I still think that this is the best Chinese restaurant in Cambridge, the fried dumplings being the best ever and definitely my favourite dish.

Not a big choice, what we had was very tasty

A nice place to find the home taste.

First time here. Quality food enjoyed by all. Braised pork, copper pot rice and skewers were highlights of our order. We were there early for dinner so it was quiet. Service was excellent and we didn't have to wait long for our food. I expect to return in the future.

The food was very good, but the drinks even better. The mock tails were amazing and interesting and as were the cocktails. The atmosphere and ambience was incredible and it led to an incredibly enjoyable and authentic dining experience. Though costly, this restaurant truly deserves a 5* rating for its interesting food choices arriving hot in steam baskets. Very impressive.

I ordered salt and pepper squid and it was delicious. Huge pieces of squid in a salty spicy breading were just what I wanted. For my main course I had the Bbq pork chow mien which filled me right up. The service was friendly and the dining area was clean. Next time I come here I’ll bring friends and enjoy some beers outside in the garden.

Arrived at around 2.50pm for lunch with the family. Not a particularly warm welcome from the start. The tables were messy, and not many customers. There was a child running around screaming, which belonged to the owner. the toilets were a state. Overflowing bins, bad smells. Not particularly clean at all. I decided to give it a try as we’d read good reviews. I have ADHD, My dad does also, he just wanted a prawn egg fried rice. I just wanted a pork fried rice. I have a real sensitivity to textures due to my condition. My mother also has sesame and nut intolerance which we explained at the start of ordering. We also explained we wanted to make changes to the pork and prawn rice , to which we were met with a somewhat nonchalant agreement to getting modified dishes, and an attempt to upsell me the bigger portion that also contained ingredients I didn’t want. My dad is pescatarian- so eats seafood but not meat. He’s been meat free for 8 years now. His came to the table with chicken in it. He noticed after a mouthful. He was so upset that he went back to the car and me and my mother stayed. We bought the meat in my dads food to the staffs attention. Waitress who took the food back couldn’t have cared less that the order was wrong. Me and my mother (who is sesame and peanut intolerant.) contemplated what to do next. After the mix up with my dads dishes and the general attitude of the staff we didn’t want to risk finishing either my dish or hers. It’s important to note that none of the dishes were particularly hot, certainly not fresh from a wok. Me and my mother decided to not to finish dishes and leave. The owner apologised (perhaps seeing the argument that the poor food had caused with my family) but had no issue charging even though we’d left the majority of the food. We won’t be back.

Love coming here for some proper good grub! We went on the launch of their new dim sum menu and sampled the super tasty xiao long bao and warrior bun! Also tried the Dan Dan noodles for the first time and they reminded me of my time living in Hong Kong! Friends loved it, can't wait to go back again!

The Dumpling Tree is a multi-regional food style Chinese restaurant. They serve delicious dumplings and other dim sum treats, as well as a wide selection of Chinese noodle and rice dishes. Their QR Code menu also has such hidden gems as Dan Dan Noodles, a fiery but delicious dish you must try, if you dare. Their speciality is Yunnan cuisine, which is a totally different Chinese style of cooking from what I'm familiar with. These include some brilliant pork belly dishes and one dish I intend to try next - fried Yunnan cheese, which sounds delicious. Also, be sure to try their blooming teas, such as rose, chrysanthemum, and jasmine. I highly recommend it and would definitely go there again!

everything is good but not the price. obviously this is a restaurant for non-Chinese. Chinese have similar food at much better price 😂

Food average and over priced. Best dish was the dumplings. 3 staff we came across were not friendly at all, didn’t even check if the food was alright and not came once to ask if we wanted more drinks, etc.. Very poor service but put 12.5% service charge on automatically. Won’t be coming back

Took my husband here for a birthday meal and he’s difficult to please. Safe to say it was a hit! He’s been looking for his favourites served at high quality in a restaurant with great atmosphere and The Dumpling Tree did not disappoint. We enjoyed everything we ordered and the staff were the perfect level of attentive. We even had to request some take away containers as we couldn’t bare to leave any. Can’t come back soon enough!

Amazing restaurant!! Brilliant staff!! Fantastic food!! We come here all the time and the food, service and atmosphere is always faultless- will always recommend this place to everyone. Staff members met requests with no discretion to make our meal and experience 10/10!

duck rice is well presented but duck is dry and fatty. seems like duck has been reheated multiple times. Totally disappointed. the only good thing is the egg. Dumpling is good when fried but stodgy when steamed. Service can be improved. Overall is ok but don’t order duck. seems like they don’t make their own roast duck and there is MSG in all dishes.

I really enjoyed our visit to The Dumpling Tree. They have decorated the venue beautifully. Outside has a lovely garden area with lights, flowers and benches. Service was good and staff were attentive. I would 100% recommend the BBQ egg fried rice with pork! It’s usually for a place in Cambridge to have parking but there is parking in the restaurant car park, but also free parking on surrounding roads. But make sure you use the iPad to enter in your number plate!

One of my favourite restaurants in Cambridge, love the food there. But I have to say they service is a hit-and-miss. Especially I didn’t feel welcomed and respected by some of the non-Chinese staff or bartenders. For example, I went there and ordered take-away today. During ordering I didn’t catch what the bartender said, I asked kindly “sorry I didn’t get that, could you repeat please?” He did not want to explain but just shake his head. I felt ignored and disrespected as I’m not native speaker. Also it turned out my order came very late, after the people who ordered before us, after I checked with them about where was my order. Again, I like the food there very much. I just hope the service could be improved. It is kinda ironic to feel ignored and disrespected by the non Chinese staff in a Chinese style restaurant.

Like dumplings, won tons, noodles etc? Give this place a try. A massive upgrade on your usual British Chinese. "Proper Bang Bang"

This is hard to describe - the food is good, the location is ok, but the atmosphere in the bar is great and super unique. In the bar, you could be in london, but the rest is ok. Probably won’t go back because yim wah and Spring restaurant are amazing for chinese food, but we’re glad we went.

Overall very happy with my experience. Service could be a little more attentive. I’ve no idea if there is a desert menu but we certainly weren’t offered one and we weren’t checked on during our meal to see if we were happy or needed more drinks. Food was great, atmosphere really nice.

Excellent food and service. Lots to choose from, too much for a first visit, need to find a reason to return. Only negative, nature of building means sound travels a long way, off putting went close to noisy diners.

One of our favourite restaurant in Cambridge. Food is freshly cooked, delicious and authentic. Not too greasy nor too salty, everything is just right. The waitress was very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

I have visited this restaurant for a couple of times. Excellent good and clean place. DON’T forget to register your car at the restaurant entrance if you want to get free parking.

The food was good. Staff were very helpful when making our reservation and "meet and greet" was very friendly, but actual service wasn't great. The waiting staff weren't very friendly and weren't keen to help.

Made a last minute decision to come here on a Friday night and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and full of flavour. Servers were also lovely. Dumplings were a particular favourite.

Very chilled place with good selection of food, all well made, dumplings were legendary and so was rice noodle.

Came for the quiz. We had the Dirty Dozen twice. One boiled, one fried. Absolutely delicious. I went to their previous location near the leisure park and I'm pleased to see they have a new bigger place. Will be back soon. We won the quiz!

The cost of living crisis has definitely hit this Chinese restaurant. Ordered 12 dumplings which were put in a take away plastic carton, yes all 12. And yes they were tiny, to get 12 in a take away plastic container, I'll give you credit.Even the dip would fit over my thumb, there must have been 20ml for a dozen mini dumplings. These dumplings were poor purely because I have never seen dumplings this small with a 20ml pot. ONE can only wonder why would a restaurant be so petty Still Ive stopped wondering cause I won't be going back, I'll order form a proper Chinese take away in future and not a this restraunt. REMEMBER DUMPLING Tree bad food travels faster than good food 🍲 If your on a diet, this is your place.......

Everything was absolutely brilliant.

The food is utterly amazing. We are regular customers even though we don’t live in Cambridge. Parking is free which is amazing. Everyone is very friendly.

Food really was amazing, it was just such a shame that they were playing terrible loud music after asking a few times and finally asking could they change it,they did to lovely music. Why do we need loud music in a restaurant?

From we moment we entered the restaurant the staff were very warm and welcoming. Our server was very knowledgable. The food was so delicious and fresh. We were dining as a family of four, and there was a-lot of choice to keep us all happy. They kindly gave my daughter a complimentary ice cream sundae, which was a real treat. We would definitely recommend this place.

Good food. Real dumplings specialists. I'm not sure of the soup though., bit bland and lacked flavour in my opinion. Service is reasonable but a bit of a friendly smile and chat would have made it perfect. We were there on 6th April 24.

We had a fantastic afternoon doing a family dumpling making course. Our course leader was very friendly and showed us some different ways to make up the dumplings. She was especially helpful in suggesting easier methods for the children to try. Everyone made 12 dumplings that the staff cooked and then we had a delicious feast. The vegetarians and vegans made vegetable dumplings and the meat-eaters made pork and Chinese chives dumplings. Lots of fun- I’d highly recommend it!

We initially posted in a local Facebook group (Cambridge Foodies) looking for ideas of where we could go out for a dinner date on a budget, and The Dumpling Tree reached out and invited us to come and have dinner there, so we made a reservation. I'm SO glad we did! We had a phenomenal time - on arrival they were incredibly friendly and welcoming (and remained friendly and helpful throughout the evening), then we got seated in a nice booth near the front of the building - and despite it also being a bar, it wasn't loud or rowdy - there was a nice atmosphere, and we could also have a conversation over dinner. The cocktail I ordered was really good, and the food itself was just fantastic - the sticky ribs had a good amount of meat on them (not always my experience when ordering chinese) and were super tender, the bao and dumplings were delicious, and the duck pancakes I ordered were amazing. The duck itself was some of the best duck I've ever tasted. Couldn't be happier - perfect date night, perfect dinner. We'll definitely be back!

The tofu rice noodle bean flower rice line is topped with Gochujang (Korean chili sauce), which is unacceptable.

Quality of food has improved significantly and it seems to be doing extremely well. The place has original Yunan province and it's authentic nature is preserved.

Really nice food and amazing drinks! I highly recommend for anyone who wants to eat Asian food 👌 They have happy hour that starts on 19:30 Unfortunately, when i ordered 19:29, even when they put the order 19:33 they still charge you the full price (even when the receipt says 19:33...).

Really lovely experience. We went for a birthday meal and the birthday girl got a free 2 for 1 cocktail. The waitress was attentive and very friendly. Food was excellent. Will definitely go again :)

Two weeks ago on a Friday night, we went for dinner without reservations. Despite several available tables, they informed us that hosting without a reservation wasn't possible. Even if they could provide a table, the kitchen couldn't handle the order, resulting in a wait of over an hour. We finally made it this Wednesday; the food delivery time was normal, and Yunnan cuisine proved to be exceptional and unique in the UK. It might be too spicy for those not accustomed to regular spicy dishes. I highly recommend trying the Cross-the-Bridge rice noodles. However, there was an issue with the tea service as they charged per person, not per pot. With five of us, we only received two pots of Pu'er tea.

Good Chinese restaurant. Excellent dumplings, rest of the menu is good with some classics as well as well thought out local dishes. Limited drinks list and the ambience can be sterile, but the food is wholesome and plenty. Great for takeaways too.

The whole atmosphere of the establishment was amazing! Beautifully decorated and relaxed. The staff were extremely kind and attentive and the food was just fantastic. I can't give this place enough stars!! We will definitely be back many more times - already planning when our next visit can be!! I’ve been here a few times in the last year and it’s clear they’ve stepped up their game. New interiors look amazing, new menu was even better. Staff were so friendly and was a reasonable price especially with the happy hour (cocktails were the best I’ve tasted in a while!) , will defo be back soon. Would recommend the salt and chilli squid and the fried dumplings.

First visit and really enjoyed ourselves. Easy to book online and made to feel welcome on arrival. Great food and drink . Good selection of GF food one of us and she would love to try other menu items if they could be made GF. We will be booking again in the future.
