The Abbey Bar & Grill in Sandwell

Visited with friend, ordered Fish Pakora, Tikka wrap & Masala chips to share. Food was excellent & the Fish Pakora was the best I've had. Overall 9/10!

Went to a birthday party here in a big group. Great food and prices, lovely staff, and tons of room for kids to run around and play. Recommended!

This is a lovely Bar & Grill. The chef and his team are lovely. Always a friendly service. The food is brilliant. I don't go anywhere else in Birmingham for Indian food and have recommended this place to many friends and relatives. They all love it.

We had an Uber eats via this lovely pub we have also had lunch in the pub. I had a paneer makani both times and was delicious I had Chapatti for the lunch and a plain naan bread for the dinner. I recommend both maybe eating in is better for eating it immediately after cooking. The staff are lovely the place is clean and you can see them cooking from the lounge which you can hire for parties. Very good

The new chefs food in the Abbey is by far the best I've had for a long time. As someone who trys new curry houses and curry pubs food and service is fantastic. The bar lady val is a great host fantastic service. Great food, great service . Best food around 😋

Went with the in-laws and kids . Every one of us cleared out plates including the fussy 8 year old. My son had the lamb chops . 3 fat chops which he said were amazing ! The nee owner is also the chef and they only took over in august. His food is amazing and he comes out to make sure you are happy with it. Not the most glamorous of places but food is worth it

Attended to watch the boxing. Lots of screens for all to see, access to other rooms. Good spaces. Large outside area. Had the mixed grill to share, with a peshwari naan, this naan was by far the best I have tasted, so fresh. Definitely eat here again!

I visited here last night as it's over the road from me as I noticed this week they started doing food. I couldn't be bothered cooking myself so decided to have a treat. I must say I was not disappointed. I ordered a chilli paneer starter a keema curry, keema rice and a garlic and cheese naan. The price was reasonable and the taste was out of this world and even better they did it as a takeaway option for me so I could enjoy a couple of pints whilst I waited and and enjoy the meal at home. I normally drink in the Bear when I go out but I'll definitely be giving the Abbey more attention if not just for the beer but for the fantastic food. Thank you to all the guys there for making my evening.

In my third decade of living in the area I have only visited the Abbey on Thimblemill Road 3 or 4 times. Now under new management by a very talented, experienced, welcoming and charming Chef, it is on my radar as a place to visit when eating out in Bearwood/Warley. My friend and I were treated to two delicious courses yesterday - one a kebab-style lamb dish. Chef clearly loves his profession and, I would say, also loves the hospitality business. If there is one reason to visit The Abbey, for me, it would have to be the food. This is no fast-food chain Pubco enterprise. It is to be a family-run business dedicated to the delivery of both good service and the enjoyable experience of its clients It is early days for the business under new management and I hope the excellence in the kitchen is matched by making the extensive 'beer garden', huge bar, cloak rooms etc mare comfortable and welcoming. The establishment has huge potential as a functions space, music venue in addition to being a restaurant/grill & bar. I wish Chef and his family the best of luck in his new venture.

Val makes you feel welcome. Great to be greeted in such a warm manner. A credit to the Abbey. Friendly atmosphere.

Brilliant friendly pub. A lovely Jamaican lady showed us around, she was so lovely. Shane all pubs don’t have a customer friendly lady like her.

I'd been past here a few times and had always wondered whether the food was any good. So, with the EOTHO scheme, I decided to go for a late lunch to avoid any crowds. I arrived at 2.15, but was told that the kitchen wasn't open until 3pm. Curious as everywhere I'd seen on the internet said they open at 12, even for food. I said I'd wait as it was too long, and there were only four other people I could see in the pub/restaurant. At 2.50, the lady who served me at the bar said the food wouldn't be long now, so I though food was imminent. So I waited some more. And waited, and waited, and waited. Food finally arrived at 3.40pm. My late lunch turned into an early dinner. Why it took so long is beyond me. I was not impressed with the wait. However, I was impressed with the curry. I did find the nan was on the small side so I had to order another. That, thankfully, only took a few minutes to arrive. So, how do I rate this place? Food was excellent. The lady that served me was wonderfully polite. The wait time was abysmal. On balance, I'd have to say average. Would I recommend the place to my friends? For the food, yes, but only go if you've got a lot of time to kill.

We had a 21st birthday party at the abbey pub. The function room was only small so it only best have party their if got about 70/80 people coming as their not much room move if it full they did say they could get 150 in room but I don’t think they can. The function room is on the ground floor. The was a DJ who work for the abbey pub but he wasn’t very good didn’t play any good music. The room was lovely decorated and bar staff was very quick to served u at the bar that was in room. They had the party from 7.30 till 1.00 in morning so if like party go on bit later u can here. The toilet was clean but need update. I never been to abbey pub before so I didn’t know what I was expecting and it a curry restaurant too.

I hired the function room for a family birthday and it was excellent. The size was good and the service at the bar was good. I would be happy to recommend the Abbey as a great local to hold family celebrations.

Oh my word.... rude phone staff and delayed delivery. Massively overspiced and cheap chewey meat. Hot and cooked but bad quality food.

I love the food from here. The wraps are most definitely my favourite along with chilli chips! I’ve tried a few of the curries too but the grills are definitely the highlight for this pub. The service is usually very good when you sit in but you can also order from just eat which is just as good!

We went this weekend. Pub was so busy but their service is very good.coz we got our food on time. No doubt food is amazing

Where do i start ? Oh yes as I walked in no lights were on and I needed to ask the one member of staff( who I later found to be the owner) if they were open. It was empty and void of any atmosphere. It appears its a one man show. Oh my has this pub gone downhill since it was taken over. I left because it just was not doing it for me .

Tasty mixed grill and curries, very generous portions. Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent Value. Defo worth a visit as a couple or family. Relaxed atmosphere. Winner!!

Everything burnt paid for the mixed grill supposed to feed 2-3 people that's a understatement won't be ordering again will be using the cottage on tat bank road as usual not happy at all

Visited 12.5. disappointed at best.i never really appreciate a cash only payment policy. and a poor excuse of faulty internetissues for card payment.whilst the food was very enjoyable there is more to an enjoyable evening.the cottage in tat bank rd is still the benchmark.the abbey is a long way behind

I tried out this new place for a mix grill,well worth a try good food,pop by for a bite to eat and the size of the chicken wings nice and big

Better when you eat there rather than takeaway. Little bit oily depending on what you order. Lamb madras is really good and so is the chicken tikka

After work visited here with a colleague tonight. We are connoisseurs of Indian buffet/grill bars. This has topped the bill tonight, food A1 , service A1 and friendly staff who were helpful with decisions to be made on quantities to order.

Great local pub with friendly staff that always are happy to help. Great prices for brilliant food offered in good sized portions!

I've known of this Pub for years, and even went in there many moons ago. It's changed, a LOT! A new owner has turned this place into a Bar, Grill and Restaurant. Your choice, eat in the Bar, the Lounge or the restaurant, but WHATEVER you decide, make sure you EAT! The food is first class, authentic Asian cuisine. A good selection of Beers, Lagers and even a decent Real-Ale. To top it all, it's family friendly, so kids welcome? I had a mixed Grill for 2, Tandoori Wings, Chicken Tikka, Lamb Tikka, Sheek Kebab, Fish Pakora on a sizzling platter. A portion of Cilli-Chips (to die for), Garlic Naan and Side Salad. A couple of beers each to wash it down and got change out of £25! Bargain, will definitely go back AND, they do Take-away too. Great food at a VERY good price.

After being closed by the brewery and uproar by the locals, The Abbey has been privately bought and turned into a licensed Indian restaurant and bar.
