Tandoor in Croydon

My dad has been coming here for years… the owner is the same man with now two younger boys. The food here is still good, we always go for the chicken tikka roll at a small cost of £3.99 which is very good. The roti naan bread is lovely and soft/crispy. There has been times that the chicken has been that great but today I experienced a really fresh and soft chicken tikka roll which was flavoursome and hot. Definitely recommend with coming here if you haven’t or a local who wants to try some nice Indian food at a small cost! Came here 14.10.2024 - I had the same usual chicken tikka roll which was awful! The chicken was pinkish and also smelt.. i did eat around 40% of this before I decided not to eat it anymore, the price is also £4.49 but was charged £5.49 when I asked why this was I was ignored and never got an explanation. After coming home I’ve had the worst stomach trouble all night to early morning, I’ve clearly caught something from having this! The shop is slowly soaring downhill the service isn’t great and the food is now becoming uneatable, and clearly not hygienic.. Unfortunately after this episode I won’t be coming back even with my previous visits

Bought falooda from this shop and it had curry smell coming from it. Total waste of money. Very poor quality.

I went here with my friend for breakfast. We had halwa puri! It was the best halwa puri, what I had in my life! I loved the flavours and the chai. It was amazing!

Food was cold! How can a place where food is meant to be fresh, sell a dry tasting chicken leg and biryani rice? The staff barely knows how to communicate in English. At least the price is acceptable for the food quality, and the design aspect of the space is visually appealing, but besides that, an awful customer experience. Don’t recommend.

Not a good experience the food was bad it didn't taste like it was cooked today we came to eat the buffet but the food wasn't good.

Tandoor is back with a bang under new ownership. Reasonably priced. My favourites, chicken saag, Dal makhani, biryani, kebabs and freshly made rotis. No blingy chandeliers, no gold leaf decor just good honest wholesome food. Eat in or take away.

I visited on 20.01.2024. I love the new refurbishment. The shop is clean, and the staff look presentable. Customer service can be a bit hit and miss sometimes. The food is always fresh and tasty. The portions are a good size and good value for money. But on a whole, it's worth a visit.

Venue: Tandoor, Norbury Date of Visit: 28/12/2023 Our visit to Tandoor was a last minute and unplanned one. We had a small, late night meal Order: - Poppadoms - Channa Daal - Seekh Kebabs - Roti - Drinks We were served within ten minutes as it was quite late and not busy. The food was good but the poppadoms didn't seem as fresh as they should be. Regrettably, they don't have masala fish as an option. Service and atmosphere was pleasant and the person who served us was nice. Total payment was £24-£25 which seems less than elsewhere. Overall, Tandoor is a pleasant restaurant but could be better 4 Stars

Food is very good, we often go with friends , loved the new interior renovation .. the prices is so cheap compare to other restaurants around, my favourite chole, curry pakoree and lamb biryani must recommend this 👍

Nice and calm place with efficient service

So where do I start!!! OMG the food the ambience and the bang!! 😘😘🥰. The customer service is second to none and and the mouthwatering specials each day are next level. All easy on the pocket! Great prices. Why pay more for bland food at overpriced and over decorated venues. Probably the best food in London. East and west, Tandoor is the best!

Good portion sizes and friendly staff, although I’ll have to give it a four-star instead of five due to the hidden “eat-in” charge they didn’t mention at the start that I received at the end. I thought the price was too good to be true, and turns out it was. I’d still recommend it, though.

Been to this place quite a few times when visiting family in norbury. Always a favourite. Incredibly cheap and such good food. Portions are great too, at the moment they're doing lamb Biryani for £4.99, and chicken biryani for £3.50, I don't think you'll beat that anywhere else to be honest. If youre in norbury and want a good Indian meal, try this place out

If you like great Indian/Pakistani food then this is your go to place! These are the flavours I crave in London. Since my arrival to this country to college in Birmingham and my introduction and consequent addiction of Kashmiri, Pakistani and north Indian flavours.... moving to London and trying to enjoy the familiarity of flavour I had become addicted to was on the majority.... Disappointing! It just did not have that umph I was looking for.... Living in Brixton didn't help with a serious lack of local choice. But Moving to Norbury I could not help notice all the taxi drivers and Asian housewives that used this restaurant for fresh nans and home cooked dishes.... I judge most of my Indian food restaurants by their production of the following....basic Chicken Curry, Meat Curry, Chicken Tikka, Sharma Kebbab, Onion Baji, Bindi, saag aloo, fresh chipati and finally the peshwari naan. Tandoor scored higher than all my previous London encounters. Eureka! They've had me now for the last 12 years. Fairly priced, good portions, honest good flavours, no following day regrets. :) All the flavours of the Brummie curry house down here in South London. Your welcome... Xx

Staff can be a little rude sometimes, but it could be the language barrier.

Best lamb biryani in the whole world! Just bear in mind to eat it dine or take away after 2pm because you get it fresh. Prices are reasonable cheap, across the road you get a less tasty biryani for 1/3 more expensive.

Let me tell you, I love this place. The staff is very friendly and always smiling, food is seasoned well. Usually I show up late after my work to get whatever they still have: some veg samosas, onion bhaji or those long kebabs grilled on skewers (the chicken ones without dough covers are nicely spicy). I've never got sick or anything. Prices are very low. Divine flavours. I love them and I'll die on this hill.

I've just ordered food with these jokers online. The food was appalling: pakoras felt like they'd been fried ages ago, and paneer was off too. Very very bad experience, and very serious issues! Made a complaint - will get my money back. I hope that I make it through the night.

Just imagine you been charged for tab water. They know very well and I was their regular customer. Liked some of their food bcoz in Norbury this was the only best in worst food. Customer service really really bad. Thanks god there’s Dawat now

Food is always fresh and great value, whenever I place an order instructions are always followed. When I order a Chicken Tikka Biriyani, it was hot fresh and flavourful.

If you're looking for good food and are not fussed with shiny decor then this is the place for you! I don't understand the bad reviews. The food is lovely and the staff are friendly. Want more spice knowing you like it hot, ask. Don't comment on it afterwards. They are friendly enough to strike a conversation to know what you like.

Everything was tasted of nothing but chilli, inedible. Even my teenager who never finds anything spicy couldn't eat it.

I have stomach issues, and this is the only Indian food that doesn't make me sick! The staff are a friendly bunch, and its always busy, so get in there early, I highly recommend the biryani and the bombay also, with the freshly made naan! ❤

We were unimpressed even before the food got to our door due to the long time it took and we continued to be disappointed until the last mouthful. The pakoras and bhajis arrived in an oil-soaked and disintegrated paper bag; unfortunately the oil was a common theme throughout the whole meal and we had to drain the excess oil into a container so we could begin eating(see attached picture). It did not get any better as we started to eat: the food was cold and we had to reheat it ourselves. When it was finally ready to eat, we immediately recoiled with the taste of far too much salt. It’s rare that we don’t enjoy takeaway but this was a sore disappointment. Watery sauces lacking any kind of substance, no hint of an onion in the whole meal, broken lids on the containers which made them hard to open… It’s impossible to find anything to redeem it. Although it looked cheaper than our regular takeaway, it’s true that you get what you pay for. Order at your own risk; it’s truly awful.

I just don't understand some of the reviews on here. Best Indian meal I've had in ages. Not too greasy. Excellently spiced. 100% would order from here again.

Really bad customer service yeah went to get a curry basically I found a piece of glass inside me and my friends we ate and one of my friend is in the hospital because of this reason really disappointed I won’t even give 1 star to them be aware everyone i’ll be contacting the food authority tomorrow.

Just plain terrible! Do not waster your time! I have been here a few times now and the only items I enjoyed were the Pepsi and the still water. The good reviews are no way genuine reviews.

The quality of the food does not reflect the price paid,the food was ok-ish nothing special. To top things up,I asked for 2 sweet nan bread and the top nan was a plan nan but honey spread on top and the second nothing,which I only realised at home as we only ate 1,the place smells of grease....i would not visit again.

Worst food ever. It was as very hilarious experience with them . I order for the 1st time n it was not good in taste. I told them to make it spicy but they didn’t do that as well . Sorry to say please increase the quality of food and tast 🙏🏻

Trying to call to place an order no answer

I wanted to get some desserts, so got some Gulab Jamun and Gajar Halwa (Carrot Pudding). However, it was not that great to what I was expecting. Gulab Jamun: Uneven in shape, small in size and plus it was very crumbly. The syrup was like water. It looked that it has not been cooked properly. I have had those like thousands of times from different shops and this one comes at the end of the list. Gajar Halwa: Taste and texture was good however to much cardamom. If you want to put please do not open it as it over powers the taste of an actual dessert.

Shocking taste. Literally 0 flavour and nothing like any curry I’ve ever had. It’s cheap, but it’s not worth it. May as well make some beans on toast, even cheaper and would taste better.

Prices are less which attracts customers but service, cleanliness and food quality are miserable too. Low numbers on food hygiene. Don’t believe it, visit the shop and you will realise it.

Real Pakistani taste. I am sure no one making Channa dish like. Tandoor Norbury. Starter are nice and must ask Nawaz to make paya Channa for you on weekend.Tasty dishes with good prices.

My favourite restaurant in norbury. I been tandoor for sooo many times. Tried all food items. Everything is very tasty specially lamb chops biryani chanay chicken jalfrezi. Ma Shaa Allah taste is so yummy.

Very bad food and cant cook properly

If I could give a zero rating I would. This is the third time that they have missed items from our order. Even if the food was appetising (which it wasn't) it holds no value if the items ordered don't arrive. Poor management and under trained staff make this restaurant a NO GO. Take the drive up to Tooting and get yourself a good traditional Indian Takeaway.

The lady was not friendly....intimidating attitude....she heat my food only at the surface...very hot...inside cold....could not really eat it...when I needed...had to reach home to heath it...

Ordered from Deliveroo. Deliveroo did their bit. I ordered a chicken tikka biryani, it tasted so bland. No flavour what so ever. Could’ve made this at home with no seasonings. Usually a biryani comes with a vegetable curry or a sauce. It came with neither. Just basmati rice with a few pieces of chicken on top. Disappointed.

Absolutely delicious. And ordered through deliveroo was here in minutes. Not sure why they have such low reviews on here and deliveroo. They especially made the jalfrezi paneer for me as I’m veggie. Potatoes in the Bombay aloo were so unusually fluffy. Was stunning. Perhaps a little more oily than I would normally have at lunch but absolutely jam packed with flavour. Probably the best example of this dish I’ve had in this area (note yoghurt was my addition) recommended 100%

Fair portion size, decent price. The lamb korma was pretty tasty, the meat relatively soft. Overall good value for money.

Food is generally very nice and tasty. However recently ordered through uber eats and there was missing items from the order. I called the resturant up and they blamed the delivery guy saying he probably had taken the item. Very very unhelpful staff. The person was shouting over the phone and instructed me to call the driver. I was unable to do so. So called the resturant again and another staff member picked up telling me she cant do anything and has to wait for the manager. Disgusting service.

We get biriani from here, and always tasty. Their shami and shish kebab are also good. Have not tried their curries yet.

There is ONE woman who works there who always OVERCHARGES us. And on a FEW occasions has short changed us. She's A THIEF!! AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COST!!!

There was hair in the sauce brought out They charge 50p for salad the plates are tea saucers? The tikka is placed in the smallest dish ever its not a main meal for feeding your husband starter size. The parata was burned and the chops werent to thr taste as to suppose eating from MEKAN Xpress Grill Lahor kanooor or Istanbul. I wouldnt go back there

We ordered mixed vevetabld lamb bhoona. We received bones instead of lamb. Both the dishes were too oily. Gravey was less and oil was floating. Disappointing.

Best place for readymade food....

I'm giving three stars because the gentleman who served me was very nice. He was patient, very approachable and welcoming. The food on the other hand was not worth time or my expense. When I asked the passing chef to not add so much oil to the food which I ordered, I was given the look of death and he muttered something in his language which I could not understand. I could not eat that part of the meal which was to be my evening me as his reaction sent images of him "adding something extra" to the dish everytime I looked at my plate. The somsas were ok but an absence of textural difference between the meat and the veg options i had bought, basically tasted the same and were very greasy. I took home a piece of chicken also as under £10 on card payments are charged. ....the chicken should have been thrown out that day or the day before....it had a slimy feel to it and was undercooked. On conclusion.....the host would be the only reason I would go back and that would be to hire him for my own restaurant. I have found better Asian food in Sainsbury.

Really bad experience. The staff dont understand English but they are very polite. Ordered a King Prawn Karahi. 10 minutes later I receive a dish with shrimps in karahi sauce. Lots of sauce, very few shrimps. I took my food over to the man in charge and he starts talking to the chef who explains they have ran out of prawns. If that was the case why didnt they advise me instead of ignoring the issue and hoping i wouldn't notice or care. The lack of communication was appalling. The owner kept one eye on the tv and the other on me to half heartedly apologise...

I'm a regular to this place, the food is good but the staff there is unbelievable! I live 0.2 miles from the restaurant so usually I eat in, but today I'm not feeling very well so thought to call for delivery, knowing that this is not the first time I order delivery from this place. I call, a guy answers and ask me to wait a minute, then he hangs out. I said maybe he didn't mean it. I call again, he takes my order which is mix veg, spicy chicken curry and naan bread. With a rude manner, he says than I didn't reach the minimum for delivery orders knowing that I always order the same thing. I asked for his manager but he refused to pass him to me. And at the end when I ask for his name he hangs out while I'm still speaking. I used to be a regular here, and I used to recommend this place. But unfortunately I'm not going back or either recommend this place for anyone who likes a good service!

There's usually a good vegetarian selection here, authentic food great for a takeaway.

I like them as a takeout. Very trustworthy and the food is always to a good standard.
