Tharavadu in Leeds

Table of six, tried a selection of fish & chicken courses. Everyone left full & happy - flavours were brill. Will be back.

Absolutely love Tharavadu, possibly my favourite restaurant. However I have never experienced service as slow and unprofessional in my life as Uyare. I appreciate they have only opened recently, however waiting for close to an hour between starter and main is unacceptable. This is not to mention the wait between ordering and receiving the starter was also exceptionally long. Came here for a 40th celebration and left very disappointed.

The food is really really good. Worth the penny. Portion size is gigantic

I was working in Leeds for a week and I came in here 3 nights in a row and had something different every time. If I was here for longer I would have continued to come in here. My initial concerns that this might have been a fancy, Michelin style “modern cuisine” kind of restaurant (my idea of hell) were happily erased the minute I walked in. This is a relaxed, vibrant, buzzing, authentic, friendly place with amazing Indian food cooked by experts who know their craft. Nothing pretentious, poncey or posh about it - thankfully. My favourites were the fish dishes and the fabulous egg side dish but everything I had was outstanding and I’ve eaten in Indian restaurants all over the world. I loved this place and will return asap.

Tried the seafood thali and the food was really good. Service was not that great and it was difficult to get any attention from the waiters even to refill empty water glass.

Exceptional food coupled with amazing service made the whole experience worth while. Been several times now and the place never ceases to amaze me. Well done to the whole team!

As expected fantastic food. The service was lovely, and the staff dealt with my food allergy exceptionally well.

We enjoyed an excellent meal at Tharavadu on Saturday evening. I had Shappu Meen curry with sea bream & prawns… delicious and my husband had Kerala Kozhi curry with pieces of tender chicken in an aromatic hot, creamy sauce. We shared their delicious Kerala paratha. Friendly and attentive staff. Thank you.

The food here is exceptional. We all agreed it was the best Indian food we had eaten in ages. We had a mix of fish, prawn, aubergine and paneer dishes, with rice and one of each of the breads. Everything was absolutely delicious. Sorry, no photos, we were too greedy!

I had really high expectations but was very dissapointed with the service just felt rushed by the team and they seemed bit unhappy as we booked last slot in the afternoon .. but not fair on us . and the food was okay not great .. Just a shame as we went to celebrate dad’s birthday !

I have visited the restaurant after 10+ years. I visited Tharavadu in the opening week and came back after a long time - still keeping the same authenticity and standards, Amazing! Great food presentation, rich flavours and authentic taste.

Food was superb, the service was top quality, was really busy for a Wednesday night.

A waitress spilled a whole seafood curry on my coat, trousers and shoes and laughed about it. Although I tried to have the coat dry cleaned, it was not possible to remove all of the stains because the waitress had tried to clean it herself with wet wipes, which only resulted in the stains penetrating deeper.

The service was excellent. However It was pretty loud, it fairly pricey, for what was an overly complicated curry. The flaky 'naan' bread was a major disappointment too Note - My review was based on a guess order because I was blind sided by the menu and the unfamiliar curry names. However I Would go again just to give the menu another shot because the other dishes looked amazing

Had the anniversary, tasting menu. It was very good and reminded me of my many visits to Bangalore.

Had some amazing curries, great flavours, good service 👍😋👏 Stopped on our way to Newcastle. Would definitely come back again to Leeds just to have another dinner at Tharavadu. Nice authentic blend of Kerala dishes. 🍛🌟💯

The food was absolutely delicious, from the seafood starter to the recommended fish and lamb curries. Very different and a class above any other Indian restaurant I’ve been too. The service throughout was outstanding. Highly recommend- thank you to all the staff!

We really enjoyed our first time. Food was great, we'd definitely been influenced by Gary and tried a few different things on the menu, our waitress tried to warn us there would be a lot of food, she was right! All of it delicious and different. They even brought a cake out for my partner, he was mortified, I thought it was brilliant. Thank you

I've eaten a lot of curries in my life, this is right up there at a firm at the top for both service and food. I'm no expert, but have travelled through southern India several times and this is very authentic and representative of the area complex flavours and delicately spiced Share a dosa to start, and make sure to leave space for an Indian ice cream to wrap up with....

We were in Leeds for a work trip and they brought us to this Indian restaurant. It was a complete success. We enjoyed a fantastic meal and excellent service, very friendly and attentive. Without a doubt, an experience that we would repeat and that we recommend to anyone who visits the city.

Luckily I had booked a table as the restaraunt was busy and they were turning people away. On a business trip and first visit - food was amazing. Both had a fish dish with snack bowl, side and bread. Big portions. Lovely friendly service - will definitely return next time in Leeds

This place is way overrated only because a certain YouTuber recommended it. Ordered lamb chops thinking it would be chargrilled bbq style, but came out soggy with a very standard sauce, rather chewy, would not recommend. The fish was supposed to be crispy fried, again came out soggy as though it was steamed. Very sub standard flavours, the general look and feel of the restaurant is somewhat dated, dark and dingy. I would think twice before visiting as this place is clearly overcharging its customers. The only plus is the staff who were great.

It’s not the same food and service anymore as it used to be. Found the atmosphere very dull. The drinks menu had only alcohol beverages and no indian soft drinks/ lassi etc. The service was a bit dull too. But the food was good and hence the stars.

My friend, who is vegan, and myself a vegetarian, loved the food at Tharavadu. We had the vegetable Lunchtime Special Thali. It was simply delicious with so many different spicy flavours. It wasn't too hot, just aromatic. There was a bed of rice in the middle, and the huge crispy rice roll was very tasty and contrasted to the overall textures. A perfect meal, reasonably priced with excellent service and ambient atmosphere atmosphere.

Everything about this place is great. I've been twice now and would go again. The food is unbelievable, the service is great.

Absolutely delicious food, excellent service and an amazing all round experience!

Two people had a Monday lunchtime meal of 1 starter each and a main course each. The food was excellent, I had Njerippan Kozhi starter which was spicy but not too spicy followed by a seafood curry which was delightful. My husband had Pothu Peralan and Adu Cheera Mappas - he said that both dishes were delicious. The staff were friendly, courteous and efficient. It is somewhere that we would definitely return to - maybe in an evening as the lunchtime atmosphere was fairly subdued which is why I have only given 4 stars

What a wonderful place this is. The food was superb . My wife ordered the dosa which she said was fantastic (she is a vegetarian) and I ate the chicken biryani which was probably the best I have ever eaten. We will definitely go again. The service was attentive and the staff really polite

Went for express lunch, amazing how much food you get for under £10. The dosa was crispy and all curries were different kind of flavourful. Delicious. The rice was so fragrant. Definite must go when in leeds.

We arrived as a table of 7 just as they opened and they were very welcoming. Seated straight away and very attentive with the menus and gave enough time for you to look at the drinks before asking for the order and they arrived very quickly. We ordered some starters to share and wow taste explosion I can’t remember what they were called but stunning. The staff were so quick to clear up after and then the mains. Not one of us could say a bad thing it all tasted fresh and just something never had before it was the best curry I have had not spicy but had that nice heat from it. The bread oh wow another level. All in all the best experience of dining out had in a really really long time and we will be back soon.

The lunch service was slow, taking 20-25 minutes to arrive after we reminded the staff and the starters were served simultaneously with the main course. Additionally, the staff requires training on cleanliness protocols. Specifically, cleaning nearby tables with spray while guests are dining is unacceptable. We experienced this firsthand when a staff member sprayed a nearby table directly, rather than using a cloth, while we were eating.

Very busy, even on a Wednesday night, but the service was excellent. The menu isn't your normal Indian food (it's Kerala), and while different, the tastes weren't bursting out. Didn't think the food was worth the money.

Have been before and loved it but the service was terrible this time - wrong drinks, wrong food and the whole experience was followed by a bout of explosive diarrhoea. Good location, though and the atmosphere was jolly.

I cannot think of enough superlatives to describe my experience at Tharavadu. The flavours were exquisite and all the staff extremely attentive and courteous. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Groop o 'oreja de nueve cem en un doo de soltero. Buck envejece en ventaja - streyt en ningún bovva. Mostrado mirando hacia arriba y visto. Es reet niyce en ti. Curriz ‘r’ un poco poco poco familiar en el menú .. pero nos sorprendió que queríamos una ‘izquierda feliz como Gary. ¿Qué pasa? . . demasiado bongoed t dar un propa rivyoo. Pero – Big Arnie Slogan – espero que la próxima vez un fiordo menos nebuloso se marronee en mi sistema.

The managers behaviour seemed a bit off to me...wasnt very friendly or polite about the issues i had with the food...the waiting staff on the other hand delivered pretty good service...im not really happy with the management and the atmosphere is also a bit dull. Even that the food was good the overall vibe wasnt really something i would go for

I had a disappointing experience at Tharavadu due to the poor service. The staff seemed uninterested and lacked basic courtesy—no greetings, no smiles, just a cold and unwelcoming attitude. Service was slow and unresponsive, making the entire visit uncomfortable. It felt as if the staff didn’t care about customer experience at all. A little friendliness goes a long way, but unfortunately, that was missing here. No matter how good the food is, bad service ruins the experience. I won’t be coming back.

Very bad Service. I went there with my 3 friends, they are not smiling. It is a South Indian restaurant and we are also from south India. Very Disappointed.

Fabulous meal and service. We were introduced to this restaurant by friends and had one of the best Indian meals. We have been since and were not disappointed. Recommended to friends and family. Wish we had not had to rush as it was a pre theatre meal!

Every bite was a delight!😋 A special thanks to Treya, who was super kind and friendly. Her warm and attentive service made the experience even better. One small suggestion would be to add a bit more lighting towards the back area—it would help in capturing good pictures of the amazing food. Overall, I truly enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance. We have eaten here on several occasions and it is always top class. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is tasty and plentiful.

Went here on Saturday afternoon, 4:30pm This is a restaurant, so I will start with the food. 10 out of 10 I couldn't fault anything. The people are lovely. I don't Complain, just for The sake of it, just so you don't think this person you just couldn't please. In my opinion, I think they try and get as many people in, I sat for 15 minutes without even being asked if we wanted a drink, I actually had to wave to somebody in the end to get their attention. They took our Drink and food order all in one go, The food arrived and we're just about finished our first drink. So we re-ordered the same drink order. That never arrived, When we finished our food, I waved to somebody and said that our second drinks had not arrived, The lady couldn't of been any nicer, Very apologetic and said she would go get our drinks, She come back and said there was never ordered, We had finished our food, so we said never mind so we didn't have the second drink. We was never asked if we wanted anything, We wasn't asked if the food was okay, The place was very full, In my opinion, not enough stuff on. Just need someone at the front of the house making sure everybody is okay with drinks, And if everybody's meal is okay. And some of the staff smelt of BO so they should take that into account when Serving food.

A must try Indian Kerala cuisine restaurant. I would recommend to try Kerala khozi curry(medium spicy Chicken curry in coconut), Meen kootan (Fish curry) with Kerala Paratha. If you are a vegetarian, must try there Kootu Curry ( mix vegetables curry fried in coconut oil). Falooda(Icecream with fresh fruits) in the dessert is one of the best dishes you will find.

Second time at Tharavadu and it did not disappoint. The service was exceptional and the food was sublime. we will be back again soon.

Went here last night for food with our friends. We’ve been a few times before and it’s always fantastic. Service was wonderful, so polite, lovely atmosphere and the food speaks for itself. Super tasty, fresh and spice levels are just right. Anything you need whether it’s something less or more spicy, they cater to. It’s a super special place and all the wonderful reviews and praise they receive is definitely justified. We will continue to bring our friends/family always to treat them here and we can’t wait for their new place to open too!

Very authentic food, service was excellent and had a very enjoyable afternoon meal with family, worth the journey on the train from Doncaster- highly recommend you try the different dishes to usual Indian food
