The Barrels in Dundee City

Place is split in 2 more of a bar one side and restaurant the other. Had dinner which was decent not a bad price but not the cheapest either.

Went for lunch .read the xmas menu .says two course 18 pound .we ordered main and sweet .the main came out on a small dinner plate with 1 long bit fish .was gone in two bites .with veg and salad and chips .called over the girl and asked why the plate was so small for 18 pound .she says there half portions .no were on the festive menu does it say half portions . Full size fish chips 13.99 and pudding 5.95 so for extra 2 pound we could have got full size .the portion was enough to feed a 10 year old misleading menu .

Came in as a large group of around 25 on our lunch break and was served super smoothly! Great staff and amazing food! Everyone loved it and said how great all the dishes were. Lovely how accommodating they were!

Went in for an early tea so not many people there hence 2 stars for atmosphere. Brilliant to get half portions which is more than enough for us. Service very friendly and helpful and food was delicious. Prices very reasonable

Family meal on a Saturday night. 11 adults, 3 kids. Extensive menu, with options for half portions. The food was fresh, hot, and very tasty. Pleasantly surprised. Definitely recommend

We had an 80th Party in the large function suite which was free to hire. Nicola the manager was superb when booking,she answered all our questions and gave good advice about the evening(buffet,dj,drink prices,etc) Bar prices were very competitive especially for a function,they even bought in a particular bottle of spirit as it was the b,day boys favourite tipple.On the night Frankie and staff were friendly and very accomodating,helped out if required and sorted out our buffet etc. The DJ Steve was also excellent set a great atmosphere by getting us all involved.A great selection of requested songs,some karoake if wanted and lots to dance to. The actual venue inc toilets were very clean and tidy,all in all we would definately book The Barrels again and highly recommend its function suite to all. Thank you again Nicola & all the staff who made the night run smoothly👍.

Go to the barrels quite a lot for breakfast/dinner, went yesterday ordered a chilli burger , normally very good, this was like someone fried some mince and added a few jalapeños, it was disgusting, I scraped the mince off(my partner ate it, he eats anything)so had a plain burger, don’t think I will be going back which is a shame as I have always enjoyed the food, I told the waiter about the food and he said he would find out who made it

Came here for food with my partner. I had the pepper steak melt and he had the steak pie. Food was really decent and good portions. Sauce in the pepper steak melt could have been a bit thicker. There was a large family in eating too and whilst I don’t mind family dining, the screeching of the kids and allowing them to jump all over the seats while parents are laughing at and videoing them and having no parental control or giving consideration for other diners is a bit irritating.

Back in Dundee visiting familyafter a long time away. Had 7 meals there in 10 days and thouroughly enjoyed every one. Staff were great, really friendly. Food was great pub food with plenty of choices. Shout out to the chef who cooked me a delicious Insian curry at my request. Absoletly sensational

Booked a table for breakfast last Sunday ( 16th ) at 10am when we arrived there the doors were locked ! we had travelled up from Carnoustie to join friends … I eventually spoke to someone after 11 who informed me that there was no breakfast chef and we should have received a phone call to let us know …. absolutely shocking customer service …. !!!!!

Only tried their breakfast but it was good and hot. Staff friendly enough and they come to you at the table to take your order. The place is clean and well lit.

Disappointed that signs on pub say food served 12.00 until 8.00pm to be turned away at 7.33 to be told that kitchen is closed.

Visited the Barrels peviously for breakfast with friend. Had lovely time. Staff really friendly and nothing too much trouble. Breakfast freshly cooked and was excellent. Decided to try lunch today. Had pensioners 3 course meal deal. . Wish I only had 2 course as large portions. Struggled to finish. The food again freshly cooked and excellent. Couldnt fault anything from friendly welcoming staff and service. To the food. Well worth a visit. Prices very reasonable too.

Service was extremely lacking. Food was over an hour wait. When the food finally come it was not amazing. Most of the family left their meals. Kitchen staff member gave the best hospitality before we left and took 2 meals off the bill. However, my family and I probably will not being going for food here again.

Had steakpie chips and vegetables.my partner had steak and chips with vegetables.with2cans of Coke both meals were absolutely delicious and served by helpful, courteous staff.a nice surprise when I went to pay my bill and was told that there was a 25 percent discount on Friday. Saturday. And Sundays. At the moment so all that for £17.75 definitely be back there again..

Waited so long to get served we walked out

Did a return visit for breakfast and was disappointed to see that the required Covid mitigations not being met. Staff did not use masks - and those that did either had below chin (or nose) - no point in wearing if you don't use properly. Visors that do not come under your chin are a waste of time. This made me very uneasy as in vulnerable group and would like to be able to enjoy my visits to local pubs for meals or drinks. Neither were we asked for our names etc for tracing purposes. We need everyone to do their part to keep our "freedom" - little contraventions lead to big problems over time. Food however cannot be faulted but we won't return unless we know that they are following all the rules to ensure safety.

Breakfast at The Barrels was my sons birthday choice yesterday, he absolutely loves the pancakes with bacon. We were a group of 4 adults and 4 kids. Ordering was easy everything was table service and all staff were so helpful and polite. Unfortunately we were informed there were no pancakes, these things happen, so he went ahead and ordered the kids 5 piece breakfast. Coffees and juices were brought out to us quickly, and breakfast was not far behind. Everything was cooked to perfection, and all great value for money........Bonus points for the free pancakes getting brought out to us! Was such a nice touch and definitely going above and beyond. A member of staff must have nipped out to the shop for them, after we mentioned it was a birthday breakfast. Will definitely be back.

Have eaten here several times without complaint.Went there Friday 28th wife and I ordered loaded chicken strips,nachos,chips, appalling meal,chicken was nuggets,chips were left,nachos were nothing more than couple nachos broken up scattered over meal.Turns out they don't cook it there but buy it in ready cooked. It is over cooked then reheated waste of money and not recommended

Was there for breakfast for 1st time. Really excellent food well prepared and presented.Staff were so helpful and efficient. Will be back 10 out of 10 for everything

Service was great, small.issue dealt with immediatley. Best steak and onion panini by lively lady chef. Well worth a visit especially.on a Tuesday as will.get extra quick service.
