Visited here with a family of 6 for a Saturday lunch. The staff were all very polite and professional. Good selection of drinks, served in clean glasses. Food was delicious and perfect for a light lunch. I had the soup and a sandwich option and the rest of the family went for the sandwich, chips and salad garnish option. All lovely. You could tell the meats were freshly carved, and that the coleslaw was homemade, as were the chunky chips! A really nice lunch trip, in a beautiful setting; just what we were looking for. Thank you to the staff of the pub and the kitchen.

This place is disgusting, we’d give it ZERO if possible. Dirty rooms that haven’t been cleaned properly in forever. The room was full of dust & smelled musty. To top it off the window wouldn’t shut & we were freezing. We were so cold that we had to ask a member of staff to put the heating on for us but he didn’t know how to do it. Apparently none of the staff there did: we spend the remainder of the night shivering in bed trying to get warm. We complained to the Manager the next day & said we were not staying the second night we had booked. We were given our money back for that but no compensation for the first night which is disgusting, considering we didn’t get a wink of sleep as we were absolutely frozen. Why would you put guests in a room that’s dirty & the window doesn’t close fully? Absolutely shocking. We will be contacting Best Western as we're not happy about being charged for a room where we couldn’t even sleep in because it was so cold.

We decided to go here for afternoon tea after having a spa day in the connected spa - should have got lunch in there like most people do! The place was run down and a bit dirty, and our food had obviously been prepared much earlier and put in the fridge until we arrived from the staleness of the bread on the tops of the sandwiches. Noticed a large mould spot on one of the macaroons, which was also on another of them, and there were a few stray hairs/fluff on food too. Food was absolutely NOT worth all that, so definitely wouldn’t recommend!! Steer clear haha, hopefully they get the place sorted

Me & my partner arrived for Sunday lunch, being aware of this hotel's prior good reputation. At £11.00 for a regular carvery, we felt the quality did not match the pleasant surroundings & that an average pub lunch would represent better value. The range of vegetables was good & they were well cooked, but the stuffing was hard & dry. The roast pork was too thickly carved & tough. The Yorkshire pudding however, was cooked just right & appeared to have been freshly prepared. We were also surprised that the only choice was the carvery. Don't bother going here, it doesn't live up to its image & prior reputation, just find an average pub that does serves food!

My friend and I visited the Bell Hotel in Driffield today (10th November) for Sunday lunch. We love this place, especially around Christmas time as it is quirky and old fashioned in the best possible way. I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive as I read a few negative comments for the carvery on this site, but as we’ve visited several times over the years and always enjoyed lovely food we went anyway. I needn’t have worried. The food was excellent as always. Beautiful meats with a huge selection of fresh vegetables and friendly efficient service. BTW, the pigs in blankets here are gorgeous! Roast potatoes are to die for. With 3 sizes of carvery to choose from, what more could you ask for? I wholeheartedly recommend the Bell Hotel food, and we’ll be back again soon!

went to the bell hotel for a carvery the meal was the worst that I have ever had the worst point was the gravy which had an awful taste as if it had vinegar in it and of course that tainted all of the food on the plate but the it wasn't the only thing the meat was so tuff we couldn't cut it and bits that we managed to get off it off were too tuff to chew the roast potatoes were also too tuff to cut the outsides were like leather as if they had been reheated the whole meal was a disaster. There was four of us and we all thought the same as demonstrated by us all leaving more than half of the meal. There was a couple walked past us as they were leaving and they commented on the same lines as us most disappointing and a waste of money.I must say they also do a set menu and I cant comment on that food but I would say don't have the carvery. It is a shame as the staff were very nice and friendly but we wont be going again.

I have used this restaurant for many years, and have noticed standards have slipped recently. Today they were dreadful, no one on reception, and had to seek someone to take a luncheon order, and again had to seek someone to take a drinks order. Food was dreadful, only ordered baked potato with coleslaw, potato over cooked and very small, coleslaw inedible, very hard and dry, side salad consisted of a few leaves, and that was it, charge£5.50, not worth half that amount, friend had a tart for pudding which seemed far from fresh and was smothered in bright yellow custard, which looked as though it had come out of a packet, that was also £5.50 - very overpriced, for a small helping of tart and custard. I did complain, when I could find a member of staff to complain to , but no action was taken other than "I will pass your comments on" I have been a customer here for well over 20 years. They have now lost a loyal customer.

Needless to say we packed our case paid and left! For a hotel that's been up for sale at a reduced price for a long time I would have thought the owners would appreciate our or anyone's business. We have stayed in a number of hotels in our years and I have to say ive never been asked to pay my bill in that manner.Because of that we will not be returning to The Bell and should they keep up this attitude I dare say others will not return .It could be fair to say there could be no business to sell .

This was a Christmas dinner for a large club and the tables looked great, but a couple were down in a separate area, which cut one group off a bit from the rest. The menu was lovely and offered duck which you don't usually find on a Christmas menu. The people who had beef and turkey confirmed the meat was beautiful. The beef had been slow cooked and fell apart. I had the duck and, for me, it was a little overdone and a bit dry. The most disappointing bit though was the veg as it was cold, the sprouts and carrots were cold but the cauliflower cheese was hot?! Also personally I hate cheese sauce and as it was in the same dish as the other veg some got on the carrots. Maybe serve it separate as not everyone likes it? The potatoes were a mix of new potatoes and supposedly roast potatoes. The roast potatoes looked anaemic as they were white and not at all crispy or golden and a bit underdone, the potatoes were also cold. I was pleased when I found out we were having dinner in my home town, so I was really disappointed when it didn't live up to expectations. Hot dishes to put the veggies in might be a start. I realise we were a large group, but I'm sure they are used to that or why accept the booking.

Old photographs on the walls showing the history of this market town. Cosy. We stayed here for one night after a party. Old-fashioned charm. Hotel full of old furniture and antique curios. The 'superior' room in which we stayed was large with separate sitting room and en suite bathroom big enough to hold a party in! The downside was the impossibility of having a shower without flooding the bathroom due to minute shower screen and curtain. ...Our room would have been impossible to get to with limited mobility as no lift to upper floors. Some of the other rooms had the bedroom 'upstairs' and reached by a spiral staircase so if you have any disability you need to make that clear when booking - none of our group that stayed were asked about this or told of accessibility issues.Quiet location in market town.Good english breakfast

The menu and quality of food was good but the interior and atmosphere let it down.It was full of old men who had clearly been drinking all afternoon and it made for an uncomfortable place for a lone female diner.

Today we had lunch at the Bell in Driffield and the meal was excellent. We had steak and ale pie and it was one of the best we have tasted. The meal was served simply ( none of that "cheffy" nonsense with lots of silly little containers to decant!)The surroundings were comfortable, the service good and the price fair. They also had a good selection of real ales.

We arranged for afternoon tea through Groupon which purported to be half price. The afternoon tea presented was poor and the service of equal quality. On leaving we noticed a leaflet advertising afternoon tea at a lower price than that paid to Groupon. Left feeling somewhat "ripped off"

Gives me the creeps this place. Its like something from the League of Gentlemen, a local hotel for local people. Food is average and the surroundings are akin to a hammer movie set. Very strange atmosphere and distinctly pokey.I can't really recommend anything about it.

First time tried eating here.Staff very attentive and checked if everything ok throughout the meal.I had soup followed by roast beef with seasonal vegetables .All meal really enjoyed followed by apple and plum crumble and custard. Meal followed with coffee and mint to finish off. Restaurant is dated and need of updating but still a pleasant place to dine out. Will definitely be going back.

We had a very enjoyable relaxing meal in the bar, been here many times over the years and it has always been good. The staffs are very friendly and helpful.I had the haddock done in cider batter and my wife had the beef in ale pie. Lovely crispy batter the best chips I have had for a long time, nice and chunky. Nice mushy peas too. The pie was very nice too. Sweets a little unadventurous, ended up with the ice cream, but it was nice. To sum it up Very good service, good beer good food and nice old world hotel love the place, will be going again soon.

Read about this place in the AA Pub Guide so decided to check it out following a walk in the Yorkshire Wolds. Although it was very quiet inside the food was fantastic value. Knowing that there is a restaurant section or a pub section where you could eat I knew that the food would be cooked in the same kitchen so knew that it would be of a high standard. Opted for the pub section to eat in and could not ask for more when I chose an extremely nice house salad with chicken, mini bruschetta, new potatoes and a citrus dressing. Definitely of a restaurant standard and it cost less than £7. What a bargain. To top it all the pub has on real ales so chose a very nice one from the Wold Top Brewery. Good service but due to it being quiet it felt a bit like a ghost town.

Okay, we weren't booked. So, on Friday night, I guess we were lucky really that they could accommodate a party of ten, even if they only had space in the bar because the restaurant was already full. Menu very, very limited, and very expensive for average tuck. £15 for a 10oz steak, or £20 if you fancied sirloin. But what amazed me was their complete inability to work out what it was precisely they were serving us. My fish and chips came minus chips. No, really. The three gammon and chips were similarly lacking in spud, but they did bring out a bowl of vegetables. Odd because none of our choices included broccoli boiled tates or cauli, and nobody remembered ordering it either. Chips came later, after I'd finished eating my fish because I didn't want it cold, and weren't chips anyway - they were wedges. Nice wedges, but wedges nevertheless. Once we'd distributed this large bowl of wedges amongst ourselves and eaten them (with or without the fish/gammon which they should have accompanied), another bowl of wedges arrived. We didn't bother with dessert...

As a frequent visitor to Driffield we have at one time or another visited many local restaurants. So where to eat this Sunday lunchtime. We didn’t book and the restaurant was fully booked. We were offered the second sitting for 1.30 and decided to wait.Good move.We had a great meal in ambient surroundings looked after by great staff. For Sunday lunch this was close to perfection.Next time I’ll book

I often go here for a meal with friends or family, it's an old inn which has character. It's not a trendy place to go, but if you want a reasonably priced meal its always has a nice informal and cosy atmosphere. I have tried the salmon with dill sauce, it was yummy and another time i had the steak pie, both were very good. The pie was home cooked with lovely thick crust and plenty of meat. The puds were ok as well, with old fashioned choices like jam sponge and custard. I had blackcurrant cheesecake. If you go on a Thursday morning the bell does a special offer of tea/coffee with a scone and the place gets really busy.

My wife and I have frequented this restaurant for special occasions quite a few times. We enjoy the choice of food, mostly traditional English food, specially prepared, but with a few more exotic dishes. The selection of starters is wide, catering for different tastes, and the food is always fresh and well presented. The main courses are also varied, and change to some extent, with the seasons. The meat and fish are mostly local and the vegetable selection is fresh. The accompanying sauces are all delicious. The sweets are wonderful and, again, made with fresh ingredients. Coffee is good and can be accompanied by one of the huge range of malt whiskies kept in stock. The wine list is good and reasonably priced, along with the food. We've always found the service friendly, unfussy and efficient. Usually, a good mix of music plays in the background, at a level to disguise the conversations of other diners but not at all intrusive. You don't have to book here, usually. Though if considering a large party (more than 4), I'd advise you do check for availability. We've eaten here as the only guests and also when the place was fully occupied and everything in between. If you're looking for good food, served well in a traditional English setting, and priced reasonably, you will find exactly that here. I recommend it.

Sarah was very attentive. The rest of the staff need to be trained by her. On booking to see if we could have a table the man wasn't, quite in the room

Called in tonight as seen family pub and dogs welcome on their sign.....just our street. Well. Absolutely gobsmacked with the prices, cheep and cheerful. Brie, as discussed as in the cheese, absolute delight, what a barmaid! Signposted me to everything I was drinking and offers, could jot have asked more of her, saleswoman in the making! We will be back, with child and dog 😊 cannot recommend any higher

We waited an hour for eggs and toast. Owner only cared about Door Dash orders going out the door. Given that Courtenay has so many great casual dining places, give this one a pass. Give your business to restaurants that care about providing good service to their customers.

Went today for lunch , I decided i was having soup , they said it was the last portion so that was fine , I asked for no bread which , when it came it was the smallest half bowl of soup for £6.25 , I didn’t want anything knocking off for not having the bread but did expect a full dish, looking at the menu I could of had a small breakfast, or sandwich for about the same price , it’s soup where do they get over £6 for it!!
