Had a great experience dining here for a birthday celebration. The team member who looked after us, Josh, went out of his way to ensure we had a great meal and a relaxed time, great hospitality. The menu showcases the very best of local ingredients and suppliers, and every dish was outstanding. Grilled scallops with citrus butter, almonds, shaved roast cauliflower and golden raisins were a particular highlight, but each dish was well executed - very fresh crab roll, lemon sole with asparagus, and lamb rump on vegetable compote with feta - wishing I could go back again soon! I also recommend you check out the locally-inspired cocktail creations and the Cornish wines from Knightor, they really complemented the meal.

The Taste Brasserie is quite possibly the best restaurant I've ever been to at a hotel. The food's 10/10, atmosphere's spot on, and the service is on a whole new level! Just want to mention two of the restaurant staff that stood out for me, Diane and Ben. They were both exceptionally attentive, kind and polite.

The Carlyon Bay Hotel has never let us down. Although we live in Carlyon Bay, we always visit the hotel when we can, and are never disappointed. Taste is the Brasserie restaurant open to non residents, and is essentially the fishy restaurant with a superb choice of freshly chosen fish, shell fish etc cooked professionally and properly. We were a family of 5, and although it was quiet there, we were properly attended with the food & wine. A grat menu choice, and an ideal venue for relaxing, a romantic meal, or a family gathering. Highly recommended & yes, we will go again.

We were looking for a special venue to celebrate a birthday. And this looked a lovely place. But we very disappointed with the food. The fish pie was totally covered in cheese and was very salty it contained little fish just a few tiny pieces of salmon. The burger was dry and unappetising . The taste restaurant certainly didn’t live up to its name

First time at this venue and expecting great food. The service was fine staff friendly. The meal was pretty ordinary nothing outstanding my steak was ok but i have had better and my wife's chicken looked a little dry. Probably wouldn't go there again the hotel itself is quite old style and personallt prefer something more chic and modern

This is in the Carlyon Bay Hotel. There are two restaurants. In my opinion, this is better than the other one, which is supposed to be better. We ate here twice. The food both nights was very good. My wife had plenty of Gluten Free options, so no worries there. I had fish and chips one night and linguine with seafood - which was absolutely delicious and full of seafood. Both nights, the servers were fantastic and engaging. One night, our waiter was from Hungary. He could not have been nicer. It really made the night that much better.

The more informal of eating places at this grand hotel, nice menu and fantastic steak, the six to seven menu is especially good value

Goed eten voor een redelijke prijs. Vis was heel vers, net zoals de opgediende groenten. Zeer vriendelijke en attente bediening. Gewoon een goed restaurant met mooie inrichting.

The brasserie is tucked away in the Carylon Bay Hotel, so this is not the restaurant with a sea view. But the decor is sophisticated and relaxing. The service was impeccable. The menu was more interesting than I expected and i found it difficult to make a choice from the interesting options on offer.i settled for the chicken terrine which was so light and tasty - if a rather large portion! The main course of posh scampi was delicious monkfish and large prawns in a tasty crumb batter. I could not manage a dessert but i can vouch for the Cornish cheeseboard. Lovely relaxing meal followed by drinks in the large lounge area where a pianist provided the background music. Will certainly return.

We went here on recommendation from our B&B. Apparently they dine here often and have been well pleased. We found it quite nice and very nearby. Although in a large hotel, it was a quiet room so we were well pleased. We enjoyed the following: Parsnip soup curry raisins, Roasted scallops, Confit of duck,Rack of Cornish lamb Côtes de Rhône Outstanding service by Cathy

We are staying at the Carlyon Bay Hotel, and after a disappointing meal at the The Bay view restaurant, we chose to eat at the Taste brasserie. Well, thank you God we did. The food was well cooked with great flavours but what made it stand out what the atmosphere and the staff, we were served by this lovely waitress Emily. She was warm, friendly and welcoming, yet professional and prompt. There is a lovely atmosphere in the Taste brasserie which we felt the Bay view restaurant was lacking. Highly recommend

Pre ordered lobster fir both husband and I in advance and even though out of season we hey managed to get them. Served with one side choice plus salad and was fab. Only one thing to call out, mine had one claw yet I was charged same price as his which was larger and had both claws? Otherwise great meal. Starters were overly pricey as were desserts given small size( all around £10-12 each) but at least coffee was included afterwards Would return for main course alone

Popped in here for a cream tea, deliciously warm scones with jam and clotted cream, a real treat. Very reasonably priced. The staff were lovely, very friendly, would definitely recommend.

The Tolcarne Inn is a pub in Newlyn, Cornwall, just outside of Penzance. I happened to be on my way to watch a film about an Irish architect, when I stopped in the Tolcarne Inn for lunch. Suspicious of gastro pubs, ranging from uppity to down-facing. Ladies were pleasant, very quiet clientele, like a village pub. I sat by the window with my book about the cognitive decline of Joe Biden, but when the food came, I forgot about Uncle Joe entirely. I ordered turbot with hollandaise sauce and asparagus, a side of boiled “Cornish dailies” and a white Americano. A warning about “small plates”. Quite, quite. You could have lost the fish in the wash, the two asparagus were stolen from a fisher-maid’s garden, the hollaindaise failed to mask the paltry dimensions. The bowl of potatoes, lathered in butter and dill, was substantial, boasting my fish like a thin man wearing large clothes. (£25 for the lot. Suspicious? I thought so too.) After the first mouthful, I was shocked. I chewed slowly, methodically, the flavours informing my tongue. The turbot was cooked with rock salt; the flesh keeps shape, easy to pull apart. The hollandaise has none of that wiry flavour; it’s smooth, not unlike a Bailey’s. Asparagus are tender, simple. Boiled “Cornish dailies” - new potatoes - are tender too. Dill and butter not overpowering. When you are filled with shock during a meal, this usually comes from the waitress dropping your plate, or some punter attacking the bar, but rarely the food. My modest meal shocked me. I forgot about Joe Biden, remembering my youth. Perfect fresh fish - prepared differently in Bermuda, but the same sensation. The outside world vanishes. Flawless food. Tourists ambling in and out of the pub, acting like the Inn was just another watering hole. No, no, no. My little turbot and asparagus and potatoes forced me back into the shell of my youth, I thought about people thinking about youth; what form it took, and so on. Walker is in shock, on the verge of tears. Now, at this point, you reach out and touch your partner’s hand, but I was alone. So the waitress came over and asked, “Is your food alright?” Because I’m thinking about time and space, prompted by the excellent food, I look up slowly, like a post-operative patient jigged back to life. “It’s flawless,” I said. “Suspiciously flawless,” I added. She smiles, walks away. Meanwhile another customer - frothy, biscuit-shirted - has the audacity to say their beer is “a bit frothy” when archangels and medcine men craft in the kitchen like so many Cornish saints. A chef peers out of the kitchen, catching my eye. A smug smile on his face. “Yes, you are God,” I want to say; I want to sing this from Newlyn to Planet Neptune.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. I had roast lamb and my wife had roast beef, very very tasty. For dessert I opted for the superb bread and butter pudding with clotted cream whilst my wife savoured the " St. Buryan Mess" which was delicious. The staff were lovely and our three dogs were welcome. All in all super pub food in a great location.
