This restaurant is keeping the garden centre going but not for long unless they improve the food quality,we ordered a bacon roll and a sausage in a roll , the sausage arrived in a sandwich for some reason and we sent it back, both meals were cold,it would seem that the fillings were not cooked to order and were just spare food left to one side waiting to be sold ,otherwise it would have been hot.give your kitchen staff more food quality training.

Lunch was a choice of main meal with a ‘free’ desert. Neither of the deserts were GF so I asked if I could have one of the deserts which were GF. After asking the manager, the lady told me ‘ you can but you will have to pay for it. I said I was happy with a flapjack but was again told no…so I asked if I could have a reduction if I didn’t have the ‘free desert’ I wasn’t able to eat. Again I was told no. The main meals were cold… and sparse… the waitress carried them out with a cloth telling us to be beware the ‘very hot’ plates… which were stone cold. What a shame that the manager wasn’t more flexible… customer friendly… or a better manager. We will NOT be returning and have advised others to avoid at all costs

I was reluctant to have lunch here but took a chance on the Sunday carvery. it was actually better than I had expected having being previously disappointed by the food here. The roast turkey, roast potatoes and vegetables were ok, it's just the dated decor and uninspiring location that let it down.

Homemade sausage rolls, pasties and vegetarian.Homemade sponges and such like. Food doesn't need to be symmetrical to look appealing, the same mass production gateux in hundreds of cafes.Having pies and treats made individually, and knowing that they are homemade there's nothing like.Parsnip soup was excellent,as was the pasty and lasagne.Only criticism was tables not cleared. We have popped into Marigolds for many years, but unfortunately if has really not changed. The servers can be quite surly at times, and the choice of food is adequate quality but very old fashioned. When you see what competitors like Bawdeswell and Notcutts have done it really does make Taverham look very 20th century. We don't bother going there any more. Time for an update.

We were meeting friends for lunch, but turned out to be not very pleasant. The meals were very haphazard in being delivered, in fact had to be asked whether 2 of the meals had been forgotten about. My meal which was Chili, the rice was not fluffy as should have been but congealed into rice balls, not very appertizing. Sitting opposite the 'fire-doors', people were exiting to sit outside, but could not shut the doors behind them, so continually getting up to close these doors, as quite a draught was created. Not appropriate doors for regular use. A member of staff quoted 'they did not know whether they were coming or going', Will not be returning for food.

Well what can I say ? My wife and I enjoyed the garden centre but as for the food , that was a different matter . I had a bacon sandwich that basically resembled two napkins and a shoe sole . Perhaps with slightly less taste . My wife's chicken and bacon sandwich was also completely tasteless , the bread was dry and the margarine was way too overpowering . On the plus side the tea was ok . I think we'll take our own pack up next time and save the money . Shame really that the restaurant doesn't live up to the quality of the rest of the centre . Come on guys you've had enough poor reviews isn't it about time you did something about it ?

This is a very dated tea room, a bit like a 1980’s school canteen. I like the fact they have plenty of table and chairs and there’s lots of room to sit and feel like you can take your time to have a coffee and a natter. Sadly the counter area is very dated and I never feel there is much on offer in the cake range.....I don’t want to be mean as the staff are always nice but it’s just rather dated and feels like it needs a good over-hall.

So me my husband and mother in law decided to visit Taverham Nursery because we hadn’t been their in a while. When we got their we went straight for a coffee and a cake. The staff in the cafe were lovely - very helpful and all friendly. The coffee and cake was abit pricy though. After our little stop we ventured around the garden centre. Our main point of visiting was to get more fish but we thought we would have a look around while we were their. As we wondered around we noticed that everything was so so so overpriced for what you got.

I haven't been here for a number of years, but at one time would visit quite regularly. However, I'm sorry to say, I won't be rushing back. The main area was very sparse, admittedly it may be in a transitional stage after Christmas, but there were big trolleys just abanded in the middle of the floor, lots of display units were practically empty and the whole place just had a really unkempt feel to it. We decided to go for a coffee. Bad move. There was no guidance as to where to queue, nobody knew where to go, for food or just drinks.... There were lots of staff just hovering in what looked like the kitchen doorway, but nobody serving, and the place was very cold. What a shame.

I was going to go for lunch with my mum and daughter but on looking at the fare on offer it was the same old same old ,reheated leftovers ,badly presented . One look at the soup was enough to put my mother off,she is an ex cook, This place needs dragging into the present day ,there are so many good budget eateries available nearby I am surprised anyone goes here anymore and pays the prices asked for this appalling food. A complete overhaul of menu, presentation and the way the food comes out would be a good start ,maybe begin with a new kitchen manager .

We travelled from Ipswich to visit the garden centre. On arriving we decided to eat first. Lots of space to manoeuvre my mum in her wheelchair & clean spare tables in the restaurant. My husband really enjoyed his cottage pie, my mum had the fish & chips. My lasagne & salad was ok but only just warm & pretty bland. Could have done with some garlic bread/chunk of bread to make it more filling. We enjoyed looking around the nursery & the outlets. We had a nice cuppa at the little coffee shop in the square of outlets. I bought a pretty bag at the lovely friendly boutique near the framing shop. Such nice ladies! However, I was most upset at the welcome.....or lack of!!!!....in the boutique next to the sweet shop!! I took my 92 year old mum into the shop in her wheelchair. We were the only people in there. There was a lady ( the owner I guess) sat at a table. No greeting! As I wheeled my mum through the centre of two metal clothes rails, the brake on the wheelchair just caught one of the rail bottoms & slightly moved it. The glare I received from this lady was awful! I apologised but I continued to endure her unkind, steely, cold, silent stare! I was quite shocked to be honest having never received this kind of reaction. The notice on the window says "you're welcome to come in & browse"! There was no welcome at all!! As anyone in charge of a wheelchair will tell you, they are not easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces! On hindsight I wish I had said something! Needless to say, we made our exit without purchasing! However! Whinges set aside!!! We will be back to the nursery, maybe at Christmas time.

This is the cafe within the Taverham Garden Centre. We are frequent visitors to (and spenders at!) this excellent garden centre with its large stock aznd knowledgeable staff. But it's a while since we last visited Magnolia's - because we live so close. Well, why not give it a try for morning coffee. The coffee was good served in decent-sized (ie not too big) mugs. The cheese scones had a nice flavour but the crust was hard (I thought it might explode as I forced my knife through it) and the interior a little doughy (perhaps the oven hadn't been hot enough?). 5/10 on the Jarrold Scone Scale (regular readers of my reviews know what this means). Quiet on this Tuesday morning, I know from observation how popular Magnolia's is. So it is clearly doing something right - or is it the captive market of the coach parties that visit? Staff are friendly but the price of a coffee and scone is high for the area, especially with the quality of the scone. There is an impressive notice that all meat (hopefully including the sausages they serve for breakfast) comes from local butcher Fiddy. A shame that a locally-owned business (local independent enterprises are something I always strive to support) can't strive to do a little better.

Had a look at some oak furniture for te lounge as we were leaving, discussed it later that day and rang the next morning to enquire. My partner and I called in here for a cup of tea and a snack. We didn't want hot food so I cannot comment on that side but the cakes etc looked inviting, I went for the fruit scone while my partner went for the cheese scone, initially they looked a little over cooked. We ordered Earl Grey tea for 2 and were given 2 pots, one with tea and one with boiled water so was impressed with that as you normally only get the pot and if you want to top up the cup you get rather strong tea. Although we were served straight away it wasn't an inviting welcome, like when someone would rather be doing something else.We paid and found a table, to me the scone was dry and claggy in the mouth, so I had to smother it in butter, no I opted for not having jam. Before we continued our journey we needed to visit the 'rest' room, this is where I normally rate any food establishment and here I would have given them less than the 2 stars, the floor was wet and is wasn't because they had just been washed! my partner also commented on the female toilets when she came out.Although it is somewhere out of Norwich on the way home to have a cuppa and relief stop I think I will be finding somewhere else in future.

The Nursery is spread out with different businesses at the back. Very difficult to get to in the rain. The restaurant is very basic, the drink we had was okay but the service was very poor. The Christmas section is very good. We may return in better weather.

The Marigold Restaurant is grey in colour, with grey tables walls and carpet which reflects beautifully the very grey uninspiring food and customer service. Who still serves filter coffee? It was sitting in a jug which tasted old and bitter. There was nothing fresh about anything. Staff we standing about chatting to each other and the mature waitress made us feel at 2.15 we were imposing on her by interrupting her break. Shall not be going back. So if you have walked the Marott Way as we had then go beyond the garden centre building around the back and eat at the cafe in the little precinct,

Ample parking, disabled access, restaurant, indoor plant and aquatic area. Don't like the fact that you have to walk half a mile to the other end of the building to get out!Drive, rather than walking around to the rear where you'll find a multitude of places to shop, again with adequate parking. This place is ideal for coach parties as well.

Lots of different things to see and buy in here, everything seems to be reasonable value. I'd like to see what they produce at Christmas time. It's worth a good explore around the area as there is a fabulous craft and sewing shop and an excellent cook shop too.We also purchased meat from the farm shop which were about to eat!!

Basic cafe, ok for a coffee, don't bother with food. My breakfast was greasy overcooked and had been kept warm for much too long.

We decided to try the restaurant again yesterday after a gap of 2 years, a big mistake. We ordered 'home made' vegetable soup. The soup was abysmal. How can something so simple taste so awful. It must have been a chemistry set of vegetable stock cubes, canned soup, packet soup and some leftover vegetables. The worst soup we've had in years. I can still taste it 18 hours later. This restaurant should be a gold mine, although it probably is at that price, £12.20 for 2 bowls of soup and a pot of tea for 2. The only saving grace was that the service was pleasant. My biggest regret was that I didn't take the soup back, I did the typical British thing and ate it in silence. We won't be back. This is the first time I have reviewed a restaurant, I wish that I had read trip advisor yesterday before my visit, it's heartening to read that other people have had the same problem.

How can a café in a popular garden centre get it so wrong? It must be run by people that really really hate foodIt is confusing to order, the choice is 1970s fare, the prices aren't cheapIf you order ham, cheese and tomato toastie you will get vile meat in nasty cheese and want to throw up. How can you mess up food that should be so simple and nice?English catering at its worst. AVOID

My meal was OK (roast Beef). It was over cooked for my liking and the veg was a bit weel done but it was eadable and filled a hole nicely. However I did see several other poeple have bad meals and mumble to them selves that they didnt like it. If only more of them would use tripadvisor!!

Ordered a jacket potatoe with bacon and chicken and it looked and tasted horrible. I was expecting rashers of bacon with chicken but what I got was a ugly mess of what looked like tuna mayo. I couldn't see any bacon and the chicken was mashed up into mayo. The spud itself was cold and without any butter was dry. I don't how you can mess up at jacket spud but they did!! Considering it costs nearly £6 and all I got eat was raw dry potatoe is was a shocking expense, one which I will not be repeating. Go to the courtyard round the back instead - there is a lovely teashop with handmade food - just make sure you bring cash as they don't accept cards.

The food was reasonably good quality, however the thing that impressed me most was the friendly service. A good option when visiting the garden centre!

Went to the bull for lunch with three friends. Food was probably the worst I’ve ever had in a pub. Not a pleasant experience!

We had a spontaneous trip out and stopped at the Maltsters Pub , we were hungry so decided to order the Roast Beef. Oh my God was it good, the Beef melted in the mouth and it looked as good as it tasted. Staff were friendly and did their very best to look after us while we were there. We will be coming back to try more, my waistline may not thank me though. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of my food as I was hungry and tucked in!

Stopped here for a quick bite in the evening whilst passing through. Limited menu, I had pie and chips. It was hot and tasty so no complaints. I sat at a small corner table and when I went to put my bag on the floor my elbow got caught up in a whole nest of cobwebs that ran floor to ceiling. Moved to a different table and when I looked at the carpet it was glistening with slug slime! Yes you read that right!! Trails and trails of slug slime all over the carpet. I went to put my bag on the chair next to me. The chairs are covered with faded pink felt like fabric that would have been all the rage in the 70s but it was thick with long hairs all trapped in the fabric. The window sills were covered with dead flies. The bar man - am I allowed to say man in these politically correct times?? The bar person / server was however very friendly, welcoming and polite. Very depressing place, definitely needs a clean and makeover.
