An excellent restaurant in short. It is difficult to find restaurants worth the money but this is. Authentically made and unbelievably tasty, we ordered the seafood platter starter, the fish curry and steamed fish in a banana leaf with paratha. Every single thing was excellent and the staff ensured the spice level was milder as requested. The paratha was extremely flaky and the pineapple kesari was a lovely light end to the meal. Thank you to the staff for being so pleasant and creating a lovely calming atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

My friend, who is vegan, and myself a vegetarian, loved the food at Tharavadu. We had the vegetable Lunchtime Special Thali. It was simply delicious with so many different spicy flavours. It wasn't too hot, just aromatic. There was a bed of rice in the middle, and the huge crispy rice roll was very tasty and contrasted to the overall textures. A perfect meal, reasonably priced with excellent service and ambient atmosphere atmosphere.

I have been to this restaurant before and the food was lovely but this time was a completely different experience. We ordered the King Prawns and the squid to start. The prawns were nice but we only got three. The squid was rubbery. I had the lamb curry which was very average and Appam came clap cold. A far cry from my first visit. Will not be going again

Tharavadu has an authentic Southern Indian menu, with dishes that you will not find elsewhere. I took a group of people here in January 2025. It is necessary to book! The atmosphere on entering was bustling and friendly. The service was prompt and food arrived rapidly. The Masala Dosa was excellent and other dishes well spiced and presented. I would highly recommend this restaurant, for vegetarians and vegans.

I visited this restaurant having lived in Thiruvananthapuram for seven years. I was very excited to find a Keralan restaurant having only just moved. Frankly I found it not to be particularly authentic and the paratha were a disappointment to say the least. I honestly cannot see what people are so excited about in their reviews. We spent over £100 and we may aswell have thrown the money at the wall. If you want an authentic ‘Indian’ experience go to Bundobust next door which I have always found to be reliable. I feel qualified to make these statements having eaten out almost every night whilst I lived in Kerala. Don’t waste your money.

Believe the hype. I had the seafood curry (a la Jay Rayner) and it was everything I’d hoped for - rich, fragrant, creamy and packed with flavour. The fish was cooked perfectly. The parathas - I could eat ten of them - so flaky and soft at the same time.

Yesterday, we visited Tharavadu, a Kerala restaurant in Leeds, and it was quite a letdown. The prices were noticeably higher than what we usually pay in London, which was surprising. We ordered Chilli Paneer (£8.75) as a starter, along with Masala Dosa (£9.95 each, x 2) and Kozhi Biriyani (£15.95). The Kozhi Biriyani was a complete disappointment—tasted worse than the chicken biriyani you can find in West London suburbs for just €3.50! To make things worse, the chutney served with the Masala Dosa was stone-cold, like it had just come straight out of the fridge—not even at room temperature. Overall, it was a pretty underwhelming experience and definitely didn’t live up to the expectations. Not worth the hype or the price!

Had pepper chicken curry and paratha .. paratha was good but the curry no effort at all to resemble Kerala cuisine.. chicken breast boiled separately and added to a curry (my experience of having the same in home was that the meat is cooked with all the spices together so it absorbs the taste of that curry too). Also this is my personal opinion. Otherwise good atmosphere and service was good too

Oh dear Oh dear Oh dear ! Much vaunted highly rated rubbish … Paratha oily heavy doughy tasteless … Thali much of a muchness I had the meat which contained squid (no warning !) pretty bland overall in no way representative of its reviews … frankly overpriced rubbish … let’s be honest with our reviews please … after this review I was invited back with my friends by the manager and fair enough somethings had improved, the paratha was better but not really up to the exalted standards claimed by Jay Rayner amongst others and everything else was a three star, I honestly cannot see what all the fuss is about I lived in Goa for a year and travelled to Kerala many times I’m afraid this is not particularly authentic or fantastically good but give it a go I may be wrong !

Overpriced and overhyped location in central leeds. The food was not to the hyped expectations and google reviews. Don’t go in blind and get disappointed. Tried the restaurant on our first say trip to leeds with reviews from google but place failed to satisfy the reviews. Starters were over priced with very small portions size. The chilli paneer for instance had more bell peppers than paneer (cottage cheese) and salad potion was more than starter. When asked to spice food, green chillies were added to the pre-existing sauce which was one of the bad cooking choice. The vegetable briyani was a disaster as well with portion size less than expected. The raita was not also not good enough. Although chicken briyani was of good size the taste was not upto the mark. Recommendation - Dont waste money as there are better restaurants around the location which are more authentic and taste better

This restaurant is within walking distance of Leeds Railway station. The exterior of the restaurant is fairly modest but inside the dining area is pleasant and the staff friendly and attentive. What is special about this restaurant is the menu which has many dishes that I have not come across in any other restaurant. My wife and daughter really enjoyed the Uzhunnu Vada as a starter followed by the Kerala Khozi Curry. I ordered the Thali which also included soup and an ice cream. This week, we visited Tharavadu restaurant in Leeds and enjoyed a delightful dinner featuring authentic Kerala cuisine. The food was absolutely delicious, and the desserts were equally impressive. After our meal, we requested the bill, which the server brought out in a charming, toy-like trolley placed on our table. My 6-year-old son was instantly fascinated and asked the server if he could take the toy with him. With a warm and cheerful smile, she immediately said yes, making the moment truly special for him. Her thoughtful gesture ensured our dining experience remained pleasant and memorable. When dining out, it’s the little things that make a difference, and her kindness prevented what could have been a small disappointment for my son. I truly appreciate her exceptional service, and the restaurant for serving such delectable food. Tharavadu is truly a gem in Leeds!

The starter was perfect too, amazing squid rings, crispy and chewy, curried mussels were amazing, prawns were chargrilled perfection and the seabass (I think) was amazing too. Recommend 100%

What I’ve gotten here is the best service and food, overall what I think is this is one of the best places for authentic south Indian taste, the flaky porotta and beef perattu (Peralan) there remind me of home. Trust me you have got to try this the slow roasted beef with its crunchy, yet soft coconut shavings are to die for. The porotta wrapped in a piece of beef dipped in the thick roast is phenomenal. Also, the Biriyani there is really good, the spices were quite balanced and brought on a really great blend of taste. The chicken inside of it was moist and great. The Kozhi kurumulak is another great choice, two pieces of chicken coated with raw green peppers corns, lightly salted and cooked to perfection and served alongside a delicious garnish is really good. The service there is good and upto par with expectations.

What a nice restaurant. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. The atmosphere was great. Nicely decorated for Christmas. Even though as per Google they were supposed to be closed at 2PM, I am glad they were open when I went at 3PM. The restaurant was full of British people who love Indian food. I saw British ordering Dosa, Poori etc but I ordered my favourite Thali as always. They had three different Thali. Vegetarian, Mixed (Tharavadu Sadya)and Fish(Samudra Sadya). I wanted to try fish Thali and it was excellent. It came with Soup with Paapad. It tasted like Crab soup just without Crabs. It was actually hot and spicy. Great for British winter. When I finished the soup, the Thali came with nice excellent selection of items. Medium sized tasty Poori, Chennai vegetable kurma, Super tasty Fish kolambu (curry) (1 fish piece), Prawn kolambu (3 prawns) tasty Basmati rice fried rice, Beetroot curry, Sambar, Veg. Kurma Crispy Squid. Once I finished this exotic Thali I was given the traditional Indian dessert Semiya payasam to finish my grand lunch. I was completely satisfied with the quantity and flavour of traditional Indian tasting Thali in the UK. I loved even the receipt inside the little shopping trolley on my table with a mint chocolate wishing me Merry Christmas. I highly recommend this restaurant for their service and keeping up the traditional flavour and not changing it like other restaurants do. Applause for the chefs involved in cooking my food and the entire team. If I visit Leeds again I will come back for another exciting lunch with them. This place was recommended to my brother by a colleague of his and I'm so glad we took up the recommendation! Really cosy restaurant decorated with plates bearing the autographs of famous people who have eaten there (we were sat near Kier Stamer's plate!) and traditional scenes. We were glad we had booked, but the staff tried to fit in almost all of the walk-ins we noticed. The menu all sounds amazing with veggie and vegan dishes very clearly marked. In the end, though, we all opted for the thali feast. Soup to start (lentil for veggies/vegans and prawn for the meat eaters), seven curries, rice and bread for main (veggie, vegan, meat or fish) and a creamy vermicelli dessert or vegan vanilla ice cream to finish. So tasty and such good value. £150 including tip for four of us with drinks. Staff were also attentive without being overbearing. Can't wait to go back to try more of the menu! Highly recommend.

we always have a wonderful dining experience at Tharavadu. The staff are always welcoming and remember us from previous visits. The food is amazing, we tried the paneer dosa for a change which was delicious with plenty of cheese. My partner ordered the Meen Kootaan (fish curry) as this is his favourite and he was not disappointed. I had the Mutter Paneer which is my favourite and again I was not disappointed. We always have the Appam (rice breads) which again did not disappoint. The waiter came with a new signature dish they were trying and asked for our opinion, this was a fish dish and was wonderfully presented, it has a mash of Cassava with fish and a sauce with prawns. My partner said it was delicious, but could not eat it as too full. We packed it and gave it to a friend, who also said it was delicious. We had desserts as it is unusual for an Indian restaurant to have good quality desserts, I had a vermicelli pudding which was pleasant and my partner had the chocolate cake which looked like it had been steamed, so was quite light. We were very full when we left. I would recommend this restaurant. It was very busy at 5pm on a Saturday, so would recommend booking.

I visited with my wife, step-son and his girlfriend. We had a lovely meal, the food was delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

We never got there as there was a sign on the door saying it had shut on a permanent basis.

Excelente elección y excelente comida a un precio razonable. El personal es amable y profesional, sin duda volveremos a comer allí.

Biryani was dry, tasteless and the prawns were not fresh. The rice was undercooked and the tikka masala dishes lacked taste too. The salad was not fresh. Won’t be coming back very disappointed

So very sad to see that Raies has closed after so many years. Thank you Max and all that's worked with him over the 40 years of business. I have lots of great memories over the years. I 1st started going in 1983 and will miss you now you have closed. I have one 'Max's favourite' left in the freezer that I will enjoy. Including having to call in on a Monday to apologies after falling out over delivery times on Saturday nights. The curries you have served have always been so enjoyable. Best wishes in you're retirement Max.
