Took 91 yr old dad as he says he’s an expert on Sunday carvery’s and he loved it! We all said it was like Sunday lunch from your mums kitchen ! Praise indeed!!!! All staff friendly helpful service good beer and food excellent! There will be more visits to Thatched House but will book a table as it’s popular and people are going to this gem of a pub ! Great lunch out …thank you Michael😊

Found this pub on the recommendation of a friend, nothing too fancy and simple yet fantastic food. A hearty portion of whatever you order ensures no one goes hungry. Came once to see of was as good as the recommendation and been most weeks since for the past year or so. Quiz on a Wednesday adds some entertainment after a meal and everything in the pub is reasonably priced too. Just a great pub with great food and great staff.

We come here for over 7 years whenever we are in the area for the 2 course Sunday lunch & can say with all sincerity that you will not find a better all round deal. The food is fantastic, the price remarkable & the staff really friendly. Try it, you will not be disappointed!

Wow! Total pot luck that we fell along this pub as a half way point to meet family. It. Doesn't look like much from the outside but a lovely quaint feel when you go into the lounge bar. The most lovely family garden and play area to the back of he pub and a small balcony area which offers the most stunning views of rural Wakefield. Sunday lunch....... OMG £7.50 for a fabulous FRESH carvery AND pudding! Lovely friendly staff, the manager is so amenable and accommodating........ we will be back and can't recommend it enough.

This was our second visit for food. Totally different experience and never again. We went for Sunday carvery. We went downstairs through a door that said restaurant. It meant basement. A few tables, all dirty, all the staff were too busy with jugs of gravy to clean them. The wall of the staircase had holes in it that were going mouldy and were dirty. Sorry but it was really unclean. I didn't eat my food, I just wanted out. The staff seem pleasant but unless it is cleaner I won't eat there. Shame as the time before when I was upstairs it seemed ok, but the standards in the restaurant made me wonder about the kitchen. I did check the council hygiene rating after and reminded myself there's a reason they exist.

We had our mothers wake here as requested by her months earlier. They did a buffet for us at a very reasonable price which was lush and was enjoyed by all. ServiCe at the bar was very good to say we packed the place out too. Would fully recomend.

It’s taken me a while to write this review as I am so disappointed. We were seated at 3pm when we saw the older waitress , Jackie , eating leftovers and drinking round the corner. Additionally she failed to bring us our mandatory bread which we also saw her eat.i would like it to be noted the rest of the staff were very helpful and polite. An argument broke out between one of the younger members of staff and Jackie and she was heard swearing and threatening to send other staff members home. This was completely inappropriate to do infornt of customers. After we finished our meal we requested tea and coffee. Once again Jackie was seen drinking tea at the tea station. Food was lovely , not sure I will return due to certain members of staff.

What an absolute gem The Angel is! As non-locals spoiled for choice, we were thrilled to stumble upon this standout for Sunday lunch. From start to finish, The Angel delivered an exceptional experience that ticked every box. The staff were warm, attentive, and professional, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The decor was tasteful and well-maintained, with a spotless dining area that set the tone for a delightful meal. The ambiance struck a perfect balance cozy yet refined, ideal for a relaxed Sunday. The food, however, was the true star. We kicked off with a shared scotch egg wrapped in black pudding, a dish that could easily go wrong but was executed flawlessly. The egg was perfectly cooked, the black pudding added a rich depth, and the accompanying small salad brought a fresh, vibrant contrast. It was a taste sensation, beautifully presented. For mains, we indulged in the Sunday roast, and wow what a feast! The towering, golden Yorkshire puddings were a sight to behold. I opted for the gammon, which melted in the mouth with every bite, while my partner chose the beef, equally tender and flavorful. The gammon, in my opinion, stole the show, cooked to perfection. The roast came with creamy mash, crispy roast potatoes, a generous selection of perfectly cooked vegetables, a stuffing ball, and rich, savory gravy. We were even treated to an extra gravy boat and checked on mid-meal to ensure we had enough, a thoughtful touch. I was over the moon when they offered mushy peas as an extra side. This addition made the meal even more special. After two drinks and with very full bellies, we left utterly satisfied. The portions were generous, the quality outstanding, and the price felt like excellent value for such a high-caliber experience. The Angel delivered a culinary delight and a memorable afternoon. Top marks, we can’t wait to share this information and all the very best for your futures.

Lovely warm welcome, great service & good food. Visited with a friend I ordered the full breakfast which was delicious (my egg was perfect 👌 ) my friend ordered pancakes with bacon & maple syrup which were also well cooked and delicious. Tea was nice & hot & plenty in teapot for two people, love the vintage style tea cups and saucers, we will definitely come back again.
