We had heard good things about the food here. Dropped in one night and looked at the specials board. Decided to book for my wifes birthday on 15th March. Superb confit chicken and a lamb/leek pie. Excellent value for money, tasty and good portion sizes not like the poncey small offerings in some nearby pubs. Mary & Brian

I visited the pub with a view to hiring a room at the back for a large family meal. After ordering the food I went to the bar to order another round of drinks where I saw a dog behind the bar. Also just before food was served a couple with a dog were placed next to us even though the pub was empty. The dog absolutely stunk. Because a dog was freely roaming around the pub and we had a smelly dog next to us we felt the place was very unhygienic. Its a shame the pub wasn’t split in half so the dog lovers had their own area. I didn’t finish my meal because of the smell but to be fair what I eat was actually nice. My wife said the fish was fantastic. This is our opinion. Had it not been for the dogs we probably would have enjoyed our visit and revisited.

Stopped off just by chance. The sun was out and the car park was full, always a good sign. Lots to choose from the menu and the specials board. I had Camembert and my husband had the burger. The teenagers had the scampi all Home cooked hot and well presented. The food was Scrumptious!! Cost £56 for the four of us with drinks. The lady serving us was lovely and friendly and was busy running back and forth to the pub and garden. The pub has a separate field which is used for campers. The atmosphere was lovely we would return next time we visit North Devon.

We had chosen this pub at random as somewhere convenient to meet friends.. Lovely welcome. Food was timely... and amazingly good. Our friends are owners/chef of their own Dartmoor hotel, so to have such a great response from them is really saying something. We all had 3 courses and each was superb. Well presented and absolutely delicious. Well done to you all. Just wish we could pick this place up and bring it closer to Wiltshire.

This restaurant was recommended to us. We tried for Saturday night but fully booked so we booked for Thursday. For starters we had Thai fish cakes and sticky chicken wings. The wings were delicious, the fish cakes were nice just not as fishy as I expected. For mains we had the beef sizzler and the chicken jungle curry. Both came with Thai sticky rice. They were all delicious with the fiery Jungle just beating the sizzler to top spot. The staff were attentive. Overall 9/10

We recently visited the Teign House Inn with friends as we were camping. I was not expecting the restaurant to be such exceptional high quality but WOW! Every single dish was perfection, such high quality delicious food and very reasonably priced! The wonderful Asian menu on top of a more traditional menu is also a huge bonus. We all had different things off the menu and each dish was absolutely amazing. I would say this is one of the best places to eat in the area. The chef is incredible! We will be back now for date nights, Sunday lunches and meals with the family!

My wife and I were in Devon for a week in the middle of August. Stupidly, with COVID-19 and school holidays, we hadn’t booked anywhere to eat in advance. Anyway, after phoning many places and being told that they were unable to accommodate us, we managed to get a table at the Teign House Inn on the Sunday evening. With this being the case, I was slightly concerned that it might be an indication of the quality of the food. However, I needn’t have worried - I had the roast beef and my wife had one of the specials, and both were absolutely delicious. So much so that we decided to book again for the end of the week. Once again, our meals (butternut squash gnocchi and seafood mornay) were brilliant. Also, the staff were excellent, and prices seemed very reasonable too. Would highly recommend!

I have been to the Teign House Inn many times now, and always for food. Time and again the service is warm, welcoming and friendly. The whole team are on the ball every time. As for the food, well it is top draw each and every time. This evening (13/08/20) my wife and i were out to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. It was a no brainer to pick the Inn. Highly recommend the Duck Liver starter, it was plate licking tasty, although i did manage to stop myself from licking the plate clean. The thai menu is on par with the curries i had when i was in Thailand itself a number of years ago. Also the real ale is always good, always 3-4 good quality ales to choose from. This is my 3rd review for the place in the last couple of years and always score it 5 out of 5. Please do not pay attention to any low grades, some people just go out of their way to moan. Honestly, Teign House is my favourite pub for food and just so glad it is only a 20 minute drive from my home.Thank you team!!!

Went for a bike ride with friends and decided to stop off for a quick beer to recover... Never been to this pub before. Looks good from the outside and had a large garden where we could sit and have a drink in the sun!A lovely lady, who I know know to be called Anne, came to take our drinks order. Whilst doing some light sunbathing our drinks came back very quickly and the first sip was heaven! (Might have been something to do with the bike ride)We quickly had another drink each, to which we then decided to look at a menu. Not a massive menu but with all things going on, there was a nice selection. I had the Otter battered fish and chips, and my friends all had the Teign burger - Very decent portions, and very nice homemade touches on there like the coleslaw, tarter sauce etc. Was very nice food, just what we needed! The barman was also very polite and very well spoken. Nothing but pleasant interactions the whole time we were there! As I said before, I have never been to this pub before, but I can guarantee, I will defiantly be back!-Duncan

For mains we enjoyed 2 fish and chips, 1 Thai green chicken curry (nice and spicey) and 1 ham, egg and chips. Again all very tasty and very well presented. Along with some tasty, local, well kept beers we also enjoyed the quiz, Ali who organised the quiz was most amusing with her quips and funny comments she really made the quiz special. The Teign House is almost perfect for me ...I'm trying hard to think of anything that is imperfect and there are loads of little things if you wanted to be picky. But I think that it's imperfections are what make it such a comfortable, welcoming place to be. There are plenty of other dull , unremarkable pubs in the area that aren't in the same league and unlike other pubs in the area that are nakedly trying to attract the fat wallets, the Teign House does what it does without trying to target a particular market. Everyone welcome, all tastes catered for. The food is a excellent, there's a confident loucheness to it. The regular menu offers a great burger, fish and chips, a gorgeous hangar steak and other offerings that you'd expect on a a good pub menu. There's a Thai menu, haven't sampled this so I can't comment, but it's the specials board that you should train your attention on. You can tell by the offerings that the person running the kitchen has a very keen interest in flavours and likes to play in their food workshop. I had a really gorgeous chowder with a side of fries recently that quietly displayed the confidence and skill of the kitchen., it was gorgeous. Generous pieces of fish in a beautifully balanced and seasoned creamy broth, the crisp fries adding a very pleasing crispy contrast. I have a family of food obsessives and we often sit around discussing where to nip off to for a good pub dinner and we've tried every pub in the area and the Teign House is our hands down favourite. The service can be a bit scatty but that's OK, you can forgive having to go and fetch your own cutlery now and again when the very fairly priced food is so good. Pubs like this are rare and totally deserving of our support. Perfect .....almost.

We booked this place for a meal by accident, as we got the name wrong. However we went for a meal and to say we were disappointed is an understatement. The bar was absolutely filthy, with thick dust on the fireplace. The toilets were disgusting, and it makes you wonder how clean is the kitchen... There were children at the bar (is this not illegal?) and several dogs wandering around. The menu seletion is not great but the starters were very nice, not so the main meal if like me you like your food cooked but if you want raw food then maybe it is ok, and the sticky toffee pudding desert was obviously baked in the oven and had a very hard inedible crust. Would not recommend this place, or go again.

It doesn't look much from the outside and we nearly gave it a miss but we are happy to have found the Teign House Inn to be one of our current favourite pubs in Devon. Inside we found a very warm welcome, dog included, and a lovely traditional country pub - the kind with books to read and comfortable nooks. If I was imagining my perfect pub to visit, it would be very close to the TH inn so to keep things short I am going to make a list of what I think are the special features for me:Beautiful rural location in great walking countryUnspoilt traditional interior, but very comfortable - 2 rooms, 2 fireplacesProfessional but friendly service Excellent range of real ales and cidersDog friendlyBut best of all ..... the food! In a few words the menu is imaginative and different - and the dishes we have tried were all delicious with high quality ingredients, skilfully prepared and presented. I think the enticing range of Asian dishes to eat in and take away is a great idea and they look amazing. Every time I have visited I have intended to try a curry but have then been tempted by one of the imaginative specials on offer.Puddings also delicious - the home-made ice cream was wonderful.Food for foodies, meat-eaters or vegetarian. For lovers of Asian food (and if like me you are unimpressed with the average local Indian restaurant fare) this pub can offer you authentic curries with flair.

Having eaten here before I wasn't totally excited to turn up for an extremely dry nut roast (as this is my normal works lunch offering)I was so so wrong, the starter was mushroom pate - delicious, and not too much leaving me hungry for the star turn...Vegetarian Gnocchi! When I found out my co-workers had ordered this I wasn't too thrilled... but when it came it was totally knock out! amazingly fresh, home made, and full of flavour. It even had some festive roast chestnuts in it. A stunning lunch, and I think it was better than the meat option. With a good quality cheese board to finish I was happy with what was delivered, and I would order the Gnocchi again in a flash. Do It.

You will enjoy a very mouthwatering and exciting meal at Teign house inn. The food is exciting as the dishes are not only local, but recipes from far away countries that will tickle your taste buds. The menu changes regularly, always friendly service and never a long wait for your meal, never silly prices. the local ales and ciders are great, plus the wines highly drinkable, again not silly prices.

Went here for a birthday meal on a Monday lunchtime. It was very quiet and a little chilly but as usual the food was excellent! We had steak, tagliatelle and pad thai all of which were plentiful and tasty. The sweets were lovely and there was s good selection of beer. It was a bleak old day but there is a lovely garden for summers days!

This place is wonderful. Some of the best food in the valley with a nice, calm atmosphere and good selection of ales and ciders. The highlight of the visit was the exceptional bartender that made us feel welcome and well looked after. She was engaging and pleasant. Amazing place and worth a visit if you're in the area.

We have eaten at the Teign House Inn several times over the last few months, mostly having the delicious curries. The food is tasty and nicely presented and also available for take away. The last time we went I had the steak (from the specials menu) which was perfectly cooked. We'll definitely go back the next time we are in the area.

The Teign House looks ordinary from the outside, but inside is full of great food, choices and beers. Went here on Thursday night - not busy, between us we had a hanger steak, Breast of Pigeon and Venison and Pheasant Suet Pie. All were superbly presented, cooked to perfection and very tasty. Do not miss out on this little gem in the Teign Valley!

I can't understand why this place gets the high scores. Its overpriced (for what it is) and the landlord has as much charm as a fox in a henhouse. Probably because he didn't think that we were local.

There are some very good pubs nearby so this one may get overlooked. However the quality of the food is good and they do a thai menu alongside the traditional favourites. They also do takeaways.I had the beefburger and it was fantastic and the thai takeaway was very good. The service is a little on the 'relaxed' side and the pub was a bit cold but the food more thanb made up for it.

Great shame as i was so much looking forward to my meal this evening with family. Chose the Sizzling King Prawn with Rice. Tasty and a lot of sizzling, but only 4 King Prawns!? Maybe they had run out? Queried the distinct Prawn shortage and the waitress advised that the chef said there should be 7 and maybe they were cut up into pieces...so surely that should make more? She offered to bring out the missing 3 (which was very kind)!...but since everyone else had finished their meals, it would have really been a bit silly to sit and eat 3 lonely prawns on my own. Very poor value for £12!

Another great meal at Teign House. Fine dining at affordable prices. Every time we go it excels all expectations. Staropramen on tap, beautiful camping facilities for only £8 per night and the best food for miles. My wife had a hung steak which was done to perfection and I had the best squid I have ever eaten. Mussels from Teign river with cider cream. Yum yum! They have expanded their menu to include many exotic curries in Malaysian and Thai styles which I will be having next time we visit. Few places in the south west will offer such quality at such reasonable prices. £50 for a family of 3 including drinks and pud. They would be totally justified to put their prices up by 25% (please don't) it would still be well worth it. The chef came and asked us how our meal was and the service was great. Even our 2 year old's meal was top quality. I cant wait to go again. If you have not been to The Teign House Inn, Go!

Ate here last evening and was given a choice of tables, friendly efficient service. This was our third recent visit and they have all been as good. The Thai curry selection is excellent I've tried three different types, all delicious and very fresh tasting. My husband had fish and chips which was also fantastic, light and fluffy batter and gorgeous chips, homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas. Desserts equally tasty! In short try it!

Met up with two friends at this beautiful pub having never been there before. the setting is lovely and the pub is really easy to find, being just off the Christow Road. The staff were really friendly and happy to clarify anything off the menu. The specials board was great too. They have a good selection of thai food which two of us decided on; one had the sizzling beef, one the sizzling prawn - very yummy. The other had the rump steak with peppercorn steak which was a good size.Puddings were good two, we had the dark chocolate mousse with salted caramel and toffee popcorn and one had the icecream. Prices were extremely reasonable and we'll definitely be going again.Recommend you book during high season as we went late on a Friday and it was busy then.

We camped in the pub's field while in the area for the 'Abba Magic' show at the Sheldon Open Air Theatre (just up the road). We had a lovely evening meal in the Inn beforehand. Very impressed by the wide choice on the menu. Our meals were good value, arrived quickly and were excellent. Nice choice of beers too. Would recommend.

we stayed here for our honeymoon in 1976 and we lived in canada since 1982. just wanted to say thx to all the good reviews as it has encouraged us to revisit when we come back this summer. back then it was run by a gentleman who had recently retired as a chef in a large hotel in cheltenham, so the food was exceptional even then, see you soon and look forward to posting a newer review.

We had a delicious meal here, a Thai curry from the Asian menu and pork belly from the regular menu. It couldn't be faulted. The best food that we've eaten in the area for a long time. We were so pleasantly surprised as the pub looks at little rough around the edges on the outside, but the food was delicious, good sized portions and friendly service. We'll be back!

We nearly walked straight past this pub. We were heading for the Artichoke in Christow but realised that we wouldn't get there before they stopped serving food. The pub looks quite scruffy from the outside and we went in with really quite low expectations. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the standard of the food which was excellent. Our order for 8 consisted mainly of baguettes and sandwiches but the ingredients were top quality - rare roast beef, fresh local bread etc. Service was a little slow but the landlord was very attentive and we were so pleased that we stopped here!

Each time I've been here the food has been better than the time before- whether as a large party having a buffet or just popping in for a pudding it's always perfect with top notch staff.Ron and his team also ran the bar in a near by hall for my 21st and they gave us 1st class service! As a local I pass by every day and am always happy to pop in, see who's about and just chill out. A fantastic atmosphere and a fantastic experience. Highly recommended

Easy to find, being situated on the side of the main Teign Valley road at the crossroads between Christow and Doddiscombesleigh. Plenty to choose from the menu. Presented nicely and decent sized portions. A warm and comfortable bar in winter and masses of outdoor seating for dry summer days (if we get any). Several real ales to choose from but if you want the ultimate treat, try the local cider, made by the Landlord. It doesn't get any better than that. Pleasant staff and masses of parking

We visited this pub twice during a recent holiday in Devon, once for a drink and then for a lunchtime meal. The menu is more adventurous than most pubs with the chef obviously heavily influenced by Thai, Indonesian and Malaysian cuisine. The curries are delicious. As was the Lobster Thermidor (never seen that on a pub menu before!). Definitely recommended if you're in this area.

We turned up just after 6pm on a Saturday, which was a good job as the place started to fill up soon afterwards.A friendly welcome greeted us, and we sat for a glass of homegrown cider before we ordered our food. Teign House has an overall traditional pub charm, which is only increased by the friendliness of the staff. For the main course I chose a special off their board - a Beef, Mushroom and Guiness suet pudding, with chunky chips and vegetables and a shallot jus. Paula decided on their beef and pulled pork burger with cheese, fries and garnish. I have to say I don't remember having such a fantastic suet pudding - ever. It was just fantastic. Loads of beef filling, the suet perfectly judged. To find pub food of this quality is surely a find, and kudos to the kitchen for such a fine dish.Paula's burger was equally tasty, well-presented, and most satisfactory (she said!).Then, although we had probably eaten enough, we had to have their Eton Mess, made with clotted fudge. That really finished us off, but what a way to go.I have to say that my only disappointment is that the Teign House Inn isn't nearer to where we live, as it would be our first choice of pub eating, and also our choice of local.Textbook +++ and a solid 5 stars.

Can’t fault anything! The service was great and they were very welcoming. There were three of us in our party, and we all enjoyed what we ordered very much. So much so, if we lived closer, we’d definitely come again. I don’t eat puddings, but chose to have one, and glad I did, it was lovely. All three of us have left happy and full. It’s a lovely place, in a great setting, would recommend to anyone who is in the area.

We visited this for Sunday lunch as a family of 5. We booked a table in the morning and explained we had an Autistic teenager with us and they were more than happy to accommodate us. Even put us in a quieter area. We had 2 Adult carveries and 1 Child Carvery which were absolutely delicious. They even accommodated for my Autistic son who only wanted a plain burger and when the meal was delivered the member of staff placed the food near his tablet to try not to disturb him. All Staff was very friendly. Will definitely recommend to any friends or family that come to visit the area.

9 of us and a dog booked in for Sunday dinner as we had come down to visit. We first went here in 2014 it was nice then and lovely this time. The Sunday dinners were huge but sooo nice & the dog 🐶 had hers in a bowl at no extra charge and for a Staffordshire bull terrier she done the only thing ate it all with a smiley face.
