Taste of India in Highland

I wasn't impressed . The takka dahl was lacking in flavour. The poppadums tasted cheap and the pototoes and cauliflower didn't taste authetentic at all. Having spent time in India myself I don't consider this as authentic Indian food.

Great food and service! Loved the flavors and will definitely be back asap. I went with my girlfriend and her mother and we all enjoyed the food immensely. We were all pleasantly surprised by the quality. Highly recommended.

Lovely meal was had but unfortunately spoilt when went to pay. We were a party of 9 locals and all paying separately when I went up to pay for mine I was rudely told work out how much yourself you owe and come back and tell me and handed the check back and a menu. No need for the attitude from the person that was behind the bar area all night the other two waiters were lovely and couldn't do enough. Unfortunately because of that 1 person I won't be returning and also won't be recommending this place to go and eat to anyone in the future what is a shame as I work in the hospitality industry and always asked if I can recommend anywhere in the area for people to go and eat

Booking is often essential. Good food from the two dishes we tried. Typical Indian Restaurant surroundings. Its a little pricey for the offering, but not excessivley so.

Lovely welcome and prompt service. Tuesday night dinner for seven was a great hit with the family and the food was plentiful and freshly cooked. Been here very year on our holidays and always had a great experience.

As a tour guide I was recommended this place to bring passengers as its food is good. Honesty, the food was bland and overpriced for what you got. But the staff are outright terrible and clearly know that it's a high turnover of guests and unlikely to see them again. Terrible service pushy tactics to make you order more than you asked for, so be aware. The only way this place is open is because you have very limited options in that area. Service with a chip on its shoulder. I will not recommend this place again I'm actually disgusted and embarrassed by this place.

We weren’t sure what to expect when we arrived in this totally empty restaurant at lunch time but we were thrilled with our experience. We always find the Indian restaurants in the UK very good generally but this one was excellent. The food was all cooked perfectly and we enjoyed every mouthful. Very sorry we discovered this on our last day!

We walked in without a booking, restaurant was busy. Staff were quick to seat us, but took a while to get drinks and food order placed. Staff were friendly and food was delicious. Staff were efficient but could have used an additional member of staff, maybe.

Wir reservierten erst ca. 2 Stunden vor dem Besuch und freuten uns, noch einen Tisch zu bekommen. Nach Eintreffen bekamen wir zügig unseren Platz zugewiesen und die Aufnahme der Getränkebestellung erfolgte recht schnell. Leider dauerte es danach sehr lange bis die Aufnahme der Essenbestellung erfolgte. Gäste, die nach uns kamen und orderten, bekamen schon ihr Essen bevor wir überhaupt bestellen konnten. Die Speisen selbst waren geschmacklich nicht herausragend, aber in Ordnung. Negativ bewerten wir die Portion des Chicken Tikka Masala's, das sehr wenig Chicken enthielt und einer Hauptspeise von der Menge her nicht gerecht wurde. Etwas überrascht waren wir dann beim Bezahlen am Tresen. Der Chef fragte uns wo wir herkamen und bot uns dann, nachdem wir uns als Deutsche zu erkennen gaben, einen Rabatt von 5 Pfund auf die Rechnung von rund 65 Pfund an, wenn wir in bar bezahlen würden, was wir dann auch gemacht haben. Das hatten wir so in keinem anderen Restaurant in Schottland erlebt.

Called in for dinner without a reservation and immediately spoken to and offered a table. The surrounds were OK, a few flourescent lamps were flickering and on a cool evening the heating was supplied by a single calor-gas heater. On the way in you are greeted by some notices indicating "rules" such as minimum spend per person etc etc, not very welcoming. Of the two staff visible front-of-house the younger chap was very friendly and helpful. One of our meals was very good while the second was a little bland, maybe a poor selection. Overall the food was of a decent standard and if in the area again we wouldn't hesitate to return.

Signage at front clearly states, "Open Every Day (Including Bank Holidays) 12pm - 2pm and 5pm - 11pm". Having spotted this place earlier, we returned for lunch at 1.15pm to find it closed. Very frustrating.

First time visiting Skye (work trip), so I had no idea about restaurants and most i looked at were not open yet. I had some concerns about dining here due to so many negative comments about the staff. I have never submitted a review before, but I felt compelled to do so since my experience was the complete opposite. All the staff were incredibly helpful, welcoming and polite, food was excellent too !

This place is amazing. The service was incredible and the food just as good. We arrived without a booking on a busy Saturday night. The man in charge accommodated us quickly. The wait for food was slightly long, but we hadn't even noticed until the boss man came over with complimentary drinks to apologise for the delay. All the food we had was good and the drinks were flowing. It was reasonably priced too. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and has a great selection of drinks. We had a lovely time here and would come back.

Eaten here a few times when working nearby or on the way to a diving trip on Skye. Always been decent enough but ate there last week and it was honestly one of the nicest Indian meals I've had in a long time! Good sized portions too.

Our ferry sailing times had changed due to weather and we had to stay over in Broadford for a night, and as we drove up from Kyleakin to Broadford we passed this place which was open. After checking in to our hotel we headed back down in the car, and walked in without booking. The place was busy, as would be expected on a Saturday night, and the clientele appeared to be quite international too. We were given a window table straight away and whilst we perused the menu a couple of beers were ordered. The menu contained the 'classic' Indian fayre, but also a number of seafood dishes and house specials which looked interesting. As is customary, we started with poppadoms and a chutney tray - nothing unusual here to note. We then went straight onto mains - a Chicken Pathia with Chilli and Garlic Naan, a side order of Tarka Dhall. The Boss ordered Tandoori Chicken with a Bhuna sauce and pilau rice - she specifically asked for a Bhuna sauce rather than the regular accompaniment of veggie curry sauce. For me, the Chicken Pathia /Tarka Dhall is used as a benchmark, as I know what to expect. The food was very well presented, and expertly cooked, and the service was fast and efficient. The Naan was really good, just the right amount of charring to it, and very soft and pliable. Not over the top with the chilli, but enough to give a slight burn on the finish and a decent amount of ghee brushed on too. The Pathia was perfect!! A nice combination of heat, and sweet and sour. The coup de grace was the Tarka Dhall though - I have troughed some rubbish in my time in various Ruby Houses around the country, but this example was really sublime. Up there at the top of the list for Tarka Dhall - great flavours, excellent consistency, and had me dipping the Naan bread in more than the main course. I tested the other half's Tandoori chicken, and it was cooked to perfection. Nicely charred, and has decent flavour too. The Bhuna sauce was as expected, and the rice was as you would expect Pilau rice to be. As previously noted, the service was fast and efficient, and our meal set us back about 55 quid, inc a couple of large bottled beers, which is not unreasonable. The sixty-four thousand dollar question is - would I go back? Yes, most definitely. The next time I'm on Skye and in need of a decent ruby, this will be the place. Far, far better, and not to be confused with the other restaurant at Portree of the same name.

The restaurant wasn't really open as it was lunchtime and out of season but they cooked 2 meals for me. Both meals were very good, mine was one of the best curries I have ever had (and I've had a lot!)

I don't understand some of the reviews for this restaurant. I'm wondering if there is another restaurant called Taste of India that people are confusing with this place. We went expecting a rude reception and terrible food but no! The food is great. Really good, nicely spiced and full of flavour. Well presented. The service is nothing to shout about but nice enough, polite enough and efficient enough. And...we witnessed no racism. Addendum. I have since looked at reviews for a few Indian restaurants on Skye, including the Taste of India in Portree. It's most odd, all have a mix of both 5 and 1 stars. The food is described as delicious and disgusting. The staff are friendly and rude. And all of them are racist... I don't get it. Is there some sort of campaign being waged against them, or each other, or something else?

Having visited Skye on business for a couple of days, and after a long (foodless) day, arrived at this restaurant at 8.15pm (Tuesday night) for a well needed meal, which I was looking forward to. There were six other show-ups waiting as I arrived (all of whom were seated at tables when I was there), but I noted 14 free seats, and a good few people winding up their meals, so I was more than optimistic of getting a table. I waited a few minutes (they were busy), and a server came to see me (I assume the owner, as the other servers were in black shirts and trousers, and he was in a crumpled, sweaty looking brown polo shirt). I respectfully asked for a table for one, and he told me he was fully booked. I then asked him categorically if he was booked for the whole night (he closes at 11pm, and I was immediately smelling a strong smell of something that rhymes with "cruel twit"), and he confirmed that he had "absolutely no availability" for the rest of the night. I knew this was a downright lie. I left and called him back on the phone ten minutes later, asking for a table for two, which he offered me immediately. I then explained who I was and asked why I was turned away at his restaurant. He lied yet again, insisting that he had offered me a table at 9pm, when we talked in his restaurant earlier. I called him out on his lie, and he was adamant that he offered me a table at 9pm. if there's one thing worse than a liar, it's a "Cruel Twitting" liar. Absolutely disgusting and frankly cringe-worthy, embarrassing behaviour from him, and he absolutely should be shamed here on Tripadvisor. And precursing some kind of lame, defensive (lying) reply from this "restaurant", I was not dishevelled, drunk, abusive or anything else which would have precluded me from dining in his restaurant. Highly Not Recommended.

On the way to manically isle of skies we found a perfect Indian restaurant with good food , good service and wine imported from Australia and New Zealand

Delicious meal, fast and attentive service. Brilliant recommendation from gentleman taking our food order to give us an amazing variety of curries. The starters were phenomenal, would like to highlight the chicken pakoras that were seasoned to perfection. Ambience was also a 10/10 with the room being full of locals and tourists alike enjoying their dinner!

The rogan josh curry was excellent and full of flavor as well as the chicken jalfrezi. We got there early and we didn't even need to wait that long for our food to come. Staff seemed friendly enough however we did takeaway.

I went there with my family and was quite unpleasantly surprised to see the attitude of the staff, who was coarse to say the least. Even something as normal as asking for an extra plate for my daughter riled the waiter. And it still might have been worth it had the food been any good, but as it turned out, the food was quite bad. Better stay hungry than go eat here. Quite a terrible experience. Would never visit again.

Wir wollten nach unserer Ankunft im Ferienhaus essen und sind kurzentschlossen zu "Taste of India" marschiert. Als wir um 18:30 Uhr dort ankamen waren alle Tische besetzt und es warteten schon andere Gäste; der Manager hat uns jedoch sofort angeboten, uns für 19:30 Uhr einen Tisch zu reservieren. Die Wartezeit haben wir genutzt, um uns im Ort umzusehen und ein Stück spazieren zu gehen. Als wir eine Stunde später zurückkamen, war unser Tisch nach kurzer Wartezeit bereit. Das Essen selber war ausgezeichnet: Typisch indisch eben (schön pikant), schmackhaft, reichlich und appetitlich angerichtet; wir können wirklich nichts negatives feststellen! Die Räumlichkeiten sind nüchtern gestaltet und eher zweckmäßig. Was den Service angeht: absolut in Ordnung! Na gut, die Jungs überschlagen sich nicht gerade mit Freundlichkeit; aber das liegt wohl generell am Charakter der Inder: zurückhaltend & neutral. Ich glaube, das sollte man nicht mit Unfreundlichkeit verwechseln! Uns hat es jedenfalls gefallen und wir waren einen Tag später wieder vor Ort. Diesmal hat uns der Manager wiedererkannt und sogar ein Lächeln geschenkt! Fazit: hier kann man gut essen gehen!
