Tesco Cafe in Rhondda Cynon Taf

It’s always a shame that the service here is so lacking! After a number of refurbs and a good menu you would think that staff training would be part of it. While 4 out of 5 self service terminals were turned off and the resident waitress (L) running up to people screaming and shouting at every person coming up to order. “It’s an hr wait do you know that!!!” It’s a shame they don’t have someone to meet and greet it would save her voice and legs trying to dissuade people from dinning. It’s a common thread here. At least with the self service terminal they can’t put trolleys in front of the entrance like they used to to stop people entering. The funniest part of it all is that’s it barely at 50% capacity. Food came within 20mins. Says it all really.

I went there today and the Electronic self ordering units were all in use and there were 9 people including myself waiting to access them. No one came up to help as it was obvious that a few people had no idea how to use them. I left and went to a local cafe where I was served within minutes. Tesco cafes were nice places to go before shopping but I shall shop in Aldi from now on but unfortunately no cafe

I initially reviewed this much higher but with the recent changes to the cafe, I am disappointed at the lack of options. The atmosphere has lost its warmth in place a cold modern touch. However, the inclusion of charging stations is a big upgrade. The biggest disappointment is ordering being strictly cashless and you can now only order via a kiosk with no choice of customisation. You can no longer order something as simple as a plate of bacon and chips, it is now a requirement to order a specific meal. Which is a huge waste of food as I won’t eat what I don’t want. This is a serious downgrade across all Tesco’s cafes and I doubt I will be in a hurry to return until they fix it. Update: No improvement, still cashless and now I can’t even order chicken strips and chips. There is no customisation options for your order - e.g. no peas with my scampi and chips can’t be customised on the order so I have to go to the collection point and relay this. Not ideal considering the staff are now only in the kitchen making food as they no longer serve. Food quality has gone down, I ordered a seasoned fried that arrived not seasoned properly and were lacking in taste. When I went to complain I was told that was how they did it and there was nothing they could. A blatant lie since I have the seasoned fries before and they never once looked like that (attached an image). The standards and service has dropped pathetically. Unless they allow more customisation or till service, stay well away from this soulless husk of a cafe.

I ordered coffee and a tea cake. There were people that came in after me and was served their food first. So had to ask for mine. Then it came cold and no colour that should come with it being toasted. Asked if I could have it toasted a bit more please. Then I was told with attitude that it could be burnt. It wasn’t! Very poor.

Excellent value for money, lovely staff, amazing breakfast and great atmosphere to boot. Add in the free WiFi and quick service it's a no brainer. Highly recommend the New Big Breakfast with a cup of earl grey, gawjus!

New system is horrible! So many old people confused , it genuinely took us 25 mins to work the computer out for a family of 5 , no staff there it’s all robotic , bring back people and cash!!!!!!!

I have visited this cafe every week for years and now with the new makeover and going cashless I feel is ageist and discriminates against people that have special needs and only deal with cash. I feel this will lose customers in my opinion.

New system is ageist, impersonal. Used to enjoy the cafe. Will not use again.

Had a cheese and ham toastie paid extra £1.50 for salad and all I got was 2tiny tomatoes and pieces of thin cucumber shocking .

Ordered poached egg on toast and was told that there was a 20 min wait. Numerous people arrived after me and were served. After 45 mins I asked where my lunch was and was told that poached eggs take a long time to cook. Immediately my lunch arrived they had obviously forgotten about me. Not worth waiting for.

I had a meal yesterday. I have ordered The breakfast the taste wasn’t the best and in the end of the day I had really bad problems with stomach.

Breakfast was very poor, burnt bacon, totally cremated, shocking.

Queued into the car park… 25 minute wait for food ( I didn’t) queued out…. What a joke!!

I used to be a regular customer with my daughter but won't be returning after our last visit. Extremely over priced for the portion size. I'll be going else where in future.

Every single time we go to this coffee shop the staff go to great pains to shout ‘30 minute wait on food’. Wouldn’t mind but you get told by at least 3 different people on repeat. Even when there is hardly nobody in there! Advice: stick a sign up and stop going on and on about it! It makes you feel very unwelcome and the staff come across as very reluctant to do their job.

Me and my partner always go to the cafe when we go shopping and have never had a bad visit. Staff, food and drinks are always top notch and I especially enjoy the loaded fries.

Nice atmosphere but why can’t sandwiches be sold anymore. I only wanted a savoury snack but only sweet items on sale. Please Tesco bring the sarnies back.

Never have I seen such foul mouthed staff and disgusting service in my life. The woman on the checkout was so rude. To her the customers did not matter, she was not polite, she was abrupt, rude and made myself so uncomfortable it sent my anxiety levels sky high and I am not a anxious person. The staff need a lesson on customer service.

Eggs over cooked, beans overcooked to the point I had hard lump of beans burnt together, bacon burnt, won't come back for breakfast again

The scampi and chips I had were perfect and I must admit which were also quite different from the ones I used to have in Newport where I worked. I am sure the café cooks the frozen items which Tesco sell. But the scampi and Chips I had were much nicer here and I can only put it down to the way they were fried. Compliments to the chef the day of my visit. The staff were good and friendly. Would dine here again if the opportunity arises.

We've been here a few times now since having the little one (as a couple, with friends etc). I've stopped off here a few times after swimming lessons with other mums and their little ones. There is quite a good selection of food to be had, and the prices are typical. Have always had great service though and the accessibility (lifts) and changing facilities are great. Staff are more than happy to assist you with the little ones too. Parking for parent and child is good and plentiful (down to the right hand side of the store as you look at it, to the side at the back of the car park nearest the store. I've never had to wait for a space or had to park elsewhere due to lack of space which is heck of a lot more than you can say for the rest of the retail park! We have food here each time we visit, its not out of this world but its tidy quality cafe food each time we've been (though we usually have a toasty or a burger with chips). Coffee is nice too, and the cakes are good, very moist and flavourful muffins.

Popped in for a cheap way to pass an hour whilst car was being cleaned. Cheapest hot drink I chose £1.50 pot of tea. Only enough milk in the tiniest jug for one cup. Tiny slice of carrot cake £2.95 Scone £1.95 Caramel bar 90 p which came out of a pack of 5 for about £1!! Marshmallow 95 p- again out of a multi pack Met my friend with her 2 kids she paid £8.95 for 2 plates of cold sausage and chips, a tiny bottle of water and a cappuccino. This was my first and will be my last visit with them selling individual items which they would’ve had out of a multi pack. Young girl before me waiting to pay said she was on her break and the service was so slow she missed her break... The slowest service and the most rip off prices I’ve seen. Even worse than motorway cafes!

came in for lunch with my husband and child. Told my jacket potato would be half an hour wait even though it was barely busy! My husband has certain dietry needs due to health, they couldn't give him any of the things he asked for so he didn't eat. We waited for over 20 mins just for a plate of chicken nuggets which were cold.

Extremely good value service and food.

Good selection of food and drink for a good prices. They have really nice full breakfast.

Not the value for money it once was, the mash was not good tasted like it had been sat for a while the pie crust was so hard you could have shod a horse with it.

This is a lovely indoor cafe. There is plenty of indoor seating and high chairs. There is also a very good choice of food and coffees. The prices are very reasonable and the service is very good. Well worth a visit if you want a coffee or something to eat either before in between or after completing your shopping.

Call into Tescos every Friday and decided for a change to try the all day breakfast. My wife had small breakfast and I had larger breakfast. I have to say that both breakfasts where inedible.....everything was over cooked and did not look at all appetising... Both my wife and myself took few mouthfuls and decided to leave. Have eaten here before a long time ago and felt it was good value for money. Something has changed...Tables left full of dishes ..staff not looking at all interested... cant believe its same cafe. Sort it out Tescos as £15 for two breakfasts and two coffees is not cheap....

Called in cafe for breakfast. Ordered poached eggs on toast. Arrived promptly but the eggs were so over cooked they were like hard boiled eggs. Very disappointed. Won’t be coming back here for food.

Clean, pleasant counter staff. I was travelling from Cardiff to CF42, Tynewydd RCT along the motor way at late morning. I run through my options and possibilities and decided that this would be the quickest option. easy car parking , direct in and out and easy access to toilets. It would be a tad out of the way for a Motorway stop but was really good for a quick splash and dash. Would be a bit more difficult during rush hour.

It's new and fresh, a good place for a quick cuppa or coffee and a snack. Well worth a try.
