we are always greeted as soon as we walk in, there is never any wait for seating, menus and drink orders. The staff are all so lovely and attentive and smart. The food is amazing, lots to choose from and value for money....big portions too.

We had two evening meals in the restaurant and everything we had was great. The staff are so pleasant it made dinner a delight and the food was all delicious. Portion sizes were generous and it was well priced. The best thing was the unusual and amazing cocktails. Awesome

We got married in the Abbotsford Hotel in June this year...

After a lovely visit with family, I was treated to a lovely meal out. The staff were so friendly when we arrived, advising us of the daily special then giving us time to make our choices. The food when it arrived was fantastic, I would certainly recommend if you are in the area.

Wir waren während unseres Kurzaufenthalts im angrenzenden Hotel hier zum Abendessen. Die Auswahl in der Karte war nicht übermäßig aber doch ausreichend. Es sollte für jeden etwas dabei sein. Die freundliche Mitarbeiterin kam sofort mit den Speisekarten und auch auf das Essen mussten wir nicht lange warten. Unsere Essen waren sehr lecker und die Portionen zeimlich groß. Dafür waren die Preise absolut angemessen.

Having moved out of our home after 29 years we were unable to take up residence in our new home as a result we stayed for 1 week in the Abbotsford Hotel. This is a family run hotel which caters for all needs, the accomodation is excellent as is the food. We found that the staff were very welcoming and in their own way pampered us making our visit very comfortable. This hotel caters not only for the local area but for visitors from all over the world..We will continue to frequent this establishment regularly.

Service and food was up to the usual standard. The problem is, they have such a wide choice on the menu, it can be difficult deciding what to have.

Haven’t been for a meal here for a few months, have to say it’s not changed, friendly staff and good food. I would recommend the bang bang chicken it’s a bit different from my usual type of food but really nice, the black pudding Bon Bon’s were a perfect starter!

Staff always friendly and food fantastic I had the sizzling Cajun chicken my husband had enchaladas. Kids meals start at only £2.75 bargain and the maccaroni is excellent too

It's worth going out of your way a little to visit the Abbotsford. Great food and plenty of it served by friendly staff. The problem is knowing what to choose.

Here with family for lunch and once again it was lovely, the food was excellent, large portions at a very reasonable price. We had 1 very small problem with my daughter's meal and it was replaced very quickly and the staff were very apologetic and it was dealt with in a very professional manner, great service which you do not always get these days. I would highly recommend this place and will be back very soon. Thanks again for a great lunch.

Very enjoyable experience, the service was excellent, a full choice of menu and even though the hotel was busy there was not a shortage of staff to look after you. Ienjoyed my visit

I am vegetarian, and therefore I can only comment on the veggie options. In my opinion, the meals here are among the best in Dumbarton for any vegetarian. A good, varied choice of meals, which is not often the case. The staff were very attentive and help to create a nice ambience.

A happy occasion with grandchildren stayed overnight in a lovely family room . Also dined in and was joined by other family .A very pleasant experience comfort and eating of the best standard

One night stop over on way back from completing the NC 500. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. Fresh and so different to some of the grill food one gets in the pubs attached to other hotel chains.

The meal and service were both first class and made up for the long trek to my room from the main body of the hotel. The restaurant was very busy but I was served quite promptly.

Visited on a Wednesday night for my Dad's Birthday. Shown to our seats and drinks order was taken swiftly - a good start! However that's where the good service ended. I had to shout the waitress across after 15 minutes to ask if we could now place our food order. Starters arrived after a short while and it was another 45/50 minutes before our main courses arrived - I'm sure we would still be waiting if I hadn't asked if they could chase our food up in the kitchen! I also had to ask where our second round of drinks had disappeared to as we had been sitting with empty glasses for ages.My Wife asked for extra sour cream during her main meal which never arrived! We then asked to see the dessert menu which (surprise surprise) also never arrived! So we got the bill and left. Everyone agreed the food was tasty (and hot) although the chicken sizzler size was poor and my wife's salad with her main meal was more like a second thought - just not enough of it. We were looking forward to dessert but as I said earlier this never happened unfortunately and we ended up stopping off at M&S Garage on the way home instead!The staff advised they were extremely busy for a Wednesday evening. Surely if they allowed table bookings before 19:30 this could have been accounted for and more staff drafted in? We did feel sorry for the young girl serving, she was very pleasant and did look run off her feet in fairness.What should have been a celebration was slightly dampened by the poor service - it's been a long time since I have experienced anything like that. An offer of a round of drinks may have softened the long wait (although we'd probably still be waiting for them!) but lessons to be learned Abbotsford!Won't rush back despite the food being tasty which is a real shame!

Went in Friday for meal with friends and was 1st Class great service and meal was fantastic. We went for the Rib Eye Stake as was done to perfection and service was very good

We went here twice for lunch as it was a good meeting point & were very happy with it on both occasions. Although the décor is a bit old-fashioned the food was very good with lots of choices at reasonable prices. The service was very good and then we were left to talk and catch up without being rushed off the premises. Would recommend if you want good solid fare and either smaller or larger number of courses.

I have eaten in this hotel many times for both lunch and dinner and I have never had a bad meal and the staff have always been polite and helpful

We called here on the way to our holiday accommodation, a long journey so we wanted a snack. That wasn't a problem. We had 2 starters which was more than enough and the food was good. The staff were very friendly and everything was fine. It was rather dark inside but we would recommend this restaurant. The food we saw being served to other guests looked lovely.

Haven't been to Abottsford for a while, however wasn't disappointed.Food was excellent, service too and prices are really very reasonable.The menu is very extensive and there must be something there to suit all tastes. The Kids menu also had a lot of choice.

We came in for our breakfast ~ very accommodating. Absolutely lovely, friendly staff. The breakfast was fab. Noticed it is very busy for dinner, especially Saturday night.

Easy to get to, good parking, well laid out dining areas, bars comfy and spacious, good service, and the meals are top notch.I have been there often and will still go there, a good night out for friends and family or courting couples, recommended.

We find ourselves frequenting the Abbotsford more often these days. Even although we have a good selection of eating places within walking distance, it's worth the effort to head down here. Great selection on the menu and always delicious.

After being out shopping we decided Togo to this restaurant for our dinner as a party of four i ordered the prawn cocktail which I really enjoyed followed by the ribeye steak which unfortunately I found to be bland to finish I had chocolate torte would return but have something other than steak from the menu.

As a party of 7 people we were seated quickly, they catered for a fussy childs meal with no fuss, the choices on their set menu for easter catered for all tastes and great value for money £18.99 for 3 courses . Staff were very friendly and made our family day out most enjoyable .

My partner won the Facebook competition so we thought we'd go along for a little treat. The food was really nice, staff were exceptional and then we got the bill...I expected to pay for drinks, that would be reasonable. I was handed a bill for £19 and it turns out only one meal is free, which I feel is extremely misleading. Effectively it makes it a 2 for 1 or 50% off deal and that's something a lot of restaurants offer. Left a lot of ill-feeling on my part and feel a little cheated. It's a shame as would otherwise have visited again.

We attended the Abbotsford Hotel Restaurant as part of a group for a birthday celebration. The service was quick and efficient. However, some of the food wasn't that great. Mainly the 3 people who ordered macaroni cheese were disappointed in the taste. I have been for dinner before at this restaurant and had macaroni previously, which tasted great. However the macaroni this time was bland, tasteless and not very appetising - even after applying seasoning. I'm unsure whether they have changed the chef or the recipe that they use, but we weren't impressed. The others in the party had no complaints about their dishes.

We enjoyed a Sunday lunch in this hotel - well worth a visit . Staff very friendly and helpful - food was excellent - as there was 10 in the party we all enjoyed the excellent menu .Would recommend this for family or friends gathering.If anything the only drawback is the entrance - travelling north on A82 the access is very easily - but if travelling south the access is through a car sales garage, but other than that everything was excellent.There is plenty of car parking available and disabled parking at the entrance.Try this hotel - it is really good.

A great family run hotel,all the staff from the managers down are wonderful, very helpful and courteous. They are all willing to go that extra bit to make you visit very pleasant, whether it for a meal or just a couple of drinks. They all have a very high standard of customer care. The decor and seating is very comfortable and the outside of the Hotel has recently had the landscaping upgrades. You will not be disappointed with a visit here.

I've never had a bad meal here and would recommend the enchiladas. The staff are very friendly. The only thing that annoys me about this place is the location. It's not a walking distance to other local pubs if your venturing out after your meal in heels. You need to get a taxi.

It's all very basic. Clean, neat and tidy but nothing very exciting, a bit like a large travel lodge, keep expecting to see Alan partridge walking in. But if all you want is a good nights sleep and simple food that's what you will get. One strong point the guy who runs the place james is very good.

Starter was load potato skins a good portion with a side salad main meal was chicken stroganoff again a good portion the rice was perfect the chicken & sauce 1st class.Good food at a fair price.

Went here for lunch with the family, didn't book a table and the restaurant was full so we were offered a booth in the bar. Glad we took it as it was just as nice and it was the same food, and once again excellent quality, large portions and great service. Would definitely recommend. Just watch when leaving the car park as you cannot go straight back on to the boulevard, you need to go up the side of the car dealership and then take a right and then enter the main boulevard from here.

Went there a few weeks ago with my Wednesday night friends we were made so welcome from the moment we got there The starters were lovely the home made soup was really nice and it was no different with the main course and deserts it was very good value for money and I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and restaurant it really is worth a visit

Had dinner and breakfast here. The restaurant manager was very welcoming and attentive without being a nuisance. The environment was pleasant and the service excellent. There was a wide choice on the menu and the what we had was superb. Breakfast was the usual cereal, pastries, toast, juice, buffet. the cooked breakfast was freshly cooked per order, piping hot and well presented.

Stayed overnight for a function. The staff at the hotel are great especially the bar and receptionist. The food is great and good value. Reasonable prices bar but rooms are good but could be better.

Dropped in on the off chance and was pleasantly surprised. The food was good and the staff were excellent.Had haggis gateaux for starters, they were very well presented and tasted great. We had a combination of steak pies and the lamb and haggis meat balls and they were both well presented and tasted very good. All polished off with desserts and coffee and all in all a very good meal.The staff were always on hand and were brilliant. It is such a pleasure when all the staff are so helpful, pleasant and funny. Particularly enjoyed the jokes about haggis and turning your hair ginger, brilliant.Thank you for a great lunch.

Sorry to say that again I was disappointed in the food I ate - BBQ chicken. The chicken wasn't succulent and the BBQ sauce unexpectedly and unpleasantly spicy. This is not the first time I have had overspiced food on a WEDNESDAY evening ( the evening we usually meet) and I wonder if there is a different chef on that night. To be fair though, I had a lovely Christmas lunch there last year, as part of a large group, and will be returning again with the same group this year.

Visited this week with family, have been a few times and not been disappointed at all with the service or the meal. Only criticism I have is the size of the tortillas you get with the chicken etc for the fajitas, they are too small considering how much filling you get! Good value for money and will be back .

Lovely hotel just off the A82 in dumbarton. Lovely food reasonable prices and good sized portions. Advise to book as can get really busy especially at weekends. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Well woth a visit

I have eaten a couple of times; always been on birthdays/hens etc. Very nice, but pretty standard....dont expect the creme de la creme, but friendly and nice

We stayed just one night but we're delighted with the quality of the room and newly refurbished bathroom. The staff on reception were efficient, helpful and friendly. We ate in the restaurant and again the staff were attentive and efficient. The food was great, plenty of it and reasonable in price. Our family joined us for the evening and we had a lovely evening.

We have been to The Abbotsford many times over the past few years, both for a quick lunch and a full family dinner, as it is local to us, the food (quality and quantity) is always very good and none of the dishes are too expensive - the menu hasn't changed for years, however the choice is huge so you can go again and again and not eat the same thing twice! Staff are always very good and, even when it's busy, you never have to wait long to be seated or served.

Very clean and tidy. Our room was very comfortable. Excellent shower room. Decent size TV. Couldn't hear any traffic noise.Food was lovely. Friendly helpful staff, especially the Receptionist. Easy to find.

Utter disaster. Booked in advance and called days before. My mum even went in with cake and decorations on the morning. Waited half an hour for Peppercorn sauce no show but still charged. Told get Prosecco complimentary free for mess up but in my bill. Not sorry, ruined the night, will not be back. Steak was rotten. I will never go back!

I am not from this area but I have driven past the Abbotsford many time over the years, usually on my way to Loch Lomond. The dated, 70s exterior is misleading and, if it wasn't for a recent meal with a dozen or so friends from that area, I would have always given it a miss.We were catered to very well, despite the restaurant and bar being so busy. I was actually very surprised at the quality and quantity of the food. I loved my steak pie. Very reasonable prices and a great night.
