Tanoshii Fusion in Winchester

Delicious food and great value cocktails (2 for 1 special offer!). The only thing that spoilt the experience was that the menu clearly listed many items as gluten free. We had a coeliac in our group, but when she checked with the waitress, it emerged that most things weren't, as they were all cooked in the same oil. This is very misleading and potentially dangerous. Our friend had such a reduced choice of dishes, which didn't seem fair, especially when the menu seemed to be clear.

Excellent food, lovely staff and according to my wife, the best espresso martini in Winchester, definitely become one of our favourite restaurants in Winchester.

We (my wife and me) had a rare opportunity for a night out with my brother and his wife who wanted Thai cuisine. This little gem has been open for 20 Winchester but I had not been before. I will definitely go back the next opportunity I get. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was amazing. We were extra lucky for it to be two for one cocktails and it recently being Margarita Day (apparently according to a programme I watched), I did not want to miss the chance to have my favourite cocktail. All the cocktails were made to perfection. A really nice night out.

Our second time here and it won't be our last. Quality food, service and experience that's worth the money. We had a three course meal and all portions were large. Special shout out to the desert, which was incredible.

Lunchtimes this restaurant serves Bento boxes. I had a vegetable tempura bento with not just the crispy battered veg with a dipping sauce, it had rice, salad, crispy tofu and miso soup with shredded veg and tofu which arrived quickly and was beautifully presented - all for a tenner! My partner also had a bento - seafood sashimi (5 types) with gyozas, pickled ginger, wasabi, rice and seaweed salad plus the miso soup. We left feeling full, the food arrived quickly, was delicious, beautifully presented and skilfully cooked. (Amazingly the cafe called bento in the town doesn't sell them!) This place is just outside the Westgate in Upper High Street and is well worth a visit.

We ordered a takeaway tonight for my birthday , so disappointed we ordered katsu chicken it came with no rice or katsu sauce & cost £15 all food so overpriced & extremely small portions the whole meal came to £50 we got very little for our money & will definitely not be returning !! Such a shame as the old owners food were superb

Fantastic food. Service was very polite but incredibly disorganised. We had to ask for someone to take our order after sitting there for 30 minutes, and we noticed other tables do the same. Confusion over what we’d ordered. Had to chase our mains 90 minutes after arriving. This is such a shame as the food is great. I’d hesitate to recommend due to the very slow and haphazard service.

Fantastic fresh spicy delicious food in lovely surroundings. As the name suggests the menu covers a significant range of Asian cuisines, all taste and look great.

Food, as always, is exceptional, no complaints with the quality of it. Service on the other hand was really poor. We had booked our table for two but only had cutlery and glasses for one, which wasn’t corrected (after asking twice). We had our starters out pretty quickly but then waited nearly an hour for our mains despite seemingly quick service for every other table in the room (same happened when other larger tables ordered drinks and would receive them before ours despite us having asked first). We were never approached and asked if we needed anything despite sat with no food on the table (or plates, despite asking for these twice too), so had to grab the attention of staff every time. Final thing that irritated the experience was the involuntary adding of a 10% service charge to our bill for a table of just two people who had a poor experience (which we asked to be removed, and they did, in fairness), it doesn’t seem right to add this. Great food, poor service, which unfortunately made the experience poor on balance.

Fabulous food, service and atmosphere. Couldn’t have asked for more! Wonderful evening and no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

Had a busy day and decided to treat ourselves to a tanoshi. Rang up and was told they didnt deliver and no mention of this on there website… or that later we could have order through just eat. No crackers like they used to do and the nigiri salmon is double the price of samurai and 2 more then 21 sushi. Also the slim lined menu left us short on options A loyal customer for over ten years I won’t be bothering again.

We struggled to find a restaurant in Winchester, which met everyone in the groups expectation. This restaurant is family owned/operated, and highly rated. They did not disappoint! The service from the owner himself was five-star, and the food was absolutely delicious. A wonderful fusion of Chinese, Japanese and Thai. Certainly something for everyone’s selection. We will definitely be coming back!

I have eaten at Tanoshii a few times and the food is always very good. This latest visit was spoilt somewhat by inconsistent service. The restaurant was busy and unfortunately we seemed to take lower priority to a group of 10 that had arrived just before us. It was 45 minutes before our food order was taken and although the starters and mains came promptly we then had to wait over 30 minutes once our desserts had been ordered for them to arrive even with two requests as to where they were. To add insult to injury we were then presented with the bill while we were still eating as they obviously wanted to finish for the evening. We did raise the issue of the service with one of the staff and she had the good grace to deduct the cost of one of the desserts.

A very pleasant welcoming restaurant in the upper part of the city. Serves Asian fusion food with a Japanese bias. The dining area is compact but very comfortable, and it was not noisy. The service was prompt and friendly. Portion sizes are generous to a fault. My soft shelled crab was beautifully cooked and came in a large basket. The Singapore noodles (rice variety) were a riot of distinct flavours served in a large portion. We will certainly go there again.

We booked this restaurant because we enjoyed it 5 years ago, and their standards have not slipped. Very friendly staff, with a great sense of humour. We went for the first set menu, this has plenty of variety, and a lot of flavour. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and will be back.

Very clearly labelled vegan options with many to choose from - the lettuce wraps were incredible. Gluten free options available for both a meat and vegetarian diet which is clear to establish also.

Pick anything off the menu and revel in the copious amounts of ginger, garlic, coriander and spices. Great food at affordable prices. They also deliver!

Fantastic dinner for four, every dish superb. We had seafood platter, lamb and duck as mains, and they were fantastic. The service was very friendly and efficient. Pricing was fair given the quality and huge portions, the doggy bag served me well the next day! Wine was also fairly priced. We eat out often, but this was my first time here, but it will be the first visit of many. Well done, you’re doing a great job. Thank you.

We booked the restaurant to celebrate our sisters birthday and they made such an effort (even gifting her an embroidered bag!).The staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered 2x silk road and 2x oriental delight set menus along with a sushi platter for 5 people.The tempured soft shell crab and sushi were exceptional. The gyoza and duck wraps were also delicious. Excellent sense of humour from staff, who were very accomodating. We will be back again soon! A must go to restaurant.

This is our second visit to this gem of a restaurant. We went for my daughters 21st and everything was just so special . The decor is beautiful and we love the dress of the servers. Went there on the basis of the good reviews. Terrible food. The dim sums were soggy, the massaman chicken curry was basically some constituted chicken with some soggy aubergine and green veg with what look like thick jar sauce poured over. The chicken thankfully in the Phad Thai was really chicken but old and chewy. I am not sure of the standard of these people writing these great reviews but by even basic standard the food was pretty poor here. And all this at a fairy high price too. Some pretty simple main dishes at £14-£15. I haven’t seen these prices since my trips to Knightsbridge in places like the Good Earth. Anyway you have been warned. I have tasted better takeaways from my local Mr Wong.

We come to this restaurant few times a year for special occasions. We have many lovely memories and had great dinners but yesterday we had a disastrous experience with takeaway. Firstly, we were told that food would be ready in 20-30 minutes for collection but 40 minutes later when we got there, our order was just passed over to the kitchen, so it took us 20 minutes more waiting for our order to get prepared. The quality of the food was appalling. Tasted as not fresh. Extremely disappointing. This has been the second time now that we’ve been let down, I have to say that there is no constant standard of good quality and service. Not wishing to return for a while.

Visited this place last night after a number of recommendations. The food was good but the highlight was the Fawlty Towers type interaction between the waitstaff and the manager, it was great to watch and listen. It was like being in a 70s sitcom. We ended up popping into Tanoshii on the fly for dinner last Friday having been thrown off the train in Winchester following weather disruptions. The staff were delightful and attentive, and the food was superb. We're both vegetarian, so chose a curry dish and crispy tofu-based dish. We also had drinks and desserts. All very delicious, with lovely fresh flavours and a really good choice of options. The extra little features such as dry ice, and the ambience were also great, and we'll definitely go back.
