Riverford Field Kitchen - Organic Restaurant in South Hams

We had an excellent meal with great service. Unfortunately, for me, the acoustics in the building ruined it. Such a shame. At first I thought I was going to have to leave, but once the food came it was somewhat quieter but still noisy.

I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. The setting is absolutely lovely, with a cosy yet elegant atmosphere that made the afternoon feel special. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, which really added to the welcoming vibe. The food was amazing—every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. Another standout was the thoughtful spacing between tables, providing plenty of privacy and comfort. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great food in a relaxed, inviting environment. I'm looking forward to coming back again ☺️

The food was amazing - so unique and fresh. All starters are vegetarian and then there are options for a vegetarian main as well. The portions are very generous and it is nice to have a choice of desserts.

Lovely food & staff. Visited for the set lunch. I use their website recipes every week so it was great to have something I love cooked for me. The staff were happy to answer any questions & very helpful.

There is only one menu to choose from every day. So be sure to read carefully beforehand what will be available. We also had pork belly, which looked terrible... The menu sequences are served at a very fast pace without a break. It almost became a drag.

We had a lovely time here. Booked for the Sunday set menu at 3:30pm and it was beautiful. From the settings to the food, I don't have anything bad to say! The staff were friendly and accommodating. Looking around the polytunnel was really cool too!

Amazing food shame about the uncomfortable chairs!

Riverford Field Kitchen is simply the best place I have ever eaten at. We arrived at 3.30pm Sunday for the 4pm sitting - everyone eats the same plates at roughly the same time. There isn’t a choice (except vegetarian instead of the meat dish) - this is far from a criticism, this is a brilliant idea. Various shared plates, for your table, arrive and you just tuck in to delicious veg based organic food, much from their own gardens. Service is excellent, very chilled yet attentive. Drinks are also great, many soft drinks are also made on the premises, eg a lovely strawberry and basil cordial. If you can go you really should book up as soon as possible!

Absolutely incredible. We went for the Saturday brunch and it's just yummy. A set menu so tried things I wouldn't normally and I'm so glad I did - fava beans on sourdough toast, delicious! Also breakfast pudding - heaven

Great food and atmosphere. The garden tour is always interesting and informative

All the courses of food that continuously arrive at your table are delicious. All fresh produce relevant to the season. The menu changes daily and you get what is on the menu for that day. It tends towards vegetarian dishes but there is a meat course (which can also be a veg one if requested). Could not fault the meal. It’s also lovely to walk around their poly tunnel to see everything being grown. Would definitely recommend.

4 of us had a fantastic time here at their "supper club", we sat outside with a view of their growing beds full of herbs and greenery. The service was great and clarified our gluten-free requirements to be sure, they had readily available alternatives on hand. The food and drink was delicious and the setting is beautiful.

This is an awesome place for dinner, one of a kind. Food is great, service great, location great. We sat outside, it was not that warm but still very nice and blankets provided.

This will suit some people and not others, you have a set menu and all restaurant is served together at same time, dishes are brought out to your tables and it's bit like a buffet style where you take some food from the dish then pass it on round your table. Nice food and you get to try things you would not normally choose but not enough food for my liking to be honest. Service was excellent as well when adjusting for dietary requirements it was no problem at all

I loved the location of this place and it was relaxed and informal. Unfortunately we got unlucky with our seat outside and I kept having to move to avoid the sun shining directly in my eyes. The food was ok but not amazing, I did feel that I could have easily replicated or bettered the dishes at home. The beef was amazing though.

Great concept, nice environment, however, the vegetables were all so similar and way too al dente (I know it's a fine line but they took a LOT of chewing), the big disappointment was the veggie main of potato and ricotta dumplings which were bland and tasteless in the extreme. Come on guys, you can do better.

It is important to book a meal at Riverford. The menu is based on the seasonal veg available. The menu is fixed and a set price. We were delighted with our meal and the quality of our meal was outstanding. Really looking forward to returning soon.

They offer amazingly tasty set menu from ingredients grown on the farm. The food was exquisitely good as well as the service. Book well in advance if you'd like to try it. It's very reasonably priced for a the course tasting menu with multiple starters.

My second visit to Riverford Field Kitchen, this place without doubt offers the very best food, in a stunning location and at an exceptional price point - it's quickly becoming my favourite place to eat in Devon. With friends visiting from London, I booked a table for 4pm and their second sitting for Sunday lunch and as requested, we duly arrived for 3.30pm and joined all the other diners ready to be served (all at once) at 4. The food is exquisite, all of it being Organic and from their own fields - food miles must be next nil - you're literally amongst the fields, it'#s an incredible location. All the plates are to be shared and we enjoyed some excellent Asparagus, Chickpeas and a Tomato/Melon salad prior to the main course of Rump Beef (or aubergine for Veggies). Everything is cooked to perfection, hats off to the chefs for producing incredibly simple dishes that are full of flavour - you're literally using fingers to wipe the plate - I was so close to licking my plate. The staff are excellent, the service attentive - this place is top-notch and well worth the drive. Just go.

We were visiting the area and google sugested this restaurant. On the google there is no sign that says it is a booking only restaurant.So we drove there. Once we entered there, there was no sign to say that too. So my 3 year old child sat on the chair and I was looking to see the toilet sign. Only then one of the staff attended and asked us to leave. My toddler left the restaurant in tears as clearly he does not understand the meaning of reservation no matter how hard I tried to explain it. It ruined our whole afternoon as I had to drive somewhere else while my child was in tears. Both me and my partner felt really ashamed infront of all the guests too. Worst experience of service that I have ever had. Having say that, it was around 1.30 and there were a lot of tables available. They could have simply offered a few choices especially when they saw we are with a toddler who has already sat at the table . I was happy to even order a chips for my child but not having to deal with a heartbroken and grumpy toddler the whole day. This place has been crossed out of out list.

I agree with the most salient point my predecessor Dominique Park has made on this. I was most unimpressed by the horrible quality of food such as the raw chicken. Furthermore, I was not impressed by the speed at which the nourishment was produced, it took hours compared to the mere 40 minutes other restaurants take to prepare food.

I came here last saturday in hopes of eating some nice food, however to my dismay, this was not the case. The food was revolting and all vegetarian based. In addition to this, the wait was insufferable, and when you take into consideration the £100+ bill, it does not check out at all. This is your warning NOT to come here. When you do not like it, you will come to an anagnorisis, realising your fatal mistake...

Sat outside on the terrace and was worried it would be cold but they provided blankets. The food is all fresh from the farm, organic and delicious! They also have an interesting selection of fun drinks. Just make sure to save room for the desserts...good luck making a choice as they all sounded amazing 🤩

My favourite restaurant! Absolutely incredible food every time and love how the menu changes. I am vegetarian and the main options are so tasty! The sticky toffee pudding is also amazing! I literally can’t stop thinking about it! Hope they bring back the cold sticky toffee pudding desert for the summer!

Delicious organic produce 😋 Everything about Riverford is on point and you can tell that all of the co-owners are 'pushing in the right direction'. The food at the field kitchen all comes directly from the farm, so it really couldn't be any fresher and is clearly prepared with love. If you're looking for celebrity chefery, this isn't for you. If you're looking for wholesome and good...come along to Riverford.

Utterly delicious food. Reminds you of how a humble vegetable can be something amazing....carrots and courgette lovingly cooked and so delicious. And the desserts were fab.

We finally made it to Riverford kitchen for a wonderful Sunday lunch 😋 And they didn't disappoint , food, service and atmosphere amazing . We were all very well catered for 1 vegan 3 eat everything! and 2 dogs 🐕 we all left very happy, full and looking forward to a return visit thanks so much .

Just a bit expensive and a bit noisy.

We booked this at the last moment and were not sure what to expect. From beginning to end, Riverford Field Kitchen could not have been better. It is such good value as well; you get a lot of food throughout the evening, and it is so hard to choose which of the dishes they bring out is your favourite. The flavours are creative, so fresh, and beautifully presented. I loved being able to see the chefs at work. Service was brilliant all evening, with great wines and home-made drinks to choose from. All finished off with an amazing pudding, and coffee at only an extra £2.50. Unbelievable value for such a wonderful dinner. Definitely go if you can.

I can't fault this at all. I have wanted to visit for a long time and when I finally did I was not disappointed. I love the idea of having a variety of dishes for the table and it meant the kids could try things without any pressure. Everything was well thought out and delicious, including the drinks selection.

Overall good food, starters were the highlight. But 2 points that made the experience underwhelming for me. 1) one plate per table no matter it's a table of 2, 3 or 5 people. 2) no proper veg alternative esp for a place that prides itself for seasonal veg and all. So if you are paying a set price and not getting enough starters and a not comparable alternative main, it pinches to pay nearly £50 for a meal.

We’re regular customers in London to Riverford products. Made this trip to Devon especially to check their farm and kitchen. Totally worth the trip. Great atmosphere, vibe and staff, highly recommend!

We went in January 2023 for a birthday and it was pretty dissapointing.. we love the long tables and communal eating part, but there really wasn't enough food for our party. The main issue though was the service - there was such a 'can't do' attitude it was quite surprising. We asked for some extra bread (as there wasn't much in the first place) and were just told no. Strange as we bought 16 people there to eat.. I asked for a bit more butter and there was this hesitation, like I'd asked for the moon on a stick. I mean Riverford make their own butter! Someone asked for a clean plate and it sent the waitress into a flat spin and she again refused. When someone brings a big party in and spends over a grand then you can at least bring them a clean plate if they ask. There was such a can't do attitude from the staff who seemed genuinely quite miserable. We went years ago and it was really good, but this is a company resting on its laurels, and after chatting to a few other mates who had been recently they all said the service was lousy and the staff miserable. Amazing puddings though!!!

We don't often eat out as it's often disappointing. However, our experience at the cafe was beyond exceptional. The food was incredibly tasty and of high quality. The environment was welcoming. The service was impeccable. This is the only place we'll ever make a second visit to.

Food not up to standard. Overpriced. Also these people discriminate against men. On their website they push this gender pay gap bull.

Lovely organic food in a minimalist farmhouse setting, mostly vegetable based dishes and tasty cakes.

Many visits and simply love the place, the food and the staff. ps But you lose one star for the appalling tasteless coffee. Complained each time we’ve come but sadly dosn’t change. So won’t order it again and will have a 5* visit!

Great experience. We've been here for breakfast and lunch and we've bought guests multiple times. I think the lunch is much better value for money as I walked away feeling stuffed. The breakfast is still really nice and it's all fresh wholesome food but I do walk away from breakfast a bit hungry. Overall though it's a great place to eat.

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic, the venue is light, airy and decorated with beautiful dried flowers everywhere. The food was delicious, the staff knowledgable about the food, friendly and the service impeccable. I am really looking forward to going back.

Amazing experience and my appreciation of vegetables has changed a million-fold thanks to this wonderful place. The different vegetable sides, along with the tasty pork belly were perfect. Chuck in great coffee and dessert, perfect setting and service and you have serious fine dining. One of the best food experiences I've had in the South west!

Very enjoyable, interesting menu.

This was our first time visiting the Riverford Field Kitchen and OMG amazing if you ever get the chance please go and check them out. The food was amazing the service was outstanding and the atmosphere was so nice we had a table of 6 and we could all talk comfortably with each other and not having to shout at the person at the other end of the table. As you can see from the pictures the food was so so good can't wait to go back for lunch maybe or dinner again or maybe both. Thank you to the staff from Riverford Field kitchen for an amazing evening.

Slightly noisy- I found conversation a little difficult- but that aside the food was great. No choice on the brunch which is vegetarian, obv, but very good!

Top quality organic food at its best

Truly incredible meal with wonderful wait staff. The room has a nice ambience, the high ceilings, wooden textures and dried flowers make it large but cosy. Highly recommended!

Love this place. Have visited many times over many years on our journeys from holiday in the West Country.

Difficult to find since it is lost in the web of single track roads. There is no choice in the menu. You either eat it or not. In addition there is only one sitting at 7pm so by 9.15pm the restaurant is empty. Food reminded me of the sort of thing we used to cook as students and of course it’s all seasonal food grown locally. The only flavours are the natural flavours of the base food. It’s all very sloshy and a bit like the Ryanair of restaurants. Having said all that there wasn’t a spare table in the restaurant on a Wednesday night so it’s obviously popular with the locals. Given the above price of £52 per head was a bit steep considering we only had one bottle of wine between 6 people.

Superb organic, locally sourced vegetarian and meat options - one choice of each. Selection of lovely desserts to follow.

Cancel a booking due to illness and they will charge you £10 per person, a total scam! These people are crooks.

We visited Riverford Field Kitchen for Sunday Lunch and it was beautiful. We sat outside and enjoyed being surrounded by nature. The food was absolutely delicious and I can't wait to visit again!. The vegetables are organically grown by Riverford and are the stars of the meal!. Service is tops too!. What a beautiful experience!!.
