Jai Durga Mahal in Harrow

I used to visit regularly. Haven't been for a while asmy last few visits they added too much salt to the food. I thought I'd try it again and specifically asked for less spicy and less salt. Unfortunately it wasn't good. It needs a refresh the place looks tired. The staff outfits are a little scruffy and just a little more cleaning needed in my opinion. The chilli garlic mogo was dry inside and the sauce too spicy - like super hot. The chilli paneer extra salty. The chefs need to taste test before sending it. Especially with all the excellent competition around now. It's a shame because I loved this place when the owner was doing the cooking.

Take away few times from here it keeps varying in taste sometimes good sometimes okay Today was no onion no garlic take away and everything was pretty nice even the naan was so soft

Garlic naan was tasteless and dry. Great portion size from the chilli paneer but very tough to chew.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Jai Durga Mahal in North Harrow, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious and bursting with flavours – every dish we tried was a culinary delight. What made the evening even more special was our wonderful waiter, who was incredibly friendly, helpful, and kind. Her service and warm demeanour truly enhanced our dining experience. I highly recommend Jai Durga Mahal for anyone looking for delicious food and outstanding service. We'll definitely be back!

Restaurant very waiting every time not good service

We ordered two large dishes takeaway. When we got home we saw they were small. We phoned to ask about this. The lady refused to give us her name, denied making a mistake and put the phone down on us.

Our recent visit toJai Durga Mahal again was a wonderful experience. Excellent food and atmosphere of a down to earth, no fuss dinning venue. Highly recommended👍.

Really disappointed and shocked at their audacity of charging £4.50 for a fresh lime soda that came in a small coffee cup. Complete rip off and stinks of ultimate profiteering. The staff even had the cheek to try and tell me it was the ingredients that determined the high price. It lime, soda water and sugar love.

Got a takeaway from hear been coming hear many years now but they have gone down hill especially customs service is non existence, I bought a big order but the chick peas I got where uncooked. I had 2 portion, when I phone up they agreed they had a problem with there suppliers but didn't want to give me a refund on the 2 portion let alone my hole order in the end they said next time I come and I can upgrade a small portion to a large for two dishes this I believe is embarrassing. They quality off food has also reduced, Won't be going back after been loyal customer for over 15years.

One of the best food for the vegetarian to have a lovely time with family chilli chips, crispy bhajia, chilli paneer and pizza taste is sizzling and have a great juices to go on with food.Overall suggests everyone to have there ambience Indian taste food at here

Hot and quick delivery Great taste

A good joint for indian dishes. Tried chilli paneer , samosa chat. Chilli paneer was good. But The samosa chat had those small cocktail flat samosa pieces in what looked like a potato salad topped with yogurt and chutneys. This was different. Not the typical samosa chat. Will try other dishes if i visit againb

Ordered on Uber eat, delivery was fast but disappointed with quality of food. Chilli paneer apparently best selling item was most disappointing, paneer cubes were coated with just soya souce, lacking seasoning and flavors. Pav bhaji was equally bad. Will not recommend this restaurant.

Amazing Indian veggie food. Very Delicious and well done, especially home home made pizzas. Also Loved the friendly staff and quick service. However place is a little small and parking can become an issue if you’re driving.

This place hits different. It's nice for sure. A few dishes I got that were great. I would definitely go back. Tried the pizza and it was great people were walking in to pick up pizza while I was eating in. So I thought I'll try one. Every dish I tried was good enough.

Great Indian food options, especially if you are looking for authentic Indian food.

Unfortunately having heard quite good reviews and deciding to try this place we were not that impressed. The place itself is back to back with chairs, very small and stuffy. The portion sizes were very small for the price, we even questioned the 'large' portion size which included two bowls of chutney with the okra fries on the same plate. We found the curry quite salty and again very small in portion for the price. Overall we will not be coming here again as the value for money, quality and ambience was hugely lacking. On a good note, the vegetarian pizza we ordered was good with nice crunchy toppings, sauce and crispy base despite the questionable mention of cauliflower topping on the menu!

Tasty vegetarian food. Friendly staff. Bit stuffy. Parking can be a problem. 15.7.23 Tasty food but poor ventilation with the smoke from cooking 🍳 which needs to be extracted from the dining area!

Enjoyed Indo-chinese after a long time

Fantastic food, very helpful staff. Went there with the family, very welcoming providing service with a smile. Ordered crispy bhaiya, generous portion for the family, really tasty. I had the chilli paneer, the Mrs ordered the Tofu, both had Singapore fried rice. 100% authentic, fresh and delicious. The kids enjoyed couple of Indo-Chinese dishes with large last and fruit juices. Wonderfull experience. Will be visiting again.

Best PIZZA in town. Had the Vegetarian Supreme and the Vegetarian Volcano. Freshly made dough with fresh vegetable. Best PIZZA we had. Nice friendly staff.

This is my favourite restaurant. We have been going here for 10 years now and had never had a bad experience. The food is yum and you don't have to wait that long. The only bad things is that sometimes the portion sizes can fluctuate.I would highly recommend this place.

Very low quality: they use salt as the main ingredient in all dishes and it’s all extremely spicy. Low quality oils being used. The Sudbury branch is pretty much the same, used to be good but now they cutting corners to save money to expand etc from what I see. Won’t be coming again.

The food is not great, service had to keep asking for basic things. Requested mild food and starters were extremely spicy so requested mild on mains and that was awfully bland. They don't understand what customer requests. Do not make a mistake of ordering Biryani that is basically just mix veg Saak in their main menu topped up with standard normal rice not even Basmati.

Excellent food all freshly made

Crispy tofu and crispy broccoli are the most banging dishes. 10/10 would recommend but eat it fresh there not takeaway as the heat and steam in the takeaway containers make it less crispy. Best lunch place ever.

17/2/23 - had ordered a pizza from Jai Durga Mahal. Initially I ordered via Ubereats, but as the order was not collected for very long, I cancelled the order and placed a new order via deliveroo. When I received my pizza, it was very obvious from the look of it and on the first bite, that the pizza had been reheated. The crust was hard and the cheese very dry. I placed the order at 8.42pm and received it at 9.01pm. How can a pizza be made and delivered from North Harrow to Hatch End within q9 minutes? So disgusted with ghe service! 100% the previous order was reheated and passed on to me. 9/2/23 - I ordered Paneer Butter Masala today. It is too salty and too sour. I didn't at all enjoy it. Very disappointed.

Ordered for take away large crispy bhajias and large mogo. Requested mogo to be crispy.Before leaving the restaurant I was assured that the mongo was a large portion. I called the restaurant to complain that the mogo was not cooked well and the portion was not large. Also the crispy bhajias were precooked and refried. The chef was rude and abusive.

Great home cooked style vegetarian food

A lady just put the phone down on me when I was asking for allergen information. Hasn’t bothered to call me back, just hung up on me. Very rude. Was close to placing an order but will not buy from here again.

Have been having the food here for years. Appearances are deceiving and behind the very ordinary and unappealing exterior is served the most fantastic selection of indo Chinese foods. Have been ordering the chilli tofu here on a regular basis and am never disappointed. Can make the food very spicy too which is an added bonus. Don't expect any ambience but go for the food

Ordered four curries for delivery which all had the same gravy and identical in flavours, tasteless. The naan weren't fresh. And the starters were okay but not to a satisfactory standard. Would not oreder main again.

They gave us the wrong order and charged us incorrectly, we wasted over an hour going back and forth, when we rang to say they gave us the wrong order all they cared about was that we pay more and come back immediately to pick up our order which was sitting there for over 1 hour.

Very good and homely taste esp the Thali. Gives a fulfilment after eating. Kids love chilli panner and caulifkower manchurian. Became a fan of this place.

Such bad customer service, asked for special food order, no action taken, member of staff was rude and disconnected the call by saying sorry wrong call. Very disgusted would not recommend if you are allergic or have special dietery requirements.

Worst Indian Food I ever had in London , I ordered Inod Chinese items like Hakka Noodles , Monchow soup , Most of them were half cooked . Worst part was that insted of using Noodles they have used vermicelli for making the hakka dish .

I’ve been using this place for years, the food is excellent value for money. With certain places price is an indicator of quality and that can’t be said for jai durga. The food is always piping hot fresh and tasty and the indo Chinese food and India started are exceptional for Indian fast food standards. My only pet peeve about this place is that they serve things such as paneer on a bed of lettuce that completely destroys the purpose of serving a side salad as it can make the food soggy and taints the taste of the palate cleansing salad. Please stop doing this, it’s uncalled for - I shouldn’t have to request you to do this every time I place an order.

Absolutely terrible and the worse experiences. Ordered Dry manchurian, panner and tadka daal. Manchurian tastes like full of ketchup flavour. Panner and tadka daal were tasteless. When we told them to do something about that. The staff refused to do anything in Manchurian and in panner and tadka daal they made it the most spicy dish I ever had in my life with full of green chillies in it. The staff knew they deliberately did this but they don't even know how to give a service. They don't understand anything and the whoever the chef was looked like don't want to bother. Would really like to know who runs this place and how they even getting customers. Not worth a penny.

Absolutely disgraceful. Don't bother calling and ordering for a collection. They have the audacity to call the customer a liar. They try and make you pay in cash for tax purposes. I've reported you to the HMRC. They are probably employing staff without correct work permits and they don't understand customer service or satisfaction. They are in business to make money by any which way. Avoid at all costs. Its just not worth the time, money or effort. Disgraceful and pitiful service from somewhere I've been ordering from since they opened.

Food was good, the service was hit and miss, The prices were a bit more than I thought a place like this should charge, but overall it was all right on the night.

Terrible experience at this place. The lady was so rude that it was beyond tolerance. I went with 2 friends and started with an order of 1 cold coffee 1 butter milk 1 pizza 1 pani puri and 1 chola bhatura. When we were done eating that and felt a like we want a little more to drink because of the weather we ordered another cold coffee and one fresh lime soda. The lady after bringing the drinks said to us that we should order what we want all at once. If we wanted 2 cold coffee we should have ordered it all at once. Apparently at this place you are not allowed to order more food if you want. So beware

Its an Indian restaurant without any basic knowledge on how to cook Indian food. We visited this place for lunch and will definitely not visit again.

Worst food ever. Baigan Bharta was tasteless. It was made out of sambar dal and the roti was think and not tandori at all. Worst food I have had in the place.

Being vegan makes it extremely difficult to find great places to eat. Nowhere comes even close to Jai Durga for magnificent food. I go there as often as I can and I am always delighted. It’s an experience that everyone should have and the prices are very reasonable.

Reviewed in 2020 Re- North Harrow branch. Chilli paneer is the best. We have been customers of this place since it opened around 14 years ago. Green chutney is now watered down which is dissapointing. Apart from that the food is excellent and good pricing. Edit 04/22 Since my last review I have noticed certain food items dont taste as before for example the mixed vegetable dosa, sambhar watered down. Maybe a change of the usual chef. Definitely not the same after several recent visits. Plus the price increases. Dropping stars 5 to 2.

Found the food quality has gone down. The sauces were the same on a couple of starters.

We ordered food from Jai Durga Mahal first time. We were very disappointed as the quality of food was very depressing. We ordered shahi paneer and kadai paneer. Paneer in kadai paneer was burnt and both gravies didn’t have any flavour at all.

Great vegetarian pizzas. They do some good deals so ask them for latest offers. Will be getting my takeaway pizzas from here. Great tasting.

Finally a competitor for Sakonis chilli paneer! Truth is the paneer here was better, no idea what the other food is like but who cares when the chilli paneer stands out like this. If you like Chilli paneer go!

Food always consistent. Chirspy bhajia portions varies ftom time to time. Obe thing they can make better is train the staff to collect the empty dishes to create room but have to be told which is sad

I recently ordered for the first time from here. The Indian Thali via Deliveroo. I would 100% recommend this restaurant and will definitely be ordering from here again. I rarely write reviews but I had to this time. Everything was soooo delicious, very good portion sizes and cooked perfectly. It was just as nice as my mum makes, trust me, this is a first. I've been to many Indian restaurants and had other restaurant deliveries but I've never much enjoyed it. The delivery was also super fast. Thank you Jai Durga. Awesome job. 👌

Telephone ordered a takeout. Ordered for seven people sharing. The recommendations by the the person on the phone HELPED SUBSTANTIALLY with saving money and Over Ordering. Collected with in 30 mins ... piping hot! Food ...12 different " dishes " all amazingly delicious ... with very less or just enough for anybody requiring a top-up. Jai Durga Mahal has ONE ...& only ONE down side , in my opinion, and this is the ONLY reason I've DOWNGRADED the **** ,and that is 'THEIR ' concept of social distancing for delivery & collection is very .... Haphazard .... Not organised well enough. Especially if it viewed from your 'shop front window' THAT SOME CUSTOMERS may NOT like what they see.... Please 🙏🏼 Organise better.... We ordered 6-7 items for takeaway. Many items had customizations due to my parties dietary restrictions. Everything from uttapam, to chilly paneer to aloo paratha were excellent. The staff were friendly, food was hot and ready on time. I would higjly recment. Great local place.

Food is great but let down by poor customer service experience. Extremely busy period mean that the stress is taken out on customers calling to place an order. Very rude telephone manner and when I mentioned this to them the attitude remains the same - unbelievable ! Time to explore other options in North Harrow !

I ordered the maisoor dosa, chilli paneer, Singaporean noodles, samosa chaat and crispy bhajia. The family and I all agreed the food was thoughtfully packed for delivery and tasted really fresh. The food wasn't soggy and remained crispy. The food wasn't greasy or salty . I would definitely order from here again! It might be my new vegetarian Indian takeaway

I ordered food via delevrloo via this restaurant. One of the biggest mistake. Sambar is watery, coconut chutney fully liquid , seem they mixed extra water. Dosa was smelling very bad. When I called durga mahal restaurant to explain, they started arguing. Never order from this restaurant.

I visited Jai Durga Mahal with my family but was disappointed by the behaviour of the Head chef. Not only he was extremely rude to his staff and very aggressive but he could be heard being disrespectful to me and my questions on the menu. I had to physically get up to address his rudeness because he was shouting from the kitchen and I had to advise him he needs to respects his customers. I am hugely disappointed with the fact a number of items on the menu were not available including the named currys in the Thali. I requested to have an extra Naan instead of rice but was rudely told by the chef directly NO and whether I wanted whats in the thali or not .. The staff members had to continue apologies to me and my family for the poor behaviour of the chef whom I was told “owns” the place. I really do not recommend Jay Durga Mahal and avoid this place. The food was average and edible.

Come on occasion and usually the food is really good but that was pre pandemic however since then food is lacklustre. Lacks flavour and wasn't really tasty. Some foods were lacking salt and maybe a bit of lemon too. It's ashame really as it was a nice restaurant previously.

Overall it was a great experience and of course a few minor error here and there. They were also massively understaffed and waiting times were long but with enough employees this place will thrive.

The worst Indian food in the area. Poor quality, small quantities. Ordered a vadapav, got a generic tiny fried potato patty sandwiched in a tiny burger bun. Ordered a samosa pav, got a flattened triangular "samosa" instead of a proper Punjabi samosa, sandwiched in, you guessed it, a tiny burger bun. Dahi puri came with large potato cubes, not properly mashed, and with just four puris. The Schezwan rice was the most inauthentic we had ever had. This place ruined our evening. Avoid.

Their service was super the cheese dosai was delightful. I couldn't believe the fact that the crispy bhajia was stunning and topping it of with the Tamarind Sauce which taste so sweet! It is most likely that you will be stunned especially if you don't have a take away because... if you take a take away you won't have the delighting taste but if you have it from the saucer it will be amazing. The sweetcorn soup OMG you wouldn't resist it is that delicious I advise you to come now and eat because you wouldn't resist!!

Dosa, chilli paneer and pizza amazing... aloo papdi chaat terrible... sent it back, and still bad. I generally love this place, but service was quite poor today, ejich is surprising as they were only serving 2 tables! Hopefully better experience next time!

Meagre portions of oily, cold crispy bhajia. They have a good business idea: charge customers extra money for "large" portion but give same amount of food as medium. Used to be good local place for takeaway but unlikely to order again

Though the staff are very polite & the venue appears to be very clean, I found the staff incompetent, I had to ask 6 times for a empty glass with ice and lemon and in the end it came once our meal was finished, our soft drink order was wrong twice and I personally didn't like the oily food at all. That said, they must be doing something right as the restaurant had takeaways flying out the door and two of our party of 6 had no issue with the taste of food.

I only wish they w keep their crispy Bhajia already fried ! They come out crispy but you know they are not fresh cooked. Not covid secure - these filmsy bits of what look like a thin cling film between the tables —- Always nice service. Friendly Always enjoy the food.

Very disappointing experience on Fri 4 June-idles were dry n sambal was strong in tomatoes base just like the dhal makhani. Chilly paneer was very dry n overcooked as it was very tough. Will not return.
