This place is operated by the same owners as Drake's Tabanco, which was on this site before Tapas 44. I haven't visited Tapas 44 but I thought the following might be relevant to potential customers: I was one of many who got food poisoning at Drake's Tabanco and the owners responded to our case extremely inadequately and unfriendly. I have never been treated in such a way in these kind of situations. We made sure to alert potential customers on tripadvisor (feel free to visit the old Drake's Tabanco review page on TA for more information) and I assume that was one of the reasons why they now renamed the restaurant. Be aware!

¡Ir!

Me encantó. Gente encantadora que sirve, comida fantástica. No puedo hablar de eso lo suficiente. Voy a muchos restaurantes de Londres y espero que este tenga los seguidores que merece.

Tapas 44 has just opened on the site of Drakes Tabanco in Windmill Street in the heart of the west end. This is the second time we have visited since opening and the food was excellent. The menu is really interesting and the flavours to die for. Everything we tried from the menu was not only very tasty but interesting and different. The staff were excellent and happy to give advice, get there quickly before it gets too popular!

I’m shocked to discover that this place has been open on my doorstep for a quarter of a century and I’ve only just discovered it. The important bit: you won’t find a better steak at a better price. Or a better steak full stop. Hamid and Sirous (manager and proprietor) can advise you what to order. I’ve forgotten our starters (they were good) because the steak is the story. The côte de boeuf we shared was cooked to perfection and large enough to satisfy three healthy appetites coming as it did with salad and fries. Another thing: the wine list. No wine was over £35. The excellent Côtes du Rhône that we had was only £30, a price that justified a second bottle. The dessert menu is limited but that doesn’t matter as diners are unlikely to have any appetite left after the steak. Service was superb. An excellent experience in every way.

We (2 people) reserved for an off-peak time, around 6pm. It was quiet, the mood was very warm, very cosy. Christmas lights and wooden decor gave it such a rustic feel. Great to dine comfortably in. The food. We ordered a 2person chicken and chorizo paella and 3 tapas. The tapas were a good light food that were appropriately mild in taste, but still a distinct, flavourful kick - quite impressive. And the paella was magnificant. Altogether, we were already full by the paella. We wouldve loved to have dessert, but our stomachs couldnt handle it :( we decided the food was an 8.5/10, averaged between us. Service wise, absolutely brilliant. Luca was so friendly, making sure we were ok from time to time, asking us whether we wanted drinks or refill of drinks. Being patient with taking our orders, all with a smile on his face and genuine positive attitude :)) Overall great place, great food, great time.
