Shadwell Tandoori in Leeds

Biryani was dry, tasteless and the prawns were not fresh. The rice was undercooked and the tikka masala dishes lacked taste too. The salad was not fresh. Won’t be coming back very disappointed

They sent the wrong order, asked for Prawn and delivered chicken which was not well cooked. then denied what we had ordered in the first place. not good.

It would likely have been 1999 when I first ventured into the Shadwell Tandoori after a Friday night at the Dexter with friends at the age of 18. My friends and I would be one quite the familiar faces.Ordeeinh a Chicken Tikka starter portion and naan became our go to. Well I moved away, travelled the world, got married and have lived in different countries, but when visiting Leeds my wife and I always make an effort to visit the Tandoori. And when I say effort, it really isn't a tough decision. I am now in my third decade as a customer, despite being a long way from a regular I am always greeted as such. These days we compare the speed at which our beards are greying. With the passing of time two things have remained consistent, the welcome and the absolute guarantee of great food. Despite being quite the fan of 'hotter' dishes, my go to is always going to be the Tikka, which is beautifully flavoured and juicy. The accompanying salad balances it nicely and I personally recommend serving it on a naan. My wife is a fiend for hot dishes and a vegetarian and rates the Vegetable madras as a must have. Great stuff guys and let's make it another 3 decades!

Good choice of vegetarian dishes. Easy to order. Delivered a few minutes earlier than estimated time by a friendly and polite man. A few extras included. Delicious all round!

We have been to this restaurant many times over a period of several years and have never been disappointed. The staff are so friendly and make you feel welcome from the start. Excellent value for money and the tastiest curries anywhere! Bring your own wine. Great selection of beers - including a choice of non-alcoholic beers and cider. Anything you can’t finish (large portion sizes for me!) you can take home for the next day. Highly recommend.

I've had a few curries in my time, and this one came recommended. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. I had chicken Biryani. I found the whole dish to be dry. Good job there was a sauce to put on top of it. The sauce was the best thing about it to be fair.

Curry was delicious I did reheat my sides though but definitely good and will order again.

We’re regulars and can honestly say I’ve never had a bad curry. I love the lamb shashlick, the meat is always tender. Poppodoms are always crispy. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Lovely food, lovely atmosphere, great staff. Dishes we had tonight, Tandori chicken on the bone, lamb tiki chargrilled , lamb saag , onion baggies and bombay aloo and a pickle tray with popadoms. Well all the dishes were really lovely , the meat was so tender. The grilled dishes were both low fat, which was perfect for post workout food after the gym. Very impressed with the flavors. We will be back ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Shadwell Tandoori was recommended to us and we wasted no time in visiting. It is a small restaurant but that does not restrict its enticing menu. We thoroughly enjoyed the selection of dishes we chose and appreciated the excellent and friendly service. It is worth noting that, although the front signage of the restaurant says "Fully Licensed", it is not and you have to BOYB. If there is one slight downside, it is the constant procession of takeaway customers passing your table to collect their meals. But the excellence of the cuisine made it all worthwhile. Very good value at around £40 for two.

Had a takeaway from here a few weeks back which was so good decided to eat with friends in the restaurant. Food was amazing both times and service from the guys that run it was great too. This will become both our regular takeaway and sit in place for a curry in future ! Good value too, portion sizes great 👍

Lovely flavours but they don’t seem to be able to make their curries spicy enough for true spice lovers.

Fabulous and plentiful food cooked beautifully. Staff always offer a warm and lasting welcome . Just remember to bring your own alcohol as they only offer soft drinks and water but are more than happy to serve it down you.

Nice enough dining room and priced very reasonably. The popadoms and chicken tikka starter were very decent, but the king prawns starter and shaslik and chicken korma were very average I’m afraid to report (wasn’t convinced they were actually prawns or chicken), not the quality I have experienced in the past. Staff and service was very good though.

Firstly, non of the staff wore a face mask. Secondly, they allowed takeaway customers to come inand mill around without face masks. A disgrace!! The Health Dept should pay them a visit! Take away was cold and very poor. Onion Bhaji like cardboard. Lamb tikka dry, tasteless and cold. Main course chicken balti absolutely tasteless. Chappaty doughy and cold. The cucumber raitha more like porridge with lumps of cucumber. A supermarket curry is a much better bet!

I have been going to Shadwell Tanoori since it opened and can honestly say I have never had a bad meal. We use them for takeaway which is always beautiful food and no different from the meals I have had when I eat in the restaurant.

Wow. I've never been inclined to write a negative review based purely on a shoddy attitude as oppossed to the venue's food. It's NYE, it's busy, I get it which is why I phoned my order through yesterday. 24hrs notice. I note there are a few disgruntled people there already when I arrive with reception staff frantically flicking through the order dockets. 7pm comes so I wait politely for 10 more mins after my 7pm slot then I enquire where my order is. Another 10 mins later it finally arrives 20 mins late. Muttered apologies for my wait before disappearing back into the kitchen. I said to the (evidentally incompetent) reception desk staff that "hopefully the attitude will be better next year?" The muttered response under the breath was "A55hole" I beg your pardon? To which he sheepishly avoids eye contact as he didn't think I'd heard him. Charming after spending £12.95 on what turned out to be a disappointing mediocre King prawn shashlick. Well good luck to you in 2021! I hope your attitude is reflected in your takings for next year. May you and your takeaway fall into oblivion.

We have eaten in and had takeaways from Shadwell Tandoori for 14 years now and never once has there been a dip in the high quality of their food or consistently professional and welcoming service. We consider ourselves very fortunate to live so close to such a reliably high quality restaurant.

We've been going to Shadwell Tandoori for takeout or sit down meals on occasions since it first opened many years ago. We have never had a poor meal. Tonight's takeout was again faultless, freshly cooked and very tasty. A real treat during covid restrictions. Thank you to all the staff who work hard to deliver such a great customer service.

After regularly visiting ‘Shaddy Tandoori’ throughout the late 1980’s and through my youth.... it’s been many many years, as we like a delivery. As I was passing through Slaid Hill, we decided to grab a ‘lockdown takeout’ for old times sake. They recognized me after all these years, in spite of the fact I have much less hair and a few wrinkles 🙄😂 which was a nice welcome. The mixed starter for two was stunning. Tender lamb and chicken tikka, amazing seekh kebab and more. Most impressive of all was the way the salad was packaged. On a shrink wrapped polystyrene tray and lovely presentation, not the usual soggy little plastic bag. The pickle tray was so so generous too, especially the finely chopped onion which was in a large resealable container. Mains were balti lamb and spinach which is our favorite and we have not had it better or more tender from anywhere. Plus a king prawn tikka biriani packed with prawns and a superb veg curry side. Nan bread was lovely and poppadoms were crips and thin end not greasy. £28 for a huge meal for two (some left over for lunch today, yippeeee), for stunning food. Amazing value for money. Will be seeing you again very soon guys.

Left investigating a good local pub for our first nights meal whilst away for 4 days in the caravan near Leeds, and stumbled upon the Shadwell Tandoori. Quick review on Tripadvisor resulted in my daughter and I walking in and ordering for 2 adults and 2 children. Various starters, mains and accompaniments, and rather than go into each dish, its just easier to summarise by stating that the quality of everyone's food was excellent. Portions were pretty good also, quality of the cooking and spicing very good. We could easily have returned on our short stay and certainly would have if we had stayed for a full week. Superb !

I have been quite a few times but am not a regular. It is convenient as a local restaurant, however. Some friends love it, some hate it and I think that overall it is pretty okay. I know what I like from the menu and I like what I order! I'd recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala and pilau rice with chapatti.

Came here yesterday with a couple of freinds. It was our first time dining in normally we have a takeaway but the service we got was fantastic. 'Monna' was excellently really good a time his job. Really sharp and quick service. Food was excellent. Will definitely be dining in again soon. I recommend this to anyone who is wanting a curry

This is our local curry house ,my husband has been coming here for over 25 years and it’s still the best around ,the staff are great and the service very good .The food is excellent,there’s a great selection and they will tweek things for you if they can ,do you get just what you want . This is our local family hang out and we had stopped going for a while as the main courses had seemed to be less appealing over time. (Not much meat, over greasy, tasted a bit the same). Our last 2 visits with a fresh menu were delicious. Tasty, varied and overall yummy this place is back on the list for us!

This small restaurant has modern decor. The food is good and the service very good. It's clean and comfortable. They will also make dishes to your request and very helpful if enjoy trying something new.

Fuimos un jueves por la noche muy ocupado con un número de personas esperando para llevar. A pesar de eso, el personal era muy acogedor y nuestro pedido de comida y bebidas se tomó muy rápidamente. Después de una espera muy razonable, TODA la comida se juntó, muy caliente y con un aspecto muy apetitoso. Sabía tan bien como se veía y todos disfrutamos mucho de nuestra comida. Collected a takeaway from Shadwell Tandoori this week after a long day. Quite an extensive menu so I opted for something I'd never had before, a Naga Tarkari. The portion was generous and absolutely gorgeous. Real depth of flavour and not just a hot curry like some places would probably give you. The restaurant wasn't flash like some in the city are and it was all the better for it. It gave the place a very relaxing and welcoming feel. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

This is a small restaurant . Has about a dozen tables. The staff are polite and helpful and the food arrived in good time and was hot. You can order to over the phone and collect. There is no delivery service available. Will definitely be visiting again.

I 've eaten twice in the restaurant in recent months and had a take-away last night. Really tasty, generous portions and some interesting and unusual options. Loads of vegetarian dishes and also various haddock dishes for those who don't eat meat. We had vegetable chaat, mushroom pakoras, vegetable dansak and fish rogan josh, with naan, egg pulao rice and cucumber raita. A nice complimentary shredded salad and a roti. As much as two of us could eat for £23 - yummy.. .

We have been going to the Shadwell tandoori for 35 years and can honestly say we have never had a bad meal.The curries and especially the naan bread are amazing. In a contempary setting you are fussed over by attentive waiters who cannot do enough for you.Also very reasonably priced.Trust me you will go back time and time again.
