Took out a takeaway and firstly found a teaspoon mixed in with one of the curry dishes which was not appetizing.....whether they left their chef's "tasting spoon "in or it was a random spoon that just happened to fall in ...who knows? Overall the food was bland for curry and extremely oily. Won't go back!

Real shame to be leaving this review but here goes... We ordered takeaway, it arrived within an hour, the rice was nice and that's where the positive review stops. The chicken sag, which was swimming in oil, tasted as such and had zero spice to it, despite me asking for it to be cooked with Madras spice levels. My partner ordered the pasanda which was extremely sweet, which overpowered everything. The chips tasted re-fried and also of oil and the naan bread was stale and chewy. Indian cuisine is some of my favourite food, however unfortunately over half of my meal remains on the plate. This is the last time I will be ordering from here. Don't be fooled by the 4.2 stars. This is not a four star restaurant, be prepared for bland food, swimming in oil.

First time we've used this takeaway. Food was good, delivery was really quick. We'd be happy to use again.

If you want takeaway don't bother, I've now been waiting 1.5 hrs and it's still not here, it was marked as "on it's way" 50 mins ago

Booked a table for 14 family members .. Excellent service throughout. All courses served promptly with a smile. Food was very tasty and very well presented with helpful staff... We will be rebooking near Xmas. Highly Recommend 😃

This is one of the 1st Indians in Hull and still one of the best. Just been 1st time this year. God knows why I've left it so long. Food was outstanding perfectly cooked. Loverly chicken very tender and plenty of it. Great service great value , would highly recommend.

Great food if you sit in to eat. But takeaway is shocking . Order is always wrong, scabby chips. Naan are rock hard, scrappy bits of chicken .

Chicken Chat Puri from here is excellent, well tasty and get plenty for a starter... however the Chicken Passanda tasted like a Korma... but the chicken in all dishes was cooked beautifully.

Worst Indian I’ve ever eaten! It is inedible! Garlic naan is basically solid, tandoori chicken is so dry I couldn’t even swallow the first bite, Popadoms are soft like they’ve been left out all day I darent even taste it, a suspicious curry sauce came that definitely wasn’t tikka and there was about 3 pieces of lamb in the madras.. AWFUL

order was late and the driver was walking with no thermal bag, food was stone cold, not much sauce in the curry so couldn't dip the naan breads we had. absolutely shocking service and food

Very nice meal, everything was correct and tasty.

Curry was delicious and so was the rest. However, I ordered 4 poppadoms only received 1. And to attempt to disguise this the staff broke it down to tiny pieces - not sure if they couldn't be bothered to make any more due to us ordering late. Again food was delicious but because of the way they tried to hide the lack of poppadoms I won't be ordering again.

I came here as I'd heard the food was lovely and reasonably priced. The service as you walked the door was very hands on, so polite and attentive throughout our stay, what can I say about the food! Delicious, tasty, hot and plentyful. I would certainly recommend Tandoor Mahal and we will be returning to try more delicious food. Thank you for making our evening special and your hard work throughout the evening.

Awful service, when we ordered our meals we didn't get it as we had ordered it, when meals arrived it was dry meat and cold, we approached the waiter on this and he refused to change the meal or take it off the bill! Very unhappy, would not recommend and would never return.

Just had an order to collect ..we live a 4 min drive from resturant..all our food was cold, naan bread was so hard we couldnt eat it ,poppadoms were soft,chips were cold and chewy..curry was ok but only 6 pieces of chicken which was a disapointing..i preordered the food and i think its been made far to early for my collection ..complete waste of money

Ordered a takeaway at 5.45, told 45 mins to an hour, called back at 7.05, be there in 5 mins, called at 7.15, be there in 5 mins, turned up at 7.30. I called 5 times asking about delivery times and told it's on its way for over half an hour and I love 5 mins away. I refused the food once it arrived as I already told the person on the phone I wanted a refund because they could not deliver in time , absolutely disgusting

My local Indian place with great service and freshly cooked food. Highly recommended

Me and my partner have started to come here on a regular basis. Nice atmosphere and get good quality food, ask for extra garlic on Naans and they are perfect. Tried a few different curries with different spice levels but not very keen on the butter chicken at all.

Great food, great service, nice ambiance, very reasonable prices for such high quality of authentic food. We also ordered takeaway as one of our party was unable to come to the restaurant with us. Take away was as good as food served in restaurant. I would highly recommend Tanfoor Mahal.

ATTENTION BROWN ASIANS: This is not our food. All it carries is the titles. It's meant for non asians who can't appreciate spices. It tastes bland and syrupy. Eh: Butter chicken tasted like chewy meat in mango sauce. If you are looking for authentic Pak-Indo-Bang-Lankan food, this is definitely not the place, I'm sorry. To all non Asians, go ahead as you might like it.

Found them via Uber Eats as we used to dine here. But the food this time was just awful. The sheek kebabs were like luke warm chicken nuggets and the curry's themselves were flavourless and watery. Even the naan was hard and tasteless. Indian food is always a gamble, especially when it costs £30-40 for a family meal.

Order took 2 hours to arrive. When calling the restaurant I was clearly lied to twice. Food was inevitably cold. Absolutely nothing to praise here. I would certainly avoid and personally will be taking my custom to a restaurant that values its customers. In other words, not here!

We pre booked our table for 7:30 pm new years eve it's our favourite restaurant and has always been brilliant on every level however last night was an experience I don't want to have again! We knew it was going to be busy being new years eve and it was a full house anyway upon arrival we were taken to our table well I say that but there was no table ready for us so the waiter quickly grabbed a table and 4 ripped tatty chairs he was too busy to talk to us rushing his speech he flew off to see to other diners we had yo dress our own table. Under the table was full of rubbish left behind by others previously there was used dirty napkins. Crushed poppadoms and food nobody came to sweep it up our feet had to rest on it all. We was left for nearly an hour before we could order any drinks was unable to get the attention of any waiters so after an hour our drinks arrived during this time there was a large area of very very loud diners a family of drunk parents either children from the age of around 8 upto the ages of maybe 15 the children were so loud u couldn't hear yourself talk they were shouting and screaming jumping off chairs yet the parents didn't stop them they carried on drinking and being loud themselves. We had to ask for our starters as an hour and a half had passed and no good was served to us we could only order 1 poppadoms each no idea why. I said to my family we are not going to get our meal before our pre booked taxi was due . We were left until 9:30 when our meal finally turned up! However our taxi also arrived at the same time so we had yo leave and quickly bag up our food to take home. The service was appalling worst ive ever experienced no apologies nothing. £80 wasted then taxis on top. Opposite where we was seated there was water dripping from the ceiling down to the wall and lighting . Come on guys this was not acceptable and needs sorting .

Table booked at 7:30 it was standardly busy 2 massive groups of tables and rest occasional family size as we was seated our table was not ready. food from previous was all over no cutlery. took 45 minutes to be seen to and that was just for the drinks. On the other side of us they was an over head ceiling light what was dropping with water. we had taxi pre booked so we got home safely. as we was just about to eat at half 9 taxi arrives it was not a great atmosphere only good thing was the food what I enjoyed of what I could definitely lost my custom for future references

Fancied Indian food and been here many times, flavour of all the dishes was bland, I got king prawn biriyani, bloody awful, bits of prawn in which you had to dig for, daughter got a garlic dish, which didn't have garlic in, husband had a scrawny mixed grill, still waiting for the salad, chips and massala sauce was very good, no atmosphere, dull, also soggy poppadoms.

Subsiding Standards Tandoor Mahal was always my go to Indian restaurant. Unfortunately I won’t be rushing back anytime soon! The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy when we entered but the service was rather slow (they seemed to be very busy with take away orders) The food wasn’t particularly flavoursome compared to my previous visits. I’m not sure if they had different staff cooking the food but it certainly wasn’t up to the usual expectation. It was that poor that I didn’t even bother taking home the considerable amount of leftovers! Hopefully they will take note and try to improve and get back to the expected standards

Would highly recommend this restaurant- the menu is adventurous featuring duck and fish. Sauces are tasty and the service was friendly, quick and highly professional! We will be back!

Lamb tikka masala was like fatty rubber. Very disappointed.

Absolutely shocking food & service. Lambs tougher and dryer than leather “its marinated sir” yeh it maybe was 6 days ago when it was cooked. Honestly it was okay pathetically bad. Bad enough for me to log in and write this review. Avoid.

Disgusting service after trying to place order because it says available from Uber eats told not to place the order again as they don’t care that I only live 10 minutes away and they will not deliver to me because I had discount on the order… ridiculous

Just got back home. Service very poor despite the place being quiet. Ordered drinks then had to prompt them to take our food order 15min later. Ordered poppadoms and ran out of pickle. One main arrived with no Nan bread and curry was cold. Sent it back. It came back cold again. Just not good enough.

The naam they gave was burnt. The lamb was a bit raw and less in quantity. This Bengali food/taste should not be confused with that of Indian/Pakistani. Their taste is different. The guy who served was, however, polite and courteous.

I used you for years but last few times food has changed. Not enough flavour. The only word I can think of is bland. Indian food should be anything but bland.

We had a takeaway tonight waiting 2 hours after ringing twice to say on way to turn up missing items, cold chips and greasy food we normally love this place but gone down hill now rang them to complain but didn’t answer my phone

Amazing food with good service, really friendly workers, the lamb tikka is absolutely superb. There’s a variety of different curries for all people to enjoy. One of my favourite Indian restaurant I’ve tried.

Delivery was very poor. We ordered Tandoori Mixed Grill off the bone, when we got it, it was,nt very edible or warm, meat was fatty and the prawns still had the shells on. Kebab was powdery and we wont be going back. We have complained and they have offered a discount next time we use them. Not a chance.

Not been for a few years due to covid but very disappointed and wont be back in a rush Very impersonal service. Food ok but had better and feel the place has lost it's way.

Booked a table for 7 people but when we arrived it was heaving & there wasn’t a table ready & we had to wait. Not a massive problem really & they soon had it ready. We got drinks quick considering. We all ordered & after quite a wait the starters came & they were all fab especially the Sheek kebab. After quite another big wait the mains came this it were it went downhill. All dishes weren’t that nice & I left almost all of mine (butter chicken)because it tasted far too sweet with coconut & it wasn’t meant to as no coconut was mentioned in the description The food usually is really nice so maybe a off night. Even though it was really busy the waiter tried very hard to keep on top & gave decent service. I’ll give it another try but maybe not for a while,

Quite tired interior but I think the pandemic has taken it's toll on independent restaurants so I will not hold that against the place. Food was OK, the pickle tray had some unusual flavour combinations and textures in there, to me the mango chutney tasted like it had ketchup in it. And the mint yoghurt was a strange density. Everything else was fine. 4 courses for £14 midweek.

We had the 4 course set meal at £12.95 each. The food was brought out quickly, there was plenty of it and it tasted very nice. The staff were friendly and polite.

Ordered takeaway and came an hour after delivery slot. Poppadoms & pickle tray was good. Ordered garlic chicken which was watery & lacked any sort of flavour, chips were soggy but onion rice was decent. Chicken tikka was watery but had some flavour. Won't be getting takeaway from here again.

Really odd chicken madras. The chicken was separate from the curry and I have no idea what the curry sauce was as it was cold and gloopy, not sure whether it was a curry at all as there was no flavour. Suffered 2 days after, tbh I still don't feel great now. A total disaster and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Not what it used to be like. Tikka masala was pink and sweet. Naan bread soggy. Dopiaza ok but not much sauce. Balti was just doable. Used to be a big fan of tandoor mahalo but seems to be losing its touch.

This is / was our fave take away indian in hull for two years now but weve just has take out and although , yes ! It was perfectly tasty BUT its lost some of its magic ! My medium karai had no go in it when usually i look forward to it as a bit of an assault to my taste buds ! Not sure whats happened but its become more generic , gutted

Had a take away booked in for 2130, came at 1930, food will now be cold due to me not getting home till 2145... wont answer the phones for an explanation, and was delivered by a taxi...

We have just had a take away from this restaurant, we live in Brough and so have quite a few on our door step but decided to give Tandoor Mahal a try. The food was absolutely amazing, the best Indian take away we've had. So fresh and tasty...delicious! We will be using this restaurant on a regular basis. I can't recommend highly enough!

We recently had a delivery from what was our go to Indian restaurant. Alas, standard's have gone south for the winter, maybe longer. Our dishes were watery, and lacked flavour. We were not expecting bland watery food. Usually very tasty and fully flavoured. Total dissapoint meant. In these tragic times we all need a lift.

This is my first visit this place. It was the best place I have gone to for fine dining in Hull. we were warm welcome by gorgeous waiter. The restaurant owner / manager is very good down to earth and provided high class service despite there were no booking left as the restaurant was fully booked due to half price. He is very humble and provide excellent customer service. We have ordered Lamb Karahi, chicken Bhuna and Tarka Dal. Food is cooked at very high standard, Tasty and delicious. There is plenty nice dishes you can choose from menu. Fantastic, restaurant was clean and food was amazing, will definitely visit again. Thank you for serving us.

Chose this place based on a good recommendation and an encouragingly small menu. Called to make a booking two days before, the man answered the phone with "hello" (and nothing more), then seemed confused that I'd want to make a booking. I actually thought I had the wrong number. I wish I'd taken this as an omen and gone elsewhere.Arrived with my husband and parents-in-law at 8PM for an 8PM booking. At first we were ignored, then (after confirming my name and that I had booked, three times) we were reluctantly led to a table and left alone for quite some time. The restaurant was uncomfortably overcrowded and excruciatingly hot and noisy. Everything about the place screamed tacky from the undersized plastic tables to the cheap uncomfortable chairs, to the noisy flooring to the LED strip lighting drooping out of the MDF wall decorations. The music playing was loud and extremely unrelaxing but this was mostly drowned out by rowdy tables screaming and swearing, including the one which gawped at us as we arrived as though we were aliens, monsters or the like.With the mood set, we waited about 15 minutes for someone to take our drinks order and another 10 for a very rude man to take our food order. Our papadoms, pickles and drinks came after about 15 more minutes and, a whole hour after arriving at the restaurant, our starters arrived. As we'd had to ask after these the waiter apologised and said it was because I had ordered the fish pakoras. Firstly this was rude and, were I not with family, might have made me a bit uncomfortable. Secondly, this was ridiculous - 4 small nuggets of fish, be them fresh or frozen, do not take an hour to batter and fry. Clearly, either a mistake was made in the kitchen, the kitchen was unprepared or we should have been forewarned of a long wait. An apology would have been preferable to a transparent lie. As it happened the pakoras were inauthentic and completely underwhelming. The tika starter and onion bhajis were nice enough, though the stuffed pepper was a greasy sloppy mess. Our plates were not collected for some time.After another 30 minute wait, our mains came - lamb biriani, lamb madras, lamb bhuna, mixed karai, pilau rice and a couple of naans. All was perfectly mediocre but acceptable except the naans which were honestly really excellent.In terms of service, we found the staff rude, inefficient and poorly trained. One waiter actually stood on my husband's foot as he was serving us. My husband pulled his foot away and the waiter didn't even mention it or apologise. My husband thought this might have been deliberate because we had enquired (very diplomatically) about waiting so long for the starters whilst later arrivals were served much faster. There was no way he couldn't have noticed this. Waiters were constantly leaning over the entire table to place and collect things. I had an armpit or two thrust in my face. This was despite the table being accessible from both sides. I asked for a drink and actually had to ask for the waitress to take my old glass.After the mains were collected, we were not offered deserts or coffees and nobody came back so I simply went to the bar to pay and we left. Had we not been with my husband's parents we would have left much much sooner!I go to restaurants for good food (I'm perfectly capable of making at least mediocre food, at home) and a good time. This experience provided neither. Thus, I have no intention of ever recommending or going to this restaurant ever again.

Due to Covid they offer a take away service, but still cooked from within the restaurant kitchens.The bill was £53 for this we got 2 Kahrai (tasteless & swimming in oil) 2 Tandoori chickens (Tasteless, dry & slightly undercooked) 2 Boiled rice (no complaint) 2 curry sauce (Oily/watery & lacking depth of flavour something missing Methi/fenugreek ? )Keema naan ( dry tasteless meat filling, bread was good ) Shami & Sheek kebab (dry with little flavour) 2 Chips (large portions nicely cooked) 2 chupatis (good) pickle tray & Popad (popads nice & crisp not oily) Salad a( bag of chopped drying lettuce with a wedge of lemon). 2 Tarka Dahls (Nice & tasty Garlic flavour).Having just recently spent 6 weeks working in Walsall & eating at some amazing Pakistani/Bangladeshi cafes & restaurants , I thought I'd give this renowned & award winning restaurant a go. Sorely disappointed.

Visited with my sister & both our partners for our birthdays. We ordered a pickle tray & asked for one to be substituted. This was not a problem at all.We all ordered different main meals & all left very happy. Not expensive at all. Good food & friendly staff

We went here based on the recommendation from a friend and I am so glad we did! After our favourite Indian closed down we have struggled to find one that we really like but I think we have found it here. The food was delicious. We got a takeaway and live about 15 minutes away in car however the food was still piping hot when we got home. The bahjis were unreal, my chicken tikka masala had so much flavour and the naan bread was perfect (soft how it should be not overdone and crispy). Me and my partner both really enjoyed it and we will always come here from now on.

Been coming here for 30years or more..not been for a while but came for a meal and was really disappointed with changespickle tray looked like everything came out of a jar, the lime pickle was old, had two big hard dry lumps in it, looked out of date, mango chutney was just some reddish colour sloppy sauce, havent a clue what the white stuff was,Our mushroom rice had dried mushroom in, like cardboard, i had chicken tikka Korai, chicken was pressed chicken, same with my husbands lamb tikka rajastan, every piece was same size, no option for chicken or lamb without the tikka , looked like it came out of a freezer bag from Heron. All young staff, english and polish, one indian guy, this place has gone down big style in quality, no fresh ingredients, in our opinion it has lost all its Authenticity, shame as it was our favourite for years. We wont be going back

In Hull for one night. Spotted this one driving by. Was busy. Pleasant atmosphere and surroundings. Staff friendly and attentive. Not impressed with starter, not much on the plate but main meals were good potion size snd we scoffed the lot. Good selection of food and reasonably priced.

Facied using Meerkat so decided to go local . Tried booking called several times during the day no answer eventually some one called me back and we managed to book.On arrival to the completely empty cold restaurant we was eventually met by a waiter. Granted we where early dinners but you would expect the place to be ready.I ordered garlic mushrooms, I’ve spared the picture due to it looking like dog sick . Didn’t taste any better . Husband got butterflied prawn he said it was bland both dishes had a sorry looking salad as garnish.Mains lamb .. Madras and Biriani . It was ok nothing to shout about . Sorry salad for garnish on Biriani . I’d rethink presentation it may help with enjoying the food.Service good polite friendly . Really wanted to be blown away as the restaurant has been a local one for many years shame , nothing special probably good on a drunken night out .Could do much better.
