Taste Of China in Southampton

We have struggled for a year or two to find a decent Chinese. This takeaway was really recommended by a work colleague. It was on point. The show mein was EXACTly what I wanted. The szechuan sensation was fresh and tasty. The prawns were amazing. Nadi goreng was on point. It was hot tasty and amazing. The best in Southampton.

I ordered from here at 1730pm this evening for delivery. The driver arrived at my NHS workplace and called me. I missed the call but called straight back within 5 seconds. I was told the driver was gone to his next order and he would be back with me within 10 minutes. After 40 minutes, I called again. The owner told me the traffic was too bad to send the driver back and stated he was cancelling the order. When I attempted to reason with him that it would take me much longer now to order again and I had to complete the rest of my shift without food and why he had advised 10 minutes only then to cancel, he became aggressive. He said he never delivers to NHS premises as it is too much hassle. That's his prerogative but why take my order in the first place and deliver previous orders if it was too much hassle? I then asked him how I would get my refund and he slammed the phone down. When I advised I would leave a bad review for this experience, he said he would get it removed no matter what forum it was on. Seriously? I wouldn't bother. Their attitude and aggression is completely unnecessary.

Never ordered from them before , delivery arrived on time was lovely and hot , have to say its the best Chinese I've had in a long time . Will definitely order again

Always use this Chinese, after a long day at work for my partner & I we ordered our usual and waited for our food along with our son. The food didn’t show up, called the takeaway for the delivery driver to say he’d delivered our food, well most certainly not to us! No one called our buzzer or knocked our door, the takeaway made us feel to be liars on the phone & insisted it had been delivered to us. This simply wasn’t the case and if the driver had delivered it to a flat here, it most definitely wasn’t to ours! As long term customers, it’s a shame for us to experience this and unfortunately we won’t ever be ordering again.

By far the best Chinese around! I’ve only visited here as a friend recommended it to me and haven’t looked back since! Never a bad experience and great portion sizes

Been using these guys for years. The best Chinese takeaway in Southampton in my opinion. Strongly recommended you go off the beaten track with these guys. They do great versions of old favourites but they shine in the Chef's specials department. Their stir-fried pork belly in hot sauce is the most delicious dish but there are other excellent dishes you should try from the menu. The only thing that lets them down at times is their fluctuating delivery service. Depending on which driver you get it's either excellent or exasperating. It helps to be patient with these guys too as you can have long wait times but the food is always excellent when it arrives.

Best Chinese had so far in town! They delivered our hot food a good 20 minutes before time and kept me posted by sms. Their portions are so generous! I ordered a small egg fried rice but got a large portion (or seemed like it, also for the money paid, it was really a big portion!). I asked them to make my egg fried rice hot and spicy, and boy did they change the flavour of it to accommodate my request! It was FAB!! Had a subtle pepper taste which I LOVED! We also ordered Singapore Rice and Hot Chili Chicken. We loved the Hot Chili Chicken. Had a sweet taste, which we do not always prefer, but these guys know how to perfectly balance the sweet flavour with the hot chillies. They even gave us a bag full of free crackers, which is always always great!Definitely ordering from them the next time we crave for Chinese!Thank you, Chef! Thank you, delivery man! The service is great & the food is fresh & tasty, they also have authentic Chinese dishes. Since moving to Southampton Taste of China is my ‘go to’ Chinese takeaway of choice.

Standard Chinglish takeaway (101 things to do with a stir fry, but still no *real* Chinese food). The Yung Chow fried rice was standard, the sweet and sour pork Hong Kong style good as was the chicken. Pleasant and efficient young man serving who spoke English for a change.

I bought the takeaway,set menu F, for a family event. I turned up at 7.00 but the food was 10 minutes late and there were no prawn crackers. Not a huge problem. Its a very busy takeaway. V. popular. The staff were v. busy but polite.When we got the food home we were v pleased with it. A large amount of duck for the pancakes. The seaweed was light and crisp. We enjoyed it.

The food is absolutely delicious! really great price. Only downside is if you collect it in store it does take a while but then again its a restaurent so thats understandable.

Rids cut into little pieces, dry and gristly. Used to be a good takeaway now gone really down hill. Delivery is either late or really early.

Stayed at our sons dog sitting and ordered a take away from here. WOW! This meal was incredible. Everything cooked beautifully, fresh ingredients, crispy veg, generous portion size. Guy on the phone polite and patient, delivery guy friendly and apologised for being a little late (Saturday night after 9pm so very busy) I actually phoned them back after the meal to praise them, I felt that strongly. The guy was very gratuitous and said this is what they aim for. Very very impressed. Only complaint is we live in Locks Heath and although still SO postcode, think it's out of their delivery area. Just as well. However, will be offering to dog sit at our Sons a bit more! Well done all.

Tried this take away for the first time, it’s safe to say I won’t be ordering again. Spent 10-15 minutes on the phone to the driver describing where I live even though it’s on a main road. Food finally turned up and was stone cold, phoned the shop where I was told it’s impossible it’s cold like I was lying, microwaves it and the disappointment when I tucked into my tasteless watery chicken chow mien was horrid shredded beef wasn’t any better either and my sweet and sour sauce poured out with a lump in the middle ( I don’t think they fully defrosted it before sending it out. Very disappointed.

"taste of China" located on St Mary's street in southampton just" opposite the college is a great place to visit or place an order for delivery! i live in portswood southampton. and have to visit an elderly aunt" in Shirley' southampton on a daily basis.. and although it's about a 3-mile radius between st Marys street and shirley that's no barrier.. they'll still' deliver, I've eaten their foods for around 9-years and haven't ever had an issue. large portions. reasonable prices. and freebies on large orders. the food is great the staff are polite' why not try it tonight!

Ordered food at 4.30pm to have delivered at 8.30pm. Food was 45 min late..... cold and disgusting. Couldn't eat mine as it was past certain certain due to having op next day so ended up with toast. Would not recommend this place to anyone and thankyou for upsetting my evening and house hold!!!!!

Cold food, chicken balls in the shape of a sausage and if that's what china tastes like ....... than we'll china isn't very tasty , also the time it took them to deliver I might as well have ordered directly from china

No es suficiente. I hora y 25 minutos después de que pedimos. Llamó por teléfono dos veces Vivimos a 12 minutos en coche. (Se puede proporcionar una imagen de la ruta de navegación por satélite en el punto de la noche anterior) Se culpó al tráfico de fútbol a pesar de que el partido terminó una hora antes. La comida estaba caliente, que era lo mínimo que esperaba, la comida caliente también demostró que probablemente no se habían ido cuando llamé a la hora, ya que estoy seguro de que después de 25 minutos podría haberse enfriado. Food took 1h45 to arrive, with not so much as a text to say it was going to be more than half an hour late. I eventually had to phone to chase it. Food itself was ok, but I was pretty fed up by then, which doesn't make for a relaxing meal.

Food was lovely. But the driver took advantage of me being poorly (can't speak) and having children being children at the wrong time, too short change me. I ended up paying £2 more for for the food than I should

Absolute disaster. 80min delivery waiting time to then still be half an hour after that. Food was cold and over cooked. Sent me hoisin sauce instead of BBQ which completely ruined what was salvaged. Overall, worst Chinese I've ever ordered.

The food is really good, they get very busy sometimes and might be a short delay with the delivery but the food worth waiting for a few extra minutes

What you'd expect from an english chinese. Sugar salt fat, delicious.

Despite being delivered late food was hot and there was so much meat in the curry. My chow mein wasn’t greasy like a lot are which was great! The starters came in a box together (bar ribs) which was really cool only thing I would change is putting the seaweed in its own box. The best Chinese I have had in a LONG! Time and a new favourite

Special fried rice and dry barbecue ribs were delicious as always (the ribs have to be the best ive ever tasted, super tender) the chicken balls were also good and came with a small bucket of sauce, but they were a little greasy and were more like giant nuggets/fingers rather than balls. Will definitely order again!

Got a text to say food was on way at 6.10, never turnt up til 6.55, 45mins to deliver? Food was cold and starchy and had no free drink or spring rolls! Will not be ordering again! Plates are still full on the side in kitchen where people won't eat it

Watch out if you are ordering the fruity spare ribs as they come as small gristly chunks which appear to have been cut from the end of spare ribs. Not what i wanted, but the rest of the meal was great.
