This cafe/restaurant is situated on the upper floor of the V & A museum in Dundee. There appeared to be quite a wide appetising selection, and we decided to visit for lunch. Requirements are ordered and paid for at the counter and taken to a table. The staff were able to accommodate dietary requirements and provided friendly service. The food was good quality and the cost represented good value. The view from the cafe pleasantly looks out on the RRS Discovery ship next door, through a glass "wall".

If you're visiting the V&A, this is a good spot to stop for lunch. The menu is a little different to usual and although it's pricy, the quality is high and if you can get a table by the windows, the view is amazing.

The bar and restaurant is located inside the Dundee V&A however there is free admission to the building so you can admire a view of the RRS Discovery through the glass walled interior as you sit and eat. It’s a self-serve restaurant so your opportunity to view what is on the menu is basically as you shuffle along the queue and see what is on display. There is a variety of soups, salads and deli-style sandwiches and ciabatta. It may help if you know your raita and kimchi from hazlenut dukkha otherwise you will be guided merely by appearance as we were. We ordered two Cheese & Ham Ciabatta which were served with a choice of either a Galloway chilli jam or homemade kimchi and salad (£10.95 each) together with a couple of coffees. Everything paid for we were given an order number to display on our randomly selected table (one which had been cleared was a driving factor). There was a very long delay before the food was delivered and we did wonder at one point if the ciabatta were being freshly made! When the food did eventually arrive it tasted good and was quite filling. We resisted the temptation to have our cakes whilst waiting but these too were good - we had to get another couple of coffees by then of course. Overall bill was just over £42 and we thought this was fairly pricey but not unexpected. It was nice to have tried it but I’m not sure if we would necessarily return.

Visited for the tapestry exhibits found them really interesting, very different to the first visit, anyway back to the restaurant we were going to have soup and a sandwich but the sandwiches looked huge and we wouldn't have been able to finish it , so we opted for soup and a a scone. This was really good although I think the soup could have been hotter, price was a little on the steep side but I suppose you're in the V&A .

My friend and I came here for the afternoon tea and thoroughly enjoyed it! The food was delicious (especially the Thai sweet potato soup) and the offerings a bit different from the standard afternoon tea to incorporate a fusion of different Scottish tastes and influences. The view offered over the Tay and neighbouring Discovery also provided a nice backdrop. With regards to the service, when we arrived we were left standing for a long time with no acknowledgment from staff. We eventually joined the queue for the counter service and were seated at that point. The service from then on was great, our waitress very friendly and attentive. Although very tasty, I did think ÂŁ25 per head was a bit steep for what you got, especially considering this was the alcohol-free option.

While visiting the Tartan exhibition we decided to grab a quick bite for lunch. To be fair the restaurant was very busy but I found the whole experience a bit stressful. I ordered soup and my daughter ordered the skin-on fries with rosemary and sea salt. When we had paid we were given a number for the fries to come from the kitchen but then had to try and find a seat. We eventually found two seats next to another lady, but the table was not cleared from previous diners. As no other seats we had no choice. My daughter’s fries did not come and when I had finished my soup, I went to the counter to ask. The order was still at the counter. The staff sorted that and they arrived soon after. A sugar bowl sized portion of bought in fries for £4.00 plus 50p extra for salt and virtually no rosemary. Really shocking and disappointing all round. Will eat elsewhere in future as poor value.

Oh dear the change to self service seems to have produced a falling in standards both in the kitchen and the service. Lunch was very disappointing. Scotch broth soup was on the menu. Scones had run out and the oatcakes offered were only gluten free, no others were available. The soup was inedible as it was far too salty. It went back! The quiche/pie was cold accompanied by dressed cucumber salad and some leaves. On cutting the pie, watery substances were unleashed. That also went back. An outside door kept being blown open despite being of automatic closure. This caused a severe draft along the table where we were seated. I closed the door myself several times until a member of staff brought a wedge to keep it closed. When table service was on offer we had always regarded the Tatha as a good place to eat and relax. No more sadly. It is a huge pity that the ground floor coffee bar and cafe has been removed. That also was an asset for a coffee and cake. The manager of the Tatha informed me that they had combined the two outlets since March 2023. On this showing the restructuring needs a total shake up and rethink. The menu needs overhauling and the hot serving specials need to be - hot. Salads need more variety, accompaniments to the soups need at least a decent supply of scones so they don’t runout. Certainly oatcakes and crusty bread need to offered. Very disappointed.

We had felt a little wary having seen some other people's poor opinions, but our opinion is totally positive. The menu can be seen online, and it offers fresh, healthy tasty food. The prices are just average for eating out, and the views are lovely. Both the Butternut squash soup and red pepper soups we had, were large portions, and most enjoyable accompanied by the cheese mustard scones. We took advantage of the free chilled water tap. The staff were friendly and helpful and everywhere was clean and tidy.

We ate lunch for two mid-week & loved it. There is a good choice of fresh, clean, wholesome food available with hot food, various sandwiches, wraps & choices of gorgeous salads. The chicken flatbread was served with a choice of 1 salad & mackerel & oatcakes was served with 2 salads of choice. We had coffees & cake also which were good quality, tasty if not a tad pricey (cakes). The cafe is large with lots of seating & an amazing view overlooking the Tay. The staff were not overly friendly but were super efficient. The food was served swiftly & the cafe was clean & well managed with tables cleaned between diners. Water is available from a dispenser & the atmosphere & vibe is relaxed & contemporary. We loved it 😀

Had a really good cup of tea here. In addition my wife had the devilled mushrooms which she thoroughly enjoyed. Nice surroundings, good toilets interesting view. The staff were great. Friendly, attentive, smart and alert. Top marks.

Had dinner last night in a group of 10 people, gorgeous venue, staff were so efficient and kind and the food was lovely. Topped off by one of the best views over the Tay, would highly recommend. Only the one small criticism - the Pinot...

Having read recent reviews I was slightly apprehensive about lunch but I was pleasantly surprised. We had a reduced choice of menu as we were a large party, but the selection was varied enough to please everyone. Food was very well presented and tasty. Worth...

We went in at lunch-time for something to eat. The restaurant was full with a long queue so we sat out on the balcony. After being told that there would be a bit of a wait to be served, in the end we just decided...

Had lunch with family. The location is perfect for a relaxed lunch in the amazing V&A. The food was ok but not as good as the high prices led us to believe.

Came as part of a large group which necessitated pre-choosing our dishes several days beforehand. However this didn't speed up the service which was lethargic at best. My salmon mousse starter was nicely presented and tasty, but it was all downhill from there. I had...

Very slow service, a lot of staff hanging around chatting or busying themselves with tasks to avoid serving people by the looks of it. Other customers shared the same frustrations. The food was just terrible. The menu is also very strange - they should just...

The plan was to visit the V&A then eat elsewhere but the Dundee weather had other plans and there was torrential rain. So, the Tatha restaurant could manage to give us a table for five. I’m glad they did. Beetroot hummus, cauliflower flatbread, devilled mushrooms...

The location is very nice. The whole museum is fabulous but the restaurant does not meet the standards at all. The service is poor and the people working there are amateur. I do not want to use the word racists but if they treat local...

We had pulled pork toast and fish stew for lunch. Scrumptious food, enticingly presented. Attentive service, bright, inspiring and beautifully designed restaurant over looking the HMS discovery and icon Tay Rail Bridge. We recommend and will be back!

Some friends said that they had enjoyed a good meal here and so we booked for a Thursday evening - and certainly the view from the huge windows is a main draw, with views over the Tay and the Discovery moored nearby. We found the...
