I don’t know what has happened to this place but the food has gone massively downhill. The chicken was dry and hard, rice & peas terrible.

I think they used washing powder in the fried dumpling mix because they were awful. Food is mediocre at best. Please don’t waste your money buying food from here. You can cook it better yourself at home.

Disgusting service disgusting food DONT ORDER FROM HERE ! I’m on hold for 45 minutes as I’m writing this review. They’re the worse Caribbean restaurant ever !!! Imagine I ordered food and waited for agesss ! The woman who’s finally just answered was rude as hell ! They’re absolutely unprofessional and their food is rubbish ! NO ONE ORDER FROM HERE ! All the workers need to be sacked !

If I had the option to leave zero stars I would. Despite hearing bad reviews, I still thought I’d give Dutchie TH a try. Disappointed is an understatement. First of all upon arrival, there was no acknowledgment what so ever, was just left at the counter. When I did press the bell I was rudely told “the food is obviously not ready yet duhhh” bear in mind I hadn’t even ordered yet. I had ordered for collection 30mins before, and wanted to let them know I was there. When the girl finally came out, she was unaware of my order and had not even started preparing the food. This ment I was left waiting a further 20mins for the food. The whole time the girl and boy were laughing and mocking customers that came in the shop. After the terrible customer service and stink attitude from the staff, I thought at least the food would bang, but I was highly disappointed. I ordered large oxtail and was only given 4 pieces of oxtail. Will definitely not be returning there, management should look into getting new staff.

This shop is a fraud the most disgusting Jerk I have ever had this is not an authentic Jamaican shop this is fraud stop using authentic jamaican cuisine to sell your nasty food the jerk chicken and pork was more like stew it was not cooked on fire and tasted raw the festie balls was hard like rocks and the mac n cheese was dry and nasty

Totally disappointed! We ordered jerk pork which they claim to be “off the drum “ it was swimming in oil and tasteless! When we called to complain, the young lady said that’s how it comes! 🤷🏾‍♀️ This is really sad as I have eaten from the other branches of the dutchie and the food was good. This on the other hand was inedible! The goat we ordered was watery and consisted of 4 small peices of meat!! Yu cyaan do dat! £36 down the drain!

Terrible customer service. I know people people will not have time to review so I’m doing while in the shop right now. Employees just laughing in the kitchen loudly which makes people who walk in leave immediately. They take their time and I mean luxury time to deliver just a box of food not even speaking of two. Lots more to say but just do better! Food is nice tho!

Literally my opinion is if you can't cook don't open a shop. Fish was yellow, oily and tasteless had to throw all of it away. Oxtail dish literally had 5 small pieces of bones swimming in a pool of gravy with a few beans as company. Could smell the coconut milk going bad in the riceand got a very thin tasteless yellow liquid to go with fish.Wish I could give less than one star. NEVER AGAIN!!!! so now I still have to go cook .pic shows all the meat.

My daughter ordered a take away for me of oxtail rice and peas ,just this evening...no meat on the bones plus 3 bones in by themselves and some fat in the sauce jut for measure . I tipped the sauce out so you can see what your are given. ..plus 4 butter beans....terrible. Can't even call to tell them as they don't answer.

I actually gagged on first bite. I ordered the curry chicken and on first mouth full I nearly puked. Chicken was covered in slimey skin. There was absolutely no flavour what’s so ever not even a hint of scotch bonnet for heat. It was just slimey chicken swimming in what seemed to be a pool of oily water and 1 piece of potato I’m guessing for garnish. Extremely over priced food with absolutely no soul nothing authentic about it. I’m actually getting more angry as I type because I can’t believe they have the audacity to dish up and serve out this Not fit for human consumption food.

My sis I went for a little impromptu lunch and were so glad that we did. Every morsel of food was a taste fest and I'm excited to hit it again. Whether you're looking for takeaway or eat in you won't regret it.

Only one menu barely legible menu. Order machine did not work. Attempted to order food to go. The same person was in the kitchen and on the counter. Absolutely terrible. If I could’ve rated 0, I would’ve. The chef can’t be Caribbean. Plantain was dry and hard, they clearly baked it instead of frying it….So many bones in the food and way too much salt used. I couldn’t even finish it was so bad.

Dutchy Express (TH) 1540 ish, Sun 10 Dec is by far the best West Indian takeaway meal we've had, & we're not 'spring chickens'! We bought, Curry goat, roti, plantin, Chick pea curry & more OMD... cooked to perfection, tasty, great value, generous portions. They were extremely busy but gave updates on the progress of our order. We are so looking forward to visiting the area again; better yet, open a branch in West London please, that would be fabulous!

Our food was very small portion all of it. I had to boil rice to add on. The jerky chicken was not tasting like it. It was very hard and tasted like it was deep fried and then was put in brown source. The worst bit was they charged me service charge of 2.75 without me knowing. I was going through my online statement and I see uber eats 30.99 yet the food was 27. 99. That was my 1st time to order from there and definitely the last. Thieves

My friend took me here last week friday an the food was lovely! We got the lunchtime special. I went there today an ordered 3 lunchtime specials ( I opted for the stew chicken. Firstly the festivals tasted like oil no flavour, no cornmeal,no nutmeg nor sugar in there. The stew chicken had no flavour just full of pepper an plenty thyme. Stick to one chef preferably the one who cooked the food last week friday.I will not be returning. Do not waste your money people

Please do not waste your money. I did a delivery order of stew peas and rice with Mac and cheese and a drink. I cannot fault the delivery it was bang on time. Firstly I didn’t get my drink and called them and no answer, anyway I then took out some of the food and all I could taste was pepper and thyme it was absolutely disgusting. The 2 small pieces of pumpkin were undercooked and the piece of yam was also undercooked and I’m trying to understand since when does stew peas have frozen mix vegetables?, the Mac n Cheese was just large pasta shells with cheese dumped on it. I won’t waste my money with this place again and definitely don’t and won’t recommend it. However I have a piece of advice either get a new chef or stop selling Caribbean food you can’t cook.

Have tried a few places in the local area and this was by far the most enjoyable meal I’ve eaten. Chicken was succulent and seasoned just right with a good skin crisp. The veg and plantain was impeccable plus dumpling that I wasn’t expecting but appreciate very much, as this finished off the dish wonderfully. Thank you TDE

EDIT- Updated Review. I would no longer give this place 4 stars. It’s coming up to a year that I haven’t ordered from here. Think that chef came and went because the food went noticeably downhill. They also introduced a new, more expensive menu for what I felt were smaller portions. The last 5/6 orders I received were dry and tasteless. Nothing like when the boxes used to come garnished with spring onions and pepper, the roti wrapped separately and freshly cooked. The plantain was always hit or miss but ended up being rock hard each time I ordered. My husband complained and was told “do you think we grow the plantain here?” Anyway yeah a bit of a shame as used to be my favourite spot. Previous review- My favourite Caribbean food place in the area. Think they may have a new chef as the food quality has quite noticeably improved. Only annoying thing is Deliveroo app states that you can skip the queue to quickly collect food before it gets cold but not always the case here, made to wait behind indecisive customers to collect order already paid for.

The food now is god awful - do not go there. It is really sad as the quality for years has been amazing. Waited for 40 mins, gave my food away to a driver today - the actual food itself - a big lump of rice and tasting terrible. Festivals were hard, plantain was old. Told me I couldn't order medium and I had to order large.

I’m actually done with this place I’m not local to the area but I drive well out of my way to come here . tonight I ordered boneless jerk rice n pees . The rice was cooked properly From last week as it was dry n hard n clumping together the chicken was so over cooked and reheated in microwave it was completely rock solid The owner should be embarrassed calling this a Caribbean shop or is just greedy and dnt care about he’s local people he’s over Charing for terrible food . the shop it self is very unwelcoming and full or angry just eat driver’s it’s not a nice place to be or wAit . The owner needs to have a good look at he’s staff management and business or this will fail 100%

Ordered buy one get one free, mind you I ordered a lot of portions like 3/4 and obviously expected double. received one portion of each(completely defrauded) and when I spoke to them on the phone I got the feeling it was done on purpose. They immediately blamed all the customers and admitted they’ve had this happen multiple times(without me even asking) but it’s the customers fault because they don’t know how to order properly through the app. Appalling is an understatement.

About a year ago, I order the curry goat from their other franchise and was instead given curry bones. I thought I would give these guys another chance but again I received curry bones. They were at least consistent in something, providing poor quality food each and every time.

Food was tasty but jerk chicken on bone and bonless was pink ,so wouldn't eat, phoned up and spoke to a joker,got the vibe had your money so what. Try blue jays 100% good food. I never ordered a young girl did. Not for me what a shame attitude is next to pinkness.

Chicken is over tuff, like last week tuff. My Dad and I have been coming here off and on for a few years but this is the last time. The food is just so inconsistent and has reached a new low today. We won't be back!!!!!

In store, bought & paid for the boneless mutton curry to takeaway. It was an hour or two before closing. We was told the takeaway would be ready in 45 mins so we popped up the road until it was ready. Upon our return we collected the takeaway and headed back out to our destination. As we were preparing to eat to our disappointment & disbelief the boneless mutton dish was full of bones at the cost of £17.50. I had recommended this dish to my friend so it was very uncomfortable to see that the dish was nothing like what the dutchie's promised it'd be (boneless). I though maybe it had been a mistake so we drove back to the restaurant to get a replacement, this is where it took a turn for the worse. When we knocked on the door the server hid and pretended not to see us or hear us knocking the door. We had to keep knocking until a manager came out and opened the door. We explained what had happened & he let us in to get the order corrected. However the chef was very unprofessional & got rather nasty towards us. The replacement order was full of curry liquid with a few pieces of curry mutton swimming in the container. It took 5 minutes to get a replacement so it wasn't fresh food. Upon leaving the establishment the chef & management shouted such rude & undignified comments towards me & my friend (who's first time it was in this restaurant) as we made our way out of the establishment. We left feeling humiliated, hurt & traumatised. It was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant & we couldn't bring ourselves to eat the food because we just didn't trust the dutchie staff anymore. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Either the chef or the owner for this restaurant has clearly changed. Prior to Covid the food was tasty and flavourful but that is certainly not the case anymore. I purchased some food yesterday and it was disgusting! The crispy squid was £8.50 for approximately 5 little pieces…it was so hard and rubbery that it couldn’t be chewed. The stew chicken and the curried goat with rice n peas were tasteless and disgusting 🤮. I would never spend a penny here again. This is so sad because before the restaurant expanded from the arcade in croydon to thornton Heath the food was authentic and tasty. Now I can see they are now in Camberwell. Word of advise for the owners…. Your business have now gone to the dogs! You will lose market share and will eventually all close down if this is not addressed. Don’t be too greedy and end up losing it all. Now I wouldn’t even feed this to my dogs! If I could I would give it 1 star. I will phone the Croydon restaurant to also complain.

Liked it the 1st time, I think its the Chinese style packaging that got me. But since then I've noticed their food is soggy every single time. That's what's happens to Caribbean shops that get popular the food deteriorates. Service is mainly unprofessional as if they are doing you a favour. That's my opinion anyways.

Purchased a Bax meal today. Price has recently be raised which I was not too happy about HOWEVER the meal I had tasted fantastic, filled me up and was worth every penny. I highly recommend Dutchie for that good authentic Jamaican food 🇯🇲

On 06-Aug-2022 I ordered a couple of meals today from Thornton Heath as I was feeling under the weather to cook. My meal was oxtail with rice and peas and coleslaw. Point 1, the oxtail and rice & peas were stale. The coleslaw was warm like it was left out of the fridge. The plantain was raw and undercooked. The second meal was chickpea curry with rice and peas. Point 2, the chickpea was hard and the onions raw. It was full of curry powder that was not cooked down and there were many chickpeas and potatoes in the container that you could count them. We left it on the side for 10 minutes. she went to go and eat; I took the lid off it was turning you could smell the coconut cream turning in the food. I am not one to complain, but wrong is wrong, and right is right. If I could give them no stars, that is what I would have given you. Imagine I have spent all that money, and I have had to throw it all away. We have just wasted £32:86 on the food, we cannot eat. Awful food don't waste your time. I will not be visiting or buying anything from them again.

Delicious food. We ate ackee n saltfish and curry goat with rice n peas. We also ate the fish platter. Really lovely, well presented and it arrived on time. We have enough food left for tomorrow aswell. I do recommend this company. Well done Dutchie Express, we'll definitely order from you again.

Ordered on Uber eats , oxtail rice peas, festival and plantain.. Rice was hard Oxtail was salty and sauce was not great Festivals were good Plantain ended up coming free with the meal which should be stated on the main dish description rather than me ordering an extra large portion Tropical fruit punch £23 for just that on Uber eats, don’t think it’s value for money and food Standard out of 10 is like 4… Hope the restaurant owners actually do something about this as I feel that dutchies in camberwell has better quality food.

I called the shop 9 times and got no answer! When we physically went there we were told we can’t order over the counter and have to do it via Deliveroo??? What if customers don’t have Deliveroo? And if they are turning into a Deliveroo kitchen they should think about closing the shop. Not sure what’s changed with them but it’s disappointing

Curry goat was purely curry powder and no other balance. Oxtail was just bone no meat found about 6 or 7 pieces with no bone. Considering its £9.99 a kg in your local meat shop and would be better to make at home, cheaper too. Roti was very tough and floury, not flaky and light, so much room for improvement. Jerk chicken was the only thing that didn't need changing, please up your standards and taste what your sending out to customers

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - delivery time kept going up and up and up, reaching over an hour after original estimated time… no answer at the restaurant after ringing multiple times! The new ordering system makes no sense. A cash paying customer is overlooked compared these food companies uber eats and just eat. Too much of headache to deal with. Customer service is lacking. Would rather look at a screen than a human to take an order obviously. Would rather spend my money elsewhere.

Oxtail is swimming in oil no gravy in sight, the rice and peas is clearly from yesterday and coleslaw has been left un refrigerated as the mayo in it is going clear. Simply BEST Jerk Chicken U will eat

Just ordered via Uber Eats and vomited it out because the food was obviously not fresh. I have regularly ordered from you before and the food was delicious, why did you send me cold food and food that was clearly not fresh! So disappointed.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but on this occasion, the food was so bad that I couldn't just let it go. If I could give no stars then that is what the Dutchie Express would get. We ordered as a treat for my partner's birthday on Uber Eats, spending over £50, after waiting an hour and 10 mins for our food we didn't receive one jerk pork that we had ordered, the other "jerk pork" that was delivered turned out to be chicken, which was freezing cold. We ordered 3 lots of plaintain which was cold and hard, most of it got thrown away. To top it off we ordered the boneless curry goat for £16.95 and got a tub of oil, no joke, there was one piece of meat in the whole tub! If I was the chef here I would be embarassed... I should have just cooked for my partner instead, I'm no chef but I could make a better curry in my sleep. Will never order from here again, and if you are considering ordering from here then I would take a look at my pictures so you can see exactly what you will be getting and think again! Disappointed is an understatement

The food is schweeeeeet !! But I dunno about the service sometimes. I'd recommend over other carribbean places but I prefer the camberwell branch.

This is the 3rd time i have ordered from here and i have been left disappointed each time. I have even ordered from 2 different apps, Uber Eats and Deliveroo and each time I have had to dispute my orders for the same reason. This will now have to go in the bin because it is not edible ANY HUMAN CONSUMPTION. My food was burnt, the festival's are burnt and soaked in oil. The Mac n Cheese is not even cooked properly. its literally macaroni pasta with cheese sprinkled on top. The quality fo the food here is nothing like the original. I understand its called express but I did not know that means cutting corners. The Quality control is trash. I cannot believe someone looked at this and thought this is okay to send out to a someone? Would you eat this? Do you need new chefs because I'll happily show you how to properly make mac and cheese and fry festivals. This is not it. If you cannot make mac and cheese perhaps you need to remove it from your menu until your recipe is revised. I would like a response from someone because I need to know whether or not you think this is acceptable.

I’ve just tasted the prawn curry which is not prawns but shrimps & it is one of the most tasteless thing I’ve ever eaten the plantain is force ripe. Next time I feel for a decent Caribbean I’ll cook my own because I may as well have had bread & water because it would have had more flavour ( not happy ) waste of my money

Food and service is always good here. If they are behind or running slower they always let you know and apologise, staff are always so friendly, the dutchie in Croydon could do with taking note of how the staff are in Thornton Heath, as their service is no where near as good.

First time getting a take away yesterday after great reviews from family. The food was really tasty and lived up to the hype but the service was awful, the woman lied by saying it will take 20 minutes and took 45 minutes. The woman needs training in customer service as she looked pained to serve me and looked bemused when I enquired about my food. I'll leave it there but like I said the food was delicious.

Ordered takeaway from here - the portions were a decent size and the fried chicken was nice and crispy. However, I wasn’t a fan of the bbq gravy and the coleslaw was ridiculously dry - this could possibly be because of the delivery but there simply was no moisture.

This was my first order from The Dutchy, whilst on a lunch break. To say I was pleased is an understatement. The staff are friendly which is a breath of fresh air. I ordered the fried squid and the festiballs and they were delicious!!! My only criticism is the outside of the shop needs updating as you can easily pass it by. It's a gem and it will be my first of many orders. Definitely will recommend 👌

You keep people waiting over an hour.. when they call up to find out... you rush them off the phone instead of apologising... and btw when most restaurants are running late they will throw in a little extra for the long wait... you guys give attitude and luke warm food. Just ordered Negril platter for my Mum through Ubereats - I report back a highly satisfied customer - Mum loved the food, and she is highly discerning and a very good cook to boot!

I ordered the food at 5.30, The food tasted delicious, however the peas were under cooked they were rock hard and by the time it was delivered(7pm) it was cold. I recommend everything except the rice and peas.

The fried chicken was normal and so were the sweet potato fries. I would have been better off ordering KFC. I now have food poisoning!!! My daughter and i went in to eat in, despite the bad reviews. Well we waited for 45 mins, not even the drinks came! When i went up to the counter to let him know we still waiting, i was horrified at the state of the kitchen floor. Their was numerous about of dirty blue tissues and bits of food all over the floor. I then just asked for a refund. Which i got without any argument thank god. 1 star is too much!!!

I ordered from the restaurant through Uber eats. I got oxtail with rice and peas which came with some plantain and for the side I got calamari which came with sweet chilli sauce. It was so delicious I proper enjoyed it. The portion size of the oxtail was quite a lot compared to the rice portion. Could have done with a bigger portion of rice. The plantain was cooked well and tasted really good. Delivery time was super quick. Overall 10/10 absolutely recommend.

The food was delicious! Very tasty and well presented and prepared that was my first experience and will certainly look for another branch near me as I was visiting with a relative quite a distance from me.
