Tokyo Ramen in Manchester

Visiting Manchester and we come across one of a tiktok videos about good ramens in Manchester, so we have to try it out. The place is nice, not a lot of seating but it was decent. Staff was very friendly and is happy to discuss about the menu. Menu is small and quite straight forward which is good. The food is amazing. We ordered the Fire Ramen and the Koji Chicken. Chicken is crispy and the sauce complements the the chicken. The Fire Ramen is flavourful and rich with a touch of herbiness which is nice to cut down the richness of the broth. Price is reasonable for the quality of food and serving. All in all, it was a great night and the food didn’t disappoint. Highly recommended when visiting Manchester if you are craving for a nice bowl of ramen. 🍜

Unfortunately the quality of the food has significantly dropped since the rebrand examples included eggs that are hardly marinated and refrigerator cold chicken on my last trip, it’s a shame because this was my favourite restaurant in Manchester

Flavours that do not appeal to anyone, few options in the menu

One of the best ramens I've tried in my life! Fire ramen: 10/10 so satisfying. You can taste the passion in the broth, highly recommend.

Been here twice a year apart - menu has hardly changed since, just the addition of the soft shell crab (delicious). Some reviews take issue with the small menu but its better to do less and do it really well. Ramen is very tasty, filling and comes quick. Service is friendly and efficient. Music is great. Good value for money. One star knocked off because it was quite cold inside, and the toilet could do with a spruce up.

The Kinoko Ramen totally made my day. Original, surprising, delicious, well balanced and with just the right amount of funk. I was bobbing my head to the food as much as to the well chosen hip hop soundtrack.

Had such a fab experience here! We had the famous fried chicken ramen (fire) and the mushroom (kinoko) 🍜 They were both absolutely delicious and VERY filling. The service was also super friendly and the place filled up super quickly

The best ramen I had in a long time. It was spicy and I’m not a spicy freak but I finished and it was really good. I totally recommend!

The fire ramen is crazy salty. It was inedible and I had to send it back. The Shoyu ramen thankfulky wasn't as salty. Overall, it's pretty pricey for very very average ramen.

We've been going there for years and each time they are amazing. I would recommend it to everyone who wants to have ramen.

Mind blowingly good mushroom ramen.

I ordered the fire ramen and was pretty disappointed. It was unbelievably salty without much other flavour profile, just some chilli but indistinct, and while I liked the slightly citrus-y kale/cavolo nero, I wasn't a fan of the lime wedges in the broth. It just didn't fit. On the other hand, the bits of fried chicken in the ramen were downright delicious, and the noodles had great texture. On that alone, I'm tempted to go back and try something else. Staff were super friendly, and came to take my order promptly. They have QR codes on the tables but seemingly no cell service inside, though there's wifi you can connect to for free. The setting is...not for me. The lighting was atrocious and I was sat in a corner where the only light was behind me, so my entire meal was in shadow and I couldn't see jack shit. The music kind of fits the vibe (grungy hip-hop) but is so not *my* vibe and probably deters customers. There was also nowhere to put bags and coats which is super annoying.

The guys are so friendly and the food is honestly top tier. I can’t use chopsticks to save my life but they were kind enough to make some training wheel chopsticks and they worked!☺️ had a great time - would recommend it to anyone.

Never a complete Manny trip without one of these. Been going since the start in 2016. Sadly, seems like it lost a bit of hype but now its kind of a hidden gem, so I ain't mad.

So glad to see Tokyo Ramen back open again! This place has always been my top spot for ramen in Manchester, and it's not been the same without it. Their Shoyu ramen is unbeatable—rich, creamy broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and tender pork belly, and the soft-boiled egg is still spot-on, with that ideal runny yolk -They're still whipping up dishes just as good as I remembered. It’s great to have this place back, and if you haven’t been yet or are a fan from before, definitely make a visit. The quality and flavor are as great as ever.

Ramen & service were amazing, would recommend for a first-time experience 💕

Chicken wasn't fried fully and left the flour very powdery inside. Overpowering use of chilli oil in the broth ruined any flavour it may have had. Service was fast but sat under a fan that kept dripping on my table.

Con el increíble Cocktail Ramen & Bun desaparecido, le aconsejaría a la gente ir Maki Ramen en su lugar. Incluso recomendaría House of Fu sobre esto, cuya sucursal de Manchester realmente no está al nivel de la sucursal de Leeds. Me gustó el ambiente interior y el hecho de que tienen una opción vegetariana en el menú parecía ser popular entre otros clientes. Shoyu ramen was amazing, though the veggie ramen was a very acquired and rich taste, would be good to have a more standard miso broth for my veggie mates

La carne de cerdo está demasiado seca, la sopa sabe más a química - favorezca el polvo que la verdadera sopa de ramen, y no añadimos chucrut chino a nuestro ramen japonés - estilo. Era demasiado caro — 15 libras en NQ — y nunca lo volveré a comprar.

I love the yummy koji fried chicken. Signature fire Ramen !! l can say the broth,noodle and topping very well prepare. Surely, they really put the heart in to the dish. However, l'm not keen on the broth, l love to slupp the whole bowl, as they supposed to be a highlight of the dish. I'm sorry to say that they were too salty for me. Probably l get used to Thai noodle and Pho more than Japanese Ramen. Would l recommend this place : Yes indeed !

Not the most authentic but you definitely can’t go wrong coming here if you’re in need of a ramen fix. Thought the price was a little high for the portion size and the pork in the shoyu was quite tough but service was VERY fast.

I LOVE Tokyo Ramen! It's my favourite ramen place in the UK, and I've been to quite a few now..! I've visited the last three times I've come to Manchester for work and been blown away every time, the menu is usually made up of two staple ramen dishes and then new rotating ones and fresh sides, it's a small menu but everything on it is absolutely perfect - I didn't believe in god until I found out he works here in the kitchen! Bring your friends! Spread the word! Tokyo Ramen is one of my favourite places in the world!

Went in expecting generic noodle dishes but absolutely loved the pork ramen, the broth was filling, the noodles were quality, the pork was cooked perfect and everything was seasoned well Food was amazing, the customer service was amazing, and the free spoon made it a 30/10 I will definitely be going back for more pork ramen

Had the ramen here last night after a recommendation from friends saying it’s the best in Manchester. It was incredible, authentic and tasty ramen! The service was also brilliant, the guy was so attentive and friendly. Will be going back next time we are in Manchester

Weird vibes, service wasnt it, options are so limited that it's hard to be sad about food not being delicious because there was no other option (mustard vegan broth with cold tomato in it was weird). With better ramen restaurants in town, hard to be enthusiastic or even neutral about it

The menu was limited, but this really appealed to me and my family. Too much choice is overwhelming. Spot on! The guy showed us to our table, helped us with the menu, suggested a drink, and was so helpful. You can see your food being cooked. Great job, guys. I would deffo recommend that deffo be going again. The food was delicious, thank you. 😊

I've eaten here a few times and it used to be fantastic. The food is still nice, but not as good as it used to be. On this visit the noodles were definitely not as good and generally the food just didn't feel quite so good.

Serves above average ramen, with the choice of two chicken broths and a mushroom one. Personally, I think the mushroom Kinoko Ramen is the best of the offerings with a creamy depth of flavour. Would recommend but think there is room for improvement in terms of the menus offerings.

I had the Fire 🍜 Ramen. Definitely recommend if you take the heat/chilli! Broth was amazing…and the crispy chicken on top was perfectly fried with tender juicy chicken inside.

I still think about this ramen 3 years after eating there. It is 100% worth it. Having travelled extensively as a vegan in Japan and worldwide, I can say with certainty that this is the best vegan ramen with mushrooms I have ever tried.

Not great at all. I'm sure there are much better ramen place at that price point. I was thoroughly disappointed. The broth was extremely alkaline to the point that it left a bad soapy aftertaste in my mouth. Would not go there. I ordered extra ramen on the side and they were drenching in oil (!?). Not sure why. I've had proper ramen in Asian countries and that's not how it's done. Honestly, the reviews and rating got me very hyped up but unfortunately I cannot share the same feelings.

Great ramen and nice side dishes available too--the softshell crab is amazing. The service is friendly and efficient, and I like the atmosphere here too. To be honest, the no-booking system put me off at first but I've never had to wait more than 5 mins for a table, even on Friday & Saturday nights.

One of the best bowls of ramen I’ve ever had. Had the fire ramen, which comes with a very warming broth and delicious chicken. It absolutely lives up to the name but is so flavourful underneath that heat. Friendly and attentive service. Limited tables but any queue is absolutely worth it.

It is actually very good ramen. Maybe a bit saltier than optimal for me, but great otherwise. The barcode menu is a bit silly as the location has poor mobile signal and you have to mess a bit with their own WiFi, but service is good and fast otherwise. It's not cheap, but worth it if you like ramen.

Had lunch with friends the other day. I was really looking forward to Tokyo Ramen as I had heated very good things. The food was genuinely delicious, the pork belly was nothing short of sublime. However the atmosphere for a quick lunch with friends was beyond bad, poor customer service from a member of staff who seemed to be either having a bad day or just didn't care accompanying the heavy and oppressive thumping music which made conversation virtually impossible. So in essence, great food, just find somewhere else to eat it.

It's an okay bowl of ramen and whilst it wasn't unpleasant, I feel like for a similar price you can get much more flavourful bowls of ramen in Manchester from Shoryu Ramen, Maki and Ramen or New Wave.

Blown away by the ramen here! Had the spicy chicken broth and it was AMAZING. The side of soft shell crab was perfectly seasoned and not stingy on the portion. The staff were also super friendly. Can't wait to come back here

This noodle bar was fricking busy as heck when I came to this place in mid November 2023 with my brother + his wife and my bf. Very affordable and massive ramen bowls with a very generous portion size. I'd say the soup base was phenomenal just how i like strong seasoned broth base, the pork belly was buttery and melted within seconds, noodle texture was bouncy and good after all fresh handmade noodles are the best. Due to being super busy when I went food service was fast

If you never tried ramen before I’d definitely recommend this place because it sets the bar high I went to this restaurant the other day and man am I pleased with the quality and food. I enjoyed the flavours of the broth and how the noodles were in the best possible tenderness and softness in my personal liking. I had the shoyo ramen and boy did I live for the perfect delicacy and texture of the pork. It was very well made and tasted so fresh and appetising! The atmosphere was pretty hipster and was really busy but I’m someone who likes atmospheres like that. It makes the vibe of the restaurant pretty authentic. I was personally pleased with the aesethics of the restaurant considering how it was small yet comfy and didn’t feel like them forced ‘posh’ restaurants that didn’t really match at all. The food, music and design completely matched and I was honestly pleased with it. With the service I would say it’s top notch considering the staff is completely limited. The waiter was very friendly, helped out a lot and I actually didn’t feel judged at all when I asked for any sort of service from the waiter. I appreciated this since my biggest pet peeve is when it feels awkward, however I felt so comfortable in the restaurant The drinks were top tier too because I’ve never tried Ramune soda but god did I enjoy it. The menu as a whole was limited but I appreciate and enjoy the fact that the price actually reflected the quality which is rare when it comes to Japanese restaurants and foods icl. As I whole, I genuinely feel like this place was one of the best Japanese restaurants I ever tried! Through my observations I found it even more impressive how such a good restaurant managed to create such amazing work with such a small working team. If anything, I can definitely see this restaurant being so much more successful in the future. The only thing I would complain about is how I wish I found this place a lot sooner so I could brag about it to my friends. Keep up the good work!

We went on a quiet evening, however the atmosphere is still really warm and friendly. Sat in full view of the kitchen which was an added experience! The food was incredible and our server was fab, reccomending to mix a couple of the authentic drinks they have on offer and what a suggestion it was! I look forward to returning :)

Ramen was good, honestly. I feel like I've had better if i was gonna pay this sort of price, but they were FAST so i see it being a good work lunch place if youre nearby. Waiter was lovely but I didn't see an option to tip on the card machine and had no cash. There's a burger place in town with a contactless tip machine by the door and I wish more places were like that. I didn't love the seating style tbh (little bar stool type thing's) and actually think it might have been uncomfortable if I was taller, though tbf I didn't check if the seats were adjustable (no way I'm brave enough for that).

If you like Ramen you are in for a treat, the food speaks for its self, there is real care in what is being served, very cool place, very cool vide, highly recommend!!

Went here with my family a few days before Christmas. Both the service and food were outstanding. Some of the best ramen I have had and the fried chicken was perfect. Servers were also lovely to my 3 year old.

I don’t usually rewrite bad reviews and it doesn’t give me any pleasure in doing so but a group of us got food poisoning, one of which was pregnant and had vomiting and toilet symptoms, having to visit triage at the hospital as a result. The fried chicken tasted off and very likely was the cause of the food poisoning, to those at Tokyo Ramen, please review dates of your produce and review your stock control, this was rather disappointing, it’s a shame as the service was great but unfortunately doesn’t excuse the standards in health and safety.

I would not recommend this place, if you’re looking for Ramen, go to Maki and Ramen! It feels like they put this place to appease the hipsters because it’s across from Afflecks (do highly recommend popping in there). But the ramen was flavorless and so so so oily. It was hard to eat. Their chicken was really good and was recommended on TikTok. Overall, I wouldn’t go back by choice but if I was starving, it wouldn’t kill you. **edit to add, I’m not being rude, just honest. I have had ramen around the world at this point and all throughout Europe - this ramen is just sub-par. Everyone’s tastes are different, this just wasn’t my preference. The location is cool and the workers were kind. Just didn’t care for the food. ✌🏻 ***edit edit to add since the owner wants to keep going and just not accept that their ramen is sub-par in comparison to other places… just look at the pictures. They speak for themselves. That ramen has a LAYER of oil on the top, it really wasn’t great. I didn’t care for it. I’m allowed to have an opinion. the food was amazing!!!!! Hygiene of this place is elite!!! The food was cooked to perfection, the meat melts in your mouth. The broths are exceptionally good. Would recommend the chicken one with the pork.

I had the kinoko ramen which was nice and tasty, I really liked the consistency of the noodles and the egg was perfect. My boyfriend had the shio ramen if I am not mistaken and said it was the best ramen he has had. The portions were ample and I think it is a very appropriate price, especially for a small business in the city centre. We also ordered a peach highball that the waiter recommended to get which was really nice and I’d definitely get it again. The general atmosphere of the place was quite casual, you usually share your table with other people. I sat side by side with my partner which made it easier to talk. The music was also exactly my taste in music so it made it even better!

I had a shyo ramen, which is basically based on chicken and I didn't like it, also very pricey £14. The environment is like a night club, dark walls, no lights and hip hop music. Nothing about Japan

I ordered Shio Ramen, which was a bit too slaty, but it is supposed to be this way in Japan. I would consider the portion adequate for female customers, but a little bit too small for guys. Overall, it was the best ramen I had in Manchester so far.

I’d totally recommend the Shoyu Ramen, it’s really delicious as the soup is really flavourful. However, the Shio Ramen is a bit disappointing because the flavour is rather bland and the chicken is bit raw. Unluckily, the fried crab ramen is only available for a short period of time, which is the main reason draw us to visit. I understand how difficult it is when the shop is busy and there is only one waiter serving all the customers. Nevertheless, the waiter seems to lack of the awareness to treat every customer equally during our visit, which is disappointing. The environment is alright, but the light is a bit to dark in my perspective.

The Fire Ramen (Koji fried chicken ramen/previously called the tantanmen) is legit my favourite ramen dish of all time. I live an hour away and try and swing by at least once a month for one because of how much I love it. I've tried 70 or so ramen dishes around the world and this one just hits all of the right spots for me. I hope this place stays here forever!

Superb ramen! We had the Shoyu Ramen and the Shio Ramen. Perfect meal to warm you up on a cold winters day. Absolutely delicious and perfect portion size. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Will be back for sure.

This is a casual ramen joint like you could find in Japan, don't expect anything fancy, but ramen at the end of the day is not exactly a fancy dish, so you get what you asked for. I really enjoyed my shoyu ramen, the torched pork is really the star of the show. Juicy and oh so tasty, literally melts in your mouth. honestly recommended. The rest of the menu is not as stellar, but if you are around looking for a quick hearty meal, definitely try their shoyu ramen with extra torched pork. Thank me later. The staff is very nice and attentive too, all in all a pleasant experience.

Went for lunch with a couple of friends today. We had wanted to try the Halloween special that was still high up on the social media page, but that wasn’t available. It would have been nice to have a start and end date on the specials online … but that wouldn’t have stopped us from going as it was strongly recommended by friends. We had shoyu ramen, fire ramen, koji fried chicken, vegetable gyoza, ramune and yuzu ramune. The ramen was very good. I loved that the noodles had a good bite and the broth was punchy. We agreed that the shoyu was better than the fire. The torched pork belly in the shoyu was amazing and if I had known, I would have ordered extra of that! Towards the end, there was a bitter edge to the fire, and I wonder if that’s because of the pieces of lemon (or lime?) that’s sitting and soaking in the broth. Regardless, excellent bowls of noodles and I’d gladly have both again (and again) with extra pork! Service was a bit lackluster and it did feel like we were being told off when we asked for extra firm noodles. I can only assume that others had complained about noodles being too firm before, but if he’s warned me and I still want it… then maybe I didn’t need another “warning”? This is one of those places with loud thumping music. It seems like a trend these days… but personally, not keen. In summary, great food… but can I have it as a takeaway in future please?

Best ramen I’ve had outside of Japan!!! Such fantastic food! We each had a different bowl of ramen, & all were so delicious. The sides of fried chicken & vege gyoza were also so tasty. Very cool minimalist kitchen design too. We will be back!

Delicious ramen, we both chose the spicy ramen and it was suitably spicy for my friend who loves spice, yet still also enjoyable for me who struggles with spicy food! Each bowl was £14 and whilst it was high for the amount of food it is a very filling and heart bowl still. I'd say it's worth it! The space is modern, warm and industrial. A little dark without the sunlight in the main window, but you can still see enough to eat your food haha! Would love to go back and try the other ramens some day!

The food here is absolutely on point. The menu is small making it easy to choose, and the meals are absolutely delicious. We had a Shoyu Ramen, Fire Ramen, and a side of Koji Fried Chicken — they were all so good. The noodles were perfectly textured, just the right amount of chewy. The broth was rich and textured in both ramens. And the Koji Fried Chicken was so tasty. The chicken pieces in the Fire Ramen were perfectly fresh and still crunchy even though it’s sitting in a broth. The person who assisted us with our orders and served was amazing. He gave us great advice on what to get, mixed us a custom impromptu cocktail, and bought a great vibe to an already terrific experience. As a hardcore lover of ramen I can confidently say this is a terrific place to stop.

A really enjoyable experience. The food was delicious, the service was exemplary and really made you feel valued. Would definitely recommend the whole menu I couldn’t find any fault in it.
