Teppanyaki Japanese Restaurant in Manchester

Came for lunch today and very poor quality. Tired restaurant, in need of updating or decorating at least. Food quality was also not the best, expensive lunch for two people considering.

Me and my boyfriend came here for our 2 year anniversary and had a fantastic experience. I’ve never done this sort of thing before so was a little nervous but they assured us on the way in there would be no gimmicks. It was a little quiet but we were told it picks up around 7pm. However, the staff were quick and attentive, the food was delicious and Ronnie our chef made the whole experience amazing. Best fried rice we have ever tried. Would recommend to anyone!

I don’t understand how this place has so many good reviews, don’t be fooled. The place is really worn out and the food is bad. Your clothes and hair will reek of food and oil when you leave the place. Not worth a visit at all. To be fair there is nothing wrong with the service as the staff are very polite and helpful.

Julius cooked us the best food. He was super friendly and created a lovely experience for us. We will be back in your restaurant every time we visit Manchester.

Honestly we were all quite dissatisfied with our visit here which is such a shame as we were looking forward to it after hearing such great reviews! The positives were the staff, super friendly and welcoming and the restaurant is very cute and authentic! The most enjoyable part for me was the chef who cooks infront of you, you feel really involved with the dining experience and the set up is lovely! Of course the fire on the grill is always going to be a fun experience so kudos to that! The starters were lovely- no issues there however the actual food we ordered on the hot plate (where they cook infront of you) was honestly really plain! Our table ordered two duck fillets with noodles and one vegetarian meal with rice. Even after watching the chef cook and season everything it was super super bland and possibly the blandest duck i have ever tasted! Cooked lovely however lacked salt and was really plain, same with my noodles- all noodles it states are cooked in their special sauce and butter- sounds lovely but again my dish was so plain! We were all super sad about this. My friend who ordered the vegetarian meal also had really plain tofu and veggies- the egg fried rice was delicious however. Unfortunately wont be coming back here again! I feel like you also can not really complain when the chef is literally infront of you cooking the meal which i am of course grateful for but it made me feel less inclined to point out that my entire dish was bland. The guests also on our shared table all agreed that their meat was also lacking salt and flavour so it was our entire table who had this shared experience . Super disappointed with the food unfortunately :( it seems they fry everything with butter and little to no sauce, definitely had better japanese food before, such a shame!

Lovely atmosphere around the chef. No "playing around" with the food which is something I appreciate. You don't get eggs or potatoes thrown at you. At the same time, I can't fathom the idea of paying £35 to get plenty of rice, potatoes and about 150g of protein of your choice (salmon, chicken, beef etc). I find the concept of teppanyaki to be more entertaining rather than, delighting from a culinary perspective. I'd love to trial the place again but not on its teppanyaki menu, but on its regular dishes.

Had a meal here while attending a show in Manchester and had great experience. We shared a table with 4 other people and a fantastic time. It was amazing seeing the fresh food being cooked in front of you. The chef cooked the various dishes people had ordered to each individuals liking. He food was tasty and plentiful. The staff were great and it was. Good value for money. I’ll definitely be back

This place is spot on for nice food, main course cooked in front of you with fresh ingredients, the place isnt fancy but the food and service was great.... we really enjoyed it

We were seated quickly and drinks ordered. There were 2 of us so we shared the table with 2 other couples. The tables are very close together as the restaurant is small compared to others we have been to. We ordered Chicken Gyoza and Teryaki Chicken Skewers for starters which were as delicious as each other. We then had Lobster and Fillet Steak cooked to our preference infront of us by Ronnie, along with egg fried rice, beansprouts and seasonal veg. All cooked to perfection. Was a perfect meal for my husbands birthday meal.

Fantastic first experience. Family of 8. We ordered the Imperial set menu for 6 adults and ordered extra dishes for the kids. We had a good selection of high quality Chicken, Duck, Steak, Lamb, Prawns and Scallops. Our Chef was excellent and prepared the food with no gimmicks in front of us. All the food was delicious and we all left feeling full. All the staff were attentive and welcoming. Really pro-active offering drinks. Can’t fault the service or the food at all. At the end Ronnie popped over and gave us the history of the restaurant as he was cleaning down which was a nice touch too. Would highly recommend if you want great food, good service without all the ‘extra’ theatrics you may get elsewhere.

Starters and sushi are quite nice. The mains, however, we felt are quite overpriced for what you get. I'd also like to mention that one of the (raw) chicken breasts arrived to the cooking chef with the order ticket right on top of it. Even though it was cooked afterwards, it was a bit off-putting and didn't feel very sanitary. Our meal was fine but we don't feel appealed to return.

It's food with entertainment included. The chefs are amazing how they can turn the cooking into a show and yet still cook everything perfect each time. Genuinely one of my favourite places to eat in Manchester!

The service is very good and the food is delicious. It is better than the Teppanyaki restaurant I have eaten before. The store also provides food for vegetarians. It is a highly recommended store.

Poor value for money, the food was quite average, and there are better restaurants in the area. We booked a table for 9:30 PM, and as soon as we sat down, they told us we had 5 minutes to order. They stood behind us to rush our choices so they could close. We had to quickly and uncomfortably look at the menu, and if you want more food or dessert later, that's not possible. My friend asked about the toilet, and they told her it was closed and to use the one in the restaurant upstairs. Throughout the meal, we felt uncomfortable and pressured by the constant rush. I believe a restaurant should be aware of what it can offer and if they can't provide quality service at that time, they shouldn't offer table reservations. If a restaurant allows me to dine at that hour, I expect to enjoy my dinner just as much as I would if I came earlier. After dinner, I mentioned these issues to Alex (who might be the manager), and his response was defensive. He said they didn’t charge a service fee on the bill and that the kitchen closes at that hour. I reiterated that if the restaurant can't provide the same level of service as during the day, they shouldn't offer reservations, and the service should end earlier. I spent money dining at an expensive restaurant and my experience was uncomfortable and rushed. Many of the items we ordered weren’t to our liking, and if we had had time to think calmly, we probably would have ordered differently. They didn’t even want to let us use the bathrooms. Alex’s attitude was poor and defensive throughout, he did not listen to me and just kept saying “thank you” while I was explaining the situation. I will never return to this restaurant and will recommend my friends do the same.

Was in Manchester and decided to go to china town and try this place. I’ve been to a teppanyaki before and loved it. Upon entry into the building there is a small set of stairs that you need to go up and they do have a lift but was out of order at the time. Not ideal if you’re carrying a pram etc… This place was decent! Food was a little bland but cooked to perfection. the experience was great the host chef was to the point and got on with it but was polite and friendly. They do signpost before coming in that they’re not about the gimmicks. There was about 10 of us that went and most of the group hadn’t been before or experienced this type of dining so would have been nice to see the juggling of eggs and unique cooking methods haha! Price wise I thought it was a bit expensive but did enjoy the experience and food overall. Starters are cooked by the kitchen and the mains are cooked at your table, when I’ve been to other teppanyaki everything is cooked at your table which adds to the experience I feel. Overall enjoyable, good location in the city centre, parking is decent although we went on a Sunday so was quiet in surrounding streets and got parked pretty close.

Our 2nd visit in 12 months and the food didn’t disappoint. Staff friendly; you come here for great food & these guys deliver….look forward to our 3rd visit!

Was expecting more from the experience. Food was only average and therefore disappointing! Service was great atmosphere was poor. Won’t be rushing back here sadly. Also on the booking they wanted a deposit which was no problem… it took five attempts on the phone to get someone to answer. I also left a message on the answer phone and nobody got back to me.

Ronnie is the best, food was amazing for my wife’s birthday. We came back after 12 years and the food was great! Would definitely recommend

Ronnie, the head chef, cooked our food at our table. He was very engaging and informative and of course a master of his art. The food was fabulous, service superb and excellent value.

Basic and boring. Just watching someone cook on a hot plate. I’ve been better entertained watching burger Dave flip his burgers in his burger van. £100 for 2 people for food fried on a hot plate with no entertainment value is a bit high. If your looking for Teppanyaki that also entertains don’t come here

The “chef” served me pink undercooked chicken. When I pointed this out, he said “you asked for medium rare when I asked”. Yes, I did, but I presumed you were asking for the steak not the chicken! Suffice to say I’ve lost a night to horrible food poisoning. AVOID!

One of my favorite restaurants in Manchester, we visit every time we are in the city. The restaurant describes itself as having "no gimmicks or tricks" and I find that to be true. All in all, the experience here is more relaxing compared to other teppanyaki restaurants, making it a perfect date night spot. The staff are always friendly and polite and it is delightful to watch your food be cooked right in front of you! The menu highlights for us include the surf and turf, which is big enough for two people to share, and the vast array of sushi choices in the appetizer menu.

The lively atmosphere and interactive cooking style made for an entertaining evening. The friendly chefs were incredibly skilled, putting on a great show while preparing our food right in front of us. The communal dining setup added to the fun, making it a perfect spot for groups and celebrations. While everything was tasty, one thing to note is that most of the Teppanyaki dishes seemed to have a similar flavour profile. Aside from the Teppanyaki set, they serve pretty good Maki Sushi too.

Been to Saporro Teppanyaki before, thought this would have been the same. Food great, staff friendly but lack of atmosphere and entertainment that you get at Saporro.

I believe I made a mistake booking this restaurant. The chef did no more than cook the food, website says "theatrical dining experience" There was none, let alone interaction with guests. Circa £50pp a for a set menu, absolutely fine if there was the show you normally get. But we left feeling deflated.

Loved the experience. The chef cooked on a hotplate at your table and chatted to you about your food. The lunchtime meal deal was excellent. We will go again .

This was not good at all . It cost £124 for 2 of us for the set menu. The portions were small. The starter was ok. The egg fried rice was nice. Nothing about it justified the high price.We wasn't made to feel welcome at all. A few members of staff sat at a table seemed to be where the attention was. The food was OK at best but everything had a bitter background flavour. The guy who cooked the food was nice but other that that the whole experience was very disappointing. Totally overpriced for what we got and the service wasn not great at all. We won't be returning.

First of all they should tell you it is a share table. Not everyone likes to sit with people that they don’t know. When we said we cannot sit with others the attitude towards us was very poor.

Visited today after a theatre trip and had the best meal out in ages. Service was quick and friendly. We ate 3 courses with drinks and everything was fresh and matched their pricing. We had the nigri sushi, tempura prawns, duck spring rolls and vegetable gyoza. For mains we had sirloin and lamb with noodles. The teppanyaki is of very high quality without all the usual gimmicks. We had the mochi and ice cream for dessert.. I did want the Japanese pancakes and tea but they were out. Would definitely come back here on our own or with friends.

Great food, lovely stuff. Alex in particular stud out to me as we have the same name. The hibachi chef was also very professional and friendly. Sushi was outstanding, highly recommend. Could be a tiny bit warmer inside but that’s just me being picky.

Can’t say how disappointed we were. It was only us eating in the whole restaurant. Usually at teppanyaki the chef is part of the theatre; they involve the kids and play games etc. None of that last night. It felt odd just sitting there whilst Patel (Indian chef) attempted to cook our food Japanese style. The food was well under parr. We all left the majority of our food. None of it was nice. All in the the teppanyaki part last about 20 mins. All our food was cooked at once and placed in front of us. Our starters were left also, the kids munched the spring rolls, I ate some of the sushi. I would not recommend this place at all if you want an authentic experience. But if you looking for someone trying to cook Japanese terribly, virtually not talking, and eating in an empty restaurant then this place could be for you.

Myself & my partner visited as it was something different which we don't have back home in Middlesbrough. We were blown away by the flavours of the food, particularly by the egg fried rice & prawns, cooked by Julius, who was also such a lovely guy to talk to & his customer service skills were great. We would 100% visit again & recommend to people in the future. Massive thanks to Julius for such a lovely meal.

Bit disappointed last time we went, there was no entertainment by the chef. This is one of the draw factors for going to a teppanyaki restaurant. Food was good.

Myself and a friend were in Manchester for the Slash gig last night and can hear for some food beforehand. We had duck, monkfish, udon noodles and egg fried rice. Everything was cooked in front of us at the table by chef Julius Ceaser (that’s what he told us). He was so lovely, friendly and fun and what a chef. The food was perfect and he made us feel so welcome and comfortable. I would 100% return. The portions were very generous and it was excellent value for money at roughly £25 each with drinks and tips. The waiter whose name I didn’t catch was also really friendly and helpful. Would absolutely recommend.

Very disappointing, could get better food at a takeaway. Really salty all tasted the same, nice staff, not really clean, tiniest toilets, £40 a head really poor value. , no entertainment value other than throwing a bit of alcohol on the grill then lighting it at the beginning, most food overcooked and tasted bitter as garlic and ginger burnt on grill, nice paintings on wall but all felt a bit dirty and grimey.

I’ve been there before another 2 time but now the experience was completely different. Dirty, no show at all and guy who was cooking dinner have a clue about to use the teppanyaki. He was so messy, cleaning his sweat with a paper and throwing it away right where the food leftovers through the whole of the tepanyaki while cooking. Honestly so disgusting and very bad experience. Last time there

I liked everything (the hoods work a little poorly, since after the visit the smell of food remained on my clothes and hair), but the food and service were at a high level. Interesting presentation of dishes (they cook in front of you, like a cooking show).
