Following on from the stodgy microwaved lunchtime offering today I will no longer be raving about Drouthy's fab Mac Cheese. It was quite an unpleasant surprise - and very disappointing. It used to be so amazingly good. I won't be going back.

About to give up hope of a decent drink and meal in Dundee on Sunday evening (with dog) when we were directed to Drouthy's. What a great find! They have a fantastic selection of beers (draught and bottled), and if you're not sure which beer you want you can sample three draught beers in one-third pint glasses. The burgers were excellent, moist and with good flavour, while the sweet potato chips were worth the small additional cost. The staff were so very welcoming and efficient, making it altogether a most delightful occasion.

Arrived here quite late on a Saturday night after being completely let down at another restaurant. Place was very busy but the staff were amazing & asked a group of guys if they would give up their table & mind sitting downstairs so we could eat. They did without any hesitation which was greatly appreciated. Our waitress was lovely. We all ordered burgers. Mine was the shroom which was roasted red pepper & mushrooms with sweet potato fries. Delicious! One of our group wanted a dark ale to drink so the waitress allowed her to taste before she decided on one. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating & friendly.

Went for lunch, it being dog friendly and found this to be a very nice, friendly place. Staff were friendly and efficient, big thumbs up for the music! Any place that plays Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen is worth visiting. We all had burgers and the burgers themselves were very good, though personally I'm not sold on the brioche buns, though others in the party liked them. The big disappointment was the accompanying chips. Skinny, pale, pallid and generally tasteless. With a burger you want chunky, well fired chips and let's be honest, that's not too difficult. Overall it's good, but not great and what's wrong could be easily fixed.

Student daughter took us here and recommended the burgers.Nice place, good menu, large range of beers and made welcome. When the food arrived we were short of the only burger we ordered for hungry daughter and the waiter said it would be "two minutes"....The food that did arrive was ace and we suspected that they had cocked up the order and after the rest of us were finished (about 15-20 minutes) there was no sign of the burger. After two trips to the bar it finally arrived with a meek apology so I told the waiter that he could serve it but we would not be paying for it and he put it on the table.A few minutes later the manager came over about the "issues" we had had and said that he would agree not to charge us for it!!The conversation went downhill from there and the bill was duly presented minus the cost of the burger and we almost parted friends.

Visited Drouthy's this evening for a pre-theatre meal. Had parked the car along the street and stumbled across this pub/eatery by accident en route to Dundee Rep. Myself and Other Half got a table at the window straight away where a delightful young server (very pleasant young lad with an Irish accent) came across immediately and asked us if we would like a drink or to look at the menu. He brought menus across to us and went to get our drinks. Our meals were brought to us in good time - a 'small plate' of macaroni cheese with red onion and tomato for me and a 'sharing plate' of nachos with chilli beef for OH, oh, and we can highly recommend the sweet potato fries with house seasoning we enjoyed on the side! Superb! Our food was excellent, very tasty and served piping hot. One small gripe is that there could have maybe been a wee bit more chilli beef on OH'S nachos but it was good all the same. We ordered desserts, Belgian chocolate brownie for me and Oreo cookie sundae for OH. Again, both were most enjoyable. Bill (including a soft drink each) came to just shy of £30 - good food and excellent, attentive service - well worth it. Will visit again and recommend! :)

Not normally one to complain, I've taken to TA to express my disappointment with our trip to drouthys this evening (5th September). We used to be fairly regular customers in drouthys but recently we have been a bit disappointed in their changes to the burgers and drinks menu and so have been less frequently of late. Nevertheless tonight we decided to head to our old haunt to mark one our friends leaving dundee for a new job. We first tried to ring to book a table (3-6pm) but were unable to get an answer. The phone just kept ringing. We decided to head on over anyway and were lucky to get a table. However we just sat there for 20minutes or so while the waitress ignored us. Eventually one of our party went to the bar to ask for menus. Eventually we ordered our food. However when we asked the guy who took our order if they'd stopped doing table service, he claimed that drouthys had never done table service, it was something that staff just liked to do for customers. This seemed very odd as we'd always had table service every time we'd been. Anyway we ordered our food and it arrived in good time. It was then that we experienced out second irritation of the night. The waitress told us that if we wanted some there was some on the table next to us. Thankfully the women sat on the table must of overheard her and passed us the condiments. Moving on, we finished our food and decided we might like deserts so we asked for the dessert menu. Again another twenty minutes passed while the waitress folded napkins and tended to the bar. In the end we gave up and decided to leave and pick up something sweet in tesco on the way home. Then came the final insult. We went to the bar to pay, seeing as there was no point in waiting for the staff to come to us. We stood waiting while the bar man attempted to make the couple in front of us two drinks. He seemed to be have a nightmare, reading the cocktail menu, dropping a lemon on the floor and ultimately dropping the lemon squeezer into the empties bin. He did apologise for the delay and said he'd be with us in a minute. Incidentally that minute never came and another five minutes passed and we were still standing there getting pretty hacked off. Meanwhile a queue had formed at the bar. When our waitress finally appeared at the bar, we had to interrupt someone to get her to acknowledge that we were before them and we wanted the bill that she hadn't brought us. Only at this point she apologised for not bring us the desert menu because she'd been busy. We finally paid and were relieved to get out of there and probably with an extra £30 that could have gone to Drouthy's if we'd had our dessert menus and subsequently ordered another round!Drouthy's staff are usually great. Tonight was the first time we have left without tipping them. We'd like to think this is a one-off due to a shortage of staff and a function booked downstairs but surely management would consider staffing in these circumstances, especially on a Saturday night and the first Saturday that students are back in town as well.We hate to say it, but between the changes to the food menu (the burgers are good, but not as good as they used to be!); changes in availability/stock of some beverages and now serious understaffing/ lack of training staff Drouthy's sadly seems to be going down hill rapidly.

We chose to try this place as we were out and about with the dog and it was listed on a dog friendly website. It is indeed dog friendly and the dog got a plate of biscuits and a bowl of water before we were served. The menu is mainly gourmet burgers and the choice is very good. I had the halloumi burger which was really delicious. We had the children too and while they enjoyed it there wasn't a separate menu for them. This wouldn't prevent us from going back though

Here they make some of the best burgers in town. The vegetarian options are great as well. You might, however, give the salads a pass, since they are small and contain mainly one ingredient. On some evenings it can be crowded and you might get a seat where they serve food.

The young staff and comfortable decor give this establishment a trendy yet warm atmosphere. The team on-hand were attentive and happy to help. The food was brought out at a fine speed- not too fast to arrouse suspicion as to the quality of the cooking, and not too slow as to start the thumbs twiddling. The food was impeccable. I was served possibly the best burger to ever have grazed my gub and the sweet potato fries were a thing of majesty. I highly recommend the 'Scotsman' burger. I have been going to Drouthy's for the past 8 years and if I'd written this review a few years ago, it would have scored 10/10 on everything but unfortunately they have changed some things around and it has not been for the better. The food menu changed drastically about 12 months ago and I'm pretty sure they changed where they were sourcing their food as the quality dropped dramatically. The food went form being high end pub grub to barely above fast food. The service however, has never faltered, 10/10 for a warm, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. They regularly change what they have available on tap, allowing you to try an assortment of ales, lagers and beers throughout the year.

Fine for drinks of an evening but don't bother with the food, poor quality and overpriced. We had macaroni cheese, which was heaped into a bowl with no panache and was watery and overcooked. We were served quickly and professionally by a young waiter and we then decided to stay for food. I am a fan of the taster board which the staff were of a particular help and they guided us on our choice and favourite ales. I went to Drouthy's with a group of friends for a late dinner after watching the fireworks. From the minute we walked in the staff were welcoming & friendly. Something that cannot be said for every pub or restaurant, often when you walk in looking for food after 8.30pm the staff are quite frosty!!Anyway, there were 7 of us and the staff were more than helpful from start to finish. We sat down stairs in the cellar area & we had it to ourselves which was lovely. The portion sizes are immense. I ordered the Nachos as a small, even then the plate was full & I could not finish it! I really enjoyed my meal, it had full flavour and was definitely worth the money. I would say though the menu is a little bit steep, around about £10-15 for a burger. All of the food came out together and with a minimal waiting time. The staff were on hand checking on us and taking more drinks orders. They honestly made the experience 10 times better just by being friendly & making us feel important i suppose!Definitely be back!

I ordered a squash salad which was absolutely delicious; it was refreshingly creative in its ingredients, too, which pleasantly surprised me seeing as it is primarily a burger joint. I also had the soup of the day - sweet potato and courgette - it was nice enough although nothing special in my opinion (not like the salad). My friend had a chicken burger which she rated highly. A bright and modern pub selling rare to the UK Premium Craft (keg) beers from European brewers plus up to 4 (seemingly all Scottish on our visit) real ales at around £4-£5 a pint. The ambiance on our visit (a Wednesday night) was couples and small groups of "twenty somethings" out for a chat and something to eat . I surmise that is its target customer base given the University area location. The service was attentive and conversational and we were unusually offered a jug of water at the time of our food and drinks order and the water jug which arrived with coriander and other herbs in. We opted to avoid the plentiful gourmet burger options on the menu and found the rest of the menu was not very inspiring. We shared a large portion of the deep fried haggis bites with a dip as a starter. Followed up with chili and Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni mains respectively (with a side order of chips to pad out the portion sizes). The chips disappointingly turned out to be skinny french fries type offerings and with hindsight the main courses were ample sizes and thus made the chips superfluous anyhow. We both found the meals to be tasty and just about reasonably priced but not memorable - Were I to be in town again I would maybe hunt out Drouthy's to see what beers were on offer but I doubt I would go back to eat as there is better value to be had.

I'm not the kind of person to give negative feedback, however myself and my friends we're left very deflated after eating here. The table was booked for 7:30 for a party of 9 and we were quickly asked our orders - all was well until the starters came out and one of us was seriously unimpressed with his chicken goujons as he deemed them definitely not worth over £5. All was well when we were eating our main - they we're regular pub meals, just what you'd expect in an average pub. (The spiced carrot soup was nice though...) HOWEVER, when we were finished as the staff had forgotten about us, we had to go upstairs to the bar to get the dessert menus, only to be told that the kitchen was closed!! - Why book a party of 9 if you know you're not going to give them the full meal that they are looking for?

I went with my partner and a friend for some dinner; they opted for the massive burgers while I settled for a spinach and ricotta dish. The burgers looked great and were well received. I enjoyed my meal, but there was lashings of cheese and little spinach. The waitress was very attentive, and they have a wide range of drinks to choose from. Drinks are quite pricey, but that reflects the choice on offer and the location of the bar.

Visited with a friend last week, we both ordered burgers as we'd heard how good they were! We definitely were not disappointed, great portion size, really don't have a single complaint. Staff were really good too, friendly and chatting away. Will definitely be back!

Easily my favourite bar in town. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, wide choice of beverages and delicious food. The only downside is the shortage of seats/tables, but this is to be expected as it's so well loved. Downstairs is great for an open mic/live music night, and all in all, I can't fault good old Drouthys! Highly recommended.

Having regularly frequented Drouthy's both with my girlfriend and with friends, I must say it is a fantastic all round venue. Whether you are after a few pints or sit down with the missus you are definitely in the right place. The choice of drink on offer on tap or in the fridges is sensational and the engaging bar staff are always able to offer their own recommendations and knowledge when you are just too spoiled for choice. I must say even with the huge choice of drinks on offer, it is the food bringing me back. The poppyseed bagel filled with the three C's of chicken, cheddar and chorizo is mindblowingly delicious supplemented with a generous salad portion and a choice of fries (parmesan for me). They also have a fantastic range of burgers with the haggis topped Scotsman being my personal recommendation.Top notch venue that I can't not recommend. You won't be disappointed.

It has a really welcoming atmosphere to the place and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I go here regularly and whether its for drinks or a meal I'm never disappointed in the quality of products and service I receive. We had a table for 5. Most of the food was ok for pub grub, however the macaroni cheese was very runny and flavourless, more like a soup, it was as if the attempt at a sauce had curdled, there was no topping that may have helped the overall flavour. We complained and they took it away. After a couple of minutes the same dish was returned with some pepper sprinkled on it. When we complained again we got a shoulder shrug and were charged the full £8.

Before I complain I want to say that I used to love this place for its burgers, best in town bar none, the kind of place you want to show friends. The staff are great and the chef is talented, the bar itself is really cool and has a welcoming vibe, good drink selection and great place for a coffee, however I'm really disappointed in the recent changes they have made to their signature burger. This may sound trivial but hold on!The gourmet burger...The burger I used to regularly enjoy was fresh, high quality and prepared with their own blend of herbs and spices,it tasted amazing as the chef is good when he gets good ingredients; fresh flavour, juicy, lingering and memorable, just fantastic. The meat now used is a pre-made burger, tastes rubbery, bland and reminiscent of a burger van. A clear cut in quality... Yet not price strangely enough. Both my friend and I noticed upon our last visit, it just isn't the same. Buns changed in recent months too which was the first blow but was forgivable as the meat was still the star. Along with the fresh cheddar, salsa and spicy mayo.I wish they would get the old burger back, get this place back to 5 star for me and my friends. Real burger lovers. If it wasn't for the awesome staff, chef and atmosphere then it would be 1 star based purely on the new burger (but still known as their gourmet burger) for me!Shame. Please fix it. Avoid the burgers till fixed, ask!

I have eaten here on a few occasions now and each time I've had one of the many different burgers they advertise on the menu, the meat is of the absolute best quality. All of the burgers are supplied by Simon Howie Butcher and you really can't go wrong with any of them. I had the double last time and it was a mammoth task to finish it off but so good, the salad to accompany was really fresh, fries were great and the service was perfect. It was relatively busy when we were in so I was surprised how quick we got our food.....oh and the coffee is reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyyyy good!! First class food and a decent pint, can't complain!

Four of us recently went for a meal here to celebrate my dad's birthday. The waitress explained the head chef was off so food would take a little longer than usual. Fair enough. The food arrived and it ranged from ok to appalling. There was no salad at all as they'd run out. (Tesco is just up the road!) My dad's burger was served with a bun, some grated cheese and fries. That was it. Honestly, I've never seen such a depressing meal. The presentation was appalling. My girlfriend had the nachos, which came with two bowls of salsa. (They'd run out of guacamole and sour cream.)They gave us some money off the meals but this was ridiculous. A kitchen shouldn't fall apart because one member of staff is off. Such a shame and a disappointment as the food is usually great. Make sure to ask if the head chef is in before placing your order!

Yet another lovely meal here, 4 of us went for their guest burger, but by the time we'd placed our order they only 2 left (the server warned us this may happen) so they offered us their next guest burger which actually worked to be a great idea! We all had half of each guest burger! It's good to see a creative & fresh menu with adaptability! We were served by various staff & they were all friendly. The two brunette girls (one is the manager or supervisor & the other foreign) were great! They let us try out a couple of beers & helped us to choose the best one suited to our taste!Reading some of the comments below about beers being over priced & being able to buy them for £2 in the shop... firstly I challenge them to find Mikkeller in a shop in Dundee & to get a bottle for less £8. Good, low volume, craft beers cost (deservedly so) quite a bit, but you shouldn't be drinking pint after pint, have a half, split a bottle with a friend. If you want to be a larger guzzling sheep then head to the Counting House in town! Drouthys is up their with the best pubs/bars in town - I think we should respect the fact it's not another chain pub serving the same menu in every city form frozen...

Had an appointment on the Perth Road so had a short amount of time for food - miscalculated the distance to some of the other places, so actually ended up at Drouthy's by chance. And what fortune that was as I got to taste the best burger in Dundee (couldn't choose between the chilli burger or the bbq burger, so had a combination of both!)The waitress was really attentive and pleasant. Food came quick.

Have been frequenting Drouthy's with friends and my girlfriend for quite some time now and thought I'd try and neutralise some of these poor reviews they've been receiving. My girlfriend and I went along to Drouthy's yesterday for lunch and, as usual, everything was perfect. We ordered large Nachos with beef chilli on top and it was excellent. The portion was perfectly sized for two and no expense was spared on all the toppings. Our server was polite, well informed and very friendly which was a nice change from most places in Dundee. The menu is good, comprising most things you'd expect in a pub, many dishes having a Drouthy's/Scottish twist and everything is very competitively priced. The atmosphere is a nice change from most places, it tends to have dimmed lights and candles on each of the tables throughout the day which makes for a nice place to take a spouse. There's a reasonable selection of different beers and I'm led to believe the cocktails are very good, though a bit pricey.I'd go as far as to say that Drouthy's is one of my preferred places to go for a good feed in Dundee and wouldn't hesitate suggesting it to any of my friends.

Visited here with some work friends for something to eat. Was gonna have the nachos as I know they are ok, but decided to go for a burger as the menu made them sound good. Food came, started to eat my burger but noticed a really weird smell. It genuinely smelled mouldy or something along the lines of that, was a really weird funk coming off my food!Alerted the waitress, who kind of looked blankly at me when I encouraged her to smell it for herself. She agreed it didn't smell right. Another server came over and said sorry and he would take something off the bill. Didn't eat my meal, got 10% off. JOKE!Can I not just get food with no issues???The food looked ok as well, the fries were ok....just this god awful smell from the burger!! I've gave this place countless chances, fed up being disappointed now! Good for a drink but eat elsewhere.

Unfortunately a lot of these reviews seem to be about the old style Drouthy's that has changed hands since. Droughy's isn't all that bad but it could be a lot lot better. The drink selection is actually quite limited and very overpriced. You may find that there isn't one reasonably priced drink that you'll like (unless you like Tennents lager... I mean come on sort it out). The staff were NOT pleasant to me at all on my last visit. I used to drop in there on a night out over the last few years but not any more. I would recommend that they sort the drink selection, lower the prices a bit, get some more friendly staff to replace the ones that are rude... hope that's enough to bring the pub back tbh.

Love drouthys! We often go for drinks and although not a huge cocktail menu the ones that are available are all very enjoyable. Staff are lovely and although never had a meal we have snacked during drinks. The goats cheese bruschetta is fantastic, so tasty, and the hummus and olives with pitta is a great choice with a glass of wine or two. Portions are a great size too! Can become very busy at the weekend but that is to be expected. the only thing i would say is downstairs does not smell very nice at all, however this is limited to the downstairs and the upper main bar is always clean and nice. we will continue to come back, would recommend for a quite drink amongst friends or family.

Drouthy's burgers are easily the best in Dundee. The food, across the menu, is all really enjoyable. The beers are exceptionally good, a great range. Probably cost a little more than average but the quality shows. There's a really fantastic range of spirits, particularly rums and gins. The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming, the staff are especially pleasant. As someone who has frequented over a good number of years, there've been some changes. The food, formerly served on good old fashioned plates has recently found itself rest on what are essentially wooden planks. That's the only annoying thing really, the wood platters seem needlessly pretentious and it can make certain dishes a messy eat.On the whole though, the food is a really good and well-priced for the standard of the meals. The range of beers, wines and spirits would keep even the most seasoned dipsomaniac busy for a good couple of nights. So, if you're looking for high-brow pub grub (if that's even a thing) and a nice drink, you'll find it at Drouthy's.

we had our works xmas night out here just before xmas. from the start of organising it back in august right through till the end of the actual night the service was faultless. Really helpful and friendly at each contact. On the night we were really well looked after. We had downstairs booked out and they had made it look very pretty, cosy and christmassy. We were given our own barperson, who was brilliant and friendly. Food was really good quality and value for money and unlike some places at christmas time it appeared as though the chef had really put thought into it. There was a small misunderstanding re numbers of orders but this was quickly and professionally dealt with and the cost was removed from our bill without any fuss. Cheers to all at Drouthys!

I went with a friend for lunch but it was a disaster from start to finish. We only ordered 2 main meals and the kitchen or the waiter managed to get them mixed up. He took them away and when he brought them back they still were not right and the waiter said that the kitchen were in meltdown ( I don't know why as it was not particularly busy when we ordered). By the time this all got sorted out the horrible thin fries were stone cold so had to take them back to the bar and by this time the burgers too were cold but I decided to eat the centre as this was the hottest and when the fries returned they were decidedly limper than our first offerings which I took to mean that they had been zapped in a microwave although not long enough to make them hot, they were still lookwarm, I gave up. One girl came past asking if everthing was okay, I replied no, she apologised then said she would inform the manager. The original waiter guy was wandering past and I asked him for a repeat drink (which I never received). After 15mins or so my friend and I had decided to go to the Tay Bridge instead for our next few drinks. When we went to pay at the bar it turned out that the waiter had added the extra drink to the total but had forgotten to give it to me. The manager took 10% of the total balance with yet more apologies. I appreciate that mistakes and errors can occur but I think what annoyed me the most was the amount of mistakes for 2 simple meals and the lack of follow up. Might I suggest that the person who takes the order, see through the process until the customers are quite happy. Shame as it is a nice place to sit and relax but there are plenty of other bars serving food on the Perth Road so I doubt that I will return to Drouthy's.

Drouthys has become one of my fav bars because it's got the best burgers and to top that the beer is always pretty outstanding. Great selection of Craft beers on every time I head along which is about once or twice a month. I don't know what they put in their burger mix but just wow all the time. The deserts aren't too shabby either, warmed choc brownie with Ice cream if I can fit it in is always pleasant.Bar staff and Management are great, always very welcoming and are always keen to let you sample the beers before you try them. This is a place I tell everyone about and they always agree, it's awesome.

Droughtys became in the last years our best place for a drink and burgers! The choice of beers is great, can't complain. i always said good things about the food and recommended it to friend , but our last visit made me wonder if I will go again... or not! The burger has changed, meat is not as good as before, the burger buns is definitely a let down! the seeded bun was definitely better. The fries: but noooooo! why those thin fries, oily and tasteless? And the dessert: a chocolate brownies: it was just warm up in the microwave I guess, the white chocolate ganache was just a decoration on top of the cake made from cheap chocolate... a real let down! Please Droughtys, we want the good stuffs again!

Recently came in for some of my beloved nachos...only to see that there have been some changes. Ok,change is good. But I'm not so sure if this is the case with Drouthy's. I'm not loving the new plates. The old one's were much nicer and felt more "gastro pub". The new one's look like they should be in a fine dining establishment. Secondly, I HATE the new salsa. It's awful, really really awful. It tastes too sweet :( The old stuff was great guys, why change it?Also, there was a very small amount of jalapeno's on my large nachos :(My friend was pleased with the new chips, as she hated "fat" chips. Please change the salsa back :( If it's not broke, why fix it??

We booked a table here for dinner to celebrate our anniversary whilst we were staying at the adjacent suites. The restaurant is in a converted mill building and very spacious and modern in design. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and we were quickly seated . When discussing the menu staff went to great lengths to say how good certain dishes were . We decided to order the roast dinner and the chicken and ham pie. It was a bit of a wait for the meal especially when there was only one other table occupied. When the meal arrived it proved to be disappointing , the beef in the roast dinner was very chewy , the pie was mainly ruff puff pastry and little filings and the turnips served with both meals were so solid you could not stick a fork into them and they were inedible . When we raised this with the staff one said they were onions? and the other said oh sorry that's a shame I will raise it with the chef. We decided to order dessert my husband ordered a sticky toffee pudding which was good , and I ordered a trifle panacotta . Turned out to be a panacotta , with jelly on the bottom and sprinkles on the top. More like a school pudding than a two rosette restaurant meal . The other annoying thing was the repetitive "lift" music being played loudly throughout the evening. Cost nearly £80 for a bread & oil starter for 1, 2 courses and 2 small glasses of wine. I think the restaurant thinks it is better than it actually is.

They’ll make it extra spicy if that’s your thing! Overall, a great spot for flavorful meals and a fantastic atmosphere. Definitely recommend!

Very noisy hotel. Hotel staff woke us up several times thought the night. Was offered to move room as TV didn't work only to be offered a smaller room that was freezing cold. Would not return again. Location is very noisy as there are several bars open late nearby.
