Thali & Pickles in Wandsworth

This restaurant doesn't exist! OpenTable needs to do a better job, as the restaurant where this place is had no idea about my reservation. It is called Tongi and luckily, they accommodated my timing.

Food was fresh and wonderfully seasoned. Service was prompt and friendly. So nice to sit under the trees on a warm evening. Close to our hotel!!!

Having lived in Balham for over 30 years and seen this one pop up a few years ago but had not yet tried, we decided to give it a go. BIG mistake, HUGE!!!! Made a reservation online, totally unnecessary as place was empty when we got there at 7 pm.

I never like to give negative reviews normally so this is completely out of character however, I can't not warn people off this place having experienced such a dreadful evening there - from the service to the food, i cannot think of one thing to praise. The guy serving was sullen, unfriendly and reluctant to interact in any way. The food was quite easily the worst indian food i've ever tasted (and i have a fairly low bar!), the dips were synthetic - you'd buy better at the local Aldi store, and the meat was dry, the vegetable korma looked like mashed baby food, bright yellow with a few peas chucked in - totally unappetising and the Saag paneer had clearly just been re-heated in a microwave. By-pass this restaurant and head two minutes to the local Sainbury's where you could pick up a takeaway Indian meal box for half the price and with a significantly higher quality!! I can only think we went on a bad day and maybe the chef didn't make it in so someone was covering at the last minute, Nice tablecloths though.

We visited here before the Christmas busy period, it was a Wednesday evening. We had the place to ourselves before later a few others dined here. The service was impeccable, the food was so delicious and very hot, the table presentation was perfect, the toilet was cleanest ive seen in restaurants, the cobra beer was amazing and we had the most amazing time here. Totally Recommended for everyone to try. I had the vegetable pasanda My ‘better half’ had the chicken tikka masala Two superb dishes indeed.

Authentic Indian food. Went for a romantic meal. Service was great. Food was hot and authentic. Very fresh.

50% off but then portion sizes are 25% - 5 tiny cubes of meat for £5. Meat was dry. Curry portions are small.

I had the Lamb Thali which was nice but lacked flavour in most of the dishes. Service was quite slow as well despite it not being that busy. Disappointing based on the rating of this restaurant.

I went to this restaurant a couple of years ago and it was excellent but the menu is completely different now and is more anglicised and not very authentic. The prices are more expensive too. I didn't rate the food this time at all. The restaurant was empty all evening apart from 2 other people. We ordered a bottle of wine from the menu for £25 and they brought a different bottle of wine but did not tell us. We noticed once we had started drinking it was different and asked as the bottle of wine we had been given was a cheaper wine. They tried to tell us it was the same price as the other bottle of wine until we complained. We thought it was a bit sneaky as they should have told us when they brought the wine over to the table rather than trying to make extra money and pass off a cheaper bottle of wine hoping we wouldn't notice, They also applied quite a substantial service charge. I won't be returning.

Absolutely awful, I should have known when I booked the table as the staff appeared to be totally uninterested! This dreadful attitude was demonstrated in ample quantity this evening. They got the initial drinks order wrong and were not welcoming at all. There is no polite way of saying this but the food was terrible. I am, and remain, a huge fan of Indian food but all the dishes were bland and they even managed to forget one of my colleagues food which was eventually delivered after we had all finished. I have never left an Indian meal but did today, a first for me! To top it all they the tried to charge me a substantial service charge! At 9.30pm the restaurant was completely empty with the exception of my party of 7 people, all the other restaurants in Balham were packed, this alone tells you all you need to know. Avoid, do not book here!

Have just thrown chicken jalfrezi , egg fried rice and spinach side straight in bin after couple of fork falls which spat out . I regularly eat curry and this was probably worst I have ever tasted , so salty to the point of making you heave , what a complete waste of money

Lovely evening with friendly staff and delicious food in a convenient location. Will definitely be coming back soon!!

Awesome food, the thali tray was so fun and everything was delicious. Big cheap beers too - happy days! Service very friendly, and a lovely atmosphere too…

We visited Thali and Pickles post lockdown - it was my first visit - and I can highly recommend it. We had the lamb Thali, chilli paneer with a few bevs, with a complimentary shot, all served by the lovely Sowrov. 10/10. We will be back!

Multi and Sowrov were wonderful and the food was awesome. We went to the local new Chinese (the red duck) but that was over priced so we left and came here This place has authentic Bangladesh food that was sublime .

Ordered on deliveroo and didn't receive 3 of our ordered dishes. Partial refund requested via deliveroo was declined, presumably because Thali and Pickles lied to say they had delivered all dishes.

Came here on a bit of a whim really. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere is nice with decent lighting.I ordered a chefs special curry which wasn’t very special, lacked and depth of flavour and was a bit plain. Not what you’d expect for a special. She had a korma which was ok, but again not the greatest. The pilau was good, particularly liked the crispy onions on top and the peshwari naan was quite good. All in was ok, with reasonable prices. I will come back again if we’re desperate for a curry but will more than likely just head down to Tooting

We managed to get a table for 2 on a busy evening but reservations are recommended. By chance, a small table was available. I have often passed this restaurant on the train on the way home and had always wanted to pop in and I am glad we stopped in. The food was really great and we ordered chicken masala and chicken dansak with pilau rice and a few drinks. The curries had so much flavour and my dansak had great heat. The service was so good and the staff were so attentive - great little place

The restaurant is okay, they have a good atmosphere its lively for a Friday night. The portions are quite small, food is okay but nothing out of the ordinary - modest about the restaurant.

Booked and called to confirm. Got there stood outside for 40 mins with no explanation, no table and no food. Went home. Based on some of these reviews maybe we got lucky!

Completely overbooked so never got inside the restaurant

They completely messed up their booking system so we didn’t get seated for over an hour. Food tasted like it all came out of frozen bag—. Awful, avoid at all costs!

A very poor experience. £5 for 3 poppadums and chutneys. Avoid the lamb samosas - I saw the chef get them out of a frozen catering bag... they don’t even make these themselves! Ordered a couple of curries which were lukewarm at best. I saw the chef put rice in the microwave... come on... what sort of “restaurant” is this?! Portions are tiny, poorly made, tasteless and expensive. There are MUCH better places to eat in Balham. I’d avoid this place if I were you!

Visited this place with my family the interior is beautiful and posh.Service was 10/10 and food was amazing they had hand sanitizer placed inside aswell as giving it to every customer on entry.Waiter recommended some of the most delicious dishes on the menu.We would defo be returning to this restaurant!!

Booked for 7 pm, still waiting for table at 7.50. Walked away. Staff not wearing face masks, couldn’t see any hand sanitizer near entrance, and not clear if contact information being asked for. I believe the food is good, from a takeaway I had in the past, but I have no confidence that this establishment is Covid aware, or organised enough to prioritise booking customers , with a view to securing longer term customer loyalty. Not sure I will bother going back.

We ordered from this place all through lockdown and it was amazing. Tonight we enjoyed a meal out as a household and were delighted by the excellent food and service. Felt very safe and clean. The peshwari naan is the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommended; Kiron and his colleagues are gems.

We ordered a takeaway from Thali as a change from the Indian room and the food was ok but what has really put me off is the numerous text messages which I tried to stop but was unable to until today when it was suggested it could be done by texting STOP to another number. Basically a lot of hassle so will be using the Indian room from now on

We have eaten here as a family on a number of occasions (as well as ordering food to be delivered). The food and service are always fantastic and it is my eldest son’s absolute favourite restaurant. We are delighted that they have now re-opened for delivery and hope that the local area supports them in this difficult time.

For me, having lived in Balham for over 4 years, Thali Pickle remains the most authentic Indian experience of flavours and tastes of genuine India. The team are just as genuine. If you want a taste of genuine Indian food, just try it and see!

Was disappointing over Xmas when we visited, the Bhuna and Madras dishes wern't the normal flavours. Rice dish was rather small and peshwari nan was rather dry.

Fantastic service and flavoursome food, I’ve ate in various Indians around London and Thali Pickles Balham definitely ranks amongst one of the best.

We've been coming here a long time and have always had a fantastic meal - whether as a pair or large group. The vegetarian offering is brilliant, as is the meat - surprises like the calamari is a big hit with our family. Really friendly staff and service makes this a great, easy meal out. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone in the area!
