Never a bad meal at ruby spice. Everything arrives piping hot and each bite is lush. I especially love the naan breads very fresh and soft

This restaurant/ takeaway has closed. There is now a Japanese takeaway in the same shop. Don't be fooled by them taking orders on line .

Do not believe what the website says, this place is not open right now, but will still take your money and not give it back for another 3-5 working days. Gee thanks right before Christmas too! Absolutely disgusted, will not be using again that's for sure. Had to give one star because zero is not accepted, which is what I want to give.

Twice they have taken my money then declined the order leaving me without food as I can't get a refund for 3 to 5 days absolutely disgusted and fuming 😡😡😡

Past twice tried to order message back after waiting 45 mins to say shop closed, & will refund within 5 days when shop is open. Obviously can't be arsed.

Ordered online for delivery, they didn't even reply for an hour and then said it would still take another hour. No possible way to contact them as they've turned off their phone. More than happy to still take our money though. Edit: After the two hours of waiting, my wife decided to walk to the restaurant to find that they had closed early without sending our order. An absolute joke of a takeaway, avoid like the plague if you ever want to actually eat the food that you ask for

Just had a delivery from Ruby Spice which is normal very good. But tonight wot a shame The delivery man didnt have a clue on the price paid nearly £30 for a £25 meal. And it was the most greasy Indian i've ever had.

Ordered online food at 5pm to be delivered at 6pm. At 6.45pm I called to ask when they will be delivering only to be told they had no access to "their system". They took my order again and eventually it turned up at 7.10pm. As I was a first time online customer, I was given a 20% discount, only to be told that I ordered over the phone so I wasn't. The food itself was astonishing. but not in a good way. I love Indian cooking and any self respecting Indian cook would have thrown this in the toilet as indeed I did if you get my meaning.

Placed the order by scanning QR code from a leaflet which I got from the shop weeks earlier, it took me to the order page where I placed my order for delivery at 6pm to be delivered at 20:20 and payment was taken. At 20:30 I called the takeaway to see where the order was , then said wouldn’t be long , called again at 20:45 and was told they were running late and would be 10 minutes. At 21:05. Called again and the shop called the driver who said he had delivered everything, I said he hadn’t been to my address and that’s when he asked me which platform I’d ordered with , told him how I’d ordered off his flyer and he said they don’t use that anymore, I said well it took my order and sent me an email confirming it , he said he’d make the order which I had to reorder on the phone and finally at 10pm it arrived..!! Only good thing was food was nice

What an amazing place this is, the service and food are impeccable, this was the best curry my husband snd I have ever tasted , nothing is too much trouble for the friendly professional waiting staff and the chef is a genius. I asked for a dish to be tweaked and it was no trouble at all, you could taste every fresh ingredient in the food , superb night. Thank you

This restaurant is so poorly run !! tables not made up had to take napkins of another table because we had nothing on ares , a old yogurt tub for the bins in toilets beer was of vinegar taste , ordered poppadoms got 1 x dip never had that before in any Indian restaurant made us laugh , the only waiter working only had 2 tables in and was all over the place but was such a nice guy so friendly definitely needs some kind of running a restaurant cause , didn’t seem to have any structure of how to run a restaurant, After this though the food amazing was actually outstanding delicious chicken madras Nan bread delicious Bombay potatoes delicious was very shocked on how nice it was , with delicious food like this you could turn over tables all night long with ease!!! But god knows what it would be like if it was busy they couldn’t handle 2 tables missing tricks here big time , give the seating host / waiter some training and you got it made !!!! Little gold mine if was run probably !!!

Food is exceptional and the best and most attentive service you could hope for a family run restaurant that make you feel more than welcome

The food at Ruby Spice is absolutely delicious, I've eaten in the restaurant and through take away and it's always fantastic with great choice too. Staff are very helpful and assist with choosing a meal. My only reason for not choosing 5 stars is because it is quite tricky ordering take away; the Just Eat version doesn't show the whole menu, and if you try ordering on their own website, it doesn't allow you to add your postcode and process the order. It can hen be quite hard to put the order in over the ttelephone.

Second Time ordered and was fabulous! (First time also) they helped describe a different meal I don't usually choose but purely because I wanted try to something different they was great help! Chicken tikka masala is a massive winner in my house and for the adults we has chicken parashi which was a wonderful change. I am no good with dips so as I went and collected he brought a plate of all of them to explain which was what...such a kind thing to do! Mixed pickle is what was wanted and he even gave a extra dip free 😀 Always fantastic service at Ruby spice with divine tasty food. Will be ordering again for sure.

Simply the best Indian meal I've had 👌

We ordered from Ruby Spice for the first time tonight, as we have been let down a few times with the other Indian we used. Well it was with us within the hour. My vegetarian balti was spot on. And the son and hubbys curry's had loads of chicken in. Very impressed. Will deffo be ordering from here again.

the original order was going to be 1hr 10 mins, it turned up 30 minutes late and was luke warm at best. then one of the main meals was wrong, they sent a chicken Korma, not a Tikka Masala which my daughter doesnt like.. as my wife was eating main meal she found her garlic nann was mouldy on the back, this nearly made her sick and put her off her meal. the chicken tikka massala that did come was really watery, the chips where that over cooked that some of them were hollow! the onion bhajis were full of oil and very greasy. the raita was pink, very watery and tasted terrible all in all a terrible meal, gutted i just wasted £70 on a disgusting meal, will never use them again

I am writing this review on behalf of my mum and her friend who recently had an upsetting and unpleasant experience at Ruby Spice. They had booked a table in the name of Wednesday 19th August at 7pm. The table was booked over the telephone and on this call, they advised Ruby Spice that within the party of 4 there were 2 wheelchair users. They was assured by the gentleman on the phone that the restaurant was wheelchair friendly. However, upon arriving at the restaurant the party was unable to gain access to the restaurant. Steps inside the entrance and no room for manouvering made it impossible for the wheelchairs to enter safely. A member of staff did say he would help them to get in, but he was unable to do so; and after trying he just walked off and didn't offer any apology or explanation. After that, not one other member of staff came to speak to/assist the party. The whole situation was very embarrassing and upsetting for everyone, especially as other diners were trying to assist. Understandably, they left the restaurant, deciding to go to neighbouring Meze to eat, as it was so close by and it was pouring with rain. Although they had good food and service at Meze, the dining experience there was marred by the fact all four were rain soaked due to the debacle of trying to enter Ruby Spice premises, not to mention they were understandably still upset. In addition, one of the reasons that they chose Ruby Spice was to take advantage of the government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme and unfortunately the party ended up spending much more money than they anticipated at the Meze restaurant. We have emailed the restaurant with these details and awaiting a reply. We have suggested that they ensure all staff are aware of this incident, as to avoid embarrassment and distress to future customers.

We visited tonight for the first time in many months. We had stopped going because we had had a few meals that weren’t good. Anyway, we decided to give Ruby Spice one last try and take advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out offer. I’m so glad we did. We had poppadoms, four main meals, sides and drinks. Service was a bit slow but they were very busy. We all said our meals were excellent. We will definitely be back

My wife and I chose Ruby Spice again for our take away treat. The food is consistently excellent Indian cuisine from a restaurant which stands out amongst the best in the city. We shared Saag Chicken and King Prawn Korai both of which were outstanding. Thank you Ruby Spice.

Not off to a good start! Attempted to book a table for two a couple of days prior to meal, and they took no name and booking didn’t feel guaranteed. Arrived at the restaurant (10 minutes late) and our table wasn’t even ready for us, makes me wonder if they didn’t do our booking properly. Firstly, we ordered drinks, there was only 1 type of bottled beer left, but understandable as we did visit late on Wednesday night (eat out to help out scheme). Ordered a Malibu and coke also, but had to ask for another as the coke tasted flat and horrible, the coke had been sat on the side (warm) the whole time we were there. However, the second attempt was much better. Ordered poppadoms for starters, took 25minutes for ready made poppadoms to even reach our table, and we were given no napkins. Mains arrived straight after due to the fact we waited so long for poppadoms, and the saag paneer was greasy and tasteless. I had a korma which was lovely, however my partner ordered a bhuna which was okay. Waiter did his best but could tell he was very stressed due to the high volume of people. Overall, not good. Unfortunately we won’t be returning.

The chicken tikka Balti was delicious and staff was very nice and food came out quickly and very generous portions and very much worth the price. Lamb is very soft and nice.

Visited on Saturday evening with 3 friends, our first visit for a few months - we were welcomed warmly and the food remains as good as ever - my Lemon Chilli Chicken, mushroom rice and keema naan were all excellent and our next visit is not far away.

I visit here often as the food is amazing as well as excellent service. The staff are very attentive and make you feel very welcome. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I visited Ruby Spice with my boyfriend on a Saturday evening and the food was amazing, as was the service. Even though I had only been to Ruby Spice once before, the waiter remembered me and asked after me, which was really nice. We both shared poppadoms with tasty dips and my boyfriend also went for a starter. We both had spicy lamb curries for our mains and the meat was very succulent, with just the right amount of spice, watered down with a draught beer. We also shared rice and a naan and that was plenty between both of us. I will definitely be back and would recommend a visit as it was affordable, great food and great service.

Always enjoyed our take aways previously. One hour and 30 minite wait when you're starving kind of ruined it tonight. Wish people wouldnt accept an order if they can't fulfil it within a reasonable time scale. And it's freezing cold.

Always a superb curry and we are always very well looked after every time we come or get a takeaway. Our boys love it here too, that might have something to do with the poppadoms!

Waited over two hours for delivery. They said it would be between 30-50mins. Food came cold and I got the wrong curries in my delivery. Completely wrong order. Really not happy and disappointed after waiting so long.

So disappointed. Having ordered takeaway from this restaurant a number of times before, I was really looking forward to our order this evening, which I was told would be ready for collection at 19:30 (a good 40 minutes after I called up and especially asked it to be ready for...). Upon arrival, my boyfriend was kept waiting for a whole 20 minutes – as though the food hadn’t even been started. When we returned home, our main course, fish masala with sauce, had been made without sauce - just dry chunks of fish. We rang up, politely explained and asked they delivery us a new one, which they said would be 45 mins! After explaining this is too long, the magically said it would be 30 minutes... still too long but what can you do when they’re this inflexible. An hour and 10 minutes later, and after multiple phone calls chasing it, the new dish arrived, we asked for a refund and the delivery driver said he didn’t carry cash(!). We then called the restaurant and asked for the driver to come back and refund us and the guy on the phone would barely stop for air and let us speak. So argumentative and unapologetic. We then ate that dish (without the other parts of our order which had now gone cold), to find a piece of CHICKEN IN THE FISH CURRY. Used to be a good place, can only assume it’s under new management. Appalled by the service.

Do not order from this restaurant as the driver didn’t have a clue where he is going , it took half an hour explaining on the phone where we lived ... I cancelled the order because by the time it would of got to us it would of being cold! When ordering food and delivering to peoples houses you should know and have an idea of hulls streets and addresses! JOKE

We have been visiting this restaurant for years & the food and service are always first class.My favourite curry was taken off the new menu, but not a problem, they made it for me anyway. Thank you, a very happy customer.As always we will be back soon.

Eat in or take away - this is the best Indian restaurant in the city by some margin. Don’t be put off by its humble surroundings - it’s the food that counts and this joint nails it. The Nawabi Khana is one of the best curries I have ever tasted - and its as good every time, which is a testament to their consistency. Overall a great find.

....but the fourth, a takeaway, was not nice. If you're a fan of bland and chewy - ignore me. Meal 1 was a takeaway and enjoyable. Nice and good value.

Prices different to online, £2 more Ordered kashmiri was given korma and told that's their Kashmiri Was told dips were 80p, we asked if that was per dip or for a tray, they said 80p per tray, was charged £4.80 for the tray Very long wait Only reason I'm giving two stars was because the food we ate, although not what we ordered, was nice.

Second to none given that delivery does not happen, told 40 mins delivery 1 hour 10 mins later after ringing back and saying too long past it now driver turns up calls me all sorts then calls my phone 4 hours later no doubt to use more words expressing more upset for a meal I was told delivered in 40ims not to arrive till 30mins later after cancelling and I deserve abuse yeah right

With the demise of Tapasya on Beverley Road, I have been looking for somewhere near to there to go to for a while. Ruby Spice is a small and an unassuming looking restaurant on Cottingham Road near the junction of Beverley Road. I've been several times now, and I have enjoyed it every time. Last Friday saw me try the excellent King Prawn Puree for a starter, something called Karachi Flavour, which was an amazing mixture of tender lamb, minced chicken breast, spinach and tomatoes; all covered in crumbled egg. I also ordered a Garlic Naan and a side dish of Aloo Paneer. The Aloo Paneer was ok, but could have coped with more spice, but everything else was amazing; in particular the main course, which I'd never had before. This is a real find and I would recommend this highly!

Excellent meal. Had chicken saag and ask it to be madras hot which was offered no problem. Absolutely delicious and good portion too as was all thr side bits.

I've had takeaways from Ruby Spice a couple of times and the food is always very moreish. Portions are large and the range of dishes interesting. On this visit I tried the Sughonda, a medium hot dish of chicken tikka chunks in a thick sauce, which was spot on with some Mushroom Rice. But there are many other dishes from different regions and eras in Indian history in my sights. There are Nawabi dishes (popular around Lucknow) such as Nawabi Special Khana, an Afghani Style dish of chicken or lamb, and a range of Bengali favourites including the classic Rejala. Prices are very good – you'll pay just over a tenner for a most curries, with rice and a nan – and the staff are very friendly and helpful when it comes to advising on dishes.

Had lamb phall - beautiful! Onion bhaji, okra (bindi) bhaji, yoghurt riata, steamed rice and pashwari naan, everything was incredible. Will be back and highly recommending to others. Thank you for a wonderful takeaway. Compliments to your team.

Last delivery was ridiculous, lost their driver, tonight no credit card machine, can't work out how they came to the price and then delivered without the 11 poppadoms we ordered, we are still waiting now!!! Also when does bloody pineapple come in a "rwlr danshak, Never ever going back here!!!! 1 hour later no delivery and asking for extra money NEVER use here, bloody useless Would give 0 stars if possible

A first but not my last visit to this Indian restaurant of which is basic with good service and for a change in Hull not bland food. Lots of nice spices in the dansak and the biriani had a nice zing too.

Just returned from an early evening meal for the two of us. The meal was tasty and delivered in good time. Although through our meal we had lots of fruit flies around the table. I mentioned this to the staff and apparently this is due to the warm weather we have had, not sure about that one though, don't think we will be returning customers.

Only received half an order on an early weekday evening. Had to ring for rest of order. Would love to know what mistakes they could make on a busy night. Curry very bland. No spice, and just tasted of chilli and tomato. Rice under seasoned. Have used many times before but never again. Don’t know what has happened to the restaurant but we threw our meals away as they were not nice to eat at all. Complete waste of money.

We had a delivery (ordered from just eat), amount ok but all very bland, yes spicy hot in parts but lacking the ingredients that give Indian food distinctive flavour. Not impressed.

I went there with my family and the staff were super kind and the food was fabulous. Very welcoming. 5 food hygiene rating. I had the chicken madras and it was tremendously beautiful although it was a tad too sweet but it was still amazing. 5 stars!

We dropped in on Wednesday evening and were immediately warmly greeted and seated. We have been regular visitors since the restaurant opened, and have always thoroughly enjoyed the high standards of cooking and the friendly service. The staff genuinely care about their customers. This restaurant caters well for non-meat eaters, and the staff willingly recommend different meals, although I find it hard to steer myself away from the Noorjahani fish! Four of us went again last night. We are regular visitors simply because the food is wonderful. We make a round trip of 80 miles or so to visit the Ruby and we do it gladly. My favourite dish is the Naga curry either with chicken tikka or the lamb. The flavour is amazing and the depth of taste always rewarding. Eaten with a pair of chapatti and a bombay aloo side it is the perfect meal. The restaurant was a little quiet even for a Wednesday but that does not detract from the pleasing surroundings, we chatted for around three hours whilst eating a leisurely meal and will happily return.

Four of us visited again last night. We ordered King Prawn Agni, Lamb Naga curry, Noorjahani Fish, Masalla Fish with chapattis, Nan breads, lemon rice and two side dishes - tarka dhal and Bombay potato. The food was delicious and the service excellent. We’ve been many times and it is our favourite restaurant in Hull. The bill, including four cobras and a bottle of wine, came to £100 - excellent value for an excellent meal

I recently came with a group of friends and loved it so much that I brought my boyfriend. The service is amazing, the staff are so friendly which creates such a good atmosphere, they even remembered me from before. The food is so good and cooked to perfection. The staff really take pride in what they do. Thank you for a lovely night. So sorry we didn’t leave a tip we completely forgot!!! We will be back x

Had a very warm welcome when we arrived, the smells from the kitchen were mouth watering. Our waiter recommended a very nice wine which was less expensive than my usual choice. I wouls normally stick to a tikka masala but decided to try the honey mango chicken which is now my new favourite. My friend likes her curry hot and sweet but wasn't sure what to choose. She was recommended the lemon chilli chicken which she also really enjoyed. It was out first time here and not the last, the atmosphere was really warm and the staff have a great sense of humour.

One of our many visits and they never fail to disappoint! The service is great, everyone is so friendly and chatty and the food arrives in perfect timing. The food is absolutely amazing and my go to chicken passanda doesn’t taste as nice in any other Indian! Would recommend to everyone for the lovely food and atmosphere and how great the service is. Will be coming back very soon I don’t doubt!

I went to Ruby Spice with friends last night and it was excellent across the board, great service and amazing food. I had the chicken sobuj for my main and the flavours and spices were delicious, I did want it to end! I had the garlic chilli king prawns for starter and it was so tasty if I wasn't in polite company I would have licked my plate!!!! The guys who work there are lovely and welcoming and very helpful in explaining the dishes, great atmosphere and the food is great quality, reasonably priced and delicious.

Jake gave us a really warm welcome, very friendly and gave us some suggestions on meals after he asked what we usually go for and how hot we like our curries.

Really helpful and friendly staff Jak our waiter helped advise on the food how hot etc and also we could choose to make any of the dishes milder or hotter which is something that cant be done at all Indian restaurants....service was efficient but not rushed...and I would definitely recommend this restaurant....have eaten here before with family and friends and will be visiting again very soon

I came here with a big group for a colleague’s leaving meal and it was really good so when my boyfriend suggested we went out for curry I immediately said we should go here!

We were a group of 17 people and we had a blasting evening! Jame and Jack were very friendly and they did all their best to let us enjoy it. Food was delicious, with a large variety of indian/pakistani/afghani dishes. Prices were excellent as well considering the quality you get. Thanks again guys!

we decided to visit here after reading the good reviews . the server was a nice enough chap.. my sizzling starter for two was nice enough .my wife said her korma was pretty bland. the nan bread was cold. my curry was okay but i wouldn't get too excited about . probably had better m and s prepared curries . my sister tandoori chicken prawns etc was nice .her nan bread hot . her husband had a hot curry and liked it . washed down by many beers.

I’m not massively into my Indian food I usually stick to a basic tikka masala but my boyfriend is , he brought me here this evening and to be honest I was pretty anxious about what food to get , the waiter recommended a different dish and it was absolutely amazing !! Food all superb and service is excellent also. Will defiantly return :)

A small family celebration for my daughter's 40th birthday 3 weeks ago, from the minute we were seated the service was excellent. All the food was exceptional, especially the fish dishes chosen by my husband and myself. All in all I would say it was the best Indian meal I have ever had. Jammie (spelled correctly I hope ) was a wonderful host and kept us thoroughly entertained. You are a star. To top it off a surprise birthday cake arrived with a candle and the song. Such a lovely touch. We are back again on Saturday for my husband's birthday. Can't wait.

My partner and I ate at Ruby Spice on Monday night. We opted for the 5 course meal offer which is fantastic value. We added some poppadoms to start. The food was amazing! By far the best Indian I’ve EVER been too. Massive portions, all cooked fresh and brilliant service. All in all a cheap night. See you again very soon!

Came here as a couple. Lovely service and tasty curry for a decent price. Only negatives would be the poppadums and dips to start-the dips didn't seem fresh (and last time I came here I thought the same). Avoid the dips, go for starters and mains instead!

The best curry house in Hull. A wide choice of dishes and very friendly staff. Close to the university so no excuse not to visit if you are studying there and they offer student discount.

I’ve been coming to Ruby Spice for quite a few years now and the food is always fantastic. They have a a wide range of curries from the classics to some that are more extravagant. If you’re feeling adventurous the staff are welcome to ideas to customise a menu item by making it hotter or adding ingredients, or even make you something totally different not on the menu! Highly recommended if you’re looking for a decent curry house in Hull, 10/10!
