Tea & Bun in Plymouth

I’m on a mission to try every eatery in the market. This time it was Tea & Bun. I’ve wanted to try here for ages and it was honestly amazing. The place was packed which is obviously a really good sign! We had: •Fried pork gyoza with spicy Mayo •Aubergine with sesame miso •Chicken katsu with special tonkatsu sauce bao bun •Fried prawns with spicy Mayo bao bun. Everything is cooked fresh to order and was so tasty. The gyozas were some of the best I’ve tried and the aubergine miso flavours were incredible. Can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!

This place really does the best gyoza, bao buns, ribs and ramen in Plymouth as far as I'm concerned. Amazingly fresh food, really tasty and very good cost as well Highly recommended to any who love Japan/Korean foods.

Lovely friendly welcome from the happy smiling faces. Food was excellent, extremely tasty and freshly made to order. Staff were considerate and fun, everyone seemed to enjoy being there and their jobs as a team. Will definitely return

Go here often with friends it’s so lovely staff are absolutely wonderful and food and drink are to die for honestly would recommend to everyone it’s so worth going here especially if you like Japanese food!! I recommend peach oolong tea and the chicken ramen they have lots of options it’s quick and brilliant customer service Also they do takeaway which is brilliant in the summer sometimes I take ramen up to the hoe and it’s just the right temp to eat it by the time I get up there it’s not too hot by then!!

This is an authentic taste of the orient right in the gastro metropolis of Plymouth with high quality fresh ingredients. The friendly staff and plethora of menu choices makes it a firm favourite for my whole family.

Like any great restaurant they do a few things really well not lots of things really average. Having said that the options are amazing and varied. My family shared Bao buns, squid balls, ramen and Katsu, every single one was cooked perfectly, tasted incredible and filled you up. The staff were so friendly as well and take an interest in everyone, not just the regulars who I’m SURE they have here!

I cannot put into words how amazing this place is. My son and I visited yesterday for lunch and left with the feeling of experiencing one of the nicest meals we’ve ever had. The flavour of the soy ramen broth is exquisite, the slightly sweet yet deep pork flavour was a pure mouthful of pleasure. We will be back! Thank you! Xx

Great little place, did miss it when I walked past but glad I found it! Excellent pork ramen; delicate full flavoured broth with really juicy, tender pork. So filling I couldn’t eat anything else, although would have loved to try a Bao bun…..next time!

We love loved the food! The Ramen was excellent, so was the Korean wings and the squa ball! The food was to die for. We would definitely recommend to everyone and anyone. We will be back! 😍🤯😋👌❤️

Stopped by one evening for a quick bite. I went for the tofu Bibimbap (*which is a Korean rice bowl) which was well cooked and super tasty. It was fresh and service fast, with a smile. It is only very small inside so you may have to wait for a seat or get takeaway. There are also no toilet facilities when the market is closed - this would be my only complaint. But would love to try the other items on offer!

The food is just so good !!! Went with me and my sister for her little birthday meal and a nice day out. We had octupus balls, kimchi and fried chicken, Bao buns with chicken and kimchi, and peach oolong tea ! Just heaven 🫶🏻 Thank you to all the staff for making it wonderful ! Yum. From the first moment I tried the mushroom broth that comes with the soy ramen I knew that I had discovered something special. After 2 years it remains among the best food to eat I have found in the UK. My girlfriend and I have since tried ramen in London and Edinburgh and they don't come close. I have returned a number of times and the quality of the food has been remarkably consistently exceptional. Such amazing value for £7.50, I love it so much I would honestly pay double. A fantastic restaurant offering excellent food and Boba Tea. We love the Duck Bao Bubs and Gyoza in particular but everything we've eaten is delicious. Part of the Plymouth Market which has loads if great stalls to look around after.

This place may be small, but they are well organised and will do their best to get you a table. We had Gyoza, Bao Buns and bubble tea. All were tasty and just the right portions for a light lunch. Thoroughly recommended.

Primera vez en Plymouth y amante de Wagamama. ¡Pensé que le daría una oportunidad a este restaurante para apoyar a las empresas locales y desearía haber seguido mi costumbre! La comida tomó 1 hora (comenzó de 20 a 35 minutos), seguía diciéndome que la comida se estaba preparando y que el conductor la estaba esperando (a través de las actualizaciones de Deliveroo). Finalmente llegó la comida, los entrantes estaban fríos como la piedra y el curry Katsu estaba frío, por lo que las gambas “crujientes” se empaparon (posiblemente por estar demasiado tiempo en el restaurante). ¡No volveré a intentarlo tristemente!

Friendly, nice food. Bristol WokyKo and London Bao have the edge on here, but if your in Plymouth this is well worth a visit.

Visited in July 2020, currently only doing takeaway but there’s some little parks nearby to eat in. The gyoza and bao bins were delicious. The edamame and katsu curry were lush too, highly recommended.

After hearing some reviews and comments from friends and family members about this new venture I decided to bite the bullet and finally give it a try. With a simple but tasty menu, Tea and Bun blew my expectations out of the water with authenticity and deliciousness. Whilst prices initially seem expensive, the portion sizes are good and the service amazing.

I had the ribs, spicy wings and the special Plymouth ramen. Amazing food and good friendly service, next time I must have the buns as they look like the real deal.

Having tasted bubble tea in London and Kuala Lumpur, I was most disappointed with the one served at Tea and Bun. Very watery, filled with ice, not a lot of the black balls.On the plus side, the Chicken open rolls are scrumptious and very tasty.My friend had the Pork Ramen. The pork itself was nice, but the sauce wasn’t especially appealing.Staff were very polite and attentitive.Obviously an up and coming place with room for improvement. Need to see how these dishes/drinks should be done by visiting renowned ones.

This place is the kind of place you want to keep a secret. But they deserve huge success. Incredible Bao Buns, amazing Ramen - and gorgeous bubble tea. We've been twice and it's already our favorite place for weekend lunch.

Saw the menu outside and was tempted. Wasn’t disappointed, the service was friendly and the food was really tasty and fresh. Definitely worth another visit or three. Not a huge place though, we got a table right away, but you might have to wait.

From the minute you walk through the door you are welcomed with a warm friendly greeting. The professional service from the staff is refreshing. The food is well presented and hot is very tasty. I would recommend this cosy Japanese Ramen bar/cafe as a must-try.

I went with my mum and we had some noodles and some bao buns which were delicious. We were seated quickly despite how busy it was and the lady who served us was very sweet. The food was priced well. I will definitely be going again in the future!

Has not faltered since the first. We try to catch them just off peak because it is generally busy. Food seems to get better even though it was fantastic from day one.

Visited today with my partner for some lunch, very friendly and cheerful staff. The hirata buns were some of the best I've had and although I didn't have any this time, the ramen looked and smelled delicious and I'll definitely be coming back to try it. The bubble tea was also very good and everything was reasonably priced. Highly recommend!

Popped in and found a table ordered lovely food salmon in a bun with all the trimming - very fast fresh food healthy and flavoursome with some green tea. Clean quick and easy very reasonably priced - authentic and fun would recommend and will come again soon.

Very very delicious foods, friendly staffs. It is a good place to eat with the family, friends, even a couple. Tea n bun really has perfect Japanese foods or any Asian foods. And it is not that expensive.

This place is awesome and deserves, nay demands a full on revue. It only opens at lunchtime and is small on space but BIG on flavours! Don’t let its small size fool you, get in there for the best Vietnamese Street foods. And get in early or you may not get a table (you have been warned )

Loved this spot. Really intimate and was full of Japanese customers, always a good sign! Ordered the vegan mushroom ramen which was full of flavour and the fried prawn bao bun which was equally delicious. Wished I could’ve ordered more. There’s a few Japanese places along Plymouth market and I’ve not tried them but can definitely vouch that this is a good one.

If was one of those lunch times when you want hot food that's quick but no junk food. So I ordered a bun to take away from Tea and Bun. I had the fried prawns bun, which came with Asian salad and spicy mayo. That was so good, the prawns were fried into a patty, probably quite calorific but quite a treat !

Popped in for luch with my daughter. It's hidden away in the indoor market, in Cornwall st. Wonderful quick service. Interesting menu, I've never tried a steamed bun before, I had a vegan one with jackfruit. it was very tasty. I would definitely go again.

Having enjoyed many meals at @kitchen I thought it was time to try the ‘sister’ restaurant, Tea & Bun which opened a few months ago.

So once every week, myself and colleagues make sure we come here at least once. The food is pure pleasure for the pallet and it is honestly the best food I have eaten. I would go so far to say it is the best Japanese food from anywhere in the UK. It is fantastic, the atmosphere is charming, the staff and chef are the friendliest and kindest. It is one of those small hidden gems and I will always be coming back for more!

Firstly I LOVE the name, but refers to bubble tea and bao; Asian steamed buns. As with @kitchen on the mezzanine floor of the market it’s quite understated in design.

Worth noting that Pond & Co are taking the opportunity to have a decent holiday for the first time since the business began. The notice reminds loyal and enthusiastic customers that equally excellent @kitchen on the mezzanine floor above will be open on all days that the pannier market is open.

Visited for a quick lunch and had a large bowl of Mushroom Ramen. Lovely fresh ingredients, fantastic taste, with lots of lovely veg and tofu in it. I thought it was good value and really enjoyed slurping away (how Ramen ought to be enjoyed). It's a small place but an excellent addition to the Market and Independent Quarter.

Tried the tonkatsu ramen (pork noodle soup) and one of their steamed buns with fried chicken and kimchi mayo. Both delicious! The tonkatsu is the real deal; the stock tastes fresh and really tasty, and the pork was really soft and exactly how it should be - just wish I'd noticed the extra egg option on the menu before I ordered! The steamed bun - was great; bun was so soft and delicious, and the chicken and kimchi mayo combo was amazing (though not sure it's the sort of thing you would normally find in Korea?). Oh, they also do Vietnamese coffee which is a filter coffee with condensed milk - if you've never tried it before, give it a go! Will definitely be back!

This is about the eighth time I’ve visited in recent months, not counting the times I pop in for a takeaway bubble tea - which are to die for especially the lychee tea.

This place is better than their predecessor @kitchen. Lovely decor and a great atmosphere. It’s not the biggest place in the world but if you can get a seat you are in for a real treat. As with their other restaurant, the staff are clearly proud of their business and the food matches that pride. The sticky ribs are amazing! I would eat these until I burst! The duck steamed bun is delicious as well.

I’ve heard a lot about Tea & Bun so have been excited to give some of the food a try for ages now. I love Asian based food and this lovely little gem really quenches my appetite! It’s small, clean and was very busy when we visited.

Don’t be fooled by the London theme and go in demanding English Tea. This is a lovely place with quick and friendly service, clean tables and food that really warms the soul. Treated myself to a tasty Korean lunch one afternoon and I have nothing but praise for this restaurant. Perfect for light bites or a warm filling meal at reasonable prices from a different cuisine. Try the bubble tea if you haven’t before. I’m a sucker for it.

Discovered this place on Instagram and dragged my other half along to give it go. Wow I was not disappointed. The steamed buns are light and fluffy and the slaw adds lovely texture. The squid balls were light and very tasty. The sticky ribs were tasty and that sauce is to die for and I’m glad they had ran out of Gyoza or I would never have tried them. The bubble teas are a real sweet treat. Il be back to sample the ramen. Really don’t know how people queue out the door at KFC when you’ve got places like this round the corner!!! Gorgeous food!!

Our first visit - and it certainly won’t be our last! Lovely buns, and hot sticky ribs. Not a lot of seats, so shared a table with another couple, which added to the experience. Their Raman looked great, so will try that next time.

Having visited at least 4 times now, I thought it's about time I gave this place a review. After the success of @Kitchen, under the same ownership, it's no surprise this place is set to follow the same path! Every dish I've eaten here has been a sublime experience, with beautiful aromas and flavours. I'm a massive fan of the meat ramen and the pork belly variety definitely fills a hole on my weekly visits here! That said, my wife opts for the vegan ramen, which tastes just as good. The steamed buns are also definitely worth a try as they're literally a taste explosion! The staff are also extemely helpful and polite. Thank you guys!

On the edge of the pannier market this in a little gem - food cooked to order, hot, fresh and oh so tasty, and the bubble tea is mega refreshing. Definetly one you must try.

Although Bao (buns) have been trendy for a while; we hadn't managed to try them until grabbing a table at the Tea and Bun at Plymouth Market.

Popped in for lunch, the Char Sui pork steamed buns were absolutely delicious, in fact it all was, the gyoza and spicy minced pork lettuce wraps were all lovely and the green tea and mango bread bubble tea was very refreshing. Do yourself a favour and give it a try, I will certainly be back
