Tesco Extra in North Hertfordshire

Self service was told to use one of the 3 machines at the end went down and they was closed. The lady then asked what I was doing I said they are closed .she said they wasn't walked back down with me and then told me it's tuff I can't do anything about that. Very rude service.

Some employes ruin the experience. It’s a big Tesco with everything in but quite busy at times.

Disgusting behaviour too customers u get ID for something that ain’t relevant very funny that went too ASDA in Stevenage and they don’t care just as long as u look old enough is all that matters !!! Stay Away from Tesco in my opinion

Just got refused buying alcohol when I’m clearly of age to buy it. Came into the store with my sister who isn’t at all old enough to drink (and doesn’t drink) to be told I wasn’t allowed to buy the alcohol as it was ‘clearly for her’ and I was going to ‘give it to her in the car park’. I understand the policy, but to be making accusations like that is unfair and completely wrong. I came back into the store on my own a little while later and was still refused alcohol. Would love to give 0 stars for the inconvenience and bold assumptions made against me.

Very rude staff and when I asked to complain, the manager on duty wasn't really interested. Typical of the big stores these days staff think they can do what they want.

Slightly unusually this review concerns the phone/4G reception. I have used this store for (literally) decades, right back to when there was no competition from M&S and Aldi. Phone reception has always been patchy - you had to move to near the checkouts to be able to hold a phone call. But it is getting worse. In this modern age it occurs to me that this must be deliberate; walk outside and the reception is perfect. I am not sure, but I thought it was illegal to interfere with phone reception - in-case an emergency services call is needed. To head off the likely management reply: I don't want the local public Wi-Fi - I have no idea if it's being spoofed. I don't get this problem in Aldi. Here's an idea: fix your radios (or switch off the 4G suppressors) and then you can have a big sign: "Aldi phone signal match".

Staff are amazing especially Dan and security. Understanding of customers needs, friendly and polite and willing yo help

First time useing the toilet. Not very clean, water all over floors and the smell was atrocious.

Racism at Tesco. When attending the pharmacy my wife was waiting in line for service . The lady in front of my wife had a very similar issue with her eye as my wife and simply stated that she needed something to treat her left eye. The assistant went away and returned with a remedy. My wife approached the counter and asked for the same thing since her left eye also had an infection. The assistant then started to ask numerous questions after which she consulted the same assistant as served the first lady and both of them decided to consult the pharmacist. The pharma cist did not look at my wife but the result was that my wife was not offered any medicine for her problem. I was appauled to have witnessed this event , that two ladies with the same issue at the same time could be treated in entirely different manners. The only difference between the two customers was that the first lady was around 30 and English and my wife is over 60 and Ukrainian. I simply hadnt believed that people could treat my wife with such contempt , as she had told me on previous occasions but today I witnessed it first hand. After considerable discussion my wife managed to obtain the medicine she needed but not without becoming un-necessarily stressed. My wifes standard of English is very good and she has no difficulty in communication, however she does have a quite obvious accent. Given that these were such obvious contemporaneous instances of customers being treated differently due to one person being English and another person not being English , this occurance needs to be reported so that it occurs less frequently.

Nice store, parking needs improvement

Not a great store. 8 am kiosk not open. Costa not open. Costa machine only just working. No stirrers. No brown sugar. Toilets dirty. Blue haired grunt giving me attitude to a simple question as to which set of tills was open. …… Tesco failure.

My recent visit to Tesco was nothing short of a nightmare. The store's condition and the behavior of the staff left me utterly disappointed and questioning the level of management in place. As soon as I entered the store, I couldn't help but notice the lackadaisical attitude of the staff. They were either huddled together in groups, chatting away, or engrossed in their phones on social media. It was evident that they had little concern for customer service, displaying a total lack of care and professionalism. This level of indifference can only be attributed to poor management, as it sets the tone for the overall store environment. Moreover, the fridges in the store were downright disgusting. They looked like they hadn't been cleaned in ages, with grime and stains on the shelves. This lack of cleanliness raises significant concerns about the store's commitment to basic hygiene and food safety. To make matters worse, I couldn't ignore the state of the food on the shelves. Numerous items were either already past their sell-by date or dangerously close to it. It was disheartening to see that the store was willing to prioritize sales over the well-being of its customers. This negligence not only affects the quality of products but also poses potential health risks. Tesco has long been a trusted name in the retail industry, but my recent experience has shattered that perception. It is evident that there are severe management issues that need immediate attention. A store that fails to provide a clean and well-organized shopping environment, along with unprofessional and inattentive staff, is nothing short of a disappointment. I urge Tesco's management to take these criticisms seriously and make drastic improvements in their store's cleanliness, staff training, and overall management. As a customer, I expect a much higher standard from a reputed supermarket chain like Tesco.

A great variety of food. Clubcard plus gives 10% discount. Easy to park your car. Easy to get a trolley and you do not need a pound coin to get the trolley.

Choice of some items has decreased. ie, Large Blocks ( around 1kg) reasonable priced Only Mild Cheese Yogurt Choice poor , then not great amount of variety of flavours.

A large tesco store, With quite a large carpark, And friendly staff, we have found the store shelfs always quite full

Well laid out, shelves full, staff helpful. However, too many parents had children standing in trolleys, where food is then put, why? The Charity collection boxes where the blue plastic coins go is pointless. Children take handful of the coins and put them in where their parents tell them to, makes the collection boxes not balanced. When mentioned to checkout staff, comment was "the children like to put in the slots, we can't stop them taking the coins".

Self service staff were just rude to me. Extremely un helpful standing around chatting with multiple tills waiting for service due to the shambles of a system. Simply won't be returning again

Staff always helpful in getting me a mobility scooter despite going early b4 customer service desk was open ! Let's of hoice ,prices gone up.lots but guess that's everywhere, disappointed they have stopped the hearty frozen food range as my son has an eating disorder and its all he would eat!

I’ve shopped here for years and now find that the variety of products is depleting weekly. I want to buy Trex for baking but it hasn’t been there for some time and the online shopping says it’s out of stock, other shops have it! I wanted some Beeswax polish this week, I always buy it in Tesco but that’s now missing off the shelves, in fact the only polish choice was Pledge for wood and Pledge multi surface, not even an own brand. I asked a staff member and he kindly looked it up and said that was the only brand now stocked……what’s happening? The price hikes are bad enough along with the reduction in how we can multiply our vouchers, I’m going to have to go elsewhere for Trex and polish and obviously while in a different supermarket I will do my other shopping there. Any tips for an alternative to Trex for pastry making?

Always shop here at the moment they are rearranging products so everything is not where it use to be but I'm sure it will be OK when finished

Please Tesco, put the right item under the correct price! 2 weeks ago I contacted Tesco, to complain about a product which should have been £4.20, but were under a £2.50 price tag, (for a different brand). Luckily I noticed, and I ended up re- arranging the shelf so they were back where they should have been, in case some one else fell for it ! What about people with limited sight? I can see the dark numbers but not the lettering under it unless I get right down low. How many would go back to the shop to complain once they got home? Tesco make a killing like that ! This week I went in, and it was the Mayo ! Don't assume everyone KNOWS the right prices. Put them under the correct amount !

6 and 7th January evening it seems this Tesco no longer sells TV papers or even any newspapers.what's going on?they seem to want me to shop elsewhere.

A good superstore where most of the staff are polite and helpful.

Just been to this store and have to say well done to them. The car park had been cleared of snow. Where cars parked there was some ice but the lanes were free if it so able to walk without being afraid of slipping.

The diasble toliet seat was loose not safe to sit on and no water comi out of tap I told staff behind counter didn't take no notice

Well Tescos! try prying the mobile phone out of Ellie's hands as she stand checking her social media instead of interacting with customers as they struggle with self service check out and put her on a till from 10-midnight. It will improve the customer experience no end.

DO NOT USE THESE FACILITIES my son used the petrol station. He has been charged the £74 he put in his car and TESCO have applied to take a further £120. This is outrageous if not bordering criminal. Given people's financial considerations this Tesco POLICY is an abuse to its customers

A place where you could find great discount and food but perhaps the taste between Europe and Asia prepared differently, overall “It’s A Great Experience” and worth the pounds spent.

Good Tesco with lots of selection. EV charging points, click and collect plus a car wash and petroleum station.

Not my usual tesco store, but good all the same. Very busy carpark. Clothes section seems smack bang in the middle of the shop, very close to the refrigerated goods.

Local and able to buy anything I need. Open 6am till midnight except Sunday 10 to 4pm.

Shopping has obviously gone up in price, but always do my shopping here as it has everything I need. Mainly use click and collect.

A lovely member of staff gave me and my partner some flowers for our daughter, we forgot to ask his name but hope he sees this and knows he made our week! Good to be kind🙏🏽

With all the negativity and moaning and groaning in our country today I must give the Click and Collect service a first class rating. The staff are great. Helpful and friendly and I have been using the service for over a year and a half and never had one error. Really! In store shopping good too. Aldi? Well the prices may be cheaper on somethings but there is alot of price matching now, plus you don't feel like the poor relation in Tescos!

Big supermarket with big car park, petrol station and car wash. Bottle recycling too.

Staff are so rude here,on self service checkout I had to wait to have tags removed on clothing,,while the ladies had a conversation about there kids.and lent over me without a masking try to avoid this shop and go to Tesco baldock, much better

Great shop, just big enough but not overwhelming. Staff friendly, good choice of stock and prices competitive (Aldi price match offers now on given the local competition). Nice Costa with a view of the car park/local area, as well as free toilet facilities. Also an F&F department, a pharmacy as well as homeware/electronics section.

Has everything you need though some staff can be a little unhelpful , overall not a bad shopping experience

Always queues at the tills, since they removed around 5 / 6 and replaced with a nothing area you will always find yourself queuing back up the aisles at mildly (not even very) busy times. Please reinstate these tills to ease the issue, unfortunately though with no serious competition in Royston, it'll probably fall on deaf ears.......V poor!

Very poor customer service. Items literally thrown at me when going through the checkout. Stock availability in the frozen section is poor. Fresh produce isn't fresh at all, doesn't last. As a Tesco customer for so many years this is the last time. Switching to another supermarket. One would think that with so much competition out there a company of this size would up their game. Sadly this isn't the case.

The older lady at customer service, needs retraining in customer service. Other than that the store is ok

Tesco still better than Aldi. Better quality and fresher foods and not that much more expensive and sometimes cheaper I also like to point out that Tesco has an excellent safety policy by enforcing the wearing of masks at such infectious times Aldi and Lidl should take note and not putting profits before safety Carpark could be cleaner ,too much rubbish along hedges

Karen central. Someone forgot to tell the staff there is a pandemic going on, yet the cashier without a mask on can moan about previous customers being too close and got snarky about younger people not wearing masks because of asthma. Then the Karen cashier said she wasn't wearing one because she had asthma at which point I pulled out my steroid inhaler and said me too whilst wearing my mask. Suddenly she didn't have much to say about that one on the upside I managed to shut a Karen up so life is good.

The staff at royston are really friendly and helpful I can get most stuff I want occasionally out of stock but who doesn't run out of stuff

Had the misfortune of putting diesel in my petrol car... expensive mistake. Would like to thank the guys working at the filling station at the time(17:00 18/5/2020) for their help & humour.

Pleasant helpful staff. Easy parking, Reduced price petrol station. Well laid out store, wide aisles, plenty of choice. Staff & Manager deserve a special Thankyou during Lockdown. Well done Tesco Royston.

During this covid19 situation, shopping here has still been a good experience. The staff do well keeping social distancing measures in place. Great job Royston store.

Great hyper market,you can find anything you want

Have been very disappointed with Tesco's no cat biscuits, others to expensive like go cat, they have put prices up, thought they were celebrating there 100th year, petrol station closed at 10pm, still says its 24hrs cant even pay at pump, everything all padlocked up, what are you doing tescos

Great store with a customer-friendly layout, Vision Express, phone shop, toilets and a fairly huge Costa! The home section is useful and the F&F is very big but the electricals section isn't that great. Has all your essentials but could do with having a greater range (especially since they closed Tesco Direct).

Been to this Tesco’s all my life and these past few years with it have been a disgrace no staff even around at night if u buy electronic products too unlock customer service storage especially waiting for the manager just too get the keys from My advice is don’t even bother I more recommended Stevenage or baldock Tesco

They ve stopped collecting for the food bank : DISGRACEFUL. They LL have a temporary one at Xmas. Other supermarkets are available . I will shop less at Tesco

The toilets here are quite close to the main entrance and the smell is quite strong as soon as you get near. It's quite off putting.

Large store with a broad range of products. The quality of the non food products is never quite good enough, but the food itself is good if pricey. The loos are horrendous and there is a general lack of pride taken which is sad. The jewel in the crown is the car wash and I'd like to have reviewed that separately as it is good and the staff are very friendly.

Getting quite fed up with Tesco's treatment of staff and customers. Make the evening staff on clothing section redundant, then close the fitting rooms at 7pm so people who work can't actually try anything on. Who's bright idea was that? 🙄

Good store, but I would suggest to @tesco that they clean the toilets whilst there a minimal members of the public in store. You know, considering it’s 24hr during the week so how about before 7:30 in the morning when commuters are in ☺️

big store, only problem = I live in a village near Royston and Tesco delivery vans park up over the road from Steeple Morden war memorial, a layby between Steeple and Guilden Morden usually for a sleep and the entrance to Huffers Farm between Steeple Morden and Ashwell, once I went to the Doctors in Ashwell the Tesco van was there, came back parked beside the van, Driver fast asleep, walked my dogs down the farm track, came back and still asleep, emailed Royston and was told the driver had a puncture - a down right LIE as parked right next to and had a look at the driver, shows the quality of staff Royston has !!!

Always friendly staff and able to help. Loads of managers around the building just talking in busy periods but can be a work around. Fruit for the kids which is nice to see. Only downfall is the child parking, people park there without having a kid because it’s easier and closer and there is signs on the car park saying there will be a fine and have to tell the customer service desk, but all I get in return is “we can’t do anything”

Big Tesco with everything you need. Shame the electricals desk has gone as they were really good but still a good selection of electrical goods. Special mention to the pharmacy staff who are really lovely.

All I can say is please bring back Jonathan Head. That man knew how to ran a shop, since he has left the place has gone down hill. If you won’t bring him back do us all a favour and sell the place to Sainsbury’s

Bought onions from Tesco got the home same night to use them they were mouldy went back they exchanged them same thing I thought there where checks in place for this type of thing

From the moment I entered this store I noticed the great atmosphere within, smiling faces, helpful very knowledgeable staff. Excellent fresh in store bakery with a full selection of bread, rolls, cakes and fruit filled pies. All Tesco stores have a wide selection of my favourite food at an unbeatable price, but this store also has the bonus of also having my favourite foods in stock. Highly recommended.

Its a large store where you can buy pretty much anything, but the range is random in the extreme. It strikes me they cease to stock the popular lines in favour of higher priced variants, and limit the availability of the basic range. Evidenced by empty shelves. For example on my last visit, only xl large expensive eggs were available. I asked for normal eggs, and an assistant fetched me a carton. So they were in store but not on sale.

Good big store, lots of choices but an awkward layout that means you need to (in most cases) walk the entire store. I know they probably think it's terribly clever to design it this way but it can be quite annoying at times.

Tesco Extra Royston has a chronic fly tipping rubbish problem which the firm and suppliers need to urgently address and resolve. Either manage the recycling area properly or close it.

A standard large Tesco. Has good fresh fruit and veg in stock. There is also a home and electronic section. By the entrance there is a currency exchange. Upstairs there is a Costa. There is usually ample parking, even if it is an awkward layout. By the entrance and exit the speed bumps are excessive in size and should be tackled with care.
