excellent friendly Restaurant with good food and service

Terrible experience at this pub. We arrived at 8pm to find the carvery already closed (carvery hours are not written anywhere on the menu/website) so we had to chose something else to eat. Well, something other than what I wanted since the item I ordered then was unavailable as well. The food was tolerable, but disappointing compared to nearly every place we've been to eat on our trip so far. And when I go to order a dessert, I'm told that the kitchen is closed !? Don't you think the waitress that brought our main courses could have told us that they were about to close, so we could order before ? Well, at least that saved me the 6£ I was about to spend. As we stayed at the inn next door we were gonna have breakfast there as well in the morning, but thank God it's not included with the room so we chose somewhere else to go eat. Maybe we should have guessed from seeing the lake crowded with loud and unrespectful tourists in the afternoon that this area had nothing good to offer us anyway.

Lovely friendly staff, attentive and polite. Good service and food. Portion sizes were just right, Cavery was very tasty even though it was at the end of the service. I have an extremely fussy parent, but she could not fault any of her food and states it is the best Hunters chicken ever!! Well done. Only complaint is the app, items not listed but were available at the bar and unable to make changes to the meals, ie no croutons, or no salt or seasoning on the fries. So gave up on it and had friendly efficient bar service

Absolutely love this place for a carvery beautiful food Bobby is always wonderful and Adam whom served us drinks and seated us was an absolute pleasure a great host and extremely polite will always be back. Also love how it is dog friendly here 100% recommend

Abby was extremely helpful and attentive throughout, nothing was too much of a hassle. We were a table of 8 without a booking and staff went out their way to ensure we had a table. Felt looked after throughout the full dining experience.

Friendly staff, we used the app to order and as soon as we finished ordering the staff were bringing our drinks and cutlery over, our meals were ready in about 5 minutes, food was lovely, great prices and we will definitely be back next time we're in the area

Had to edit this review because although still dog friendly we visited again yesterday and were really disappointed to see that you no longer offer a dog menu. Also, although several dogs in the restaurant none were even offered water and it was really warm with the fire on. We made a trip especially for dog menu so disappointed. Our food though was very good as was service.

The carvery was delicious and the pepper dauphinouse potato's were so good!! Excellent service from our server Gemma as well. 10/10

Beautiful pub, extremely friendly in Gem and Adam who oooze customer service. Amazing carvery very reasonably priced and the best Yorkshire puddings I have tasted for a long time and as a Yorkshire woman it takes a lot to impress me when it comes to yorkies. I thoroughly recommend this pub . And cannot wait to visit again

Arrived just as carvery was closing and the staff kept it open for us, they couldn't have been kinder after an 8 hour journey. Carvery was delicious as always.

Hello on a recent visit I was served at the bar by Emma. I was surprised at how helpful and accommodating she was with my order as it was a bit awkward. Emma didn’t seem to have a problem however and the food was served at a quick pace and the rest of the staff were good however Emma really stood out!

We stayed at the inn overnight with our two young children. The manager and staff were so helpful and accommodating. And the room was really comfortable.

Our servers this evening Abigail and Gemma were so lovely and attentive! Food runner grace was on point on correcting a slight error with my wife’s food, will definitely be back soon!

Nice place to go to if you’re in Balloch area, walking distance to Loch Lomond Shore and Balloch Station. Good choices for food and drinks with a warm atmosphere. Our server Gemma was very attentive and friendly :)

Ask for mushy peas,get garden peas. Ask for a medium steak,get steak with blood running out of it .

Have a standalone gluten free menu which is amazing as our daughter is coeliac. However when serving the food they had non gluten free onion rings on the plate which is obviously a big no no for cross contamination. That led us to thinking if they were on the plate, where they fried in the same oil as the gluten free chips?? Bit of a tummy ache afterwards so presuming yes they were. None the less it's the only place in the area that has such a range of gluten free food so we'll be back. Everyone else's food was amazing, the staff and service is A+.

Just arrived today and there was a problem with the card through booking.com. through no fault of our own. Ross couldn't be more helpful in resolving the issue to our satisfaction. We are well impressed and will be back again.

Had the carvery dinner today 03/02/25 out for a birthday dinner, the carvery turkey was excellent, as was all the food. Highly recommend this. Price was reasonable. Left absolutely full. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

The girls who served us, Gemma and Abby were really lovely and welcoming. We ordered the fish and chips and southern burger, and the food was very good for value! Dog friendly restaurant and they even have a dog station for water, treats & blankets which we absolutely loved!🐾

Staff were welcoming and friendly. Went for the carvery and I was impressed with the generous portion size. One member of our group had the vegetarian option. I was impressed that a vegetarian friendly gravy was provided separately with the meal. Unfortunately she dislikes the taste of the vegetarian sausages provided, although had no complaints about the rest of the meal. I'd recommend the carvery to my nom vegetarian friends

Becca who works at Queen of the loch pub on morning shifts was extremely helpful, kind, very knowledgeable about areas regarding views and times to get to destinations. The Scottish breakfast was very good as had this twice whilst staying. Nice little walks nearby including reduced designer sale outlet which was less then 15 minute walk. Beautiful recommendations from becca as found the places recommended absolutely stunning. Would definitely recommend it. I'd stay for a week as location based is a good 45 minute to 1 hour and half drive to go into more coastal direction with scenery sensational 😀 👌 and amazing drives

Lovely atmosphere and always friendly staff. Good food too. We go regularly for steak and a drink, which is great value and is always really nice. A particular mention to Ross for being so welcoming, and to Nina in the kitchen - the steaks were perfectly cooked. We'll be back!

Carvery was good,chef was nice & friendly but overall let down by a couple of things: No coffee but worse than that,the display of the big fancy desserts,none of the 6 of them available! Settled on the mint chocolate tart except the mint was hiding & accompanied by the most flavourless ice cream that I've ever tasted.

I used this hotel as I needed to be close to Vale of Leven hospital and was very grateful for the understanding and attitudes of the staff. Becca welcomed me and saw I was struggling immediately and did everything she could to make me feel comfortable and help me get my bearings. She was friendly, empathic and patient as I muddled my way through and made sure I was okay, from putting my bag away to giving me directions to the train station. When I came back that evening Abigail welcomed me and just like Becca nothing was too much trouble. She also saw I was struggling and made sure I was comfortably settled, let me know it was a new menu that night and even went to the trouble of switching my room to an accessible one when I realised had forgotten to include that in my booking. The food was outstanding and well worth the money and the room very comfortable. All the basic amenities were there but what makes this place special is the staff. Even the gentleman who checked me out was friendly and engaged and was lovely when I apologised for not having any cash to leave for Becca and Abigail. I will definitely be staying there again, if only for the chance to see the lovely staff again and thank them in person for making a stressful couple of days more bearable.

The kids food was absolutely disgusting as they were clearly using old fat to deep fry the kids FROZEN waffles and dippers, they were a disgusting brown colour which shows how old the oil was. Wouldn’t have fed it to my dog, really need to review your kids menu and stop being lazy for options. I could have bought that stuff myself for the house! Really wasn’t happy

Absolutely excellent service from Abby and Becca, both staff members were lovely to chat to and get to know. This made my experience and overall atmosphere so much appealing and I will definitely be back to try some of the food.

Cavary can be a hit or a miss, when it's good, it's value for money, but more often than not it as been poor as in presentation of the vegetables on offer are often dried out ,the same with the meats on offer , this could because they are quite or because they are short staffed, but has i said when it's good it's very good just not consistent enough, as for the service it very good .

The staff were very friendly. The place wasn’t too busy but still had a lovely warm atmosphere. The service was quick and the food lovely. As a matter of fact the meat in the carvery was the best I’ve tasted. Cooked to perfection. We usually visit in the summer where they have many tables outside for dinning. I’d definitely recommend.

My partner and I had an absolutely fantastic experience here over the Christmas break. We would highly recommend the Steak and Ale pie, it was delicious! The atmosphere was calm and the service was quick. One particular member of staff we would love to bring attention to it Becca - she was incredibly helpful, welcoming and friendly. We would definitely come here again when visiting!

Had a lovely Christmas dinner here.

Went for Christmas Dinner.. was expensive for what we had. No welcome drinks or coffee just 3 course carvery self service. The food was cold and the roast potatoes, parsnips and Yorkshire puddings were soggy. We were given a 2 hours slot which was fine but after 1 hour when my mum said she wanted to wait 15 minutes for her dessert because she was full, the manager came over and said we are going to give you it now. I said it's ok we'll wait a bit and he said no we'll bring it now I need the table! We still had 1 hour left!!! Waitresses were lovely and very hardworking. Won't be here next Christmas it was not a very good experience at all. Wish we'd stayed home and saved the money. At least we would have felt welcome!

The staff were lovely, especially Becky, Abigail and Gina. The Christmas Decorations were fantastic, and meeting Santa was great! Lovely food and great coffee!

Food was quickly served and was hot and tasty. Bar service was pleasant, but so slow. Beers are overpriced

Service was good and the food was really nice but the portion size was very small and the meals didn’t have everything they were meant to have. The vegan Thai curry was missing the crackers and the vegan chilli didn’t have sour cream or tortilla chips. The scoops of vegan ice cream were microscopic.

Carvery was tasty and for first time meat slices were not transparent. Staff all very helpful & nice.

Server and lady on the desk were incredible. Food was out of this world so hot and fresh. We brought our dog and I was a bit nervous because there were so many dogs in. Thankfully my dog behaved himself.

Stayed for three nights at the adjacent Queen of the Loch for business. Ate 4 meals at Marstens... Warm and cozy with a large menu of well prepared foods. Make sure Gemma pours your Tennets... she is a pro!

Nice carvery but the veg really was a bit dried up . My chair was more than wobbly, same with the one next to me, health and safety guys, those should be repaired or replaced

It was a let down. Bone dry carvery for 19.99. they served 4 pieces of dried meat. Look at the picture and you will know the quality they serve their customer.

Tasteless pub grub, fish n chips with mushy peas, the 3 items tasted exactly the same totally and utterly bland, only flavour that came through was cooking oil. The carvery meats were dry, the vegetables unseasoned and the Yorkshire pudding limp and deflated. Tea served in a cappuccino cup, therefore going cold less than halfway down. It was telling that we witnessed the kitchen staff taking delivery of pizza from a local takeaway for their dinner. £30 for a really bad lunch for 2. First and last visit for me.

Food awful, disappointing that a trained chef can’t make roast parsnips or gravy

Service was great from arrival, restaurant clean and well decorated. Food and drinks ordered at the bar, drinks served immediately and food served a short period after. Good size portions, freshly cooked and most importantly hot. The food was very tasty and enjoyable and staff verified everything was to satisfaction. Overall an excellent visit.

Carvery was fresh and tasty only downside is that the slices of meat are cut too thinly, don't be mean with it!

Great food lovely staff just a shame they couldn't help me with the blue card I had with me I've used it loads of times in Marston restaurants never had a problem but not this time apart from that the place is very friendly and food is lovely

Food was disappointing. I stayed in the hotel for a couple of days, on the first day I received both under and over cooked food! Cauliflower wings (frozen and reheated) were cold in the middle, and my steak was over cooked. Breakfast the next day I got pancakes, I thought they would be hard to mess up, they couldn't even reheat pancakes properly, lukewarm to touch 🤦 not even making pancakes fresh is kind of embarrassing, not to mention the soggy defrosted berries on top. On the plus side the bar staff were really friendly, and the rooms were clean and tidy.

Service was excellent waitress and manageress lovely and Adam great. Food was very good could do with more chips. Orders taken at table instead of the counter as previous this was an improvement.

Adam and Ross were exceptional with their customer service and nothing was an issue they were both very friendly and the chef that was on I always think he is the best one in there I don’t have his name but he always ensures the food is lovely and fresh and he also went out his way to get me fresh cauliflower from the kitchen which is my favourite thanks guys this was Chester enjoying his visit too

We eat here often and always have a good night. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the food is good value, with offers most nights. There's a nice range of beers on tap, and an attractive beer garden as well. The last time we visited they had just changed to table service and it was a definite improvement - no queues. We were well served by Gemma, Ross and Adam, and never felt forgotten about, which can happen in some restaurants. We'll be back!

Dog friendly, lovely staff and great atmosphere. They even had treats and a water bowl for my dog.

Staff are helpful and friendly. Decor is nice and the restaurant is clean and tidy. The carvery however is disappointing. On the last three occaisions i have tried it the veg has been luke warm. The meat portions have been reduced. In reality slices are from jiints that have been quartered and are no longer full sized. So any meat portion is actually tiny. The ham, beef and turkey joints allvseemed much smaller. The price however has not refuced. Poor value for money.

Becca was honestly the best waitress we've had in Scotland! And the food was GREAT!!

Probably our fault for having a carvery at 2.30 pm on a week day but, apart from the meat, everything else on the plate was really bad (particularly the roasted potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings which had an absolutely awful taste and texture). I actually felt sorry for my girlfriend who insisted on paying for the meal. Also, she paid extra for the pigs in blankets but we never got them. Only realised this when driving back home. Staff was really nice, though, hence not giving one star.

Eat here a couple of times a month, as I live locally, my friend and I always have lovely food and great service, the staff are always great. I should probably have left a good review before now but I am leaving a review as Abigail in the restaurant tonight (Monday the 4th November), had a particularly difficult customer and this is to say. I thought she was so professional, courteous and pleasant in a situation which, quite frankly was no win. ( this is just our observation from the next table). This young lady in my opinion is a real credit to your business. ( barbecue sauce). Well done Abi. Keep up the good work.
