The food was so great, we enjoy coming here every weekend. But there was only one thing that we not happy about. Its the women upstairs (who always playing with her phone), she was so rude and very hard to find her if we need something, always busy with her phone (maybe she is a boss 🫢🫢🫢) . When we finish the meal for a while, she still with her phone, the staff from downstair come to clean and ask us very gently. I think next time we will sit downstair for better service , or no paying service charge for the women upstair 🧐🧐Anw, I want to give them 4-5 stars and hope the women can improve her attitude to enhance the quality of the service here !!!

Off hand service and one of our meals was very poor. Super pricey prawn crackers and apparently it costs more if you want a little more of the tiny serving of sauce that they come with!

I had Quail as a starter. Was ok only. Wouldn't order it again. Main prawns with noodles but got served rice instead. They don't have alcohol there so they told us to go buy to the wine merchant. Which we did. For our surprise they charge £6 to cork the bottle .1st there is no cork. Service charge 10% which it's a bit a con. I ask to remove and waiter said why. I shouldn't have to explain myself . But when you pay £6 to go to a shop buy your own wine and they another £8 for non existent service. Simply wasn't impressed and I been to several Vietnamese restaurants including in Vietnam itself. We were on the basement and there was water coming through the floor boards not sure why. But wasn't raining either Overall Poor

A lovely little spot to have dinner in, small, cosy and secluded from the din of the street despite being quite central (in a little nook just off of Magdalene Bridge). The dishes are all Vietnamese specialities, very fresh, delicious and perfectly sized (despite what some of the other reviews have stated, which gave my party a little bit of pause, we actually found the dishes to be more than large enough to feed a range of adults, although of course nowhere near as large as the sorts of plates one might expect to find in one of the innumerable local pubs). The drinks are limited to non-alcoholic options, as the restaurant doesn't hold a liquor licence, but they do offer per-person corkage for those who'd like to bring their own (which is especially convenient given that The Cambridge Wine Merchants is just off to the other side of the bridge, and open as long as Thanh Binh itself, so always easy to nip into beforehand; the only way it could possibly be any more convenient is if the restaurant also offered ice buckets to store the wine in, but in our case, even without, the staff were incredibly kind and simply offered to keep it stored in their fridge before our plates came out). The prices are fair for Cambridge (about £20 for a main, £10 for a starter or a dessert, £4 for a drink and £3 for corkage), especially given the freshness, range and sorts of ingredients needed to make the dishes and drinks (of which I would especially recommend the fresh juices, particularly the passion fruit which I thought was one of the absolute best I've ever had, quail with garlic on a bed of lettuce, prawn curry and duck curry, although I do also look forward to trying more options).

Food was tasty but accompanying dishes of nice and noodles very small and really had we ran out half way through the meal. We also asked for a little more dipping sauce with the starter as it was a tiny bowl. We discovered we had been charged an extra 1.50 when the bill came!!! Really!! At the end of the meal we were hurried out of the door even though the restaurants advertised closing time was 45 minutes later. We also brought wine with us and paid corkage but no ice buckets are supplied. Shame, if they were a bit more generous with cheap ingredients people may leave more contented

Second visit to this restaurant - first visit was great, served by a young waiter at Saturday lunch-time, great food and no rush. Returned with a group of friends for Friday dinner. 6:30pm start, by 7:45pm the waitress attempted to rush our plates away even though there was food still on some of them. Very dismissive demeanour and lack of basic service skills. We shared desserts, again the waitress was very unpleasant when we requested extra spoons. We were close to finishing our meal, but the waitress brought our bill before we had even asked for it. We were certainly not close to exceeding our allotted table time. The food was great and otherwise the restaurant has a lot going for it, but we will not return if this same waitress is there again. In this instance our conclusion is the waitress showed a really obvious lack of basic training and a dismissive attitude to the diners, this really spoiled the night out.

Another great find as we were exploring the Cambridge town. With a modern setting and a bit of fusion touch to its dishes, the courses were well presented. Yet, authentic tastes of traditional Vietnamese cuisine is still evident in their cooking process. Not much has been adjusted to suit a more westernised taste bud. We enjoy the flavour of all the food, it is very authentic and they display the food very elegantly but the portion was little and its much more expensive. My husband left not feeling full. I got the Vietnamese coffee and it wasn't what I expected, it didn't taste like it was filter at all... almost like it was instant coffee. I am a Vietnamese person who drinks this very often. The staff was welcoming and were very friendly. The atmosphere on the top floor is amazing with all the plants, the painting and decor if you like high ceiling, bright and airy space.

Food quite good, but shameless attempt to rip you off with the bill. I didn't recognise the 3rd item on a handwritten list of 8 or so items as something we had ordered and so queried it. I was told this was the service charge. So, amazingly, the restaurant had managed to calculate the service charge -- on the whole bill -- after writing down only the starters. Of course, in reality, they had sneaked the service charge into the middle of the bill in the hope that customers looking at the bottom line would not see a service charge and would add another one in. I may have gone back, but now, having seen this sharp practice, I certainly will not. Restaurants with dodgy practices do not deserve custom. There are plenty of other choices in Cambridge, such as La Margherita right next door.

Had an extremely frustrating experience with making a reservation at this restaurant and dealing with the staff (particularly the owner upon confrontation). Firstly, it is crucial to note that reservations made through their website are not considered valid. The owner consistently claimed ignorance about these reservations, despite the fact that this issue has been well documented in Google Reviews dating back two years. It is disappointing to see a lack of effort on their part to rectify this ongoing problem. Furthermore, the limited availability for phone reservations adds another layer of inconvenience. The restaurant only accepts calls during their specified serving hours, leaving customers in a bind if they need to reach them outside of that timeframe. This lack of accessibility only serves to compound the frustration associated with making a reservation. Even during their designated serving hours, communication with the staff proved to be a daunting task. They rarely pick up, and in times when they do, they appeared perpetually busy and were quick to hang up when difficulties arose, also conveniently shifting blame onto the customer. I personally experienced this dismissive behaviour when I confronted them about a promised return call that never materialised. Upon visiting the restaurant in person, I was met with rejection and accusations of aggression. The owner of the business stated it had only been 10 mins since she said she would call me back, when it had already been 30 mins. While I understand that waitressing is a busy job and lunch is a busy time, my urgency stemmed from my point 2 above, where it is impossible to call them up outside of serving hours. Their shift for lunch was ending soon, but my reservation for that night had still not been confirmed, and the owner failed to show any understanding or sympathy for the situation. Sadly, a quick glance at previous Google reviews confirms that I am not alone in encountering similar situations of such unprofessionalism and poor customer service. In light of my experience, I feel obliged to caution others when considering making reservations at this restaurant. The conduct of the staff is deeply frustrating and characterised by unsatisfactory responses, a consistent evasion of responsibility, and a strong inclination to shift blame back onto the customer, only serving to spoil what could have been an enjoyable dining experience. What is particularly disheartening is the owner's inability to differentiate between an unhappy customer and a rude one, something which I believe is at the base of working in the service industry. My conversation with the owner ended with her telling me that she did not want to see my face and to find somewhere else to eat, even refusing me for takeout despite making the effort to visit the restaurant in person to clarify their own reservation system issues. It's safe to say I will not be attempting to give business to this establishment any time soon (something probably of relief to the owner as well). Unfortunate as their Pho is one of the more authentic ones in Cambridge city. Be warned.

No review because we couldn’t get a meal because they are too computer inept to post a message saying we are closed for our holiday. Even Google maps entry still announces they are open!! Everyone deserves a holiday. However if you have a booking system on your www make sure it tells customers you are not there. My booking was taken via their www and advised a confirmation within 24 hours NOTHING arrived so I should have been suspicious. Always wanted to try this place because of the cool and many plants! We were sat down in the lower floor which was okay but smelled very much like soup/kitchen - which was right adjacent with an open door. The service was quick and very nice. We shared spring rolls as starter (£9) which were yumm but tiny and barely enough sauce for half a roll. I had the shrimp coconut bamboo curry and my partner the beef curry. Both dishes were incredibly tasty - but tiny and very overprized (£15-17). Like many others commented, I was still hungry after dining there. Even though I love Vietnamese food I don’t think I’ll go back because it is just brazenly overpriced.

Beautiful mom pop vietnamese restaurant decorated with lots of wonderful plants. Spring rolls, pork vermicelli, and dessert are all great & authentic. Atmosphere is quiet and wonderful. Ai Wei Wei dined next to us!!! No alcohol is served. So a great hack is to go to the Cambridge Wine Shop next door and get several good bottles of wine to enjoy at dinner. There is a corkage fee. The only complaint here is that because the door is often open and the restaurant is right next to the street, the traffic noise can be quite annoying.

Booked a table at 7pm with a confirmation email of booking. Walked into the restaurant and was being told need to wait for another 10 minutes. It was okay as I thought maybe the restaurant had a little problem finishing over with last customers. The waitress told us to wait outside even though there was wind blowing. Since my mother was feeling unwell I humbly asked the waitress whether we could possibly wait inside. There was a small table for two people that was clearly available and was not being reserved. My mum was sitting there and the waitress kept pushing my mum to go outside. I felt so stressed and I asked the waitress several times whether there is any possibility to just sit here for waiting. She said exactly the following sentence which I found extremely unfair “you three either sit in this small table or you go outside and waiting for five minutes. The funny thing is the “five minutes” in her mouth is actually thirty minutes as we waited until 7.30pm. She clearly did not realized there was any problem for letting the customer to wait and how her attitude was so pushy and inconsiderate without saying a single word of “sorry”. I have been to this restaurant multiple times in the past year, I had great food and service, except for this time. I understand being a waitress is tiring and tedious. But still, this time is a rather unpleasant and disappointing experience.

Awful Experience Ordered the Vietnam filter coffee with condensed milk. It’s nowhere near filter coffee and tastes like an instant coffee brand I drink often, so I asked the staff whether it is made from instant coffee and he insisted that it was filter coffee. But when I downed the whole cup, there was some undissolved instant coffee powder at the bottom of the cup. Up until that time, the waiter still insisted it was filter coffee. I therefore called the manager. Initially she said it was made from filter coffee, but upon being shown the undissolved clumps she started saying “Yes it is made from instant coffee but we have served this all along and all the rest of our customers had no problem with that. I don’t see where the problem is. It’s just what it is.” Oh come on, are you blaming your customer for being able to tell the difference? Seriously? Then, I pointed out to her that they shouldn’t sell it as Vietnam filter coffee and shouldn’t previously dismiss my complaint by insisting that it is filter coffee (because it is not!). She responded “well, you don’t tell me what to do. If you don’t like the coffee I refund you for the coffee and that’s it.“ I was really speechless at that point. It was the way the manager handled things that really disappointed me. As an Asian, I truly hate to speak ill of my culture and people, but they have let me down so badly.

Great food and attention to detail. With staff being pleasant and helping with questions/suggestions when asked. Amazing beef pho, that is filling without leaving you feeling stodgy and has a great level of warmth, that can be adjusted with the sides of bean sprouts, herbs and chili sauce and hoisin, that worked great for dipping beef in. Only slight mark would be the downstairs seating/toilet, as it's in an older building, the ceiling is lower, so at 6'3 I had to duck slightly. Otherwise, would strongly recommend the dish and would go back to try more!

If you are a wine drinker, do bring your own bottle - they absolutely don't mind. I shall definitely be back many times, with friends and family!

We visited on a Saturday night and the atmosphere was lovely as was the decor. It's not a large restaurant but beautifully decorated with lots of greenery. The food was served with a smile and was really delicious. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. Only one thing let it down was the fact that it is on two floors joined by a steep spiral staircase. This was a bit of a hassle for an elderly member of our party. However, we will visit again.

Had often walked by and always looked tempting, so gave it a go and was so impressed with the whole experience, from the service to the exquisite flavours from the menu. That was earlier in 2022 and now enjoy going back regularly, the last time before Christmas 2022. Can't wait to go again.

The food was delicious and the staff were friendly, I had takeaway- but the restaurant had a great atmosphere when I picked it up, so looking forward to going back soon to eat in. Easily five stars.

Really good and surprising find. We were walking past it, the restaurant has a lot of plants in the window so I thought it was a florist and then I saw the menu. Very very tasty spring rolls and beef soup. We also had the seafood soup. Good big portion of soup and lots of flavour. Will definitely return when we are back in Cambridge.

First time visiting Thanh Binh, but it won't be our last. We went with friends on Saturday night and had tasty authentic food, with friendly fast service. All the flavours were amazing, I'd recommend that they introduce a tasting menu for those of us who are unfamiliar with Vietnamese cuisine. It's BYO, which suited us well as we could bring nice wine and not feel like we were being overcharged. We sat downstairs, that some reviewers don't like, but we thought is cosy rather than gloomy. I recommend a visit, it make look like a coffee shop, but its a real gem!

If we lived in Cambridge, I would come very often to this restaurant! We were drawn in by the decoration but what really impressed us was the delicate flavours and presentation , everything was cooked to perfection and the service staff were very polite. I don’t understand why people say it is overpriced as I consider the prices reasonable for the level of quality that arrives on your plate ! Would definitely recommend!

Much better than the other trendy "Vietnamese" restaurant in town. I've only ordered take-away, but the staff was very friendly, and the food was very good.

Had a WONDERFUL lunch here. Delicious fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. One of the best Phos I’ve ever had. Super friendly staff and very cute cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend

Me and my friend visited this cute restaurant a few week ago, I got a chicken curry and she got a duck one. Having tasted both, I preferred the chicken! Prices are acceptable, and the food was reasonably tasty (although not mind-blowing). The restaurant is fairly small but lovely decorated with lots of plants, and the staff was really friendly.

10 Dec 2022: 1* We have eaten in this restaurant a few times before. The previous experience was good. However, it was the worst experience and service we have this time. Prawns in creamy sauce: over-cooked prawns Chargrilled BBQ pork + rice noodles: hardly chargrilled Caramelized diced pork: pork was too dry. The worst was the service. We sat down and waited for more than 20 minutes before being "served". After we ordered the drink, starter and mains, we were not offered any glass of water. By the time the main courses served to us, our drinks or water still have not turned up. Thus, we chased it. Eventually, the drinks and water were served and then later on the stater came. July 2022: 4*: The best is the deep fried soft shell crab dressed with tamarind sauce. The deep fried quail served with garlic sauce is a bit dry although it is tasty. Rice flour pancake made with coconut cream and filled with king prawns, minced pork, bean sprouts and spring onion is average to me. Roast duck on a bed of egg noodles tastes good but the duck is a bit chewy. Braised beef is cooked well in coconut cream with the right balance of sweet, heat, peanut and coconut. Duck breast cooked in a very rich creamy curry sauce is good texture although some chewy ligaments. The sweet potato was nice and soft but not over cooked. 2020: Not often eat spicy food. Very tasty.

Delicious food, really interesting flavours, beautifully presented. Eating in a restaurant full of healthy and beautiful plants is great, and bringing your own wine makes fine dining affordable.

Great menu and variety. They were out of the quail unfortunately, but the duck choices filled that void superbly. The vegetarian dishes were fantastic as well. Parking for take away can be problematic, but worth the hassle for sure.

Delicious! So much better than any chinese takeaway we've had before. No neon orange sweet & sour here. Just freshly cooked tasty food. The guy who took our order was very friendly and helpful. He even made us a dish that wasn't listed on the menu. Fantastic vegan/vegetarian options. We'll definitely be back.
