The best Chinese food in Cambridge I have ever tasted. Good quality and low price. The store was a bit crowded but I didn't particularly mind. There are many Chinese people and the atmosphere is generally very good.

Delicious! So much better than any chinese takeaway we've had before. No neon orange sweet & sour here. Just freshly cooked tasty food. The guy who took our order was very friendly and helpful. He even made us a dish that wasn't listed on the menu. Fantastic vegan/vegetarian options. We'll definitely be back.

Picked up for takeaway. Excellent value and quality. Fantastic food. Some of the best Chinese food we’ve eaten outside of China. Hearty portion sizes. Kids loved it. We ended up with a meal for 3 and a few other dishes to sample. We’ll be heading back for takeaway very soon!

Chicken fried rice and Special fried rice was bland and white showing no flavouring. Crispy shredded beef was spongey. Asked for a refund and they refused. Had to return back to the place and the lady was very hostile!!

my second home in Cambridge Note: I haven’t seen the lady who always picked up the phone and took orders for a year now. Her colleagues say she is away on a long, long holiday. Wherever you are, I hope you are well, thank you. I come here almost every day for dinner - the fried rice portions are so large and you could ask for extra rice. Very reasonably priced (£6.50 for the large fried rice), and you could order via wechat in advance. Several times I didn’t bring cash, worse still sometimes I forgot pay and just walked out of the restaurant - they would send me a kind message and ask me to pay left time (credit!). I must say Golden House actually got me through my degree. I spent many lonely nights here and seeing the same staff is like family, the food tastes of home. Just so so good. I have graduated but will definitely come back. Three dishes I always get (alternating): - Nasi Goreng Fried Rice (large) - Special Fried Rice (large) - salt and pepper fried squid

I used to come here all the time when I was completing my degree from 2016-2017 and always felt that the quality and price combination simply could not be beat. *Every time* I visit Cambridge, I try to make it to Golden House to get my same favorite dish: the braised pork belly slices and fried tofu. Over the last 8 years, they have managed to maintain the excellent quality that made them a regular staple when I was a student. They are also genuinely kind: I realized that I left my debit card at home in the US on my most recent visit and would have had to pay a huge fine to withdraw from an ATM, and the cashier let me pay by credit card when I explained the situation. They are deserving of all of the success and appreciation they already receive and much, much more.

Reliable regular Chinese food. Big portions. The presence of the local people with the Chinese background who were ordering food here also create some trust in this place.

black sauce chicken (£6.30) - 7/10, oily base. nice and spicy. could use more black bean flavour. garlic fragrance deep fried spicy chicken + duck sauce + chilli oil - 10/10, the new goat. ---- stir fried beef with green chilli pepper - 9/10, very very nice. spicy with a peppery flavour profile. Red curry chicken (£7) - 8.5/10, very similar to the green curry chicken flavour wise (!) but with fried tofu inside instead of broccoli which I'm a big fan of. Malaysian curry beef (£6.50) - 7/10, interesting somewhat smoky curry, but the beef is once again somewhat tough. feel like the chicken curry would be interesting once in a while. chicken green curry, no rice, chilli oil (£7) - 8.5/10, pretty decent curry with a very generous amount of broccoli, eggplant, beans, and bamboo shoot(!), hearty meal, well worth it. beef brisket with brown sauce and mixed vegetables, add chilli oil, no rice (£7) - 10/10, this is it. golden house perfection achieved. it doesn't get better than this. #21 roasted duck rice (w/ chinese leaf) (£7) - 9/10, another winner. truly fantastic. ask for chilli oil, so good. curry beef brisket with chinese leaf, no rice (£7) - 9.5/10, brilliant, my new go to order. ordering the rice box without rice makes it the best value meal I've seen in cambridge. beef with ginger and spring onion - 6.5/10, nice ginger kick but the beef is disappointingly tough. stick to the brisket. beef brisket in brown sauce and chinese leaf - 9/10, superb. the brisket just falls apart. #13 sea spicy pork with aubergine - 8/10, sweet, slightly sour, slightly spicy. good mix of flavours. black fungus and aubergine have a nice textural contrast. #26 - 8/10, great sauce with good mala kick, but the pork belly wasn't quite to my liking. a bit tough and over fried, perhaps that was a one off thing. Chinese Kung Pao chicken - 8.5/10, good mala flavour, very nice. Not much veg unfortunately. Black pepper beef - 8/10 (30) beef w/ sambal sauce - 8.5/10, not exactly sambal but really nice, spicy and starchy

The beef brisket with potatoes and rice is very tasty and reasonable price. This is from their student special menu, the rice is underneath the brisket. I thought this is only for students, but the staff told me t everyone is welcomed to order.

Worst food ever bad , Curry tasted of salt few veg and rawns chucked in a tub off watery curry over flowing the tub when opened it. Disgusting Neveragain neither will my friends.

We don't often order takeaway but this was well worth. On a cold night with roadworks delivery was on time. The lady was lovely and the food was great. Chicken and beef quality was very good. Will recommend 👌

I was looking forward to our visit to celebrate a couple of family birthdays. When we arrived the place was packed full, with a big 40th birthday party in the middle of the restaurant. Basically they'd over stretched themselves as they couldn't cope with some many people in the restaurant ... and all their attention was focussed on the 40th party. We had a catalogue of continual service failures that spoilt the whole evening, including making some on our table wait for food when others had finished the course, no rice served with the main meal, constantly chasing for food, wrong dishes brought to the table. Such a shame as the food it's self was nicely cooked, but that didn't make up for the shambolic service.

If you are looking for a quick, affordable, delicious meal, this is the best spot bar none. I have eaten here more times than I can count and will undoubtedly continue to do so, and yet I doubt I will be able to try all of their dishes. I can recommend with full confidence the 辣子鸡 and 番茄牛腩, or spicy fried chicken and tomato beef. Chicken is super flavourful and scratches that itch for spice, the beef is silky and luscious and the sauce coats the rice beautifully. PSA: Bring cash unless you expect to spend more than £20.

My friend and I had Singapore vermicelli noodles and malay king prawns with cashews. The prawns were delicious with a great balance of sauce. We were both happy. The person on the phone was friendly helpful and polite. The food was ready exactly when they said. We will go again.

One of the most affordable and delish Chinese/Malay cuisine to take away. You can call them and pick it later or just order it through apps like deliveroo or just eat. I've been their costumer since a few years ago and it has never been disappointing. I would also recommend their squid salt and pepper with rice, they are unbeatable!

Eat at your own risk. The look, taste and burnt chilli oil is the reason why we won't be going back. We asked for stir fry chicken and beef dishes and upon picking it up the container was runny. So I asked is this the stir fry dish we ordered, she then said yes it is, we stir fry it and then add water for flavour!....not really sure why you would call something stir fry when it's swimming in flavourless water. Ontop of that, they put tofu in ALL the dishes, and because the dishes were runny the tofu had disintegrated everywhere. I've looked at the menu and none of the dishes we ordered were listed with tofu. Not sure why they added tofu when we didn't ask for it. Clearly it's to cut costs and make the container look fuller.

I have ordered fish boiled in chilli oil, Peking chicken, Deep fried spicy chicken without bones, Salt and pepper aubergine. They are really amazing food! And i really love the fortune cookie.

If Tripadvisor would only allow for a 0 rating. Upon seeing that the restaurant received 4.7stars on uber eats, my partner and I decided to try out this restaurant as they seem to boast a diverse asian menu. We ordered the malay curry rice, sambal four-greens vegetable, tomatos fried eggs and lemon chicken and let me just say as a South Asian living in Europe for the past 6years, this restaurant should not be allowed to continue their business if the food they are serving is this bad. The curry rice was not malay at all (adding in curry powder with water doesnt make a curry), the four-greens sambal dish had NOT a bit of sambal in there (adding in a chinese chilli spice does not make a sambal), the tomatoes fried eggs were drenched in diluted water and the lemon chicken was dry and soaked in a lemon concentrate. None of the food was edible and the chef(s) and restaurants should be ashamed of themselves at serving fake and tasteless food and feel disgraced at how they disrespected the culinary heritage of Chinese/Asians. P.S There are so many good options for Chinese/Asian food in Cambridge, so please do not waste your money on this garbage.

I gave them 2 stars, because the ingredients quality had changed dramatically lately. Their squid is unhealthily salty(anchovies-like)? Sourced from where & why so much salt?. The prawns are definitely from the frozen section. It use to be a lot better. Like everybody else, they are feeling the squeeze. Will not eat there anymore.

Love this place! Their sea spicy aubergine pork with rice is so good that I order it every time. The staff is friendly and quick too. Because they've got a big menu, some dishes are not as good as others, so do try a few different dishes. Still, 5 stars!

The food here is absolutely gorgeous! Each portion looks like from an advertisement poster - right proportions of ingredients and each piece is beautifully prepared, preserving its colour, flavour, juices and texture. Each bite is a joy!

Chinese takeaway shop. Hearty portion. Genuine taste. Students' favourite place for lunch. They offered a range of stir-fry dish with rice. Best part was that the dish tasted great and came in a large portion. Small space, and can have long queue during lunch.

Completely overrated, the place is super cheap. Honestly, what kind of food quality can you expect when everything on the menu has the same price? If it taste good it is just because of the spices and herbs. Good for going there once a month.

Reasonably priced, good food, quick service, and neat packaging. BUT you cannot pay by card unless it's above £20 so be prepared with cash.

This is one of the slowest takeaway places (take 1.5 hours from the order to delivery). I was suggested to make an order one night before to minimise the delivery time to 30 minutes... Absolutely ridiculous! In term of taste, it is just average. I would recommend double seven in the south of train station. Similar price but authentic taste.

Arguably serving the best food + value I've had a chance to encounter and truly a hidden gem/hole in the wall experience of Cambridge. The special menu consistently surprised and delivered on quality with a mix of Chinese, Cantonese, Malaysian, Indonesian dishes - I've never had a bad dish here, and for around 2 years I came here for lunch everyday... Recommended dishes are sambal squid (favourite), roast duck with homemade sauce, garlic fragrance chicken wings, king prawns with vegetables and egg sauce. Don't miss a chance to come here if you're in Cambridge. People with bad reviews below likely picked dishes from the main menu, which are not the highlights of the restaurant - go for the Special menu.

I ate here a couple of times when I was staying on Regent Street. The prices are great, the food is INCREDIBLE! I don't get the complaints - the staff were great (very patient and helpful) with me. I knew with the number of students who were in and out while I ordered that I had picked the right place. Choose the Golden House over any more highly-priced chain restaurants in the area!

Great place for good Asian food. Reasonable and fast.

The most value-for-money restaurant in town. The food is very reasonably priced and is quite tasty. The restaurant primarily functions as a takeaway restaurant. So seating space is very limited. However, it is very cosy if you do take a meal inside the restaurant. It almost feels like having a meal at home. It is especially cosy during the winter when it's freezing outside.

Don't care about the decor (or lack thereof) or the fact that there is seating for about 6 people max in this tiny place (it's primarily take-away anyway). The food is BOMB, like so so good. It is clearly a tiny, family establishment and I wish people would take that into account when they rant and rave about perceived customer service/delivery issues or the interior. Go to a massive, overpriced chain if you want that kind of thing. If you really care first and foremost about fantastic Chinese food, squeeze in here, or get it to go and eat in the park! The lovely owners have clearly put their heart and soul into this food and I think it's dirty pool to ignore that aspect of this small, delicious eatery. I recommend the pho, ginger tofu with spring onions, or pineapple cashew fried rice. All were outstanding.

Best Chinese takeaway in Cambridge, according to myself and several other Chinese people. My research group have their favourite dish numbers memorized, because we go there so much. They have a student menu which is a dish with rice in the same box for £5. They don't have a website, but they do have a Facebook page with the menu shown as photos.

Go there often as a student as they serve a wide variety of Chinese food, great option for takeout. Very friendly service too!

Dishes are generally really good and affordable (£5.50 - £6 on the student's special menu). Service is great as the shop owner is incredibly friendly. It gets really crowded during lunch hour as students from nearby departments frequent Golden House for lunch. I'd recommend ordering on WeChat and specifying your time of arrival so you can eat once you arrive.

My most recent order changed my attitude towards this "restaurant" however. I'd ordered a meal consisting of several items - which then took quite some time to arrive. When it did, the bag was sodden with moisture - literally dripping and pooling. The hot food had obviously been sat within it for some time. The Prawn Toast and Spring Rolls I'd ordered were completely soggy, limp and unpalatable. When I called to raise a complaint, I was told that the best they could was offer £1 off my next order. This was completely unacceptable - especially considering the cost of the two items was £5.50. They would not budge, stating that it was not their fault as the traffic was bad. Terrible customer service - you have been warned.

Great food, especially if ordered from the student menu to eat in. Though there's not much space and it's really a takeaway, the food is quite nice and is fairly cheap. Also there's a charge for use of card so use the cash machine nearby

Very humble and nice person working over the counter. Food is very decent for the price, concept is very interesting - it's just food in a metal bowl and you sit on a chair with no table and eat!

This unpretentious "hole-in-the-wall" eatery received good feedback, and I decided to give it a try. This is most definitely a no frills establishment, but if it were cheap and good, I would be a satisfied customer. They clearly has quite a lot of business when I was there, and this heightened my expectation that the food would be good. I ordered the dry beef kway teow and a squid dish. Both seemed reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the dry beef kway teow was bland and somewhat oily. The squid on the other hand was way too salty. In my view, neither dish would have been acceptable by Singapore standards. Two stars. Not likely to return.

Obviously not much to look at but the food is tasty, cheap, comes quick and the staff are polite. Great for what it is.

I've eaten their food only once. I had a chicken Pad Thai, or at least it was called that. Didn't resemble any other Pad Thai I had in the past. I won't order that again.

If you're looking for really good "bad" (and by bad, I mean slightly greasy, cheap, and fast) Chinese food, then look no further! Your best option if you don't want to spend Charlie Chan or Seven Days prices. Super fast and the tiny restaurant was so full when I arrived to pick up our food! Very cheap too. We got the meal for 2 and it was a lot of food and really delicious! As someone who grew up with authentic Hong Kong food, I can vouch that this is the place most Asian students come to!

Great food check other websites like Trip advisor for a more reviews. Some dishes westerners may not like because certain authentic take away-dishes cater for the chinese/eastern local taste. Which are not found in your average take-away. So may seem to plain for the average customer.

Worst Chinese food we have ever had. Very tough and chewy (meats) and old pieces of vegetables that you would throw away and not use for cooking. The oil used is very heavy and sticks to the roof of your mouth for hours- leaving a bad after taste. Hard to differentiate any individual flavours as all the dishes are smothered in the same heavy oil. We gave it a try as our favourite one(another Chinese take away) next door was closed on Saturday- we did not imagine it would be so bad that i have to write this. We could not finish the food as it was mostly unedible- AVOID this one as there are a few better quality Chinese take- aways in Cambridge despite the large number of students who rely on these places . Some take- aways care about customers and serve good quality food and not just ripping off customers- This place is not cheap either its same price as the better take-aways. Very disappointing.

Basic place. Nice warm meal at very very reasonable price. The food is very tasty. You do not have to wait for long. Not open on Sundays.

Yo uso este lugar varias veces a la semana. Se puede comer dentro o fuera (tiende a ser un poco llena en semestre ya que muchos estudiantes pack, sentarse y parado! ). Por lo tanto, es mejor llamar a través de su orden de primera! La comida es excelente y un 'especial estudiantes' está a sólo 5 libras, pero te dejan comprar incluso si no eres un estudiante. El personal es muy amable y se puede decir que es de un buen nivel y auténtica, ya que suele estar lleno de estudiantes chinos. Te dan una más arroz con mucho si comes en, que se sirve en un gran plato de metal. Barato y alegre lugar económico. Wifi gratuito.

Great Takeaway good value and variety, you can eat in, but in reality it is a takeaway venue, the staff are always polite and they are always busy, Nothing unusual or particularly modern on the menu, but if you are looking for a traditional style Chinese takeaway then you will not go far wrong!

Visited my brother in Cambridge and we ate here several times. This is the staple diet of a lot of Cambridge students. A very hearty Chinese one-bowl freshly cooked hot meal with large portions for a very reasonable price (most meals are only 5 pounds). The quality is pretty good as well, surprised me. Seating is very limited (a few chairs lined in a row) as its mainly for takeout and the student crowd. They were taking a two week summer break and had put up a notice, during my 20 minute sit-down for my meal I overheard several groups of students exclaim that they will "starve" if golden house is closed. seems like a lot of people are very reliant on this place to feed them daily! (Including my brother)
