Had one of the best dining experiences ever at this amazing restaurant! The atmosphere was incredibly warm and friendly with food that was among the best Indian cuisine I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. And to top it off the service was impeccable with the staff being warm, attentive and extremely engaging. Especially our waitress Irina who ensured our evening was absolute perfection!! I travel all over the world for work and can easily offer my highest possible recommendation. If you are in London and craving Indian cuisine look no further!

Like many other Indian restaurant trying to maintain a chic image at prime London location, this place is high on the dressage but do not offer outstanding food. Their service on the day we visited was very cordial. The servers brought steaming hot food at a very comfortable pace for us. Given the price of the dishes, they could do much better with the portions. A restaurant with high potential lacks attention to details.

Suggest you avoid if using tastecard. We went there before getting the card and it was fine, but when we went back using our tastecard they gave us very much smaller portions and charged us a 40% service charge! like another reviewer when we asked for a copy of the bill to inform tastecard they refused and were quite difficult, eventually they gave it to us but it was a most unpleasant experience.

A very hot evening last week but we wanted a good curry and chose this one from the Tripadvisor reviews and the fact that it gave 50% of all food.We identified ourselves as Tastecard holders when booking. Service was exemplary and the food was fresh, spiced and very tasty. So no problem with the quality however.... when we came to pay they had not discounted the food part of the bill by the 50% agreed and when I pointed this out they apologised and actually acknowledged that this was a Tastecard booking,so naughty! When they returned the bill, they had duly taken 50% off the food bill but....added a service charge which amounted 20% of the food bill! I pointed this out and they said that any Tastecard booking acquires a service charge of this level..! This is very sharp practice and unprofessional and means that actually Tastecard holders do not get the agreed 50% reduction but in this case, only 33%! Go here for great food and service but beware their attitude to not delivering the Tastecard contract.

I travel to Hammersmith regularly and have been hugely disappointed with the quality of the food in the restaurants along King Street. Tamarind Restaurant bucks the trend and provides wonderful food. The food is freshly prepared to order so expect a delay between order and serving. Fully worth the wait though. The fresh spices really bring out an authentic Indian aroma. Everthing was fresh and tasted super. I loved the doughy Naan bread! I am an Indian so I am particularly fussy about Indian cuisine. The food in Tamarind is true authentic Indian cuisine. Be aware, when the menu says the dish is spicey ... it will be spicey. Starters are around £4 to £7 Mains range from £7 to £10 Sides are £4 for a small portion and £7 for a large portion I had the The Tamarind Mix (£5.95) Lamb tikka, chicken tikka served with salad & mint sauce. The chicken was very succelent and the lamb was delicious. For my main meal I had Lal Gosht (£10.95) Tender lamb cooked in a typical Bangladeshi style with pumpkin in chefs special combination of spices . Medium hot. Truely mouth watering. My saag aloo side dish was also super.

On the strength of a decent take away, we decided to eat in. Firstly, the restaurant décor is decent, modern but not devoid of character. There were 3 other tables when we arrived, and 2 waiting staff. This should have been ample to allow for decent service, however 1 staff member was also taking out deliveries and the other was continually having to take incoming phone orders. So from the outset, the wait to be offered drinks / poppadum's was too long, as was the time it took for them to arrive (on both occasions, we were going to leave, but they produced what we had ordered, just in time) I'd advise you NOT to order Poppadums (we had 2) plus some very ordinary dips, this amounted to £5 (should have flagged it at the time, as looking at the menu online today, we were overcharged. The main dishes (as per our take away) were good. It would have been helpful however if the waiter had advised that one of the dishes, not listed on the menu, contained segments of orange in it, as this wouldn't be too a lot of peoples taste. We had to send back both naan breads, as they were laden with salt. The manager advised that chef had put salt into the mix as opposed to a 'sweeter ingredient' On this note, both the Manager and the staff acknowledged shortcomings and dealt with the issues well. This, combined with good main courses, gives them an average score, however there was enough going (or went wrong) to make a return visit unlikely.

We had a very nice meal at Tamarind, Hammersmith, London using a booking made through Last Minute.com. The deal was eat three courses and get 50% off FOOD. We had poppadoms and pickles followed by starters, main courses and desserts, plus drinks. When the bill came 50% had been taken off for the food except for the desserts. When we queried this we were told desserts didn't come into the 50% off category --- so they are not food??? Just a bit misleading as that was not mentioned by Last Minute.com.

We were all very pleased with food- the lamb Karachi was particularly good. After starters and main we finished with a floater coffee which was the perfect ending to a lovely evening. I visited Tamarind Hammersmith in June 2014 with a group of 5 friends. What first attracted us to the restaurant was its stylish modern interior and the first thing we noticed once inside was how clean the restaurant was. The service was good, and importantly prompt, and the food was really excellent. The restaurant does Bangladeshi and Indian food I believe which meant a fuller menu than the standardized menus available from most Indian restaurants I have come across. Price wise it was quite reasonable too, a main dish, rice and naan bread cost us around £12/13 each. We all had a main, rice, naan, 2 large sharing starter plates and a beer for just over £20 each. If you are looking for Indian/South Asian food in that area I would definitely recommend Tamarind

Randomly discovered this gem & I was wonderfully surprised by our very positive experience. The staff, albeit slightly over-eager at first, were efficient, friendly & helpful. The atmosphere was pleasing, tables & artwork attractive. The food by renowned Bangladeshi chef Tipu Rahman though was a revelation. Excellently prepared & presented. Fresh, light, colourful, flavourful, authentic, with some slightly unusual dishes. Highly recommend the Ghengis Said, Tamarind rice, Lasan mixed grilled vegetable plate & Cinnamon Duck.

my husband and i found this restaurant last minute because we were in the neighborhood, the restaurant is quite small but clean, staff are friendly and helpful when it comes to recommendations. food portion is fair (not great though, guess it has something to do with the 50% off).however, when we receive the bill, we found something seems a bit "fishy" to us:1. the bill is hand written. maybe this is normal, but so far we haven't been to any place that gives hand written bill.2. they charged 5GBP for the "Papadum" (? the crispy cracker most of Indian restaurants serve before meal, for FREE), the waiter explained the 5 pound is for that and the and the small dish of 3 flavored sauce. 3. there is 2GBP for 2 take-away foil box+1 plastic bag, again, we have never been charged for takeaway box and bags in London.4. when I ask for the hand written bill after paying, the waiter tear off the bottom of the bill-which only has the total amount not the details, and said it's UK law to keep for the restaurant to keep the detailed bill- later I asked waiter in another restaurant and a local friend, was told that was not the case. 5. out of the 3 dishes that recommended by the waiter, 2 of them are not on the menu, they explained that there are some problems with the current menu and the new ones are on the way--but the menu seems very new to us, and its the same with the menu on their website. the two items (one is fish, the other is lamb) are both been charged 12.95, the fish price seems normal compare to other fish dish on the menu, but the lamb seems to be over-priced as its seems very similar as lamb masala and the other lamb dishes on the menu are between 6.95-7.95.We told them at the beginning of the meal that we are new to UK, they seem to be very welcoming so we trust their recommendations and so on, only at the end we thought there seems to be something fishy with the bill but as we were given 50% off, we decide to just let go and simply not return again.

The food came out promptly and was of a high standard/very well presented. To sum up this eaterie gets a big thumbs up from me and I will certainly be going again when a ruby is on the mind!

Visiting in the middle of the week for a date night, the restaurant wasn't too busy and the staff were all friendly, seating us straight away. I hadn't been to a restaurant like this in a very long time and was wondering how it would turn out. The staff were on top of everything from when we arrived to when we left. Everything was ordered and arrived promptly, looking and smelling delicious. I was trying some foods out of my comfort zone and i'm very happy I did, they were absolutely amazing dishes. A nice touch was when the manager came round and asked if everything was good and seemed worried when some of the food was left over. Our reason was that the portions are quite big, he seemed genuinely concerned that we had disliked our food. The prices are a little higher than your average restaurant but that being said, this isn't your average restaurant, it is a delight to visit and totally worth the money paid.We went back again a few weeks later and the manager came over to us asking us if we had visited a few weeks ago because he thought he recognised us. With the amount of people that a restaurant has coming through it was a very nice surprise when he said he remembered us.All in all, this restaurant is a very good place to visit if you're in the area and looking for a tasty meal accompanied by friendly staff that can't do enough for you.

Four friends and I were intending to eat in a nearby restaurant but didn't fancy the food, so we wandered across to the Tamarind. What an excellent find. Apparently the restaurant has only been open six weeks, and is modern and stylish. It was also spotlessly clean. The food was all excellent, well cooked and presented, and the prices I thought were very reasonable. I don't find myself in London very often and expected to pay more. All five of us thoroughly enjoyed the meal. At the end the owner came out and asked us our opinion. He was clearly keen to impress and very enthusiastic about his business. I would certainly make a beeline for the Tamarind again should I be in the area.

I dined here with friends recently, and was so incensed, I felt I needed to become a Trip-Advisor member to let others know. I live in Hammersmith, and have done so for more than 20 years, and have never felt so compelled to report a dining experience. As a Tastecard holder, I called and booked a table. The deal was 50% off all food. We ordered 2 beers, starters, and popodoms. It's a well decorated place and looks great. The starters ordered were a mixed grill for 2, and a king prawn dish. Essentially, what came out was portion sizes 50% of what you would expect. I Informed the waiter that the portions were very small - and he said that it was because we were on tastecard!!! I asked him whether the offer was 50% off the price of food, or was it 50% of the food, for 50% of the price? ( he didn't quote follow ).When I mentioned that I might need to speak to the boss, the waiter said he would go and speak with the chef. Having done so, he returned to tell us that the potion sizes were that size for all tastecard users. Naturally, we were all shocked. Anyway, the main course came out. This time, they were a better portion size, but for the price, I would say considerably less meat in each dish than any of the local Indian restaurants in the area. The taste was good. Presentation is very modern/nouveau. High quality designer crockery etc.2 starters, 2 meat mains, 1 daal, 4 Naans and 3 beers plus popodoms - with 50% off the food bill, and a £10 service charge ( non discretionary) came to £60. Value? Certainly not. The policy to deliver small portions to Taste-card users is simply appalling. For a new restaurant looking to generate a clientele, this is not going to win them any fans.To confirm that the poor policy transcends all aspects of the restaurant, a small group of Antipodean sounding people came in reporting they had ordered from an online foodie website, and had waited 3 hours. Whilst they waited for news, we ate. The manager then reported that it wasn't their fault and that it was the websites fault. And, that they don't get paid for 1month from the website, and so it was difficult for him to refund money ( which is understandable). Any way, when the gentleman ( who was with 2 ladies) asked for some form of compensation, he didnt even get an apology, let alone an offer of a popodom or bhaji as a goodwill gesture. The demeanour and attitude towards these very well mannered, well presented group was again appalling. I would steer clear if you are using discount cards. I imagine that if you're paying full prices, you may have a better experience. However, as an NHS doctor, what comes to mind is - if we all all lived and worked this way, we wouldn't get very far.

My husband and I visited the restaurant with work colleagues. We booked the restaurant as there was a 50% off on food if booked through Toptable. When we entered, we informed the staff that we had booked through Toptable and would like to avail of the 50% discount on food. The staff told us that they have to pay £2 to Toptable as commission for each diner and he would charge £8 cover as we were 4 people. The staff treated us as though we committed a crime for not booking directly. We ordered the ocean platter for 2 which was clearly for 1 person. When we informed the staff, they said that 2 people can eat from it which was not true. We asked the staff for recommendation for the main course and they said that they will give is a variety of food and they will do us a good deal. They offered us dishes that were worth £18 - £20 when each main course averaged at £12 thereby trying to charge us more. The owner came to speak to us. He was very intrusive and was asking us very personal questions which we did not want to answer. When the owner realised that my husband and his colleague were at influential positions at a top London hotel, he started getting too pushy. He told them that he would like to visit the hotel and tell the guests to eat at Tamarind. He also wanted to click pictures of them and upload it on their Facebook page to show who had visited their restaurant and associate it with their workplace. A private and leisurely post-work dinner, turned into pushy sales. The staff gave us a handwritten bill with overwriting so that we could not understand the contents of the bill. They did not give us a full 50% discount. When we questioned them about it and asked for the copy of the bill, they were reluctant to give it to us. They tried to give us less food and charge us exorbitant prices. We will never go there again and would never recommend the place to anyone.

The restaurant was recommended to us, cause I was a visitor, coming from Germany. My first impression after entering the restaurant: how extraordinary, simple and modern at the same time. Even the paintings/art work were exklusively drawn for this restaurant. I had a nice conversation with the manager and he was very polite and was interested, if my husband and me were ok with everything and so was the service very accommodating. The starters were adorable. I ordered Peshwari Naan and Chicken Tikka Massala (more a sweet dish). Nice combination and the food was amazing. My husband ordered lamb dish and prawn with rice, which was also delicious. We booked table for two at 8pm on Saturday (29th March). When we got there we waited for a long time at the table for the menu, we were given it (Waiter didn't say anything, he just put the menus on the table and fled). He came back after 10 minutes & told us that they were extremely busy. They were all running like headless chickens, very unorganised & our order was taken 20 minutes after they had handed the menu to us. Two different waiters came later at different times & asked if we have ordered the food or not.Starters were delivered after another 30 minutes. The FRUSTRATION started when the main course did not turn up after 1 hour and a half. None of the waiters knew what they were doing, they were all panicking and running. Eventually I gave up and went to the bar, waited long time for someone to come in there and asked the man behind that we pay for whatever we had and then leave. Coincidentally there was another customer who was complaining about the delays as wel. The waiter kept apologising and told me that they were understaffed and under pressure. Thank God we had pizza in the house which only took 17 minutes in the oven.As per the food and restaurant, it's not Indian, it's 100% Bangladeshi. The starter we had, chicken tandoori was very much dry and tough but tasted good as they do in Bangladesh and Lamb seekh kewab was very tender and taastey as it should be done in India. So basically 3 star for the food, but zero star for being under staffed, disorganised and long delay in service.Take my advice and try other Indian restaurants nearby, I will not mention any names in particular but they all live up to standard.
