Taste Buds @ The Station in Wakefield

Just noticed this place after being dropped off at the station, and as soon as I’d had my first sip, I concluded what’s in the title!! Pastries are top quality too!! Nicely done, and thanks for the great start this morning!!!

We had a lovely brunch at the station. We sat in the first class lounge and were served at the table. Staff were very friendly and food really nice. Coffee was delicious.

Extremely impressed with level of cleanliness. Felt very safe. Staff are absolutely delightful, friendly, caring and helpful. Food was lovely you would pay much more in a restaurant for the Caesar salad I had. Have not been to many places recently but will definitely come back here.

The menu is not massive and if your wanting a hot cooked meal then Taste Buds Wakefield is not the place to visit, but if you want a great bacon, sausage butty or toasted panini and the most amazing baked treats then this place is well worth a visit. The staff, two lovely ladies were really helpful and couldn’t do enough to make sure our visit was one to remember, we were looked after from start to finish, my niece can be a little fussy when it comes to food but the girls soon had her sorted and she ate every last scrap on her plate of a deconstructed bacon, sausage and egg sandwich. I was a little disappointed with my choice, a cheese and pickle sandwich which was pr-packed, but everything else including the coffee was 1st class. I’m sure we will return sometime soon, those brownies were delicious.

Absolutely fantastic afternoon tea was stunning and delicious highly recommend this little cafe. We will definitely be returning.

We have just had an amazing afternoon tea at taste buds so tasty and plentiful. It's also excellent value for money well worth a visit if you're looking for a lovely afternoon treat.

The mini Danish takeaway gift box are a lovely little treat and so tasty The best bacon sandwiches around too Looking forward to our next little treat.

I love coming here if I have time to spare before my train. Today actually I was tight on time so the lovely staff made my scrambled eggs and toast as a take out. This is my favourite breakfast here - it’s so yummy. I always get the hot chocolate too. I believe they use real chocolate to produce theirs. It’s luxurious to say the least. The staff are really friendly and will always chat to you. I couldn’t recommend this place enough. I’ve even brought my boyfriend here simply to eat - we weren’t even getting a train! I’m yet to try the smoothies but definitely will do soon. They have such a large range of them. They also have a huge range of syrups to put in hot drinks! I love this cafe - don’t be fooled by the small station. This place is amazing!

I came in 15 minutes before closing time and there were no veggie sandwiches left. The proprietor very kindly made a cheese and pickle one specially for me and it was absolutely delicious. The staff here have always been friendly and obliging each time I've been and everywhere is spotlessly clean. They let customers sit inside right up to closing time so we didn't have so long to wait out in the cold for the train!

Come here regularly when travelling on business to London. The staff are unfailingly polite, the place is clean and the well done bacon sandwich (or the bacon and tomato croissant) are always lovely. Can’t find fault with the place.

The bacon sandwiches here are delicious and good value; the rest of the menu looks good too. Nice atmosphere, pleasant staff, however whenever I'm near it's usually closed. If you're close to Kirkgate Railway Station and are peckish, it's worth having a look to see if they're open. It's several levels above most station buffets in terms of quality, price and a nice atmosphere. Quite small though, just a few places to sit. Cozy and nice.

I been told scrambled egg will be runny which I like anyway but actually it was the best!! Taste like my great grandma who always made it!! Enjoyed very much! Price is reasonable too

Quick breakfast. Oh YES! Scrambled egg cook to perfection ! 👌 simple but good! Will be back in next Wakefield business meeting!

Visit most mornings on my way to work, the service is very personalised, the best I have experienced, the latte is to die and I now addicted 😆 the cafe soooo clean and welcoming 😊 The only 2 down sides are my return time just misses closing time 😫 and I wish there was a bigger cup 😋

We were meeting someone from a train to Wakefield Kirkgate and had a bit of time to kill so decided to get a hot drink. The service was very prompt and the drinks good. We were there mid morning and there was a trickle of people coming in and out to get drinks to have in or take away. There is no official toilet however we asked were kindly allowed to use the staff toilet. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. True Yorkshire hospitality!

I will happily walk a little out of my way to come here, I probably go once a month but they always know my order (cortado extra milk). The coffee is outstanding, and the customer service is even better, all the breakfast options look amazing, although I am usually a little pushed for time, so generally grab a croissant with cheese and mushroom to go its a great pre work treat. Highly recommend.

The bacon sandwiches were lovely and the staff very friendly, a much needed addition to the station.

I was looking for somewhere to sit for half an hour waiting for a connection, so I wandered into the coffee shop at Wakefield Kirkgate. I noticed what looked like a decent coffee machine, so changed my mind from the bottle of water that I was going to buy.

We stopped off for a coffee before our train. The staff were very polite & helpful, the drinks were brought outside to us and the coffee was delicious. We were there a while and they started clearing away some tables outside but came and assured us we could stay as long as we wanted. The lady was really friendly, nice and chatty. I will go out if my way to use it again.

I appreciate good coffee and this place definitely serves it - we tried the guest roast and it was delicious! I had warm croissant for breakfast and my friend had the granola, excellent treats and all the staff were super tentative and friendly. Going back now for another breakfast before we leave Wakefield.

Well it’s not often that I use Wakefield Kirkgate Station but when I do I will get there early !!!

Turned up at the station for the first time in a long while and came upon this amazing little cafe serving quality fresh drinks an food staff extremely helpful. Very refreshing to find an independent cafe in a train station.

Whenever we visit Yorkshire we do not miss to go to Taste Buds at Wakefield Kirkgate Railway Station. Therefore our visit this year took place on Monday, 13th May. We were delighted to find the place unchanged from visits in previous years, i.e. everything in the room is absolutely clean (tables, chairs, floors). We enjoyed a tasty breakfast (bacon, tomatoes, scrambled eggs) professionally prepared by Jagdish and Nicola. These two people do their best to please us customers. We always feel relaxed in the peaceful atmosphere and enjoyed every bite and not to forget the excellent coffee. The place deserves at least 5*****.

Excellent value for your money, clean premises and very efficient service, well worth the visit. The owners attention to detail is noticeable and nothing was too much trouble.Fully recommended

Was at station for a family trip to London and had some time to spare so we all went for breakfast. One of the best bacon roll I have had in a long time and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. Lovely cup of tea as well :)

I’ve travelled through Wakefield quite a lot in the last 12 months but unfortunately my connection has only given me a few minutes at the station - just long enough to get one of the best coffees around always served by really friendly people. Today I had longer and had time for the Pie and Peas: proper West Yorkshire pie and peas with hot, high quality pork pie on a bed of lovely peas, accompanied by a little jug of fresh mint sauce. This place makes the ordinary just a bit special and many others could learn from their model. I hope my journey takes me through Wakefield again soon!

Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The food is so tasty and such good quality - even down to the small paper bags when you take your food away. The hot beverages are to die for and they accommodate all allergens and diets. Couldn’t ask for a better cafe. Exceptionally priced for a train station cafe.

If you’re looking at sipping some amazing coffee served by warm people, Taste Buds @ The Station is your place to go. Jagdish and Nicola have been running this place since its inception and have treated it like their home and their customers like family. Their coffee is top notch and so is their food. You’re definitely going leave this place feeling elated.

If I'm travelling on a morning train, always stop by for a coffee and a bacon sarnie. Lovely cosy cafe and really nice staff give you such a warm welcome.

Lovely cosy place to visit and meet up with friends, you can even get there on the free city bus! Really lovely friendly welcoming staff, good food, what more could you wish for. Well worth visiting.

This is by far one of the nicest train station cafes I have ever been too (and I spend a lot of time in train stations). The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly and always seem to remember what I drink, even if its been a couple of months between visits. It makes catching a train from the station an absolute pleasure. Thank you for such a warm welcome.

I’m not a regular but when i do get the chance for coffee and a pastry it is fantastic - very nice staff - always helpful and very pleasant. Also the coffee is fantastic. Thanks for great service.

A fabulous little café at Kirkgate station. Nicola and Jagdish are very friendly and always welcoming, as are the other staff who work there. Gorgeous coffee is served here and has a great range of snacks on the menu. All the food is freshly cooked and well resented. This is complimented with a selection of sweet treats. Always spotlessly clean and well presented. You don't have to be waiting for a train to visit and it is really worth the 5 minute walk out of the city centre, in fact ITS THE BEST CAFE IN WAKEFIELD!!!

Top service this morning, yet again! In a world of huge and impersonal chains and brands, Nicola and Jag know your name and your order and it’s great every single time. The coffee is quality (way better than Costa), pastries are fresh and warm and the bacon sandwiches are to die for. Part of my reason for travelling from Kirkgate rather than Westgate is this gem of a cafe run by great people who deserve every success!

We went to Tastebuds for a little lunch. Service was lovely - all staff are friendly and very welcoming A great selection of cakes too - we took a brownie home and it was delicious!

I travel down to London weekly from this station and after finding this little gem the first time, I always make sure I leave at least half an hour early to have breakfast and a coffee here each week.

I only had a pot of tea, but the menu and cakes looked really good.

I have only ever visited this venue once, and found it charming. The sandwich I had was filling and hot and clearly not made with inferior products which was a nice change for station cafe's. As this was all I ate I cannot comment further.

Every member of staff is a delight, each one understands the value of warm genuine customer service. It’s the perfect place to top up on excellent service before you have to rangle with the trials of everyday life!

Just had a lovely Americano and toasted fruited bread in this lovely little cafe on Wakefield Kirkgate station. All tasty and served by pleasant and professional staff. This cafe is not your usual grubby 'chain' found on most stations...it is spotless AND trendy. What more could you ask for? Well worth repeat visits.

Always have good food and great service, clean area and good staff who are friendly and kind. Would have option for vegetarians too and good desserts

La Spaziale espresso machine proudly on display meant this was either going to be a triumph or a tragedy. Happily whoever runs this place not only invested in a decent machine, they also took the time to train their staff. Cortado delivered comprised of strong espresso, fantastic crema mixing with a cup full of velvety milk. No overheated milky foam and no burnt coffee. And all delivered quickly with a smile. Thanks!

I was 50 minutes early for my train , so popped in for a cup of tea and toast.this is a rarity for me as I generally steal clear of cafes on stations as they are always overpriced and not that great but this was the exception! I will definitely call again.beautifully served , fresh and staff very welcoming!

Fantastic coffee and great for breakfast before a journey. The staff are always helpful and smiley! I generally just have a latte and toast but its spotless and welcoming and next time I am going to treat myself to eggs!

First visit to Taste Buds for a while and when I called in today it was every bit as good as I remembered. I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious coffee and beautifully creamy scrambled eggs. Nicola, Jagdish and the team are so welcoming and everything they serve is extra special.

Having a need to catch a train to London, I got dropped off at Kirkgate station with some time to spare. Having noticed someone had taken a bold step to open a cafe at Kirkgate, I called in and...wow..what a fantastic quality experience.

Came to Wakefield by train to visit the Hepworth. Saw a review of this place and decided to grab a sandwich before the train back. Spotless, really lovely fresh food. Great pricing for the quality and service. This place should be packed.

I use Kirkgate Station about once a week and have enjoyed coffee or a delicious hot chocolate and always had a warm and friendly greeting and great drinks. On this occasion my wife & I were nearby and in need of lunch so we called in for something to eat. The food is every bit as good as the drinks and it is no surprise that it always seems busy. With quality of food and hospitality it deserves to do well.

I ended up in this cafe after missing my train. I’d usually rather go hungry than purchase the usual food available at train stations. This place instantly felt different and that’s probably because it’s independent!

Always a warm welcome! The cappuccino is wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble. I always pop in here when on-route for the train :-)

Called in for breakfast and coffee before catching a train to London. Arrived at 8.20 and train at 8.55. Busy little place. Lovely black coffee and what a bacon butty. Must be one of the best i've ever had. Staff working away very hard but had time to check we were happy which we exceedingly were. Well recommended.

I visited Wakefield Kirkgate Station as I was changing trains and was hopeful that there would be something reasonable on offer. How delighted I was to find a clean, friendly, warm buffet that was welcoming and had decent products and service.

We've been visiting tast buds at Kirkgate station since they opened. The joint owners are very friendly and welcoming and the food, and especially the hot chocolate is something we look forward to here, on our regular long journey and several trains to see family.

A real find, and a haven of welcome on a cold November afternoon. Excellent coffee and very good service. The best station snack-restaurant I have come across in a long time. Tip: stay as long as you can on this side of the station, for there is no shelter from the cold on the Southbound platform!

Taste Buds brightens up my Monday mornings. By far the best coffee, warm pastries and bacon and scrambled egg sandwiches anywhere. Forget the big chains and the expensive artisan coffee shops; I've tried lots of them. This place beats them all and is a must for anybody travelling from Wakefield Kirkgate. Nicola and Jag work extremely hard and for regular travellers they know your "usual" order. They even offer to take orders by phone if you're running late for the train. Fantastic customer service, I can't speak highly enough of them. The reviews clearly show that I'm not alone! I hope Taste Buds continues to go from strength to strength. Thanks Taste Buds - this morning's breakfast was superb as ever!!!

On our way to London to attend our dear friend Graham Gouldmans last concert of his solo tour when we found this totally amazing cafe at Wakefield Kirkgate. Staff are wonderful and the food is fit for a king.well worth a visit !

When travelling by train and bus to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park we always make a relaxing stop at Taste Buds.

We missed our train so stopped here for tea and cake. What a find! Such great and friendly staff and the cake was delicious. Good quality tea as well.

I normally travel out of Wakefield Westgate, but today had to travel out of the smaller Kirkgate station. I travel all the time all over the UK.

Great surroundings and fab coffee/food, cannot fault the place. Lovely friendly faces always a pleasurable visit.

I remember coming here when it was newly opened and the care and friendliness has not diminished in any way .It is such a delight to have such good food and home made cakes and not yet another franchise of the big players of boredom . I have had milk brought to me on the train as I ran out without it ,and then the train was delayed in the station.Lots of little touches of extra kindness and care make this so special .I wish I used Kirkgate station and not Westgate as my regular .For a trip to the Hepworth Gallery ,Come by train and visit this cafe ! We used the cafe before our grand central train to London. Great service and clean. The downside I would say is that it's not cheap. £2.95 for a bacon sandwich. But there's not a lot else nearby as the station is in the middle of know where. Would use again

I frequent Taste Buds at the Station most days as I work at the station site. I find the staff, without exception, to be friendly without being intrusive, warm and willing to accommodate your specific menu request.

I stop here most mornings before getting my 8:25am Nottingham train, always friendly and welcome me (and many others by name) and remember my 'usual' without presuming to prepare it, checking if I might want something different ... and to top it off, remind me that my train is due if I daydream while eating breakfast and drinking my coffee.

I get the train to London every week and often come in for a coffee and croissant. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, the choice of food and snacks is great and their coffee is excellent. They really try hard, today they advised me not to go for an extra shot in my flat white as their roaster already makes it quite strong. It's little touches like that what make a business really shine. Bravo!

I always pop in on a Monday morning for a drink and a bite to eat. It brightens up my day as the staff ate so friendly and nothing is to much trouble for them.

Taste Buds is a little gem of a cafe, it has brightened up a once dark and gloomy railway station. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is a too much trouble for them. It is always service with a genuine smile, which is a so nice (and rare) to see. The cafe itself is spotlessly clean and bright and has a great selection of hot and cold food, pastries and drinks. Overall I'd give the cafe 5* - the staff are doing a great job!!

We've just made our 4th visit to Taste Buds .We go not because we're catching a train but it's becoming our preferred coffee destination in Wakefield.

I called in hoping to use the loo as there are no facilities at Wakefield Kirkgate. I was obviously happy to make a purchase in there but was surprised at the great range of coffees and syrups on offer. It's a lovely little cafe with a great menu. I only had a caramel latte and a croissant but I will definitely call in again soon to try a Croque Monsieur! The croissant was warmed in the oven before serving and came with quality butter and Tiptree jam. A perfect pit stop!

As a regular traveller to London, Taste Buds is an absolute god send. The owners are exceptional people with a real enthusiasm for customer service. Their warm pastries are fantastic and their coffee is by far the best in the locality. I hope Taste Buds can thrive as it deserves to. It's an absolute must for anybody travelling to and from Wakefield Kirkgate station.

Having only stopped for a hot drink previously we had lunch here..Great value hot snacks cooked from fresh and friendly service.One tip..If you find the Hepworth cafe packed this is only about an 8 minute walk away and is a good alternative ( but Taste Buds is not open on Sundays.)

We had an hour to wait for our train and decided to sit in comfort with a cuppa. The place is extremely clean and I can't say enough about the hospitality of the staff. They were friendly and cared about their customers' experience.

Had the fortune of discovering this independent coffee shop while meeting someone at Kirkgate station - what a gem , the best tasting coffee in Wakefield ! in fact every where I go I now compare other coffee shops coffee against this and I've yet to find anywhere that equals the quality and sweetness of coffee that tastebuds provide combined with the care the baristas take in producing a visually enticing beverage .The cafe is spotlessly clean and serves quality food too and at a good price .The owners seem to really care about their products and their customers and everyone there is so friendly and welcoming - although not in the centre of town it is worth bobbing down to Tastebuds at Kirkgate for coffee , lunch or cake even if you are not travelling by train - seek it out ! you won't regret it !

As I was catching a train and had 15 mins spare I called in for a quick drink and a cake. The coffee shop was warm and inviting on a cold lunchtime. I had a strong black coffee and a scone. Coffee was rich and tasty and the scone was fresh with plenty of butter and jam. Staff were warm and friendly and the environment was very clean and cosy. Very surprised to find such an inviting eatery at this location. Long awaited.

Had 25 mins to spare between trains and had a great decaff coffee. Staff lovely and the cafe itself is bright and clean. Menu looked great too. Would definitely recommend.
