Extremely atmospheric, great whole-food, outstanding range of teas. Pure magic. Difficult to find up the wee lane off Otago Street but well worth any effort.

This is a joke of place, they have no tea leaf clue how to make tea. Order Russian Caravan tea, it took a long time for order to arrive, wonder if they gone to pick the tea! The tea arrive with no loose tea, just water in which had previously see some brief exposure to tea. The cup was the wrong size, no tea strainer and tea pot had been through the wars! Lastly the oat milk tasted more like soya milk.

A quirky alternative interior which offers the most exceptional range of leaf teas. There is a limited selection of home made food - the chickpea curry was tasty although it would be better with rice than pitta bread. Great for a tea lover who appreciates an unusual experience.

Its a quirky little place with a nice atmosphere, I'm sure it's heaving when students are in term, but it was quiet when we visited. We had the tea of the month and a slice of carrot cake, both the tea and the cake were excellent.

We had four different pots of tea and we were all happy with our choices. My yogi chai was amazing maybe too sweet for some (not me) but perfectly seasoned. The choice of teas is a little overwhelming but luckily we were not rushed to choose. A wonderful place to relax and chat over a cuppa.

I’ve been going to Tchai Ovna on and off since 2016 and it’s been a consistently snug and friendly atmosphere. They’ve had to change it up a bit to make it covid safe but the place has maintained it’s charm, and I would argue it’s better now since they recently have an outside bit on a lovely wooden deck that looks on to lots of luscious green. In so many places one feels rushed to eat, drink and leave for the next customers, but in Tchai Ovna I’ve never felt that, it provides the chilled atmosphere that’s perfect to study, read a book or play chess and what not. There is such a varied and vast amount of teas to choose from but if you just need a caffeinated coffee, fear not. They do that too (I would suggest the Turkish coffee).

Visited with friends who had all been here before, i'll confess now I'm not a tea drinker nor am I a vegetarian however the lack of effort here is the main issue with this place. We ordered food and drinks, the food arrived pretty quickly not difficult to see why as the general lack of effort with the food is simply amazing. A bowl of tasteless olives (how you can even do olives badly is beyond me), cheese and crackers is literally that, supermarket cheddar sliced with a pot of branston pickle! The teas arrived about 20 mins after the food had, they were very nice but come on, its wasn't exactly busy and its pretty standard to give you your drinks before the food arrives. A bit of attention to detail and a massive improvement in the quality and effort of the food and this place could be great, sadly this visit wasn't.

An enormous letdown. To be completely fair the yogi chai is great. But the other teas on the menu are horrific. The chamomile was stale god knows how long it was there and the Gen Mai cha was somehow oily? The food is microwaved rubbish and the bread is so dense and chewy it tastes as though it’s been frozen. The prices for the food are also extortionate for what you get.The shop itself is filthy. Looks as though it hasn’t been cleaned properly for yearsThis place used to be great I don’t know what happens but I don’t think I’ll be back. Wouldn’t recommend

Let's start with the positives. The Yogi Chai tea is AMAZING. It is a very unique venue - it seems to attract a lot of academic and creative audiences - the vibe is different, relaxed and enjoyable. I have been to the cafe a few times, and I will continue on returning. The not-so-positives. The first one is the service. Even though the staff promise to take the orders when seated, it is a good idea to simply order at the bar. On my first visit, I waited 30 minutes before ordering it myself. The requested water was forgotten. There were a few staff members, and it certainly was not busy. Secondly, why are customers asked to buzz, if no one greets them at the entry - we are simply asked to come in?Thirdly, some prices. Sorry, but it is hard to justify, for example, a £2.70 Uber bar. In Roots & Fruits it costs £1.60 or so. (And we know that shop is not the cheapest!)Then, no wi-fi available. Lastly, I am not sure how fresh the food is. When a curry was ordered, I could hear the microwave being very busy - I wonder if the meals are cooked days in advance or defrosted. I doubt I will order the food there again.

My friend and I called for a Healthy Boy sandwich each. When our food was served, I immediately knew the bread was old. I waited to see if my friend thought the same thing — indeed she did. It was obvious the bread was days old. Shocked, I told the staff who weren’t at all surprised. They never apologised and only remarked about sourdough bread being “too dense”, which was insulting because they obviously thought we were idiotic and imagined they could get away with it. With no shortage of amazing places to go I for one am never returning to Tchai Ovna to have God knows how many days old bread thrown in my face.

Tchai-ovna has always been one of my favourite spots in Glasgow. If you like your cafes cosy, relaxed and a little bohemian - this is the place for you. I really can't think of anywhere else like it - of course the range of teas is impressive / unrivalled ('Yogi chai' is the stuff of local legend, but there's plenty in the extensive menu to please everyone - even coffee!) but the thing that has me coming back is the sense of Tchai-ovna being a place of community. It feels very homely.Right now everything is obviously affected by covid but it seems the staff / management are doing they can to keep things running as safely & simply as possible. Keep up the good work guys, we need you!!

I have been a regular customer of Tchai-Ovna, on and off, for most of the last 15 years. I've seen it undero many changes, yet there has remained a relaxed atmosphere and a real sense of home. I was elated when it re-opened after lockdown, but wondered how they would deal with social distancing. What I found when I went was that they had completely renovated for Covid-safety. The need to pre-book is annoying, but can't be helped in the circumstances. Screens have been erected to split the space into appropriately distanced compartments, the corridor and staff area at the back are now all part of the kitchen, and a new door has been put on the toilet, positioned to minimise queuing. The amount of work and thought that has gone into this is very impressive. I feel totally safe there, and often bring my wife and wee girl. It should surprise no one that they passed their Covid inspection with flying colours. They have risen to the challenge of safely managing their space quite brilliantly... and yet in every way that counts, it's the same old Tchai, with its friendly staff, its brass elephants, its unique living-room vibe, its awesome variety of different teas, and its high-quality vegetarian food, all at reasonable prices. Life is hard. We need Tchai!

¡No volveremos!

A potentially overwhelming selection of loose leaf teas helpfully split into different categories- give yourself plenty of time to choose! Prices are reasonable, particularly when you consider it's for a pot. There's also a small food menu, which I have not been disappointed by so far. It's worth noting that you go to the kitchen to order, there are signs up saying so but just a heads up.

Popped in for a drink and meal. The place was filled with woollen jumpers, skinny jeans and the usual 'hipster' 'artsy' 'non-mainstream' west end crowd. The teas were quite extortionate as tea's usually considered one of the cheaper luxury products in this world, however, at a mere £5 a pot I gave it a go. The food was some kind of fusion, organic deal that seemed to be Mediterranean and British Indian style as there were olives and curries on offer. I ordered a plate of dolmades. The tea took a solid 45 minutes to arrive. This could be the style of this place as the other, younger studenty customers didn't seem to mind this and nothing seemed out of the ordinary amongst them. However, for me this was a shock as I have a job and not all day to lounge around a dingy café. I never received the dolmades as I simply left a fiver on the table and walked out at the hour mark. Perhaps more focus should be put on service rather than the staffs appearance? It seems to focus on looks over quality of food. The tea was just tea and that's all that can be said for it. Okay but not worth the wait.

Not cheap but there's definitely some interesting ones that you wouldn't find elsewhere.Tea:Tried the chai - it's like a chai latte but less sweet and spicier.Food:Most items on their menu are a bit spicy. I had the lentil curry which they said was probably the least spicy item on the menu - I'm very sensitive and found it to be quite spicy (edible though). Big portion, comes with a type of bread, very filling.

If you are looking for a great selection of teas here you are. Lots and lots of choices, coming from a lot of countries. The place is amazing, it has a quiet and cosy atmosphere that you would like to never have to leave. The only negative point was the selection of pastries that was a little bit poor and it seemed that my cake (chocolate, vegan) had been stocked in the fridge for too long. Apart from that, it is totally worth it!

This is one amazing tearoom down a quaint little street. This little place offers a very soothing and relaxing atmosphere with occasional live music being played. The entrance is quite simple and warm. It has a set of mismatched furniture and decor which seems ethnic and eccentric both. The tearoom buddies who are there prepare delicious tea and meals and have traveled over the globe to bring together a world of tea at one place. There menu shares little pieces of information about the different types of tea they serve. I suggest trying the lemongrass tea which when brewed fills the entire room with fresh lemongrass aroma. The ambiance is so warm and lively. It is a perfect escape from the daily hustle bustle of life.

My vegan daughter that lives in Glasgow took me here when I was visiting. It is down a quaint little street and inside it is very calm and relaxing with a hipster vibe. The tea here is great and the vegan chocolate cake is the best vegan cake i have tasted. Would definitely go again.

When I walked in the atmosphere was so lively and intimate I thought it was someone's back room! The place was filled with quaint mismatched furniture and wonderful smells of all kinds of teas! This is the sort of cafe where people share tables and that's really lovely. I ordered my food and tea and despite the cafe being really busy, service was really fast. The meal was possibly too large (Dhal and pitta bread) but was full of flavour and I enjoyed it. And the tea was amazing! I definitely recommend this place:)

Don't miss it!!

I took my vegan son here for lunch. First impressions were that it was a very relaxed, shabby chic/hippy vibe kind of place. It wasn't immediately obvious where the menus were - they are kept on a shelf near the kitchen rather than on the tables.Amazing selection of teas and a really interesting menu. I had dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) which were very good - the portion size was much larger than I'd anticipated, which makes a nice change! Not a place to come to if you're in a hurry and just want a quick bite to eat, more somewhere to relax and take your time.

Went here after reading about tea selection that they had. It was difficult to find place at night as not native to Glasgow. However once we got inside it was very shabby chic. Genuinely shabby but perfectly welcoming and cosy. Food looked good we had the carrot cake and Turkish delight. Very good. Huge selection of tea. Books to read. Board games on offer. You could spend all day here without any problem. We will return. A great place.

Lovely lunch spent catching up with our vegan friends. The food was awesome as was the tea. Everything is very reasonably priced and the quality and flavours superb. Luckily there was 4 of us so we shared 5 dishes between us and had an nice variety. The beetroot and ginger soup was to die for and was on the specials board. I hope it becomes a feature in the menu when we return.

I love Tchai Ovna and have been coming here for years since I was a student. They have a great range of teas and a nice selection of veggie foods. I would strongly recommend the chai if you have a bit of a cold as it works wonders. This said, Tchai Ovna has a very hippy vibe and if you aren't someone keen on mismatched, wobbly furniture and slow service, this is not for you. Lunchtimes can be very slow if you catch the tail end of the rush. The lane on which Tchai Ovna sits is one of the last bastions of the West End as it used to be when I was a student, and I'm glad to see it surviving. I will continue to visit for as long as it remains open and a thorny reminder to the crass developers who wanted to see it torn down.

What I love about this place is that it's simple and cosy - it's like being in your own home. It has the biggest selection of teas and what I really find amazing is that it's menu explains the origins of each tea and how it's made. It also has some really good vegan options. I would recommend the Yogi Yogie tea and the carrot cake.

We met up with some vegetarian relatives at this place and enjoyed their selection of tea with a Mediterranean platter of dolma, felafel, baba ganoush, humus, pita bread with olives and salad. It was an acceptable offering. The felafel, humus and baba ganoush are interesting versions of food but these does not resemble any authentic dishes from the middle eastern countries. Humus and baba ganoush could do with tahini and olive oil.

I've been coming here for years whenever I need to feel comforted, and it never disappoints - lovely food, a great atmosphere, my favourite tea ever (honey spice) and an eclectic mix of music. Well worth a visit if you're about and need to chill out.

After having spent and hour and the better part of £100 in Voltaire and Rousseau next door. We popped into this little bohemian gem of a place. Being a couple of eccentrics this place and it's chilled out atmosphere is right up our street. We had Darjeeling Oolong and Pu Erh for our first cup and for our second we had Yogi Yogi Chai Masala and Faerie's Blood. We didn't sample food on this trip because we had a table booked in the centre of town. However we will most definitely be returning and spending more time eating and drinking and buying books next door. A treasure of a place. Highly recommend.

On a cold Glasgow day this place was a slice of heaven. Extensive selection of teas, and a good selection of vegetarian food (not sampled on this trip) Its a place suited to my taste - a studenty bohemian decor and furnishing. If its posh your after - it might disappoint. Interesting that the crowd was mostly young, not on their mobile devices - but talking and interacting, or reading books. Most recommended to normal humans and i am looking forward to the next visit

Tea menu is really extensive, but the tea we ordered was nothing more than bog standard (way over brewed) loose Sencha Green tea. Decor is basic and resembles an old lady's house that's been abandoned for some time. Still, it was warm and relaxed which was nice. They don't really do food which would make you think the tea would be fantastic as it's all they really offer... sadly not. We waited almost 40 minutes for two pots of tea to arrive (it wasn't very busy) and when they did they did not taste as they should and one was actually undrinkable because it was so over brewed. Really over priced for what you get. Best thing about the place was the resident cat.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Although the street outside was dead, the tea house was full. There are too many tables there for the space. Two tables had to move so we could get to and fro our seats to make our order at the kitchen etc. There was little air flow here and my husband's nose was irritated by the atmosphere and didn't stop running whilst here. We ordered drinks and was impressed by the variety. We like that board games and books were available for customers. Prices are reasonable and we opted for a pot of tea each, but these are big pots, and we wished we shared. especially as a hot water refill was included in the price.

Perfect place to grab a bite of vegan food and with a menu of 40+ teas, it gives you the excuse to visit through a life time to try every one!Fab chilled setting and staff, if service a bit slow. But hey ho! Still fab!

Tchai Ovna is a hidden gem in the west end area of Glasgow, a little bit off Gibson Street. It has a unique feel which is really hard to describe. As soon you enter the wee Otago Lane, you get this sort of retro atmosphere. It doesn't feel like you're in Glasgow anymore. When you enter Tchai Ovna, you feel like you entered a cosy and somewhat quirky home. A cat is sleeping on a comfortable sofa. As you walk further in, there is a sort of Arabian booth with people, sitting as snug as a bug in a rug, drinking spicy teas, and eating baklava. What's not to love about it? It is so original and authentic. The staff are lovely and they will take their time to guide you through their extensive tea list. My recommendation: have the yogi yoigi chai. It's their signature tea and it is wonderful.

Easily the best coffee in Glasgow. Actually, the best, most coffee-y coffee I've ever had. My partner is a coffee aficionado and we are always on a mission to get a great cup of coffee on our travels and at home, and this is a place we can heartily recommend.
