The "Kala mutton" is the best curry I've ever tasted. It is truly amazing. I recommend everyone who eats meat to order it. Very friendly staff and lovely environment.

Lovely place, food is great but expensive for the potion sizes + plus having to buy rice separately. Goy a bit confusing with 7 people and a rice was missed out

This was proper authentic Indian cuisine! Not like a typical curry house. Such a relaxed, casual and premium vibe to the place. The owner was a friendly, attentive and passionate guy. Delighted we chose this place after passing through Totnes and looking for good Asian food. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Really great place. Servers were fantastic and very patient with our energetic 1 year old. Food was great and personally i really like the minimalist menu when it means that everything on there is a certified banger. Highly recommend.

Fantastic food. Loved all of it…aubergine starter, prawn biryani and carrot halva dessert. Never had a carrot dessert before. It was all delicious!

Lovely little restaurant in Totnes. I suppose you would call it Indian fusion.  I had the "fish and chips" which might sound unadventurous, but it was amazing, with an Indian twist. My wife had aubergine baigan bharta which was also lovely!

An excellent Indian lunch, samosas chaat , potato dosa, great spices and generous portions. The lime pickle is amazing. And wine list very good. Lovely buzzy room.

Had an amazing meal here. It was fish and chips but the fish was cooked using some kind of spice in the batter which made it delicious. Then I had the cheesecake for dessert which was lovely. Nice ambience. Would definitely return. Dog friendly.

Brilliant Indian restaurant with loads of positive surprises: top-notch mango lassi on the menu, there is a garden/outside seating, the initial room extends far beyond into a nicely tucked away extra space with the kitchen in the middle of the two rooms, the food is absolutely delicious and there is great background music. They also have a wine menu. Wonderful staff, they have high chairs, and so much more! If I were to live in the area, this would become my second living room. Well done everyone at Tamarind Tree.

Fresh, delicious, authentic curry as it should be. A small simple menu allows for focusing on what matters - flavour. We ordered a mutton and chicken curries, which each tasted wonderful. They were fresh and distinctly different from each other which is a far cry from the greasy, bland mess that is normally served at most 'curry houses'. Tamarind Tree is setting the trend for what we should expect in a curry. Highly recommended.

Had a fabulous lunch here, torn between 3 dishes…. The fish, aubergines and samosa chat I opted for the latter so I could tick eating a chat off my list and hubby had the fish so I got to try that too! Both meals were delicious, the service was just great, we got a friendly welcome and they were attentive without being in your face, they also made me a “dirty” chai at my request! Hope to come back next time we visit Totnes, so I can try the aubergines!!

I have been here a few times now and you can’t go wrong, the menu changes often so it always feels new. There are plenty of vegan options too and the waitress was full of suggestions on how they can alter some dishes to cater for vegans.

Delicious food, something a little different. Staff were friendly, and very knowledgeable about the food they were serving. We really enjoyed the experience. Only wish we lived closer. Highly recommend.

What a brilliant meal we had here. They catered for our two 4yr old girls very well. Amazing food. Delicious and just different. We so happened to see a piece of paper near our table which was actually for the staff. It said something like “we aspire to be the best restaurant in Totnes” a great mission statement and it is a top quality place so well done!

Very good. Naga mutton curry and the naan bread were delicious although my partner was slightly disappointed with her veggie option

Absolutely exceptional. The layers of flavour are outstanding. We are occasional Totnes diners but will come more now after discovering this gem. We love Indian food and have sampled all over the world. This is undoubtedly among the very best. And a bonus to meet some of the family! Well done team Tamarind.

Good food, good vibes. Great selection of veggie dishes. Only thing is we ordered a ‘daal’ dish and were disappointed as it had no lentils in it-it was more of a spiced veggie tomato sauce with rice dumplings.

We've been here before. It used to be Willow & that was good. Tamarind Tree has grasped the mantel & held it high. Beautiful, authentic Indian food that's not too heavy for a lunch time.

lovely little restaurant in totnes, definitely worth a visit! the veggie/vegan options are good and the food is delicious. we went as a large group and there was a slight mess-up with some of our orders, but the staff were all lovely and very accommodating and helpful. really worth visiting!! fabulous little place :)

We really enjoyed our visit. The restaurant was particularly busy but staff were constantly going above and beyond for everyone. The flavour of the food was exceptional. We were really impressed. I didn't want to knock a star off, as I hope this is constructive, but some wines that are suitable for vegans would be great. We also were expecting a fresh naan for the price, rather than the packet clay oven ones. But I would still happily recommend this place to anybody, one of the best meals we had in the area.

Tonight we had one of the most fun, exciting & flavoursome dinners in a long time. One of the things I miss from Birmingham, it’s the Indian cuisine. Thankfully @87highstreet.tamarindtree it’s here to change that, the food was absolutely amazing. It’s an instant favourite & if you fancy some mouthwatering Indian dishes then you should definitely visit!🙌🏻🥳🔥

Such a fab place for our quick lunch on a busy Friday in Totnes. Great service and fab food. We shared the chicken skewers and the spicy toastie which was ideal for lunch.

With so many cafes to choose from in Totnes, we decided to give these guys a try. They are at the top of the main street in Totnes - well worth the visit. The staff were lovely and friendly. The coffee was good and good for light bites and smaller meals. If you're hungry or have a tribe of big eaters, you might want to reconsider going here. I had the samosa chat for one and was still hungry after finishing it. My wife had the fennel salad from the Light bites option, and that was probably for a supermodel. My wife is not a big eater, but not really enough for her. The food tasted great and I would go back, as long as I wasn't super hungry. There's a courtyard at the back for a bit more peace and quiet.

Life, death, rebirth - it is the natural order of things. From the ashes of beloved willow springeth life anew; the tamarind tree. Where once a squash and walnut gratin, now Chicken Makhani - creamy and moreish No spinach and feta frittata, but instead try daal with buttery naan or spring rolls dunked in bitter chutney. Change is good, and so is the food at this place, very much it’s own thing but with echoes of that familiar dishevelled charm. Also try boozy chai.
