Very disappointed, arrived for lunch bringing my brother and wife as they are on holiday, had to wait 10 minutes to be seated although there was an empty table where we were standing, we were given menu's then totally ignored for the next quarter of an hour, a young waitress saw us and I asked could we place an order (we were going to have a 3 course lunch) she said yes and then went over and chatted with another waiter, after a further 5 minutes we decided to leave and go into kelso, we went to a place in kelso and were treated correctly and served immediately.

We had a fantastic lunch at the café in Floors Castle, enjoying the sunshine while seated under a canopy overlooking the beautiful gardens and excellent greenhouses. Our meal began with a delicious soup, followed by a goat’s cheese tart paired with an excellent small bottle of white wine. To finish, we indulged in a chocolate brownie and coffee, both of which were delightful. The entire experience was superb, and we highly recommend this café to anyone visiting Floors Castle.

Will not be repeating this experience. Ordered coffee and scones and the scones were dry and crumbled when we attempted to cut them. They were either old or had been frozen. Surely it isn’t too difficult to provide fresh scones.

Very poor food. Dry bun with a dry crumbling lamb burger, desperate for a bit of salad or some sort of sauce. I did complain and was told they’ll let the chef know. Still charged all. I should have objected!

Had a very disappointing experience today, waited over 30 mins for our order to be taken was just being totally ignored by the waiting staff, had to go inside and request someone to come and take our order, still being ignored 10 mins later, so we eventually walked out without ordering, when approached by a member of staff on our departure we explained the reason we were leaving, her reaction was very rude. We found a delightful cafe with superb customer service, that appreciated our custom in Kelso and eventually had a lovely lunch.

Lunch today which wasn't satisfactory. Overpriced , left still hungry . For what we ordered it was more of a starter for two of us, my friend and I got a bruschetta which was quite tasty but bruschetta was too hard to cut through with a knife & when we asked for a sharper knife, they only had one serrated small knife that wasn't much better. The tagliatelle was NOT a main meal by any means. We complained and all that the supervisor/manager said was "I'll let the chef know!" No apology , and she looked put out that we dared to critise. We felt rushed to get out too as we were told we had to vacate the table so we only had 1.5 hrs even though our reserved table was occupied when we originally arrived but again no apology. No discount on paying , nothing said to us. Do not recommend!

Abysmal, very disappointing Booked a table for 1245 and didn’t get an order taken by any of the 5 waiting staff till we asked after 30 mins. Then in total had waited 50 mins before food arrived (after asking the staff again how long would we have to wait). Decaf coffee was like mud and food was mediocre when it arrived. None of this would have mattered, but we had two young children in the group and that is a huge time to wait. A very disappointing visit for us, which has not been our experience before

Half-hearted service and food quite poor. We waited 15+ minutes to be served and I had to approach front-of-house twice to indicate that we were ready to order. On my first attempt I was simply ignored. Service was very half-hearted...even when i went to the counter to pay the person taking my payment asked if all had been ok but started chatting to a colleague before I could answer. Food was mediocre - the first time I've witnessed fishcakes with a runny interior and cold kedgeree which was heated up. The most disappointing thing is that we've previously had much better experiences here. Time for us to look at other options in Kelso I think...

Very consistent this place, always friendly staff, efficient service, tasty food using high quality ingredients. The pastry chef must have been baking away for years as the eclair was top notch and same as previous eclairs. A few new additions to the menu as well as classics they have had for years. Reasonably priced for todays climate.

After having spent almost an hour walking around the Floors Castle gardens on a hot sunny day we visited the Terrace Cafe for refreshments. My wife and I chose a different slice of homebaked cake each along with a mug of coffee. The cake was delicious and the good quality coffee was served in decent sized mugs. This set us up nicely for the long drive home after our short trip to Kelso.

I love dogs but I am allergic to them and I'm finding it increasingly impossible to go out anywhere to eat because everywhere is dog friendly. However this particular café does not allow dogs inside. What a relief to be able to eat without getting allergic. When over 30% of us are allergic to cats or dogs this is a refreshing change. The staff are absolutely lovely and the food is really delicious. All in all a lovely experience

Came here for the first time on 26th October for a little dinner date with my wife, we had been meaning to visit here for some time now, since moving into the area back in march. As we walked in we was greeted by the lovely sight of the creams and cakes in the carbonate opposite the entrance, and the lovely warm welcoming smiles of the staff. Service was brilliant and very efficient, we was served with our drinks, we highly recommended the pumpkin spice laté, and then the food order was taken. The food was amazing we both had the Floors Castle Burger, the burger was brilliantly done, the meat was light and juicy and of a very high standard, the flavours from the relish and the sliced pickle were lovely and bold but didn’t overpower the flavour of the burger, they really complemented everything, the chips were lovely, crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, it was very well presented on a slate board. We also had to get one of the delicious looking deserts, I had the Eclair and the wife had a Brownie. The Eclair was Devine the cream was just the right amount and the pastry was just right. The brownie was lovely too not moist not too dry and was a nice gooey brownie, it was just right. The food was amazing for the price, you are paying for the quality not the quantity here and even though the portions were smaller than what I generally eat, I left feeling full and very satisfied. Thank you for a brilliant meal and a lovely experience.

We wanted a light lunch and were truly surprised to find a most refreshing selection of dishes on the menu (not a toastie in sight)! My husband and I opted for the starter sized Salmon Fish Cake - also available as a main course. This was served with a dill sauce and a lovely crisp salad. We were delighted when the crustsy crumbed fish cake oozed its soft, creamy filling....so full of flavour. Worth a visit even if you aren't touring the gardens or castle.

I had one of the absolutely worst lunches I have ever had here yesterday. Service and food was dreadful. I accept that it was a Bank Holiday, but they would have known that in advance and should have prepared better. I had booked for myself and visiting family two weeks ago; when we arrived, there were six staff milling around at the counter, not doing much at all, while we were ignored and a queue was building up behind us. Eventually we were shown to our table and I asked the waitress specifically what was available as gluten-free options as I am coeliac and can't risk even a trace of gluten. I was told 'our gluten free options are marked on the menu'All that was marked on the menu was kedgeree and a ham salad (so if you're coeliac and vegetarian, forget it). When the waitress came back to take our order, I double-checked that those were the only two options available (because really, how hard can it be to get some gluten free bread/baps in and offer gluten-free sandwiches or burgers?) But no,'our gluten-free options are marked on the menu' was the response again. As a coeliac, I am sick to the back teeth of having to have a salad, so I ordered the kedgeree. We had to wait just over half an hour for our order and when we asked for tap water, we were pressed repeatedly to order bottled water. When the kedgeree arrived, it was DREADFUL, nothing short of a disaster. Whatever it was, it wasn't kedgeree. It was a small bowl of extremely oily rice, I picked out four bones from the smoked haddock and no seasoning whatsoever. No curry spices at all, no butter or cream stirred through.Just greasy rice, a boiled egg and haddock with bones in. If this had been a small cafe in a less popular location, I could maybe have understood. But not at establishment like this. Kedgeree is not hard to get right, even for only mildly competent home cooks. I couldn't really complain while we were eating as there was no sign of any staff; no one came to check if we were happy with our food.Of course, I was still hungry afterwards, so although none of the desserts or cakes were marked as gluten-free, I double=checked with the waitress who said they had a lemon=drizzle cake which was gluten-free, so I ordered some. The icing was actually very good, but the cake was another disaster; it was like crumbs of cardboard. Even my dog turned his nose up it and he will eat ANYTHING. If the chef/kitchen staff aren't capable of baking a decent gluten-free cake, there are plenty of pre-mixed cake ingredients you can buy now, even from the local Sainsbury's. Perhaps this particular chef should spend a bit more time shopping for convenience mixes and less time cooking. Because their cooking is dire. And as I said before, there was nothing at all available for vegetarians who have to be gluten-free.This experience reminds me of why I very rarely eat out now and I shall not be returning, ever. Which is a shame and I'm local, it would otherwise be a lovely place to bring visitors.

Totally agree with the two recent reviews. COVID safety is no excuse for providing such a soulless experience. Spiced lamb sausage roll was not available hot, so eating it involved chewing through a cold solid lump of minced lamb covered by cold pastry, which was as unappetising as it sounds at a cost of £5.50. A small paper cup of tea, not refillable, was priced at £1.80. Walnut and coffee cake was good. Indoors was just as cold as outside because the exit door was left permanently open. They are clearly getting customers but I suggest they look again at whether they are providing a good enough experience for the prices being charged.

Come here quite often but so disappointed after our first visit back after the lockdown. Brought a guest with us promising great things and felt embarrassed. There really is no need for these extreme measures like using cardboard cups, boxes and horrible wooden cutlery. It’s like a cheap self service cafe now (but not with the cheap prices - which I don’t normally mind). Covid doesn’t mean you can’t use your nice crockery, sit in at nice tables or have table service. Just not a nice experience

Is it really necessary even at this strange time we live in to be served on paper plates and cardboard containers in a restaurant. Always come to this excellent cafe when visiting locally. No hot options except soup (delicious) but in a cardboard cup! Homemade sausage rolls and quiche but not hot surely that defeats any logic. Yes you can sit outside picnic style but not when it’s raining. The ladies are lovely as always. Trying to do their best in the situation. Even basic cafes can do cutlery and crockery. Expected better from Floors. Winter will be coming and the customers won’t be there if no tables and no hot food.

Shocking staff in here. Myself & husband had taken his parents in as a treat, we hadn't booked a table and it was busy, but the treatment we received from the black haired woman (Wednesday 21st August - 1pm) was absolutely disgusting. She snapped at us saying they was full, couldn't eat outside because of the bees, a table instantly became available, I asked if we could possibly have that one, again she snapped WE ARE FULL & HAVE BOOKINGS while screwing her face up at us. My poor mother & father in law desperately needed a rest so we walked round and sat down behind the cafe. Then we witnessed another waitress take new customers to be seated outside to eat. Scroll down to see similar complaints. Will NEVER return to the cafe or grounds again after this treatment.Vile woman with zero job satisfaction. On a brighter note, upon our arrival earlier that day we had refreshments in the cafe next to the actual castle. Lovely lady serving, as we entered she was carrying box's behind the counter, we got a friendly 'Hello & smile' before she had even put her box down. Couldn't help us enough, she's a little gem, excellent customer service, she needs to go kick the others up the bum.

We hadn't been to Floors Castle for a while after a not very nice experience, but decided to give it another go. Till then we had been regular visitors to the cafe and the plant shop for a number of years. My mum is 92, registered blind, walks with sticks, she is housebound unless she is taken out by people who can drive, so when she is at home she goes weeks without stepping outsider her prison. She is down visiting us so we try to get her out and about as much as we can.We decided to go to the cafe for tea and cakes, visit the shop, maybe buy some plants. No disabled spots available. As she needed to visit the loo and can't walk far, we parked at the toilet entrance, on the delivery bay - at 1430 on a sunday with the place due to close at 4pm, hardly going to get anything delivered. My mum has to be careful with trip hazards due to her sight so the safest place was to park there and then take her across the tarmac to the toilets.A member of staff who was parked in a staff parking space next to us - which could have been used by the delivery vehicle....told us to move. As a concession, we could let mum out but then move the car - no spots near the toilets of course. So she would have had to walk a distance. So we just turned around and left. We would have spent £30-50 today but decided not to. The reason we hadn't been back for a while was last time we took some american visitors for lunch, we had 10 minutes before we had to leave to get them to their train. We asked if they could have a peek at the walled garden - which used to be accessed for free from the cafe. No, we had to pay the full entrance fee. Which we did through gritted teeth.Staffed by a load of rude jobsworths. I hope the member of staff who was so unhelpful doesn't get old, lose her sight and need to spend a penny. At least we didn't spend our pennies there either.

We would have loved to sample the wonderful looking food at the cafe during our visit on Saturday afternoon 24th November. The cafe looked fresh and inviting, however the three staff on duty were not and studiously ignored us while we stood at the “ Please Wait Here to be Seated” sign for several minutes. There were only four tables occupied, the cafe was not busy and we were the ONLY customers waiting. If the customers already seated and served noticed us, why didn’t any staff member at least make eye contact and say they’d be with us asap? It’s dreadful customer service to be ignored (I work with the public and it’s NEVER ok, even if really busy!) It was only as we turned to leave that a waitress actually said “ Was it a table for two you wanted?” . I think that was a reaction to my lifting a couple of your feedback questionnaires! May I suggest a customer care refresher course? We were staying at a hotel in Peebles where the mostly young staff members were first class!

The gardens outside are beyond expectations. The food is just out of this world. After eating here for almost a week at different times I should know. The catering manager is just brilliant at her job. The only problem here is choosing something as it is all first class. Soup is real soup, mains are hearty and home cooked, and the puddings are to die for. The National Trust could learn something from here!!!! THANK YOU ALL

Typical of the cafes found in stately homes ,although not as eye wateringly expensive as some, like Chatsworth for instance. It's a nice place to relax, next to the beautiful gardens.

We stopped here as it had a lovely view of the fantastic walled garden at Floors castle. Great variety of cakes, teas, coffees and snacks. Small shop with tasteful food oriented gifts. Recommend.

Visited for lunch today. Building is lovely and nice atmosphere. However spoiled by very slow service. Waited ages for order to be taken, not provided with cutlery and food was very average. Pity because I was expecting so much more. Bought some excellent baking to take away though (as compensation.....)

I had a pleasant surprise when I visited the Terrace Cafe at Floors. It leads out to the walled gardens of Floors Castle which made the meal taste terriffic on a sunny afternoon

Well trained staff, lovely flowerpot baked bread. The roast beef and ham salads are fantastic. The very best meat sourced locally. Eclairs were delicious. Suggestion: maybe add extra salad to dishes.

We stopped for a light lunch after visiting Floors Castle. The terrace is a 3 or 4 minute drive across the grounds and overlooks the walled garden. We opted to sit outside in the sunshine, service was quick, friendly and polite. The food was delicious and just the right portion size for a mid-day break. Prices were reasonable, we paid about £16 (US$20) for two platedmeals and a two soft drinks. It's well worth a visit.

We stopped off here to have an afternoon tea. It was divine. A place Thais easily missed as it is in centre of the village which means you have to turn off the main road to get there but worth it.

Stopped off here for lunch during our visit to the castle. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant. We had coronation chicken salad and roast beef salad for lunch, both of which were very good indeed. Followed by carrot cake and scone which were very yummy. A lovely lunch in a beautiful setting, will return.

We visited the wonderful Floors Castle, and decided to have a light lunch in the Terrace Cafe. Service was really good, and our cream of broccoli soups arrived quickly. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. We don't often have more than one course, but desserts were pretty reasonable, so we ordered flapjacks. Golly, they were big pieces, and helped keep our energy up for the afternoon. Very pleased we visited.

I had the fish pie which I considered stingy portion-wise at £11.95. It was creamy and flavoursome ( one criticism is that smoked haddock was a bit stiff, as if it had been stirred in separately after cooking). There was a side of peas which were slightly under cooked. The fish pie was in a small ramekin and that was it, no potatoes. When I asked I was told I could order them as a side. My 2 year old had a fishcake and beans and potato wedges, actually more on her plate than mine. So, I was able to just eat enough by eating half of hers. The staff were pleasant and attentive and the ambience good. This is a delicate and twee venue for those who want to nibble on small portions. 4 stars if they had included a few potatoes.

There are two catering outlets at Floors. The Terrace which aims more at meals and is open all year, and the courtyard, which is open when the house is and is more snacky. Floors chefs produce wonderful cakes and sandwiches at one, bigger meals at the Terrace. Terrace has a small deli where apart from other deli bits and pieces, you can pick up frozen meals as well!

We came to visit the gardens at Floors Castle and decided to lunch here. We couldn't believe how busy the cafe was considering the gardens were quiet - obviously a destination.

The place was very clean, well presented and the food was nice. You have a choice of sitting outside to view the walled garden area, or inside. They also sell various tourist items and small local produce. We were also happy with the service we received. There is a medium sized car park right out front of the cafe.

Lovely proper bookshop with a cafe and deli. We were just after a quick coffee but couldn't resist trying the delicious cakes. The flat white was good, strong and hot but rather a small cup. Cakes were as good as they looked. Bought a few books for the Grandchildren and had a browse around the well stocked deli. Loved spotting authors we knew from the pictures on the wall. Will visit again when in the area.

I'm afraid I won't be back. Went to use the facilities and I went into toilets and heard giggling didn't hang around but imagine my dismay when 2 of your cleaners came out of said toilets doing up trousers and straightening themselves up!. Absoloutley disgusting. I've the names of both. To say I'm appalled is an understatement. I came in to shop not witness sex acts. In uniform at the workplace! I'll be informing my friends and family. If this is how you allow your staff to behave! Disgusting if my daughter had been with me and saw that I'd have rang the polis straight away!

This was our second visit to Loulabelle's, the other being in 2023. Lots of delicious food plus friendly staff. We had lunch before visiting a nearby attraction, then nipped back for tea and a cake afterwards. Not cheap, but everything is delicious. The decorations include some great pictures.
