Fuji Hiro in Leeds

Lovely place, fantastic choice but food was 'good'...service took some time (main course came 60 mins in). Lot of kids in. But...the bill was very reasonable and I'd return. I came here 10 years previously and it seems radically different now. For the same money try Little Tokyo, it's lovely, great service, same price and somehow seems that little more special.

Food excellent. Service a little slow but then we weren't in much of a rush, fortunately. I've been going to FH for years, my concern was that with popularity, so standards would decline. Not the case at all - still my go to for Japanese in Leeds.

Excellent authentic Japanese restaurant. The food here is genuine Japanese rather than the modified for western ideas, of other restaurants. Its very good quality and nicely presented. Value is excellent. Of course you can definitely spend more if you choose to. On the negative: The service can be slow if the place is busy and they dont seem to have grasped the standard idea that you sit your customer down, provide a menue then take a drinks order. You often get seated then ignored, no menue or drinks. Trying to order drinks before the meal is really hard, waitresses look everywhere else but at you and even when you do finally get your order in, often the meal arrives before the drinks. Food arrives haphazardly. I recently ordered two meals. Mine arrived, no sign of my partners which eventually arrivedcafter I had finished mine. It seams that nobody is actually in charge and organising the service. Waiters seem to mostly be Chinese students who frankly do not have a clue. Overall I would recommend Fuji Hero to anyone who wants genuine Japanese dining.

This is definitely the worst dining experience I've encountered. Despite waiting for our dishes for an hour, the waiter's responses regarding this matter was ridiculous. He was very unapologetic and gave us that cheeky smiles in response when we ask him regarding the wait time. They even mistakenly double charged one of the dishes that we ordered. As someone with previous experience as a waitress, I would say the customer service in this restaurant is totally unacceptable.

Just one of the most horrendous experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Waited for more than an hour for our dishes, which is ridiculous for such a small restaurant. However, the most infuriating part is the attitude of the staffs. Throughout the wait we have asked several times how long is it going to take, but every time he (the guy with long hair overall) just went to ask the kitchen and never came back, how am I supposed to decide whether to cancel the order or wait for it? Also every time we asked him about this, the way he smile in a very cheeky way makes me think that he finds us making a fuss over such a small matter, which made us so uncomfortable and is super infuriating. Other than the wait and the horrific attitude of the staffs, they served two separate sushi rolls we ordered on the same plate without even telling us, who in their right mind does that? I am not even going to mention other minor frustrations like giving us an incorrect bill with items double charged. I will never ever visit this restaurant again in my life and I hope this message gets to every single person attempting to visit it.

Utterly delicious. Beautiful Japanese food in a cosy, informal setting.

Been here on countless occasions with friends and we’ve always had a great time. The menu really offers something for everyone, whether vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or fully fledged meat eater there is something for you. The staff have always been lovely and the restaurant always feels very intimate and cozy.

Our favourite restaurant in Leeds.

Fuji Hiro has changed quite a bit since I first visited some 20 years ago. The decor and ambience remain reassuringly spartan, but the menu has bloomed with rococo extravagance. It was tempting, but my son and I stuck with our favourites: chilli chicken ramen and spiced chicken men. Over the years, we have searched in vain for a dish of ramen to equal those served at Fuji Hiro. My son, recently returned from Japan, has now completed the quest. Ramen as good as this is served at a high tech art gallery in Tokyo but they only do vegan and it's a different style - not equal - but equally good. The chicken men consists of slices of marinated chicken in a peanut sauce served on top of noodles. We haven't found its like elsewhere. With green tea for him and a black Sapporo beer for me, it came in at about £40, a steal. The gyoza are also exceptionally good and most dishes have a vegan equivalent - all of which are excellent. Coming away from the place, I feel, as I always do, that I have improved myself. The food is clean and fresh, exquisitely balanced, indulgent, but virtuous.

Fairly basic Japanese restaurant. Food is good though sadly they no longer have a sushi chef. Service rather slow on our last visit.

Really disappointing. Twenty years ago this place was amazing. Even just over a year ago this place was still amazing. However, now, this place is average at best. It used to be heaving, but it was dead when I went in - should have been a bit of a giveaway. The menu has physically changed, which is fair… but there were no detailed descriptions of the meals anymore. The food wasn’t a patch on what it used to be. Sad to say after all these years, I will not be retuning. I’m hoping there are better Japanese cafes in Leeds now.

Very tasty, fresh and authentic. Big portions. Decent prices. Not the most beautiful interior but that adds to its honest charm.

Fantastic food, very very tasty and fresh. I enjoyed chicken gyōza and Japanese chicken katsu curry bento box, really high quality and I could easily eat there every day.

Blooming lovely lunch, almost too much choice and really good sized portions, I've not been here for years but I'll be back soon.

Would highly recommend getting a booking if you want to dine in on a weekend. The ramen was delicious. They forgot my takoyaki which I assume was because they were so busy. When it arrived it was warm. The filling was cold octopus. I've always had octopus cooked first and added into the takoyaki when it was warm. They may serve a different style of takoyaki but it wasn't for me.

Prawn tempura ramen was served in 3 small grilled prawn 😂😂

Food was great, service was very kind. Would go back 10/10.

I bloody love Fuji Hiro. It's a proper nice vibe in there, always a nice welcome from the staff and other customers too usually... it's that kinda place 🙂 I like going in my Godzilla t-shirt for a more authentic Japanese experience 😌🦖

The food was delicious. I can highly recommend the chicken gyoza and the udon salad. It's not super cheap but it is worth every penny and you certainly won't go hungry!!

We ordered the sashimi set and Salmon Tuna bowl but its taste not fresh, both of us got the diarrhea 😵‍💫😵‍💫we are totally not recommend this restaurant to others.

So unfortunately a bad experience, the staff were accommodating and were really good up until the end, excluding the delay for drinks. Drinks order was taken, 10 mins later food order was taken, 10mins later starters arrive. 10 mins later. No sign of drinks so had to ask, arrived in 30 seconds so clearly forgotten but not fussed about that it doesn’t really matter. Main courses arrive. I ordered the “chicken man noodles” well… it tasted entirely like someone had heated up peanut butter in pan and mixed it with vinegar. I had one mouth full and my partner had one too to confirm it was disgusting. I managed to get the waiters attention after 5 mins and told him I simply didn’t like that dish. He said no problem would you like it taking away, to which I answered yes please. No offer of something else instead so I just thought “meh if they’re not bothered im not going to re order”. Everything else was fine and it comes to getting the bill ( I was charged for the dish to my later surprise £14 ) I payed the bill and he asked me why I didn’t like the dish, my reply “ it tasted exclusively like someone had mixed peanut butter and vinegar together and poured it over noodles” he says “yes that’s basically what it is, anyway some people like it” so I say “ hang on did you charge me for that dish?” To which he replied “ yes unfortunately I still have to bill you for it” to which I replied “ oh right that just means we won’t be coming back again and I’ll tell my friends not to bother” to which he replied “ well the ingredients were used so doesn’t matter if you liked it” we then left the restaurant £60 down, and disappointed with our meal, I got a Chinese takeaway from harbour city on scotthall road on the way home and couldn’t recommend them more lol

Absolutely lovely food!! The chef prepared the dishes with such care and attention to detail, we were impressed by the presentation of the sushi and bento box, which were delicious 😋 My favourite was the Salmon Tataki, soft in the middle and crispy outside with a layer of sesame seeds! Would order this anytime again!

As a regular @Fuji Hiro I have to say it's an excellent place, great atmosphere, food is delicious and decent portions. Closest to the authentic Japanese food you can find in Leeds! Beautiful presentation! Definitely recommend!

點了最簡單的拉麵，結果拉麵卻不日式，麵條也不是拉麵麵條，比較像陽春麵，用了很多大蔥跟洋蔥口味偏中式，又像越式，總之不是日式，價格也不便宜。

Absolutely delicious Japanese food - the ramen bowls and katsu curries are particularly excellent. It is a bit expensive, but worth it as a nice treat. Service was also very good.

The presentation was good but the chirashi don's sashimi ingredients was not fresh at all.

First time here with a party of six and in a hurry to go to the theatre - lovely tasty food for meat eaters and veggies - I loved the Tofu . Friendly service with a smile and good value for money . Would recommend and return - nice atmosphere and thanks ☺️

I ordered the Matcha Milk Tea, but after I tried it I tasted the ginger flavor inside so I asked the waitress immediately why the matcha milk tea has the ginger inside and there’s no instruction on the menu. I won’t recommend this drink cuz the matcha flavor is not enough as the ginger…

Family of three, like to eat out regularly and cook at home too. Fuji Hiro is one of the nicest places in Leeds. Staff very friendly, professional and accommodating. Food excellent quality, cooked, presented and delivered efficiently without delay. We enjoyed our meals today and recommend others to try it out too.

Got a venti box prawn katsu curry was expecting the prawns to be the only battered items but they snuck in vegetables into the katsu battered. I've yet to work out how anyone eats that rice with chopsticks wasnt even sticky rice was something that looked like basmati rice that falls through the chopsticks. I've had katsu curry at all the restaurants I eat at I call it my tester meal this scores lowest the sauce was bland. The gyozas were terrible kinda like half streamed half fried was abit weird all didnt really taste of much still a very generous filling. The squid balls were prob the only best part of the meal and the potato salad thing could of used Japanese mayo instead of english. I was expecting the real japanese chef to be cooking the meals but it must of been the sous chef that wasnt even japanese. Overall wont make a revisit.

Sushis incroyables, service convivial et souriant... La musique était un peu forte et pas très relaxante (même si dans le thème)... L'aménagement est correct même si un petit coup sur les toiles d'araignées au plafond ne serait pas du luxe (un léger détail, honnêtement)... Le tout m'a ravi! Difficile de faire mieux sur la nourriture et le service, c'est ce que je retiens!

The restaurant opens at 12 noon. We would love to order sushi & sashimi, and they told that we have to wait for 15- 20 mins as the boss hasn’t arrived yet. However, we have been waiting for over 45 minutes and the food still hasn’t arrived. One of the worst experience I had in town so far.

The real thing. Authentic Japanese cuisine. Intimate and friendly. Affordable; Popular with city centre workers. Licenced so enjoy a drink. I love the yashai yaki soba. If you struggle with chopsticks use a fork. I visit every time i'm in town. Its always worth it.

Great food, quick service and authentic Japanese atmosphere if slightly compact! Toilets could do with a clean up but apart from that we really enjoyed it!

It's not the best Japanese Katsu Curry in the world. the curry is excellent.

Booked in advance. Staff is nice. Ordered a sashimi don with a variety of sashimi. The sashimis fine until I ate the scallop…(I keep it in for the last as I love scallop) and it taste terrible. You know the taste if seafood is not fresh or not appropriate to eat as it smells like…faeces(?) I chewed a bit and then I spitted it out. Then I tried to talk to a waitress, she was nice. I asked her to smell and she also notice that there were something wrong. However the boss insist this is fresh scallop…haha. I mean, fresh does not mean it is okay to eat if the quality goes wrong. That’s a pity to this supper and I feel like my opinion was disregarded. To be honest I did not ask for any refund or replacement, I just want to remind them if their food is non-edible, but the boss is solely impolite. And I think the boss thought I do not know about sashimi, however he can deceive anyone but not Hongkonger who are really expertises to Japanese food.

My girlfriend loves this place. My opinion is the same. Small but beautiful; that atmosphere and very friendly staff. Tasty food. We will go there again. I recommend it.

The tonkotsu ramen was excellent, but service was a little slow and it was a bit expensive for what it was. I also tried the pork Katsu, which is the main reason for my earlier comment on the high prices as I feel like £9 for a side dish is a bit steep, especially when the side dish is quite small. However, the Tonkotsu Ramen was delicious, with a hearty broth and garnished wonderfully. The best Ramen I've had in Leeds so far, but it isn't cheap!

The sushi didn't taste as fresh as other restaurants, and the staff, whilst very friendly, didn't really understand the menu fully without a conversation between a number of them that took a good 10 minutes.

My wife and I came back on a monthly basic to this lovely place both of us or with friends and family. Always a delight, team smiling, food amazing. We are never in a hurry so we don't mind a bit of wait. Everything cook fresh and made to order !

When people talk about independent restaurants, which are authentic, and worth walking a few corners for? This is one of those. And one of the top in Leeds. Thank you for bringing a taste of Japan to Leeds.

I have been coming here for many years now and it is my favourite authentic Japanese restaurant in Leeds. Great portions, great value and really friendly staff who always make me feel welcome when dining in or when I call to pick up food on my way home from work.

Used to absolutely adore this place, but the service is now shocking… been coming here for the past 5 years and very regularly. This evening i went and was completely ignored and was sat for 30 mins without the order even been taken. Two other couples were seated and had orders taken before us! The prices have increased, they have new menus but the staff have no idea how to run the restaurant. In the end we got up and left!! This restaurant is now more bothered about the deliveries than they are the seated customers. Will not be returning. Very very disappointed!

First visit in over 20 years but really didn't disappoint. Will definitely not be leaving it longer than 20 days this time

Had the tonkutsu ramen and sushi bai on a Thursday night. Food was really good for its price. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because we had to wait an hour and a half for our ramen to arrive. Don't know whether food is slow in general or whether it was just concidentally slow on the night we went.

Are you looking for an authentic yet affordable Japanese in the heart of Leeds City Centre? Fuji Hiro is your top choice. We recently discovered this hidden gem embedded within Merrion Centre. Upon entering the restaurant, the restaurant's interior immediately transports you to Japan! All the dishes were delicious, served hot and fresh! We can’t recommend enough of their signature Shrimp Vegetable Tempura Soba (Mixed vegetables and shrimp with tempura batter and noodles). It is very popular among the locals, so call to make a reservation to avoid disappointment. We can’t wait to go back again.

Amazing food ! Just don’t go there in a big party as everyone’s food may not arrive at the same time. They cook everything fresh and they also say it before you order, so needs a bit of patience to get your food but definitely worth it!

The food is nice, the environment is quite comfortable, the only minor thing to complain is that the staff is too busy to handle everything on her own, causing extra time to order.

The Spicy Tofu and Vegetable Men is amazing

I've been visiting this establishment for many years and the food has always been amazing. I took my partner and he was visiting for the first time and he absolutely loved it too. Portions are generous and food is delicious!

Almost dismissed this teeny place, a couple of doors down from our Hotel, as a generic takeaway. That would have been a big mistake! It’s absolutely fabulous - the environ is basic, though clean and tidy - but the food is amazingly good! Excellent value for money and the staff were efficient and extremely friendly. Love it! Recommended it to my daughter and friends just starting their studies in Leeds - a bit sad I won’t be able to come again for months but it’s certainly going to be something to look forward to when we next visit!

Disappointed again. Very very very inconsistent each time. Poor telephone manner. Non existent management. I just want to point out that this place is under new ownership for about 2 years now. It used to be very good. We have carried on ordering under new ownership. We always order Spicy chicken men noodles and some starters. Tempura prawns bland, no seasoning and undercooked. Each time noodles taste different now. Week one - dry chicken. Week 2 - too dry. Not enough sauce. Week 3 - not enough veg. Mainly noodles. Week 4-(25.09.22) have a look at the pictures. Hardly any veg. Stogy. Funny aftertaste. Did not even tasted like spicy chicken men at all. Dry dry dry. And the best is that i think they have run out of sauce and plonked penaut butter from the jar on the top of my takeaway!! Money down the drain. Half of it End up in the bin today. Telephone manner. I'm sure the lady which answers the phone is nice, but cannot understand English. How can you leave a person in charge with to language skills? Today ordered 2 takeaway noodles only one cook upon collection. One on the bill. Had to wait another 15 min. All in all won't be recommending or coming anymore. I'm very upset...it used to be our favourite. Plenty of new Japanese places around!

It was a bowl of disappointment to me. Sorry, but it was undoubtedly the worst ramen that I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t know why they put karaage (Japanese fried chicken) in my ramen. The batter of the fried chicken sunk in the broth was absolutely soggy and mushy in the bowl of ramen. On top of that, the boiled (or steamed) chicken breast turned brown and hard, which was in an inedible condition for me and my companion. Noodles didn’t taste seasoned or anything, and the broth didn’t taste like anything. The photos were taken after I finished my meal. You can see for yourself how much I enjoyed it.

Awful experience! Order 3 sashimi rice, 1 soba and 1 bento. One of the sashimi rice I add addition eel which should be £4. Wait for 50 mins for the food. Got the bill cost me 2 soba and 2 eel and they only change it back to 1 soba. As they said they gave me double potion of the eel without notice me and they suppose I should know it. How come I know how big the potion is when I come first time?! £4 for one slice of eel. Poor service and so tricky.

"DO NOT " waste your hard earned money going to this restaurant ! food is very cold, service is absolute outrageous !!! if you ask for something it's like they doing you a favour ? Staff have an extremely horrible and nasty attitude!!! Me and my wife went here because we had heard alot about this place, turned out to be absolute terrible worse restaurant ever!!.. never experienced such cold salty food alongside horrible staff!!!This place is a big big 'NO ' Never again !!!
