Visited bank holiday Monday lunchtime The staff were brilliant. Proper service with a smile The food was amazing. We didn’t realise that the side orders were all included. I had fish pakora, chicken makhani, turmeric potatoes, daal and rice plus a lovely Indian rice pudding. All for £14.95 Small dishes but certainly enough to fill us up Our only issue was the drinks are pricy but we will go back

We were visiting Hull for goat time in four years. We decided to hit the area around Humber Street. We stood outside deciding on this restaurant and the Brazilian two doors up. The owner opened the door with a smile and warm welcome, like inviting us in to his home. The food is fabulous. The service top notch. Atmosphere lovely and the place attractive in design and was spotless . Highly recommend.

I visited this place at lunch time and when we arrived there were only two customers in there, two more followed us through the door. We opted for the lunchtime menu which is a Thali, a tray with small dishes on. You can choose one of 3 starters or one and one of three mains. I chose samosa and saag paneer, my friend chose fish and then the. Chicken curry. When it first arrived altogether on a tray we thought it looked small and that we would leave hungry. But surprisingly it was quite filling. We got a small and very tasty rice pudding for dessert. I thought the drinks were slightly expensive, but they were nice. The waitress got my meal wrong ordering me chicken curry when I am vegetarian. So I do have to wait for my paneer to arrive. Due to this I was a given a mango lassi drink to apologise, which was a nice touch. The thali was £14.99 each, which I thought was reasonable. All the food we had was very tasty. I’ve been here on a night before and the al a carte menu was amazing. The interior is also lovely and it come across as a very nice restaurant. The restaurant manager was very friendly and we had a good conversation about India. We will definitely be back.

Food was delicious and served quickly. Staff very friendly. We are not from Hull and went on a busy evening, the manager fitted us in and no-one rushed us. It is a more upmarket restaurant so expect prices to be higher and they will add a service charge to your bill automatically. There was no running water to the sinks in the ladies loos so used the Men's to wash hands, as did another lady - when the coast was clear.

Oh, Tapasya, the restaurant that used to be the epitome of exceptional dining experiences. How the mighty have fallen! Last night's visit was a stark departure from the glorious times we've had in the past. It seems like even the most revered establishments can't escape the clutches of mediocrity. Upon entering the place, we were greeted by a rather desolate sight. The restaurant was as empty as a politician's promise, save for the two unfortunate souls tucked away in a corner. In an attempt to bring some life to the place, we kindly asked if we could sit by the window, considering the abundance of vacant seating. To our surprise, an older waitress swooped in like a vulture, screeching at us about seating arrangements, as if the fate of the universe hinged on seating two people at a four-person table. How dare we disrupt the delicate equilibrium of their nearly deserted establishment? Our hopes for redemption lay in the starters, the trusty crab and mackerel. Alas, they were but pale imitations of their former selves. The flavors and execution fell short of the normal standard, leaving us underwhelmed and longing for the anticipated delight of the main courses. My excitement for the grilled prawns, a dish I'd savored on countless previous occasions, was swiftly extinguished. They arrived uncooked and drowning in a cacophony of overpowering flavors. The delicate subtlety that once made them irresistible was traded for an unappetizing clash of conflicting tastes. My daughter's choice, the Highway Chicken Curry, was equally disappointing and nearly inedible. It was truly a culinary tragedy. As if the lackluster food wasn't enough, we had the pleasure of sharing our dining experience with an unwelcome swarm of fruit flies. They circled our plates like miniature vultures, mocking our poor restaurant choices. Meanwhile, the staff seemed more interested in grunting and sniggering amongst themselves than attending to the few unfortunate souls unfortunate enough to enter the establishment. Gone were the high-end servers we once admired, replaced by a motley crew of disinterested individuals who clearly had better things to do. But wait! All is not lost! The pre-made pudding, that shining beacon of hope, managed to salvage the sinking ship. It was a piece of art amidst the chaos, a testament to the fact that perhaps the kitchen staff hadn't entirely lost their touch. It's a shame that a single dessert was the only redeeming factor in an otherwise disastrous evening. Oh, Tapasya, you've managed to transform an expensive evening into a comical tragedy. We left the restaurant lighter in the wallet and heavier in disappointment. It's astonishing how a place that once delighted us with its modern take on traditional Indian cuisine could fall so far from grace. Perhaps it's a cautionary tale, a reminder that even the most beloved establishments can crumble under the weight of complacency and neglect. We spent over £100 just on the food, a sum that would normally be justified by a memorable dining experience at Tapasya. Unfortunately, last night's visit was anything but memorable, except in the realm of disappointment. Farewell, dear Tapasya. It seems we'll have to search elsewhere for our beloved flavors and spices, and a restaurant that can live up to its former glory. Grateful that we had this experience before booking our Christmas party here.

Worst restaurant that I have ever been to. The thing that really lets it down is the service. Staff were the rudest I have ever experienced (I have eaten in restaurants all over the world) and we were so desperate to leave that we declined desserts and went elsewhere for them! Incredibly unwelcoming atmosphere from the moment you walked in the door. This is a pretentious establishment trying too hard to be something that it’s clearly not. The food was average considering the price you are paying. Meat tough and chewy, bland flavours. The only pleasant part was the decor and location! Will not be returning or recommending!

Fantastic restaurant! If you appreciate the flavours of proper Indian/Asian food, then treat yourself to a meal here! Service was exceptional, they couldn't have been any better. The food was just perfect . Scallops for starters (I would say that the scallops should be served whole, not with the roe removed! Such a shame to remove the best bit!). The balance between flavour , and spice was spot on though! Tandoori Monkfish for main, with yogurt rice. Had extras of bread basket & broccoli Tarkari (asked if I could have it without the courgette, and this was no problem). Nice sized fillets of monkish, with just enough flavour to allow you taste both the Kaffir lime, and the actual fish. The broccoli was perfectly cooked, and interestingly had shards of ginger in the masala sauce. Superb! Tried to resist desert, but lost! Unfortunately can't say I enjoyed it though !chocolate fondant. I couldn't get any hint of masala flavours. And being served with strawberry ice cream, in my opinion, really didn't go. It was also supposed come with an "orange compote", which would have been nice (not with strawberry ice cream though!), But instead got 2 mandarins sliced in half?! I did mention this, and was offered money off, so that was much appreciated, although declined. But luckily for me, I'm not a big desert fan, so can't wait to return, and have just starter and main ! Made me a cheek suckingly, wonderful Amaretto sour too! Thoroughly enjoyed my time in here! Thank you So still a 5 star from me!

Dinner here last night was very good and memorable. If you find the portions small order side dishes and bread...you won't find a big bowl of red slop here..it's the real thing, very nicely presented. It isn't hot with spice, they seem to have toned it down for 'delicate' people, but if you want they will bring some chopped (very aromatic) green chillies as a condiment..nice touch. The flavours were very South Indian influenced and reminded us of our holidays in Goa /Kerala and Sri Lanka..with street food chaats added , like the puffed rice soft shell crab..lovely. Quite possibly the best Negroni I've had in a restaurant. You get what you pay for, and this was worth every penny .Thank you.

I had really looked forward to my birthday meal at a restaurant I have been to several times. Booked a hotel and booked in with friends. Sat down and we were refused drinks because apparently we were drunk. I am writing this within 20 minutes of apparently being drunk. Seriously? I have frequented this restaurant and loved it but the gentleman (or not) this evening was totally rude and was abrupt and condescending. So instead of spending money we went elsewhere. We visited for our Anniversary with high hopes for the tasting menu especially as it’s Michelin recommended. In all honesty we were not blown away. There seemed to be something missing in all the dishes that would bring it up a level. Yes the plates were presented beautifully however it was the taste that let it down. Some of the dishes were far too hot so you could not taste anything over the bitter heat, and some were quite bland in comparison. The main was ok however my partner welcomed the desert That followed as his mouth was on fire and needed something to calm it down, this is coming from a man who eats chillis like sweets! The chicken in the second meal was nice, however what I didn’t enjoy was the raw onion that accompanied it, it overpowered the chicken which should have been the main flavour. Equally the scallops, however lovely they were presented, were undercooked. The saving grace was the dessert which was beautiful. The entire menu was rushed and we barely finished our meal before the next one arrived which is not great! We get it was covid but the time we booked our meal meant no one else would have been booked after us so chill out and let us eat our meal in our time and be out for 10pm! Also, given the restaurants status I would have expected more in relation to covid. Sharing 1 toilet between everyone in the restaurant isn’t great and when you didn’t see anyone go in there to clean it in the 2.5hrs you were there isn't fantastic. No antibacterial to clean the toilet either! In all honestly we will probably not go back. We’ve been to many high end restaurants and the experience and quality we experienced here was nowhere near on the level of others. It’s a real shame too as the building is beautiful! It’s also worth noting that if you read some of the bad reviews on here, which I should have done before booking, you will see there is a theme. There is also the same comment from the restaurant suggesting that most reviews are good so they can’t really understand your comment. To the management - You’re not so great reviews should be the ones you focus on to bring your product and experience forward!

The food is Indian/British fusion. This restaurant serves stunning, highly flavoured, brilliantly imagined and executed dishes for people who appreciate and understand fine dining. There are classic British ingredients/dishes, such as lamb shank, venison, etc., but it is fused with all the beauty of Indian cuisine. The concept works spectacularly. There are many people who go here because the restaurant has a favourable setting. It is smart and classy; the staff are friendly. But it is the food that is the real star of the show. Note that this is high end cuisine; it's not Chicken Madras and Pilau Rice. It is beautifully flavoured and stunningly presented cuisine. I would recommend dining earlier rather than later, as the clientele changes as the night progresses. Having said that, if you can get a table, go for it, whatever time it is. You won’t regret it.

The menu is accessed via a q square scan on the phone, but only one of our party of 4 could access it which made things more difficult as had to read everything out. Quite a limited menu and no flexibility to make a certain sauce vegetarian for example, i.e. replace chicken with vegetable. I had the only vegetarian dish which was nice albeit a bit spicy for my taste. Overall we enjoyed our food and the service was friendly, but i wouldn't have wanted to pay the normal full price. Live locally and decided to walk around the area. We wanted to support our local businesses and decided to visit on the off chance. We understand that we did not book a table but at 5:30pm on a Saturday it might not be their busiest time (as possibly too early to eat for normal clientele on a Saturday night). Went in to ask if we had to book and was told sternly ‘YES!’, and then after looking in the Empty Restaurant, asked do you not have a table for two? and then again told sternly ‘NO!’So no matter how local I live (0.3miles) I think il walk a little further to more welcoming establishments. We really enjoyed our meals and the service was very good. I would say the food and drink is expensive compared to other Indian restaurants, I do understand this is aimed at higher quality produce but not sure value for money is something you could say. My husband was really looking forward to the Goan curry but it didn’t really compare to the real thing which we had experienced in Goa. As a group of 7, 2 of us had the same lamb dish, we both expressed equal opinion and disappointment in the dish. When ordering I asked for my meal to be served “Asian” style which in simple terms means hotter. Being a former owner of a high end eating establishment and my partner being of Bangladeshi origins I have a reasonable knowledge and understanding of food. When asked if the meal was ok I said the meal tasted like the chef had simply poured chilli powder in and he hadn’t even cooked it out, hence the dish was just over powered with bitter heat and not nice at all!!

My friend and I both had the tasting menu and all the dishes were very good. I especially liked their version of aloo chaat, and the lamb rump. The only reason I haven't given it a fifth star is that I found the combinations of spices in several of the dishes quite similar - a bit more contrast would have been good. Service was impeccable. The pale ale that bears the restaurant's name is good too.

This is a stylish restaurant that doesn’t disappoint. It would be wrong to describe it as an Indian because many of the dishes have a great added imaginative spin, making them look and taste special. Last night we shared starters and then had 4 different mains. The consensus was that each was excellent.

We called In for a spot of lunch and we wasn't disappointed. It's a beautiful place with lovely staff. I opted for the high tea. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to prepare but its worth the wait. My husband had the lunchtime menu, cant remember the name but you get sample of starter, main side and dessert. All at very good prices too.

We had a Christmas night out with friends and we all agreed the food was fantastic with lots of choices on the menu. The service was really good considering the restaurant was full and all our meals was well presented and came piping hot. There was a great friendly atmosphere in the restaurant and we will definitely be eating here again soon.

Lovely place. Environment is really nice and the quality of food is amazing. A truly fine Indian based restaurant - different menu than the usual Indians, you will not find Madras or Vindaloo here but you will find great choice at a reasonable price.

The menu is different to an average Indian and previously we have found it very good and well spiced. This time too much chilli in many dishes, and the lamb rather over cooked. The cauliflower pickle in the starter was beautifully spiced but overall disappointing for the premium price.

Tapasya is a misleading name for a restaurant that is neither Spanish nor has any obvious connection to Japanese noodle joints such as Kannada-Ya which pointlessly add ‘ya’ to their names. It is an Indian restaurant in a prime location directly overlooking Hull’s marina housed in an ultra-stylish modern building. Judging by its furniture, furnishings, lighting, napery, storage of wine in wall cabinets, display of spirits on a table by the entrance, not to mention its extravagant use of glassware, is quite a classy affair. The lunch deal, which everyone around me was sensibly taking up, is £10.95 for a build-yourself thali in which you choose a starter and main to be added to a vegetable (today potato strips), rice, dal, nan and the dessert of the day, a yellow rice. I chose chicken tikka as a starter and lamb as a main. The combined result was good rather than superlative, the flavours of the meats in particular being mild to bland. The nan was a crispy perfection, though. With a pint of lager and a double espresso (a slightly steep £3.50) the final bill was just over £20. Still overall good value for money.

First time visit not our last. Went for a anniversary meal and from the warm welcome to organising our taxi home the experience was really nice. The food we choose was from the a la carte menu and was some of the best food we have tasted. Big negative was the toilets upstairs which for an arthritis sufferer is not good, although I didn’t notice if there was disabled toilet on the ground floor? The venue was very busy and you need to book a table for a Saturday night as it’s very popular. Our waitress who was lovely was very busy and although obviously was waiting on other tables she was asking if we needed anything on a ad hoc basis which other diners could find annoying.

Visited last night with my boyfriend for his birthday. Firstly the restaurant inside is so nice and the staff were lovely. The food was gorgeous. I can’t eat gluten but could eat nearly everything on the menu (bread aside) and my boyfriend is vegetarian and there were plenty of options. We had some beaut cocktails too. Not the cheapest of restaurants but perfect for a special occasion.

Having heard amazing things about this restaurant we thought we would give it a gos. We had the pre theatre menu for £20 for 3 course. The seekh kebab was to die for the meat just melted in your mouth with a hint of spice. The corn fed chicken main was good, the flavours once again spectactualar but unfortunately a little on the dry side especially for thigh meat. Unfortunatley as with most indian restaurants the dessert was a let down with very little choice, im sure there will be more options on the normal menu though. The drinks where rather expensive and came to £32 for 2 glasses of wine a pint and half and a bottle of water. We would definitely return but maybe try the normal menu

We’re not local to Hull and we were unsure on what we wanted to eat. After searching for somewhere for a while with no hope we stumbled upon this gem! A romantic dinner by the docks. We were in awe of how lovely it was.

Would not recommend anyone spending there hard earned money here

Went on the last day of the Freedom festival ,We've been to the first tapasya on Bev road and liked it a lot.To be honest the marina restaurant seemed so glitzy that it put me off a bit..I didn't want to be on my 'best behaviour' but wanted some good Indian food.

Went to the restaurant for friends birthday meal, the place looked nice, however the service wasn’t that good. One of the waiters brought the wrong drink out and have tried to intimidate one of my friends by talking to them in not a nice tone and arguing that they have ordered it when they haven’t. When ordering the food I have asked for my curry to be a bit more spicy, the waiter again spoke in not a nice manner and acknowledged us that it’s not possible for it to be that way. That it’s either how it is or that it will be extremely spicy that there is no in between and that he’s just going to leave it normal. Wouldn’t let us pick the sides as we were ordering, could only order starters and mains and at the end he just said that he will bring out a few baskets of different nan breads out and a few portions of rice. Which we agreed to because it seemed like we had no other choice. The same waiter brought a severely dirty plate which I have pointed out, he then took it back brought a clean one and apologised. Nobody checked up on us or asked whether everything was okay, I had to ask myself to be brought some more water nobody made sure that everyone has something to drink. The curry and the rice was nice but a few of the nan breads were extremely dry. The only person who actually asked us if everything is okay was a guy from the kitchen when he brought the desserts out and he was the most friendly person out of all of them.

Set menu for £10.95 with some choices so that you end up with 6 small bowls of each - including starter, main, & dessert. It is just enough for lunch for those of us that don't want an excessively heavy portion. At £47 for 3 including drinks including an optional 10 % service charge, it's good value.

We had a delicious meal here and we would have said this was 5 stars apart from the drinks being served with plastic straws. Surely they realise the harm that is caused by single use plastics and they are so not needed in a drink.
