Collected pie, mash and liquor to heat up at home for dinner this evening and thoroughly enjoyed it, there is also the option to eat in or have it delivered. A varied menu is also available to suit all tastes. In the past few months the new owner has carried out a make-over of the premises and greatly improved the overall look. The staff are welcoming and the new cook is doing a great job. Go and give it a try you won't be disappointed.

....really good food. I was initially disappointed when we entered as it smells like a greasy spoon cafe and once over the "there goes my cream tea" I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. The coffee on the other hand was terrible - I'm no expert but I'm guessing cheap instant.

The last time we went in to this cafe we were quite disappointed with our regular meals. The chips appeared to have been kept in a warmer and heated up and 99% were as hard as a bullet. The salads were not the usual type and were probably a cheaper variety. The steak rolls were not the usual crusted type and the steak was thinner slices. We last visited about a month ago and we dont expect to go back, not unless they stop dishing up food like this. The prices have gone up, but not the quality. I advise them to rethink how they prepare meals because bad news travels fast in this competitive market and it will pull them down. There is a thin line between quality and prices !

I have been using this little find for well over a year now. Most weeks it's just lunch with my carer. I have been for afternoon tea several times and my children brought me here for lunch on my 50th birthday and mother's day. The food is always good and freshly prepared and the staff are very friendly. I would definitely recommend breakfast especially the eggs Benedict. My children (all adults) love the quality burgers and my partner tells me the pie and mash is as good as Chrisp street market poplar.

OMG you did us proud. A really lovely afternoon tea. Food excellent, as long as you don’t want to loose weight. Sandwiches very fresh, cakes good variety and the scones were huge. Home cooking at its finest. Nice to have bone China too. We had a lovely afternoon no complaints at all only on the scales oops. Oh well have to work harder next week to get the pounds off. Thank you all so much, team work amazing and such good value for money. Nice to know first class customer service is still around. Well done and a big big thank you. If you don’t try this place out, you are seriously missing out. 👌👍

Travelled to meet friends who live in Benfleet at the weekend and had our usual visit to this great little venue. We first ate here in May and have been back at least twice a month since for either brunch, lunch or lovely afternoon tea with sandwiches, cakes and scones and couldn't ask for anything more. There is always a friendly, warm welcome, nothing is too much trouble and it's a nice environment to have a chat and catch up with friends. Having been a regular at this establishment for nearly six months I feel compelled to comment on the reviewer that claims this place is a "greasy spoon". The premises is open from 8.00 am and serves a breakfast menu to everyone and not just "blokes", in fact I think this is quite a derogatory comment and insinuates they had no right to be there. Also, the fact it was "full of people" surely confirms that it is an extremely popular place to eat.The reviewer has also contradicted herself (assume female due to the bloke comment) by claiming the place "smells of fry-ups" and then commented that "the food looked and smelled fab".Small businesses have a very hard time staying in business and the new owners who took over in March have changed the menu to accommodate patrons who require breakfast, brunch, lunch or afternoon tea and my friends and I have no problem recommending this cafe/tea room.

Got to say I wasn't impressed.Went in to eat but it was full of people (friendly nice 'blokes', but 'blokes' nonetheless) waiting for fry ups and overwhelmingly understaffed. The poor chap running it (the owner? ) was rushed off his feet, a customer volunteered to pop to Tesco's to buy him some mushrooms (for the fry ups) and I waited almost 20 minutes for a coffee. We decided to leave after it became clear that it wasn't anything like the tea rooms we usually go to and we had children who were uncomfortable in the noise, cramped seating and smell of fry ups. I was going to rate it 2, but it seemed a bit harsh as they were all really nice and friendly and by all accounts the food looked (and smelled) fab. I think they've just jumped on the Tea Room bandwagon s it seems to be the 'In' thing to do at the moment. It's the same great little cafe it always was, they've just put some nicer decor in. It is what it is, but it isn't a tea room.

Three friends and I had lunch here on Saturday and loved the food and the atmosphere. Each of us ordered something different and it was well presented, tasty and served by friendly, pleasant staff. This was our first visit and will definitely be returning very soon to try the afternoon tea as it looked delicious. For those with a hearty appetite the full English breakfast would be a good option and appeared very popular. I was lucky enough to be suprised by my friends and family Saturday, and thrown a fantastic baby shower which was held at Tarpots Tea Room. The food and service were amazing. Wendy couldn't of been more welcoming and helpful if she tried. It really was a wonderful time had by all.We had freshly made lovely little finger sandwiches with various fillings, scones with clotted cream and jam, and an assortment of miniature cakes and mouses, with fresh strawberries to garnish. Thank you so much for all your hard work and making it so special for me. Benfleet really is lucky to have you! Even better for me (but not my waste line!) I only live over the road to you so will be making it a regular visit once baby is here. Laura x

My daughter's friend and myself wanted to arrange a baby shower for my daughter but thought we'd hit a problem finding a suitable venue. That was until we spoke to Wendy at Tarpots Tearoom. She could not have been more helpful, welcoming and did an amazing job! The afternoon tea was wonderful and the baby shower just perfect. Everyone had such a lovely time and all hope to return very soon and often to sample the breakfasts and lunches on offer. My partner and I had full english breakfast there 2 saturdays in a row. The food was good value for money, but the personal touch was what made the whole experience enjoyable. The owner should feel proud of both the chintzy decor (which suited the tearoom ambiance perfectly) and the old fashion personal service she offered.

The place is really cute with a vintage Kath Kidson feel.We had breakfasts and cakes and both were excellent- I don't know where to begin. I had the Eggs Benedict and my partner had scrambled eggs, mine was well cooked and extremely tasty. Then the cakes- well! I had a slice of the homemade Victoria sponge and it was delicious- really good sponge. The homemade fruit scone came with butter, cream, a little pot of jam and a couple of strawberries and looked fabulous! I also had a cup of tea served in a lovely little teapot with a really cute cup and saucer. I cant recommend this place enough.

Having just had lunch with my two nieces, daughter, mum and sister I felt it necessary to tell people about this lovely tearoom tucked away in Shafers, It is such good value for money, food is excellent with a varied menu to suit all tastes. There are many different types of tea, all served in proper teapots with bone china teacups. The lady even provided a teacosy to keep the big pot of tea warm. Unable to resist the delicious cakes and scones, not one of us were disappointed in our choice. We will definately be back to sample the afternoon tea menu, which looked very impressive and once again a very good price. A very relaxed lunch, thank you ladies!

A little gem hidden away never knew this place existed considering been in the area on business many times, service and food was outstanding so much so I booked tea for Saturday with family. There were a few families in there for half term which shows the place must have a good reputation with locals. The decor is beautiful compliments to Wendy the owner who made us really welcome and cooked an outstanding lunch, considering the place is hidden from main rd I wasn't' surprised to see how many people were in there good to see these traditional places with British flair still exist.10 out of 10 from me
