Thai Lanna in Stafford

We visited on Saturday evening, as a group of five, to celebrate two birthdays - an 18th and an 89th, and we all really enjoyed it. We tried various options from the set menus and were really impressed with both the range of dishes and their quality. Good service, very competitive prices.

What a great find whilst travelling through on the canal, visited other restaurants in Stone on previous occasions & not sure how we missed this gem. Fabulous food prepared & served by just two lovely ladies - highly recommend it!

I visited this premises as we used yo love coming here, but this time was awful, food didn't taste fresh, tiny portions and almost chaotic service. What I'm more upset about is that after I looked, this level 5 hygiene rated premises hasn't been inspected by Stafford Environmental Health for almost a decade. Absolutely shocking!

Got a take-away on the final night of our holiday in stone . When we got home we were left short 2 portions of rice , the food was of very poor quality and overpriced, so tasteless and very little food Over very disappointing

First visit and well recommended. Food is authentic, service great with good Thai background music. Really enjoyed it. Only reason 4 not 5 for food is just due to the tom yum soup starter being particularly small - would expect a slightly bigger bowl - what was served was excellent. They also don't provide any thai prawn crackers which usually compliment Thai mains well.

Wonderful meal. Booked in advance, but an extra two turned up for a surprise meal for my son. Very accommodating, beautiful meal, can't fault. Highly recommend 👌 ❤️

Really nice food, place and staff BUT small portions. 7 of us ordered 7 set meals at £23:50 each. Appetisers were amazing - one piece of each starter each - really tasty and perfectly cooked and presented. MAINS….- amazingly tasty and perfectly presented - BUT quantity was really disappointing. The menu states 4 main courses to share - with enough for each person to enjoy. We received 4 tiny dishes of each main course to share between 7 of us - not 4 x 7 - just 4 to share. We each got a tiny bit of each of the 4 main courses. Disappointed

Midweek birthday dinner. They made us very welcome and the food was superb, bearly cost more than last week's trip to the pizza takeaway!

We chose this restaurant on a whim, given that my wife had little experience of Thai cuisine. We elected for the Chiang Rai set meal which comprised Thai Green Curry, Lean Beef in red Wine sauce, Pork with Thai chilli sauce, stir-fried mixed vegetables all served with fried rice. Everything was delicious and spicy, just what we wanted. Service was pleasant, prompt and understated. All round a most enjoyable evening.

I couldn’t recommend this beautiful restaurant enough. The food is as good as it gets and the service is always very welcoming and warm. I never write reviews but I simply have to for this restaurant. The best restaurant in stone by a mile. Can’t wait to come back! - also delicious vegan options (I have a tofu green Thai curry and it’s stunning!) xx

I booked this table for my 89 year old Father in law, my two children (aged 7 and 8) along with my mum, dad and husband. I ordered a lime soda hoping it would be similar to the ones I’d had in thailand with real limes but it was a massive pint glass filled with too much lime cordial. Not the best start. We arrived at 6.30pm and there was hardly anyone in at first. we ordered way before most tables and our food took around 50 minutes to arrive. not great when you are out with someone elderly and two kids who thankfully were really patient. We asked where our food was and were told “soon” several times. the dishes finally arrived although not all at once and we had to keep reminding them what we had ordered as they had obviously forgotten. my vegetarian red curry was edible but mediocre. my children’s chicken sweet and sour and fish sweet and sour was terribly overpriced at around £10.50 for a tiny plate. My husbands lemon grass chicken was salty. my dads starter arrived after the mains - we asked them to bring all at once as didn’t want to delay things even further by waiting tor the starter. The waitress did apologise and said the long wait was because it was so busy - but we saw many, many tables served before us who had arrived after us and we pointed that out. what was most disappointing is that they didn’t knock off a round of drinks or offer us some dessert or a discount - if you have left customers waiting then you should acknowledge that with some kind of good will gesture that’s the first rule of customer service surely? If they had done that, it would have gone some way towards recognising the terrible service we received and might have changed my mind about the restaurant. As it is, I would never go back again and would tell friends not to bother either.

First time visit so not sure what to expect but it was great. We chose a set meal as we had no previous experience of Thai food and were served an amazing meal of mixed starters and 5 seperate dishes all varied in taste. Food was great as was the service the staff were very friendly and attentive. However, for a Friday night it was very quite with only a few other customers in so there was not a lot of atmosphere...but I would recomend this restaurant.

I was going to treat my partner to a Thai experience. After reading this..."we are conscious that we cannot significantly compromise our service to 99.9% of our customers for the benefit of 0.1%." (my partner is a celiac) we most definitely will not be giving our custom to Thai Lanna.

I will never eat there again they got my food wrong twice and i still at to send it back, then they charged me 6% for table service which it clearly states you only have to pay service charge if the table is for 4 or more as there was only two of us a bit of a joke absolutely Rob dogs would never go there and spend my money again. When I asked them why are they charging me 6% service charge their reply was they charge service charge in London and the food is a lot more expensive there Well we ain't in London we are in Staffordshire and London table services is optional if you want to pay them Absolutely daylight Robbery

The restaurant's not much to look at but the food's the star of the show, as it should be. So many restaurants nowadays are style over substance, but it's the reverse here. I had coconut rice with beef and cashew nuts, and it was divine.

We visit this restaurant on an annual basis as we love Thai food and we try and discover a good Thai restaurant whenever we travel. On this occasion it was for Fathers Day and it did not dissapoint. We opted for the set meal for four. The starters are a little different from most Thai restaurants with lovely sauces. The mains were all lovely with a combination of heat and flavours. We had a lovely bottle of Prosecco and Merlot. The staff are welcoming, friendly and the surroundings are great. All in all a lovely experience.

Just had a wonderful meal at Thai Lanna. So delicious. Had the shared platter followed by mixed seafood and rice. Husband had duck in spicy ginger sauce. Service was second to none. Highly recommended.

Service and quality of food was good but portions could be better. Ordered two portions of rice but only received a medium sized bowl of rice which I didn't feel was value for money.

Overall not a great experience, had tempura battered veg and prawns for starters, these had to go back as the prawns were incredibly overcooked. The batter was very heavy, dense and greasy. Didn't look fresh and appeared to have been fried more than once. The waitress that served us was pleasant enough. Had 'Pad See Ew' (I think) for the main, wasn't anything wrong as such, reasonably priced but nothing special. When paying however there appeared to be a bit of confusion over how the waitress was using the card machine. The manager (I think) and waitress stood at our table and were arguing over how to use the machine in their native language. It was a little rude and I had no idea what was going on as the card machine was snatched back and forward between them. I asked for a receipt, they went to fetch me one and as I was leaving the exact same thing happened again. I said its okay don't worry about the receipt but they were too wrapped up in arguing with each other to hear me. I had got bored of the drama and walked out. It was also pretty cold in there. Don't think I'll go again, it's a shame really as we thought we would try this place based on the good reviews.

Nice place to dine, really good food. The only fault is the dishes are very small for the money they charge. l had a meal there twice and still left hungry, be aware, the dishes are very small.

Nice and cosy environment to dine. The food was outstanding, everyone in our group enjoyed their food and we all had different meals. The food is really good value. Plenty of choice, with meals catering for all. The waiting staff were polite and helpful and the food was served promptly. Booked in advance and the place was full, so recommend booking especially Friday to Sunday.

Outstanding Thai food and so glad I found this place. The Pad Thai was better than most of the ones I've had in Thailand and brilliant they do smaller portions or larger portions for sharing. Excellent service and my definite go to place when I'm in the area. Make sure you book between Thurs-Sat.

Nice food, well priced. We tried the set menu for two and for £16 each it was a great chance to try a few different things. I'm pleased to say everything was very nice. It was not busy but had a few tables in and the service was great. Really can't complain and I'm sure we will be back.

Very busy and felt very sorry for our waitress rushing around trying to cope. Rather understaffed and the food was nothing particularly special. One or two extra staff would make all the difference.

We eat here regularly and it never disappoints ; during lockdown their takeaway service was excellent.

Great meal had by all six of us, we all had different dishes of which was everybody was pleased with, good service.

Wow, absolutely excellent, delicious, freshly cooked food! Cannot fault it one bit. We had a starters and mains. I am a vegetarian (my partner is not) and they catered exceptionally well for that. Please don't let the look of the place put you off - (as it does need an update in terms of decor) as the chef will blow you away with their outstanding skills!! Lovely people too, very friendly and welcoming.

We had a delicious take away meal tonight. It was easy to order, a good price, ready on time and tasted amazing. We went for one of the set menus and each dish was inviting and flavoursome.

Stopped here on Friday night without booking and luckily got a table because of spacing for covid. Went for one of the set menus and it was delicious and filling. Starters were presented well, soup was flavoursome then we had four choices of the main with rice. Quite an extensive menu which is why we went for set menu which we enjoyed, would recommend.

Visited yesterday as a family of four. We stood for over 5 minutes in the doorway (unable to enter due to social distancing) while the lady/ manager continued to pour drinks behind the bar without even acknowledging us. When we came to order we didn’t want starters and I ordered the rice for the main course first to be basically told off for doing it in the wrong order (what does it matter??) After ordering we were told that because, by then, there were other people who had arrived after us now in the restaurant who wanted starters that we may have a wait for our food as we had only ordered a main course. But that they would “do their best”. I didn’t think this was acceptable really as in a restaurant people often come and go at different times so the kitchen should be able to prepare different courses simultaneously for different groups. In the end it was about 25 minutes but I don’t think it should have been brought up at all. This was all from the same lady who had been behind the bar at the start. The food was delicious and I would have no hesitation in recommending it based on the food. Not terribly attentive once the food arrived, no enquiries about more drinks etc From a COVID point of view it was cramped. I appreciate it is a small space but it did feel overcrowded compared to other places we have been. Our last visit the service was very slow, this time quite unwelcoming. Not sure we will go again

I came with my friend for a meal and really enjoyed it. We had the grilled king prawns with thai chilli sauce to start and then I had the penang beef curry while my friend had duck in plum sauce. Altogether with drinks it came to £48 which I thought was very good. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and the staff are very pleasant. They also do a take away service but I'm not sure if they deliver. I'll definitely be going there again.

Popped in as we were out on a night in Stone. Met by a very friendly lady, who offered us an area of the restaurant, and said.... pick a table. Very nice surroundings, nothing extravagant, but what you would expect for a mid range restaurant. Good selection of food, and authentic. I wont do what some people do, and bore you with their food choices. Just try the restaurant, and you wont be disappointed.. would I go again, yes

My wife, 3 year-old boy and myself came here tonight, and had the best possible meal. Drinks were very reasonably priced. We ordered the platter to start and all freshly cooked and lovely. Most Asian places we have visited it’s easy to tell that it’s brought in and then cooked, but this was definitely freshly done. The prawn toast was especially good. We both ordered the jungle curry for main, and it was as good as I’ve had, out of Thailand. My wife had pork and I had chicken. All the flavours were there, and every mouthful had a different hit, whether sweet/sour/salt/spice. The chef obviously knows how to flavour. Great service, lovely staff, and we can truly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Asian cuisine!! We don’t live anywhere near here, but we feel the need to come back to Staffordshire again, just to come here.

Food is excellent. Best Thai beef salad I have had in a long time. Good value. Only one small complaint. Early doors dinner, so service was a little limited when we arrived but got so much better later on.

The food was good. I had chicken red curry. Liked the way it was served over a little flame to keep it hot. Service was fast. Very hot night so it was stuffy and air conditioner was set on 30.

Visited with 2 friends who had never visited Thai restaurant and were unsure what they would like. As one was vegetarian we had the Flexitarian set menu at £17 each. It really was superb, so tasty with such a variety of food. Big platter of appetisers with sauces with carved vegetables and lovely sticky rice. These were very filling. Then 4 main dishes with rice all a different taste but the flavourings were subtle not overwhelming. My friend's really enjoyed the meal and said they would definitely return. The staff were so friendly and no pressure to eat quickly. We had chance to relax and chat while enjoying the food and atmosphere. Reasonably priced as well. Highly recommended.

I’ve visited a few times for solo lunches and it’s just absolutely wonderful. The food is great and the service is lovely - some really chatty and kind ladies have served me ☺️ a proper little gem!

We went on a Saturday night with family.Having been to Thailand it really is authentic.I can recommend the Laab gai, the jungle curry and stir fry duck, the stir fry vegetables are terrific to such flavours, compliments to the chef!!!Only down side is the owner needs to get more staff on for busy times. We will be back again.

6 of us went for my wife's birthday, the food was excellent and service great too. We had a set meal and enjoyed all the courses - particularly the hot and sour soup.

The best Thai food around, definitely the most authentic flavours. We regularly have takeaway from here and they're always on time and ready for you.

A proper Thai restaurant, feels family run and not like a chain restaurant. Extensive menu & nice Thai beer. My starter was average at best, crispy noodles with prawns (2!) and I wouldn't buy it again. The main was lovely, a green curry with a nice level of spice, awesome sticky rice. It also very reasonably priced! Will come again next time I am in the area.

My 14 strong team of staff and partners descended for our works Christmas do. We were several drinks in and in the right mood for a great night out. We arrived to find our table set, the room was comfortably warm. The food started to arrive after 45 minutes which was a bit longer than I thought it would be but to be fair we were a large group and we hadn’t pre ordered. The food was excellent - without exception, it was also piping hot and there was plenty of it. Cost wise it averaged out at £25 each including drinks. Very happy with that and we will be back.

Over priced drinks,very small portions I had the king prawn starter as a treat but only got 3 prawns then on to a chicken jungle curry but I think chicken must be hard to find in the jungle as that was a child sized meal at best but was cooked hot and fresh ,not the best Thai curry I've had then thay forgot my rice that you pay extra for ,it soon arrived after asking for it (I'm sure if we was closer to the kitchen I would of herd the microwave ping)..shame we was looking to going out for Thai.
