Taste Of China in Harrow

My family and I were visiting from the North and decided Saturday would be Chinese food. This restaurant has everything going for it. A warm genuine welcome with a smile at the door. When we were seated and given time to make our choices from the food and drinks menu the staff were so friendly and attentive. The food was delicious especially the deep fried squid, honey roasted ribs, fancy chicken and the spring rolls. Chinese cuisine is my favourite and was wondering if a high street restaurant would be able to deliver. It did that and more. Well presented food, bright but subtle decor. We picked too many items, a lovely server told us that she would give us containers to take home with us before we even asked. My family really enjoyed our evening. The prices reflect the high quality menu. The next time I come to London, I will definitely be coming back and will also tell others about this amazing restaurant.

I went to Tsate of China resturant this was rommended by a local taxi driver. I found decor old and tired and rundown. They have Mandatory surcharge of 12.5% added to your food bill, this is disgrace as food is already over priced. The quality of food is not great. We ordered 2 dishes and a portion of spring rolls, this cost us £60.I would not be going to this place again, expensive, average food, decor old, service on great.

I rang the restaurant to double check my booking for 2people at 8pm was confirmed for few days time. To my surprise the conversation took a turn in asking me to "try and arrive earlier" as last orders are at 9pm as the restaurant closes at 10pm. How does this make any sense??I've been coming here for years and I'm telling you now this is not how you talk a customer who is paying for food and simply wants a relaxing meal. Considering once you order food it is normally at your table within 5mins, why do I need to order at 9pm for 10pm closure. I suggest you rethink how you operate as you will continue to lose more loyal customers in the process! #bookingcancelled

Arrogant and treat paying customers very poorly. Tried several times to make contact at the weekend to place an order... No response and no message to advise customers (on telephone or website) that they're closed/not taking orders. Over priced for mediocre food also. Will lose more custom at this rate

I was sick after eating the crispy beef on Valentine's Day. What a loss. My partner didn't enjoy the meal either. Very disappointing.

Good Chinese food with brisk efficient service, with no friendly banter. Unusual food, Chinese style frogs legs for example, alongside your familiar staples. In a good position in Harrow town centre it usually seems busy. I’ve been once or twice and had take away as well. Always reliably good food. Nothing spectacular but good food. Decent price. Standard Chinese restaurant fare.

I have NEVER written a restaurant review before but my experience tonight has forced me to.We booked a table for a meal with my extended family.The service was truly terrible with us waiting for over 45 mins for our Peking duck course. Then when it arrived, the duck was cold.We then waited another 45 minutes for our mains, had enough and left.The staff really didn’t seem to care. Not good at all...

So I have been coming here for years, and I can't fault the food, that has always been great.However I tried to call up yesterday (Thursday) for a table for 2, everytime I've called up before there's never been an issue they're never THAT busy to fit 2 people in.Around 8.10 I called up and they said they are fully booked, I said really? I've come of Thursday before and its never fully filled up, she said yeah started to pause a lot more when I started asking questions, she then in a nervous voice said its since they put a 10pm closure, to which i said, when is the last order, she said 9, and I said if I turn up you're telling me there's no seats available to dine in, even though its 50 minutes before last order, she started making up excuses.I feel since this place has been taken over by a new owner, the staff who were employed before have been Kept on but have changed how they run things and frankly it isn't for the better.On another occasion my other half called up for a takeaway, to which is was told they're not doing takeaways (we've ordered takeaways loads of times) and then when I called back and asked to speak to the owner, they managed to suddenly allow a takeaway order

Got a takeaway from here recently, and had a great time! Fast delivery, reasonable price and great tasting food as always. Will order again from here soon!

I have been coming here for years with my family, went back yesterday, and there is a new owner who has totally ruined the restaurant, such a shame. AVOID.The food was disgusting, no taste apart from lots of salt. I can honestly make much better Chinese food myself at home.The whole restaurant is now very low-end and tacky. Where there were once linen table cloths, there are now red paper coverings which you see at children's birthday parties. And the table cloths aren't even big enough to cover a small table, so they have to join a few together. Chopsticks aren't laid on the tables anymore as standard. It is now a low-end no-frills restaurant.The portions have shrunk under the new owner to minuscule amounts whilst the prices have gone up. You'd be better off for the same price going to a posh Chinese restaurant in Central London!And to top it off, the staff are miserable, you can tell they do not like working for the new owner from the comments they were making.

Not welcoming, One of the orders was very salty, I do not recommend it, not freshly made food. We had bad experience. We will never go back to this restaurant.

We were bitterly disappointed with what we got from our order. Most of the dishes were nothing like we’ve ever had before :- the crispy duck was served with a teriyaki sauce not plum or hoisin. The duck itself appeared to have been previously frozen (that was the impression I don’t know if it’s accurate), the amused chicken was having A laugh on us , the egg fried rice was okay , the chicken with black bean was hunt the chicken the dish comprised mainly of onions peppers and black bean sauce with three very flat slivers of chicken. On top of this the owner had offered me personally a 15% discount Which I took advantage of , thankfully ,as I’d have been really annoyed at having paid 1p more for what we got. Don’t waste your money or time going there

Awful food! I've been going here for over 12 years and for whatever reason the food has completely gone down hill and the prices higher. Trying to take short cuts with simple things like sweet and sour sauce which is now watery. Sesame toast is just disgusting, used to be my favourite starter. It's so dry now and it's like they're using Smash instead of real potatoes. A friend got chicken satay which was dry and tasteless. Overall I think there's new management and the place is really not worth the money you pay. Honestly you're better off with fish and chips!!

The restaurant is always busy which is a good sign so it's vital to book if you want to be sure of a table. The restaurant has a very extensive menu and caters for all tastes. Good selection of drinks and very helpful and friendly staff.

We ordered our Saturday night take away from here for the first time last night. I ordered the Sweet & Sour Chicken, Chicken in Black Bean Sauce, Prawn in Thai Curry, Chicken Chow Mein and Special fried rice. The food arrived within good time, nice and hot. All of the fishes were cooked perfectly and tasted incredible. The only critic would be that usually chinese take aways send complementary prawn crackers for orders over £30. We spent around £55 and they didn't send any which was disappointing. That is just a minor fault though, the food is amazing regardless.

We eat there a lot in the restaurant but disappointed with the takeaway service we tried today where they left out the vegetables to go with the pancake wrap and also gave only one portion of pancake wraps when we had ordered two. The fried broccoli and courgettes were soggy also when we got home.

Visited this restaurant in December and was delighted with the food, service and ambience. The menu has an extensive range of Chinese/Asian cuisine and the standard is first class. There were plenty of round tables making socializing so much easier. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Im chinese and have eaten in many chinese restaurants in this country over the last 10 years. I believe I have encountered the worst hot and sour soup today. Soup was tasting like soy sauce. Couldnt even bear drinking more than a small spoonful so sent it back to the kitchen. Manager refused to acknowledge problem with the soup and insisted we paid for the soup at the end - £5 for that. The remaining dishes were below average and not at all authentic, worse than food I get from chinese takeout places. Waitress took forever to serve water (I know we don't pay for that, but seriously does it need 3 reminders before it could be served....) I would NEVER EVER come back to this restaurant.

Dined here the other Friday evening. Food OK service OK. If you had followed recent reviews it’s unlikely you would have made the visit.. The major issue was targeted against one female waitress.staff. Either they were OK or they were not working the night we visited. The food was nothing exceptional but I have eaten a lot worse. We would not rush back but would mind repeating the experience.

We've been to this restaurant a few times and the food has been consistently good. Lots of staff with the boss lady reigning from beside the till. Staff good humoured and the more mature waitress who served us was very knowing and shared some smiles wihth us. Food was great as usual, Can't fault the place, do try it, it's well worth a visit

During a busy working week in London, our group of four decided on a Chinese sit down meal.

Thanks to indian customer the place is still in business, went for lunch on Sunday with my family, I have been going to this place for over 32 years as I have moved away 100 miles from Harrow , I decided to try it after last I visited in 2017, small portion, overpriced and why add on 10% service charge, when we shop at shops do they add 10% service charge. £100.00 pound wasted on below average food. Never will go again.

Avoid unless you want to spend a huge amount of money for below average food. Thank you for ruining our evening and dining experience. There are better places in Harrow for a lot less money and with better quality food. Never again.

If you catch this restaurant at first service either at lunch or dinner you can have the chef cook for you !

Great vegan options, I reccomend the mock duck wraps and mock satay chicken. I order from here regularly and visited the restaurant, I'd highly recommended it!

I have been coming here since my teens, and now visit with my colleagues from work and family. The food really is very good, forget your experiences of Chinese takeaways - that is not on a level of comparison - go to the Taste of China and see what good food is all about.

We were a large group for dinner. The restaurant was busy on a Sunday night.

Probably the best oriental meal our family have ever eaten! The cleanliness, service, welcome and food were all an outstanding experience! Catherine was a 5 star server, and the speed of service was actually amazing! Thank you Taste of China for the best meal!

Ambiance is really nice and the food is to die for! We always opt to have the Vegetarian Crispy Duck and it never fails to amaze me. Taste of the food has been consistent for years and this is what clearly makes it an amazing place.for repeat business. A little overpriced but I guess you get what you pay for! Definitely will continue to return.

Very poor quality food, duck that was slightly off, chicken barely edible swimming in dark sauce, mixed vegetable that was mostly the cheapest one could buy and not suitable as a dish in itself and described as mixed vegetable and lumpy greasy rice.

Regular customer for 25+ years was one of my favourite restaurants. Service and food has progressively been getting worse. Went there in March met new owners who absolutely took on board this restaurant has been in trouble and they are working on a turn around, I was asked to give it another chance .... I did this evening highly disappointed service was poor staff really not attention had to keep trying to get service. For poor service and average food prices are extortion for Harrow £55.00 for two people both vegetarians and only had starters. This is my last time to this restaurant.

I come at least twice a month and the food is always nice!

I like this restaurant, one thing that I'm not happy with is that the portions ordered for take away are smaller compared to my previous orders. I recommend it after all!

I really can’t put into words how great the food is, it’s consistently a 10/10. One of London’s hidden gems. The service is always good, staff are always polite and even on the busiest of evenings they provide that one on one care to make sure your evening is exquisite.

I'm a regular at this restaurant and have been dining here for years. Although it has recently changed ownership, during my most recent visit I was delighted to find a rejuvenated interior, and the new owner and staff were as welcoming as ever. Needless to say, the food has remained excellent: as a vegetarian, the wide range of vegetarian dishes is the reason why Taste of China has remained a family favourite all these years. One downside, if any, is that the prices, whilst unchanged, are slightly on the high side - but then again, you get what you pay for and more here. I also recently noticed it is now listed on Deliveroo, although I'd personally prefer to eat in every time for the wonderful hospitality and the ambience!

Had recently gone for a meal with some friends and was incredibly impressed with the quality of the food, especially the vegetarian crispy duck and ma-po tofu. I'm used to ma-po with minced pork rather than beef but it was incredibly flavourful so I would definitely recommend that. The staff were also very helpful in helping us choose some dishes as we wanted a mix of meat and vegetarian dishes. Overall, decent prices, great portion sizes and wonderful food. I look forward to going back again!

Amazing food and staff. Staff were easily able to cater to different types of diets as myself and others were vegan or vegetarian. Highly recommend visiting the restaurant, definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in Harrow and one of the best crispy duck dishes I have ever tasted!

It was amazing. Food was delicious, such a good variety. Service was friendly, I received a warm welcome and was well catered for. Being vegetarian there were plenty of options. I will definitely come again and bring my friends and family along since the atmosphere was great!

Been a regular here for literally decades, however not anymore, after a massive hike in prices, so we will be going elsewhere.

Visited last Saturday for dinner, we were a group of 6. We looked forward to what was described as fine dinning. This was not fine dinning. The service was awful and the food was below average and very salty. A Service charge was added to an already very expensive prices. Avoid and look for a better place.

The new manager is highly obnoxious and rude whilst she has got rid of good staff and kept ones who are poor at their jobs. We watched our food get taken to other tables numerous times and sent back towards us once discovered it was wrong. They can't speak English very well and so expressing concerns was even hard. Portions and quality have gotten poorer whilst prices have risen... greedy.

Called in on a stopover in Harrow, food was beautiful and served very swiftly... loved it... would certainly return again

We went as a family for Mother’s Day last night. Our visit was after several years. Food quality was as expected and reasonable. Service was fast although on a couple of occasions wrong order was served but i think it was purely down to the fact that the restaurant was full and the waiters were really fire fighting. We 4 of us were seated by a wall on a very small round table ideal for two people. We were 3 adults and a teen aged boy. In order to give waiters room for moving around we were our chairs placed in a very awkward position. Food was good but dining experience wasn’t I am afraid. It was disappointing because we had pre-booked and were really looking forward.

Had not been for many years and was a bit disappointed to be honest. Lost some of its' atmosphere and thought the food was rather unspecial for the price. Cannot say it wasn't good, but, it was a bit ordinary. However, it was clean and the staff were pleasant enough - just would not rush back for a special occasion.

I had been coming here for 20 years and this is the first time that the food was so awful. Food was oily and didn’t taste freshly prepared. A real shame as the food used to be very flavourful and tasty.

I took my daughter to this restaurant and we had a lovely experience - the food was delicious and the service was attentive without being imposing. A group of us, 11, went for dinner tonight. From the outset the orders were wrong. Starting with 8 beers we didn’t order through to starters coming at different times and my wife’s starter coming after everyone had finished there’s. The food was tasty but there were some dishes that didn’t arrive and we had to tell them to take them off the bill. Such a shame as there were too many staff dealing with us and that’s where the confusion lay. I’m sure a smaller group would be better suited.

We had lunch at Taste of China last Saturday. The food was delicious! I have eaten here before but it's been a while but i wasn't disappointed. If you want tasty authentic food you must go there. Try their dumplings. I havent had that before. Most unusual.

I am so very shocked at the new management and how dopey and unfriendly they are, so clueless about how to treat paying customers! The service was so bad. I cant express it. Main meat courses with lot of glutamate and the beef meat , kind of indetermined . Avoid this place if you want to avoid tummyheache!!

People were very kind and helpful with suggestions on the menu, the ambient was very clean and the food was proper from China. Very traditional restaurant. My Chinese`s friends also recommend.

Not impressed with overall ambiance, considering the prices. Restaurant always cold, staff Jackie Chan) look a like constantly patroll up and down the aisle. Makes you feel uncomfortable. My prawns in my rice had poo in their backs (chq your prawns when you order a rice. 2.40 for a ginger ale, poor choice of soft drinks, plus ask for a Chinese curry, and was offered a Thai curry sauce with curry pieces. Wat Chinese doesn't do a good curry. T of C needs to refurbish, revise their menus. It's about time!

The food is faultless - truly authentic chinese. The black bean tofu is notably great and it goes really well with ginger rice. The waiters don't converse more than they need to which is good if you want to be left alone to the main act. Overall, it is a pleasant experience, it should be noted however that the food is only recommended eating in, if you get a takeaway the quality definitely goes down.

This place is great for vegetarians and we go quite often. There is a very big choice and the portions are generous. It’s quite possible to get stuffed on just the starters 😜 Worth booking in advance as always busy

Taste of China is a very popular Chinese restaurant with a large and varied menu. The restaurant is big, with 3 connected rooms. The menu has a wide range of options, including set menus and vegetarian options. The set menus are reasonably priced and the portions are generous. The quality of the food is good and service was efficient and friendly. Parking is easy, with the Debenhams short stay car park across the road.

Having dined here for over 20 years I decided to treat my family for my 50th birthday.

We ordered some starters and some mixed seafood with fried noodles and it was tasteless. Very bad quality for an overpriced menu. Will never go again and we stronfly recommend to avoid this place. Proper rip off.

Food was average, 15% service charge and upset stomach next day. They refused to take the service charge off as there was six of us.

The food was meh. I ordered the thai chilly chicken and it was average. Way too much sweet sauce, and no chilly or spice of any kind. The chicken was bland. My friends ordered some other dishes (more chicken, noodles and rice etc) and everything was standard. A main course for one is between 8- 13 quid so if you're looking to waste that much then make sure to come here. there are other restaurants that would do better food for a similar price. Wouldn't bother coming

Coming from Malaysia it was a delight having a meal here as the food was authentic and absolutely delicious with superb Vegetarian options. And their chili ..... a taste of home! Very very good food!

We went there for my wife's birthday and had a menu for two. It would have served 2 more people too!. There were about 4 courses and all were good. The service was excellent. It is a popular place as it soon filled up even on a Tuesday evening mostly with locals and some were obviously regular customers. The surroundings are pleasant too. I have no hesitation in recommending it. I seems to have cheaper set menus than some of the local competition too.

We walked in at about 6.15pm one Sunday evening. The Restsurant had only been open for about 15 minutes, yet it was already busy and got busier as time went on. This is clearly a very popular place among locals, despite being on the more expensive side. This did not effect the service or the quality of the food one iota. In fact everything about this visit was better than before. We were asked if we wanted to wait between courses which was great as our intention was to have a leisurely meal out.

One of our elderly friends felt very down last week so we decided to take him for a meal on Sunday to cheer him up. It was a bit of round trip for us from Surrey to Wembley and then the Taste of China in Harrow. We have been going there for 20 years, we used to go regularly as a group of nine but apart from my friend everyone has moved to other parts of the country including me.

Used to come here a lot over the past ten years thinking of this as my favourite place for a Chinese. In the past, it was known for good food but not so great service and also for being costly.

Prices compared to portion size is a ridiculous. This restaurant is located in Harrow, the prices should correlate.

We visited this establishment as part of our weekend away in London and it was a very good experience, directly across the road from the hotel and we did not need to book.

Located in central Harrow / easy to get to with bus stops near by.

Great Chinese food! If you like duck- try the crispy aromatic duck. Portions are not US style and more manageable. Food is taste and lots of choice. Sizzling dishes are a treat. one thing to note is that I have noticed many of the restaurants are using less salt (understandably) in the food so there is a difference. However, with that said, I was not at all disappointed again with the food. highly recommended and as stated, I have never been disappointed here. Infact my teens now love this place when we visit!

Went for a birthday treat in the evening on Sunday had two other tables with customers.

That was the worst special fried rice with curry sauce I’ve had in my life I work all over the country and I can honestly say that That was the worst meal I’ve had a Chinese

Lovely place to go as family occasion lots of Vegetarian meal choice and main they also serve nut free food the waiters were very helpful and look after us as my daughter has nut allergy

Love this place. Visit often when craving Chinese. The food is very good. Sweet corn is nice, along with the crispy veg duck is nice and my fav is the broccoli. Although for the price it's very expensive. The service is lovely. Definitely try this place out if you enjoy Chinese food!

I was expecting hardly any choice for vegetarians but was pleasantly surprised. Nice sweet and sour tofu dish. Good portion sizes.

We went as a group of four to have good and authentic Chinese food. We were thoroughly disappointed with the food as well as service. The waiters would literally wait near the table to clear the plates even before we finished eating. And the cleaner, armed with a vacuum cleaner was waiting, raring to take off even before we left....

My wife and enjoyed reasonable priced outstanding chinese meal at a reasonable price. Good service white tablecloth. Pleasant right next to the Hilton Doubletree

I took my elderly mother and family to celebrate our mum, grand mother and great grandmother's birthday. We had a wonderful time. Food was supberb. Best sea bass we have ever tried. The staff were so attentive towards my mother - especially Vivien. She couldn't do enough for my mother. We were made to feel very special. The icing so to speak was when they came out with a candle on an ice cream sundae singing happy birthday. Totally unexpected! By far the best Chinese restaurant. Can't wait to go again! Khalda

Been going here for years. Best Chinese you can get. Great prices and looks lovely inside too. Staff are very thorough and hospitable.

I am a regular at this restaurant only because the food is so tasty. There are plenty of vegetarian options and the service is so quick. The only downfall of the place is that the staff are miserable/always looks unhappy.

A group of seven of us went there after spending the whole day at a martial arts tournament so were fairly hungry. The food was ordered and arrived in a reasonable time as did the drinks. Everyone seemed to enjoy the various dishes but the service was terrible. Not one smile between any of the staff that 'looked after' us. Dishes, when they were served were just placed on the table rather than in front of the individual that ordered them. No mention of when the missing couple of dishes were going to arrive so we didn't know whether to start so the food didn't get cold or be polite and wait.

Went here for dinner. Great food quality, and good service as well! Were seated at a good place and had a great time. Would definitely recommend!
