Taste of Nawaab St.Albans in St Albans

Used Trip Advisor to find this place. We were on an overnight stay from up North and never been to St Albans before. The restaurant is small and cozy. Staff were lovely and the food didn’t disappoint. Would definitely recommend.

So I tried this Indian after reading the glowing reviews calling it out as the best in st albans. I am frankly baffled by the accolades showered on this place. Ordered a chef recommended Karahi lamb and Chana masala. When the dishes arrived at the table I wondered when these dishes became a passata/tomato puree based dish...certainly not in my experience of Pakistani cuisine. Aside from this, the lamb was extremely tough...not possible to eat with nan. Even the chana chickpeas were hard. Left the lamb in the dish and a large uneaten piece on my plate....waiter did not even ask why I had not eaten my dish. Delivered the bill which was £27.00 without any hesitation or thought to ask if i had enjoyed my meal.bHonestly wouldn't eat here again...taking customers for granted with cheap/poor quality ingredients and a less than authentic cooking style.

Usually Indian restaurants have menus all very similar and their food is average and fine, in my opinion, but not exceptional. For that I have always gone to Southall for amazing food for many years. But Nawab is very different from the rest. Wow! We have bought take aways from here for many years. I adore their chicken Mumbai Shashlick Khazana so much that I struggle to order any thing else. This time my sons and I went to the restaurant for dinner and were blown away by the quality of the cooking. For starters we had an onion bhaji and a chilli garlic mushroom puri. Very highly recommended, the puri. Then we had a tilapia fish Machlee Shindoo Masala ( quite superb) , a Vegetable Balti and of course the Mumbai Shaslick Khazana again., with lemon rice and a garlic masala chilli nan. I am certainly not going anywhere else in St Albans for Indian food! Nawab is way out in front for such delicacy and power in the taste of their food, delightfully presented and packed with delicious spices. We all loved it. Can't wait for next time. Very, very very, highly recommended .

We're lucky enough to live close to the Samrat (formerly Taste of Nawab but with the same staff & menu) and have never been disappointed. Went there recently again with friends, one of whom is a talented cook of Pakistani food - she's a regular at the restaurant. I had a delicious Aloo Chat starter and an excellent King Prawn Dhansak main course. Have also recently been to their sister restaurant Novelle Lounge at the Quadrant in St. Albans - just as good with great food and service. Highly recommend both restaurants!

Can’t fault this place for food. My daughter had previously had a takeaway and rated it very highly - having sampled more than half a dozen Indian restaurants in St Albans. There were about ten of us and everyone reported that they had enjoyed their meals. I certainly don’t think I’ve had a better one locally, the onion bhajis swinging it and a really good chicken saag, slightly hotter than others I’ve had, bit too hot for me but still enjoyable. Service was friendly and waited for us to ask usually. Nice enough decor though small and basic and not fond of the fact that the restaurant door let cold air in everything someone came in and out for a takeaway or delivery. On that basis I might not eat in again, but it’s probably my first choice for takeaway if I don’t want a hot saag.

We’ve been here plenty before but this time I bought the lamb chops as a treat and now I’ve been forced to leave a review. WOW. The chops were so delicious! A generous portion and big juicy, flavoursome chops. If you’re reading this, eat here.

We just love this place. The food is superb. Every times it is so reliable and delightful. My favourite usually is the chicken version of Mumbai Shashlick Khazana. As more of the family were visiting, and they love Indian food, it had to be Nawab again. My daughter in law is used to very spicy food indeed and so she choose the Naga Lamb or Lamb Explosion! Most excellent. . We also had onion bhaji, a vegetable balti, vegetable biryani, mixed vegetable curry, mushroom bhaji, mushroom fried rice, lemon rice ( a new discovery), garlic masala chilli nan and a stuffed paratha. Amazingly it all disappeared

We were staying at Sopwell House and fancied an Indian meal. My wife found Nawaab a mile away from the previous trip advisor recommendations we decided to give it a go. We arrived to be given a warm welcome. We’re we disappointed ? ABSOLUTELY NOT !!! The food from start to finish was amazing. We could taste all the spices in each and every dish. Thank you Nawaab it was 10 out of 10. We will be back.

We hadn't eaten here in person for a long time due to the COVID lockdowns, etc but we returned recently for a curry night with friends and we weren't disappointed. Everything we ordered was delicious and we will certainly be returning.

I have just tried a new dish from Taste of Nawab - Doniya Bemisal Chicken - along with other usual accompaniments of course. This is such a tasty dish spicy but not overpoweringly hot - amazing flavours. I can honestly say that every time we order from them we get amazing food. Staff and home delivery guys are always so pleasant. Please give them a try you will not be disappointed.

Absolutely delicious!!! My Chicken Tikka Masala was thick, rich and aromatic. My son's had the Dansak, didn't taste theirs because i refused to share!! They loved theirs too. Will definitely order again.
