Disappointed by the main waiter here who is incredibly rude and ruined our experience. Absolutely no customer service skills at all.

Never changes, pleasant staff, reasonable prices for excellent food and drink. A lot of effort goes into producing the home made food. I have heard some complain about the time spent waiting to get their food, but when you consider this is not a McDonald's / fast food outlet it is worth the wait for good wholesome food. Lisa and the crew do their very best to make your experience while visiting this haven as friendly and enjoyable as possible. we have visited and ate here many times, we would not put this on our visit list if we were not satisfied with the service, surroundings and food and drink. Keep up the good work people. M and V

First visit here. Lovely setting and the venue looked really nice. There was outdoor seating if we had wanted. I only wanted something light so opted for a toasted cheese scone and a decaf tea. The scone was delicious but the tea was lukewarm. It was rectified very quickly - the geyser had stopped working but was a disappointing experience. My friend ordered Welsh Rarebit and was told it would be a long wait. It was a very long wait and, to be honest, if we had known it would be so long we might not have ordered food. The people on the next table were told it would be an hour's wait so did not stay. There were a lot of staff front of house and it wasn't particularly busy so we are not sure what the problem was today. The food was very good, it is such a shame there were issues today.

The food and service was excellent - we both enjoyed the home made quiche with salad. Reasonably priced and lovely atmosphere.

Avoid when it will be busy. The service is very slow waited over an hour for food for three of us to be told there isn’t many staff in and that’s why it’s taken so long. No apology about the service. We asked for a jug of water and we were told we could just have a glass.

Recently had the pleasure of visiting this lovely cafe. Black Forest cake - delicious, sherry trifle - fabulous, ploughman’s - very big and lovely, paella- very nice. The chap behind the counter very friendly and helpful. Great cafe.

My husband and I visited here for Saturday lunch, upon being recommended by friends. It was absolutely amazing. So fresh and delicious. Our waitress, (young lady with plait) was friendly and helpful. Food tick, service tick and even British weather tick. We will definitely be back to try more off the menu as we were spoilt for choice.

Having been here a couple of times, we thought we'd invite some friends along to have an enjoyable day out. I'd pre-booked a table, so there was no problem finding somewhere to sit inside. However, after settling down and reviewing the menu, we had to go to the end of a queue to place our orders. There was only one man taking food orders, and a young guy buzzing around serving the food. It seemed ages before we managed to place our orders, but seeing that we weren't in any particular hurry, it wasn't a big problem. BUT queueing for 20 - 25 mins did seem a tad extreme. However, during this time, a lady appeared from the kitchen area (manageress perhaps??) and apologised to us who were queuing; she said that they were short-staffed so please bear with them, they are going as fast as they can. So that explained the wait; but even after that announcement, people were complaining and muttering behind us. Our meals arrived about 20 minutes later, and all four of us were famished by then. The meals were good, and tasty, but to be honest, they weren't anything special. We had different things the last time we were there, and they weren't on the current menu....... but, to be honest, we had enjoyed the past meals more, than this time around. Later after having had a walk along the canal, we then went back for another coffee, & cakes; all fine this time around...... no long queues!! Prices for food here are a tad higher than other places we go to, but all things considered, the setting and the peace and quiet, are worth a bit extra. All that said, we will probably come back again when we're in the area.

As I found a piece of hard plastic in my soup, I advised the young waiter, but he didn't report this. I have sibce been in touch with the cafe who apologised but didn't even offer me a free coffee. I think that's very poor of the owner.

Welcoming, very nicely appointed with delicious food. The carefully crafted menu looks delicious — I had the Poke Bowl — absolutely superb with a pot of tea! I expect to be going back very soon.

We had 2 lattes which were very good. After our long walk we needed some refreshments. We stopped off hoping for the dogs could go inside, but they weren't allowed at all! So we ended up drinking outside in the drizzle, which was a huge disappointment and very moist!!!!!!!. You'd think places would be so accommodating to owners and their dogs, as it brings in much revenue to any establishment, especially in these tough times we live in!!! As we live out the county, I can't see us coming again, which is a huge disappointment! The drinks were good, but had better and quite pricey, too!

Definitely the best home cooked Sunday lunch & amazing cauliflower cheese, which unfortunately it’s by on my photo. My partner had the ultimate steak burger which was amazing. Highly recommend Tastebuds for the quality of food, presentation and service. They also had an amazing choice of deserts but unfortunately we were too full to enjoy but they do take out deserts, cakes & coffees & will definitely be returning again very soon.

On a sunny day this is a delightful place to eat outside. The menu is different. This is a big plus as everywhere seems to do the same food these days but not Tastebuds. can't wait until next summer ..

Just had the best Xmas meal ever cooked to perfection, quality food and plenty on your plate well worth the money and good value. We very often call into this beautiful cafe and as always the staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome. The standard of cleanliness within the cafe is exceptional. I wish all cafés had such a high standard as Tastebuds.

Came to Tastebuds on 4th December 2023 for their Festive lunch. I can honestly say that it was the best Festive lunch I had eaten anywhere (other than at home). The food was piping hot, plentiful, beautifully presented and absolutely amazing value for money. Everything we had was just so tasty I cannot praise this restaurant enough. Thanks you to all at Tastebuds yesterday who pulled out all the stops and presented us with a fantastic meal on the occasion of my birthday and that of my brother in law. Well done. Amazing!

A small homely cafe with good quality food and service. A wide selection of lovely homemade cakes. We had the avocado & poached egg toast and full English

Went for a Sunday roast this week. Cracking big plate of food, lovely roasties and tasty meat. Staff friendly as ever, always going the extra mile. Cant fault the place.

Lovely little find yesterday with my other half .. We shared a ploughman’s and I know it was made nicer because the weather was great and we sat outside but the plate was ample for two .. if there is a fault it would be the white bread would have been lovely with a chunky baguettes ..we topped it off with a shared choc eclair .. delicious

Firstly many congratulations to Tastebuds on receiving the Consumer Award for Lancashire 2023! Secondly we have visited Tastebuds a few times and on each occasion received a friendly welcome from the staff and enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. Thirdly and importantly to us did you know Tastebuds provide OUTSIDE CATERING? We asked Lisa and the Team to make the banquet for our Wedding Reception and they certainly didn't disappoint. A superbly delicious and colourful home made array of foods, catering for all tastes including vegan and pescatarian. We had quite a list of requirements, giving rather short notice for some and all were met with enthusiasm and helpful suggestions along the way. Our guests commented on how 'delicious', 'flavoursome' and 'moorish' these home made savouries and sweets were! A big thank you to Lisa as well as Sally, Olivia and Sid who provided the most professional, curteous service throughout which made our Wedding Reception that bit more special. We couldn't recommend highly enough. Louise and Keith

Lovely hidden gem, amazing staff and excellent food - we called in for lunch and ordered prawn sandwiches which were very tasty and served with fresh salad and crisps. Prices are realistic. Service was friendly and efficient. Have recommended to family and friends.

Lovely sitting area outside , menu interesting. One had the fisherman's platter, a big plateful, lovely! The lakeland bottled beer was also very good. Not many places do proper sandwiches these days so very pleased with my Tuna Mayo on brown.

If only the man behind the counter would smile !!! I was only wanting coffee and cake. I was on my own with 2 dogs and wasn't allowed to join the quite long queue unless I put my dogs outside. Surely even though you can't take dogs in when you're eating I could at least have queued with them. I had to tie them up outside. The coffee was awful and the cake the same. What a waste of money. Never again. Several people I was chatting to after commented about the man who was determined not to be pleasant and give a little smile. This is customer service basic training for goodness sake

Lovely place, great atmosphere, nice to sit outside when weather permits, food very good, pricey but the food reflects the price, disappointed that no sweetener available for drinks, stall efficient.

A fairly average lunch. My sister enjoyed her salmon super salad. The chilli chicken was also rated as okay. My brother in law ordered a hash Benedict. We had to ask for another plate as it came without the poached eggs. The second plate arrived with two hard poached eggs which he ate because he was fed up of waiting. My prawn sandwich was average as the bread did not taste particularly fresh. Also £4.50 for a tiny bucket of skinny fries was ridiculous!! One of our party had a slice of a very stodgy lemon meringue. Excuses were made saying they had been very busy. Don’t think we will return.

Just visited for afternoon tea and was very impressed. Excellent value for what you get. The sandwiches were delicious with a fabulous amount of filling. Mini prawn and smoked salmon cocktail was an unexpected bonus. Lovely scones already cut in half and beautiful cream cakes. I’ve paid much more for much less.

Loved the place with various quirky teapots on show. We ordered sandwiches which came with a beautiful dressed salad and crisps, the salmon was delicious and the tuna so tasty

Delighted to find this cafe for lunch after a long drive. Lots of gluten free choices, which is unusual and very pleasing. Staff very helpful and friendly. Cakes were amazing.

Very very expensive. £5 for coffee out of a machine and £4.25 for a piece of yesterday's cake is not good value. Same can be had nearby for half that price.

Clean and nice food, but staff were unapologetic when it was pointed out that the cutlery was dirty and it is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. There are other establishments in the area that tick all boxes, so I won't be visiting Tastebuds again!

Passed this place so many times over the years but never actually visited. Being Vegan it’s hard to find somewhere with good vegan options. Before travelling my hubby called to check they had vegan options available to be told they had a few including the soup, a falafel wrap and a special which included avocado crush. Sounded promising so we reserved a table.Upon arrival was ignored by staff, having never been before we didn’t know the protocol. My husband eventually got a young lads attention who showed us to a table. Passed us a menu and went. After 10 mins of waiting we realised it wasn’t table service. We wasn’t told we needed to order at the till!Menu - so Vegan was just the falafel as the special referred to on the phone had Non-vegan elements on it and taking those off would have basically left avocado on sourdough bread. So had the falafel wrap, also asked for the cup of soup for £3 which to be told no - that was just for sandwiches. Thought this was harsh! Ended up paying for a full bowl - which we was told was vegan friendly only when it turned up was mushroom that defo looked pale so had cream/milk in it. Caught the eye of the young lad and asked - he took away and confirmed did have cream in it! He returned with one without!Overall - food tasted good. Coffee average as it’s a push button machine and not proper barista style coffee. Biggest let down was service - lack of communication and instructions on arrival. Would I go back - maybe but wouldn’t be top of my list.

Very good cafe next to a lovely canal walk. We enjoyed a good coffee with toast/toasted tea cake so much we returned for the same the next day. Lots of outdoor seating, friendly atmosphere and very clean nice toilets. Highly recommend

Went there after checking out the website, the menu looked great but the menu presented bore no semblance.cant tell you how the food is because nothing on the menu to entice so we left and went somewhere else. oh and dont expect a view of the canal.

Very nice cafe at the canal marina. I had a very good sausage sandwich on sourdough toast and my daughter had a hallouni and pepper wrap with skinny fries. Sat outside on the pleasant terrace with the canal barges as a backdrop. They have a superb cake selection

Wife had Eggs Benedict, GREAT, I had full English and kids had, Scrabbled on toast, bacon barm, beans on toast. AND youngest had sourdough special. Brilliant Tastebuds Best in Area xxxxxx

It's been a while since we've been back, and it was nice to see the place has had a bit of a revamp! Not many better places to eat after a long ride out in the sunshine, food is as fresh and deeeeeelicious as ever.I'll be back...

Having been to taste buds in the past and not been for some time, was quite shocked to see the changes and not for the better. 1. Poor choice of menu. 2. Poor quality food now( as done on the cheap) but not not cheap prices. 3. Lengthy wiring outside to get your order in ( no matter what the weather) was more like a transport cafe now. 4. Sadly not the taste buds we used to know. Won't be revisiting again.

We booked for garden party afternoon tea early in April. Upon checking the booking it seems it had not been put in the book, which led to me making a second booking for garden party afternoon tea on the 28/04/21. As were on our way to the venue we received a call from tastebuds, checking if we were coming and that the booking was for traditional afternoon tea. When this was queried the member of staff was convinced this was correct and that garden party afternoon tea had not been requested.After we arrived I queried this again, to be told that due to refurbishments my booking may have ended up in two separate books. I paid for the tradition afternoon tea and one coffee and we proceeded to eat the afternoon tea. The main complaints are as follows:1. I ended up being charged for garden party afternoon tea which is more expensive than traditional afternoon tea even though we received the traditional one. Perhaps they did have my booking correct,if true then they couldn't be bothered cooking for the garden party afternoon tea but we're quite happy to charge for it 2. The sandwiches were stale, was this someone else afternoon tea that failed to show up. We will never know.3. They also charged £0.40 per extra for my coffee, if the price has increased then you need to make people aware. Your website seems to have your old prices if this is the case. 4. I left an email with the manager whom I'm still waiting to here back from. Previous visits have been good, but standards seem to slip either when the manageress / owner is not on site or its a weekday visit.At this moment in time I cannot recommend this venue.

We had been out for a walk about a week ago and decided to call in for lunch, sitting obviously at one of the outside tables. The food was really good and the service very friendly. We'd not been to Tastebuds before but we're already planning a return visit.

Now that lockdown is beginning to ease and the weather is improving we decided to stop at Tastebuds for ice cream after a walk. The local area is lovely and it’s a great spot to have something to eat. We only wanted ice cream, which was very good, but staff were not particularly attentive which I found to be the case on our last visit. Only one person serving drinks / ice cream so we were waiting a long time before eventually being served.

Had a hoysin duck takeaway pizza last night and it was absolutely delicious. Lot's of topping and a really good size. My husband had the chicken balti pizza and said it was very tasty. Would highly recommend this cafe.

We called in today after a lovely walk at Mere Sands Wood (which I also highly recommend). Between myself, husband and daughter, we tried various ice cream flavours which were all very nice although I had not had that particular brand before - English Lakes Luxury Ice Cream. We managed to sit outside enjoying the last of the sun with a lovely view of the canal. Well worth a visit if you are passing through. I’ll definitely call in again and sample more of the menu. I have it on good authority that the smoked salmon sandwiches are also very good.

Great food and drink menu. Great place to stop with plenty of outdoor seating and a place to park your bike. Good social distancing measures in place and observed by staff. Toilets exceptionally clean 🙌👍🚲

After a bike ride in the sunshine from Southport we were ready for a cuppa and something to eat. COVID precautions were in place with a one way system. The choice of food was very good, I chose a goats cheese, bacon and chilli jam panini whilst Pete had a bacon Brie and cranberry one, both came with a very creamy coleslaw and salad. They arrived on china plates and were were tasty. Definitely will visit again but maybe not on bikes!

Visited this lovely, warming cafe yesterday with my Brother. The staff were so kind and helpful, they helped me pick out gluten free options (as I suffer with Coeliac Disease), I felt so comfortable and catered for with lots of options to choose from. To add, I had a gluten free scone for my pudding and it was devine! Social distancing measures were in place and everything felt very safe with disposable sauce packets etc.Highly recommend for anyone around the area!

Was so looking forward to visiting again after lockdown. I appreciate new procedures in place but paper plates and wooden cutlery., Our food was still lovely prawn sandwiches and a mushroom soup however soup served in a little plastic cup a much smaller portion than the normal soup bowl and a wooden teaspoon to eat it with not very practical or enjoyable.

Called in for brunch on a busy Sunday. Easy car parking, plenty of seating and friendly, helpful staff. Sensible manageable menu with something for everyone and food/drinks served in good time. Food to the standard expected. We will call again!

Usually when eating out I see great vegan options on menus and most definitely dairy free milk available for hot drinks . I was extremely disappointed to find I was unable to have a hot drink at tastebuds as they didn’t have soya milk available .Glancing at the menu they offer vegetarian dishes mostly with cheese (even though that could be removed ) My choice was limited to a sandwich or salad so I opted for a sandwich. Immediately after ordering a member of staff came to say the bread contained milk so my options were reduced even further so I chose a salad. I’ve got to say Is was an amazing salad! I went to look at their gorgeous cakes on offer and asked if any didn’t contain milk and unfortunately they all did. They did offer to make an alternative for me of a meringue nest with fruit but i declined . With so many dairy free ingredients available now, it would be easy to substitute butter for a vegetable oil based spread with out compromising on taste. I’ll certainly choose to eat here again opting for a salad but I will however be bringing my own milk so I can at least have a cup of tea.

Out around the Ormskirk area decided to go for lunch so we were recommended to try Tastebuds We selected warm chicken bacon egg and Black pudding salad each Food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent couldn't have asked for anything better

I've been coming here for years for a full English breakfast. It's not cheap but always been pleased with the quality and extra touches....til today. They've decided to stop sticking HP sauce and have resorted to some horrible cheap rubbish that totally changes the enjoyment of breakfast. It just smacks of penny-pinching. I'd rather they charged an extra 30p and stuck with HP. They've just lost a regular customer.

Had a visit today for a coffee and a treat. Coffee was reasonably priced but tray bakes extortionate for what they are but a good selection to choose from. The two tray bakes we had were good, not outstanding for the money paid. They do have a "special": mug of tea or coffee and a toasted tea cake for £2.95, which seems very reasonable. We had a look at the general menu and it seems to be about £1.50 - £2.00 per lunch dish or sandwich more expensive than other quality local cafés. The service was brusque and unfriendly, I wonder if the waitress can smile or if she just chews lemons all the time.

Myself and my partner decided to visit Tastebuds on a Sunday for some breakfast, firstly we were really happy that they serve breakfast until 12:30pm which is much later than most places! The staff were really friendly when we arrived, we ordered our food and it arrived to our table piping hot within no longer than 10 minutes and they were very busy with customers seated inside and outside. Lisa and her team were very friendly and approachable! P.s the cakes looked amazing too!

Visited today late afternoon and full menu available. Ordered soup and sandwiches plus desserts and chilled drinks. Everything prepared quickly and well presented. Staff very pleasant and helpful. A great dining experience and good value

A great ploughmans lunch. Lots of variety and plenty of it, in a very relaxed atmosphere. The restuarant also has some lovely desserts to suit all tastes. Will certainly come again. Very clean toilets also.

Called in after a visit to Rufford Hall. 8 adults in the party. The staff greeted us warmly and soon sorted a table. The food was excellent and atmosphere very good. Well done to all. Only minus was that gluten free options had run out .

Stopped of at tastebuds when in the area the food was very nice when it finally arrived and the setting is present, the place was busy as it was a nice day , so my only gripe was the wait time with them having some kind of meltdown in the kitchen , apart from that everything was ok.

Sunday brunch was an enjoyable experience with everything homemade and friendly smiling staff. We will be visiting again if we were in the area.

Came along here with my partner and MIL after the cafe around the corner was too full to accommodate us- and wow were we glad we ended up here instead! The place was about half full, so pleasant- the staff were lovely and helpful :) I had a slice of their chocolate fudge cake- it was to die for! So so rich and creamy. My partner had the butternut squash soup, which came in a cool looking bowl with a big fluffy bread roll on the side. The decor in this place was adorable and fitting- we sat beside a teapot that looks like a sewing machine! Love it!

We have previously enjoyed breakfast at Tastebuds and it was lovely. We ordered take away breakfast barms. The bread was fresh but the sausages were disgusting. Undercooked and grisly and inedible. Threw them away after one bite.

A great place for lunch and a snack. There is a great selection of homemade cakes and meals.

The menu was quite varied and inviting. The staff were very quick and also friendly which is always nice. Best of all the food was delicious and we would not hesitate to repeat our visit - just to eat.

Although my husband's order was wrong he was happy enough to eat it. The staff were very attentive and insisted he had his money back even though he enjoyed what he had. It makes such a change from places where the customer is NOT always right and highlighting mistakes are viewed as a personal attack rather than information to take positive action on! We will certainly visit here again. The food was very enjoyable and the range of 'puddings' delicious!

Visited with my family yesterday and not one complaint could be found. My steak sandwich was absolutely delicious, with the apple pie and custard for dessert to top off the visit. No request was any bother, and the cafe is in such a lovely setting! Without a doubt we will be returning!

I called at Tastebuds with some friends for breakfast last Sunday and it was AMAZING! The food was served quickly and was very good quality! My friends, who have not been before, had travelled from Derbyshire for the visit and were VERY happy with their 'Really Posh Breakfasts'! We all had Strawberry Shortcake Milkshakes which were a incredible! The staff are all brilliant, nothing is too much trouble, and even the toilets are fabulous! I'll definitely be back soon (going to try the Afternoon Tea next time)! Definitely would recommend!

Going to keep it short and sweet but this places never fails me. Excellent every time, loads to choose from. The menu is different to the rest! not just your average boring food there is something for everyone. Highly recommend.

Called here today my husband had the special burger and my my it was special, he said it was one of the best he'd ever had steakburger,black pudding,cheese and all the trimming a real feast. When it arrived we all gasped it looked so good. I had the hot black pudding and chicken,bacon salad it was delicious. Staff friendly helpful and little gem of a place. After couldn't resist blackcurrant ripple ice cream AMAZING. Will be back very soon.

I like this place. We have been a few times and the food is very good so no complains on that score and most of the staff are very pleasant. One complaint though, I’ve noticed that they have a system of preparing drinks even as you are ordering and paying, which you then take to your table. Ok for some but I prefer my hot breakfast drink with my hot breakfast. I made this point at the counter asking very clearly that my food and my drink are served at the same time. Simple? No, I took the drinks to the table then have to wait for the food some time later. I know systems are important for the efficient running of the place but come on it’s not difficult to organise this simple request. What’s the answer? I Order my food then wait till it’s delivered then ask for my drinks? I’d rather not play that game. I’ll try again next time, but hopefully someone will take note of this review and put things right other wise I’ve just wasted my time!

Visited today to celebrate a ladies 82nd Birthday. The staff went out of their way to make our lunch one of the best we have had. The young gentleman on the counter is a credit to the cafe. The food was delicious, it was with us in no time - we had to leave some so that we still had room left for one of the amazing desserts they had on display. Th total food bill and drinks bill was very reasonable for the quantity and quality we received. The newly refurbished toilets are lovely too.

Apparently this place is very popular with cyclists who seem to like this area and I'm not surprised after sampling the superb fare. We went to catch up with family who had called here in their barge and when we arrived it happened to be lunchtime so we went over. The menu isn't endless but what it is is excellent. We will be calling here again even if the family are long gone down the canal. What I did miss was a long drink of beer or cider to wash it all down with but as they don't serve alchohol it wasn't to be. Never mind, give it a go.

Had a very pleasant bacon barm and it was a great stay with the milkshake. Loved my meal and will definitely be here soon!
