KuKu in Plymouth

When ordering I stated no to a certain ingredient because of an allergy. Food came out with said ingredient and we queried it. Food was swapped out with no fuss and wasn't charged. We took offence to the waiter that took the order coming over and stating that he didn't hear me even though he repeated it back to me at point of order. Then saying it's my fault for not telling them if an allergy....... But that's why I said no to something in the first place. Regardless food was fantastic and would 100% go back

Very friendly and professional Japanese restaurant in town. The guru platter for sharing is delicious 😋 with a mixture of Ryu, spicy maduro maki, samurai, salmon, sea bass, prawn & tuna Nigiri. All served with well cooked 🍳 🍚 rice.

Food is outstanding and the staff could not have been more attentive, in a positive way (i.e. not overpowering but helpful).

Excellent food, and some dishes I haven't seen before in a Japanese restaurant so thumbs up for that. Service and atmosphere were also both brilliant, would recommend this as one of the top places to go out for dinner in Plymouth.

Thankyou for a wonderful service today for both bar and table. Food and drink were amazing at my friends birthday lunch. As mentioned today to one of the waitresses, compliments to the chef for the food and compliments to the bar tender for the drinks. Much appreciated from us all who dined at Kuku today. Will be back again soon.

Fantastic Japanese restaurant, great service and atmosphere 👌

A gem and our favourite in Plymouth! We’ve visited a few times since finding it and are never disappointed. The food is delicious and comes out as it’s ready, made freshly to order. It’s so well balanced in flavours and although on the more expensive end, it’s definitely worth it. Service is brilliant and really attentive - staff are happy to recommend dishes if you’re not sure what to order (the duck spring rolls are a personal favourite). We generally opt for multiple plates to share which allows you to try different things. Even if you don’t think you’d find something you’d like it’s worth a visit as there probably is (it’s not just sushi!).

Wouldn’t be out of place in central London

Food is great and I've never had a bad dish there. Highly recommend the sushi sharing players and gyoza. Order everything as a "oner", don't do starters and main. Enjoy!

Our favourite Japanese restaurant - we have eaten out in special places all over the world, Kuku up there with the best of them. Service excellent and the food quality and flavours exceptional. If you have not tried - you are in for a big treat.

This is our go-to restaurant for a date night or special occasion. The food is always sublime. It is a little pricey but the food quality and presentation justifies it. The music used to be too loud, but it appeared to have been lowered the last time visited which was better as we could chat more easily.

Very fancy place for having good good shisha and fun. Staff was friendly and helpful. Di performance was excellent. Enjoyed a lot. Wide selection of food and drinks is amazing. Would definitely come back.

I actually came for the shisha - but also food is tasty, the drinks amazing without alcohol! But what I enjoyed the most to dance with the singer!

Lunch at Kuku followed by The Devil Wears Prada at the theatre. 😊 We always enjoy the food and service here and it’s only a five minute walk to the theatre, it’s also near the shops and central for Plymouth. We like edamame beans, Kuku prawns, duck spring rolls, crab and mango stack, sushi, tofu teriyaki, tempura veg and rice. The puddings are good too. Saturday lunch was nice and busy/buzzy atmosphere. Great restaurant, and a bit of a hidden gem if you don't know about it. I ate here with colleagues and clients to celebrate and was not disappointed, it's an absolute sushi-lovers dream. The waiting staff were extremely helpful, with plenty of advice relating to the menu and worth listening to when they recommend dishes. The food was divine and generously-sized portions, and, although very busy, we did not have to wait too long for it to arrive. The waitress didn't even blink when we added to our order mid-way through eating. First class food and first class service, highly recommend this place.

Amazing sashimi very fresh and tasty fishes 🤤😍

This was a fantastic meal. We were served by Daniel (“Przemek” from Poland). We were rushing a bit to get to the theatre and Daniel was so helpful. We had the vegan sharing menu and it was delicious. Many thanks indeed from us. We had a lovely evening. ☺️👍

Outstanding place, great service and the food was exceptional. I can’t praise this place enough, we only visited for the evening for work and the meal was sensational.

Once again, we wereclooked after superbly from the moment we entered until we left. The food was excellent and very tasty. The staff helped us with questions we had about certain dishes, which meant we all had dishes that we could eat and enjoy. We all thought the food was good value for the price paid. Once again, we have left, suitable sated. Thank you to all at KUKU.

What a place, amazing food...my wife's 35th b day and the best meal we've ever had. Special mention to dan the waiter....he chose our menu tonight and made sure we had the most popular dishes. If you are struggling to know what to have ask the staff as they will make sure you have a lovely meal.

Had a lovely, relaxed evening meal at KUKU. The portion sizes are fantastic, and very tasty. The staff seemed a little stressed when we initially went in, which is understandable as the place was packed., but were still very helpful and polite. We booked ahead by phone, which was worth doing as the website said there was no openings until 2045, but on the phone they were able to get myself and my wife in at the sushi bar area (totally fine, actually preferable to a table for the experience) much earlier. Food is dispatched as and when its ready, so don't expect to have everything arrive at once for your party. This is the way in a lot of sushi/oriental fusion places though, so was expected and everything we ordered came very quickly and was presented fantastically. We were very impressed, and will certainly be back again when we have another child-free night!

I love Kuku. The service is always fast and pretty attentive, never have to wait long for food or drinks and always nice staff. The food itself is fabulous. Maybe not classic sushi but very much comfort food of the highest order. Always delicious and always look forward to coming back

Someone recommended KuKu and whilst we hadn't booked we were able to sit at the Sushi Bar. Very busy restaurant, with stylish decor and friendly, attentive staff. The food was delicious, lots of flavour, and served quickly given the number of people ordering. The waiter suggested we try different dishes, which was a good shout as we shared everything. Highly recommend this Japanese restaurant and would return.

One of the best meals I've had in a long time, portion size were good, taste was amazing and price was reasonable, great service and a lovely atmosphere.

Tasting menu was fantastic, so much food and the service was excellent. Highly recommend. The staff are friendly and helpful. It’s not a quiet restaurant but it adds to the experience.

I was a bit disappointed with my meal here a few weeks ago. Staff were really friendly and sushi was quite good but a lot of over-sweet sauces and generally wasn't as high quality as I was expecting for the price (£60 each 1 alcoholic drink). The vibe was also quite party party (loud music) - so maybe good if you want somewhere fun and you are into sushi (it is v popular and was packed), but I think I prefer a more authentic vibe.

I love this place. The food is epic and the service is perfect. Attentive but not intrusive. Sadly only had the chance to go twice but somewhere I will always go when I visit Plymouth

A fabulous clean and smart restaurant, started with the king prawns and was blown away by the flavours, followed this with a crunchy duck dish, mmmmm, the portions were so generous I couldn't manage anymore. Will definitely return.

Simply stunning. Always a pleasure every visit we come. Over 5 times and always consistent and brilliance shines! Hospitable staff from arrival to departure. Food is always unbelievable, and even if we don’t like something, there has been immediate response to rectify any such (very rare) situations. Love love love!!

Stunning food, ambience and service as always

It took the staff 20 mins to take our order, when someone finally came over to take the order they said “is that it, that wont be enough” bear in mind we ordered 3 staters, 3 types of sushi and tokyo seabass. The staff were rude and seems like they don't want to be there. I would recommend they employ some friendly staff which would make the experience better. The food was great, i cant complain. We asked for the bill and this took them 15 mins to bring.

3rd visit here over a number of years. Never disappoints. We had the non sushi tasting menu. The food was delicious. I normally get full up quite quickly which can spoil a meal, but these were perfect portions and such a variety, it made me want to keep on eating. Service was very good also. The only downside was the ladies toilets…….Hand dryer not working, bin overflowing onto floor, cobwebs and generally needed a revamp. They weren’t at all in keeping with the remainder of the restaurant unfortunately.

Came here with a group of friends. It’s a good place to go for lots of sharing dishes. There is a wide variety of foods including suitable food for vegans. Lovely atmosphere and staff. Highly recommended

Delightful asian fusion food with excellemt service.

Had a great time here for my 21st birthday. The special teriyaki today and tempura was amazing! Excellent plating of all the dishes and a very unique dining experience

Been numerous times over the years and we have never come away disappointed. Amazing food (the miso soup is the best I've ever had) and the service is always exemplary - nothing is too much trouble and everyone is very polite. We would definitely recommend the tasting menu to any bigger group - it's such a unique experience and fun to try so many different dishes.

Great food , very good service would defo go again

This place never disappoints, on the service or the food and drink. Went twice in a matter of weeks, once with family and once with friends. Both times it was a culinary delight. Consistent with the quality of their food always.

Another fabulous visit to Kuku. Martin our server was amazing. He was so knowledgable about the menu and was able to talk us through everything as well as enthusiastically recommend menu items. 100% worth a visit if you get the chance!

BEWARE GLUTEN FREE We went as a group of six and the whole experience was on the whole a positive one. Very busy, but staff were attentive and food prompt and tasty. I was the only Gluten Free person and I follow a strict diet so ordered from the specific menu. Somewhere along the way I must have been served the wrong food, all I can imagine happened was 3 of us ordered the same meal and my gluten free battered items were put on one of their plates instead of mine as they all looked the same. Fast forward 7 hours and I had a very poorly night (no details necessary 🤢). As a result I'm afraid I can't go back, but for those who don't have to do careful the food is lovely!

Great quality food and fantastic service. Would highly recommend. We mentioned in conversation with the waiter one of my daughter had been for an interview and it was the others birthday and they made desert very special with personalised messages. Amazing. Thank you

First time at Kuku - we were sat down right away and given an explanation of the menu. Service was super friendly, these guys are very attentive. We ordered the vegan maki platter which was just ridiculously good, we loved that our waiter explained to us briefly what was on the platter, he seemed quite passionate about the food himself which was great. The raspberry kombucha is probably the best non alcoholic thing I've ever drank in my life (my partner agreed). We also had cauliflower katsu (also amazing) and teriyaki tofu which was again, simply amazing. Food was an absolute 5/5 - the only small criticism I have is that the atmosphere was a little uneasy - it was a packed restaurant full of good vibes but the staff seemed quite rushed and anxious at times trying to keep up with the flow of people (I totally get it though - no judgments here). If the staff were just a little more 'zen' this place would quite literally, perfect. We are definitely coming back!

Well what a great surprise to stumble across this. Pre theatre meal with my daughter. Food superb, service really superb, decor attractive and spotless. ( toilets need some revamping) All in all a great experience.

Very beautiful and very large restaurant! We were quickly served to say that the establishment seemed packed (around thirty minutes, very correct and proves the freshness of the products 😉). The sushi was to die for and going to Japan, I'm pretty picky! Very well presented dishes and prices are affordable. The staff is also very caring. We were able to take our dog with us after calling before booking (I recommend going through this step because the restaurant seems to assess on a case by case basis whether the dog is accepted which was normal for us given the standard of the establishment ). However, I do not recommend taking your little one with you because there is a lot of noise and it did not seem pleasant for our dog and was not pleasant for me either. Apart from this small detail, everything was great!

Great food but music was unbearably loud. We could not hear each other speak at our table. More like a club.

A bit too loud around the tables, fried noodles r not too much of the Japanese style. But overall a good experience.

Our first time there,we were recommended by a friend. The food was superb. I was a little apprehensive about the food. How wrong was I. Vast choice,excelently cooked,very good flavours. Price was very competitive. No complaints at all. Highly recommend to everyone.

Beautifully presented delicious food.

We arrived at Kuku's as a walk-in party of three and were seated at the sushi bar, which in our opinion was the best seat of the house. We had an amazing time watching the chefs prepare food whilst enjoying our incredibly nice sashimi and rolls. Definitely ask for the chef's special; the red dragon packs some sriracha, but is definitely a treat. The friendly accommodating staff, amazing chefs and their simply stunning food definitely will make us return to Kuku when we'll be in town.

Visited with people who had already been and experienced this amazing place and it was fabulous. The building itself is stunning and we had a drink in the bar first getting comfortable of the sofa's. We ordered a selection of different starters to share and as the food is freshly cooked it was brought out as it was ready and was such a great experience then we all had our own mains. The presentation was wonderful and the atmosphere was great and got busier as the night went on. The service was amazing, the staff knowledgeable and friendly and tried sushi for the first time, I'm a convert. Thank you for this new experience :-)

Food was incredible yet again. The staff were attentive and friendly. It was really busy (as it should be when it's this great) but there wasn't much of a delay on the food or being served at all. The only negative is that their card machines don't have a gratuity/tip button so it's impossible to show our appreciation. The only time I've had cash on me in the last 3 years was when I was about to put it in a birthday card!

Fantastic restaurant, superb food, relaxed ambiance, autism friendly. We were a family of six, three adults & three children. We were very impressed by the standards of food, service & cleanliness. Definitely going to go back.

Amazing food and cocktails. Best sushi I have ever eaten!

Service seemed a little disorganised. We were advised when we ordered that we would receive dishes at different times, depending on when they were ready. I understand that's the way they do it but 2 of the dishes we ordered (appetizers) didn't arrive until 2 hours after we ordered them and followed up with staff regarding them I felt like there was a lot of staff on but I'm not really sure what they were doing because we got left alone for very long periods of time. Drinks that we requested only turned up after we reminded them, and when the guy in charge realised we weren't happy with the service we received he wasn't apologetic. It kind of seemed like he knew we weren't happy and instead of finding a way to ensure we went away happy he just gave up. It's worth mentioning we spent over £200 and we did leave with the feeling that we were valued customers. I think the manager was glad to see the back of us. I would also like to say that we didn't complain and we didn't cause a fuss. Just that we mentioned that we waited a very long time I do have to say though that the food was very nice. We all enjoyed what we had but the service let it down . There are other places I would prefer to go in the future.
