Our experience turned out to be very disappointing. I booked the table three months ago for 3.15pm and mentioned that one of our party was vegetarian. The lady who tooke the booking said she had no diary for 2020. When we arrived at 3.15 she said she was expecting us for 3.30 and had had no time to prepare a table. She told us to push two vacant tables together ourselves, which we did. She took our order, said she had no lemon for Earl Grey and that as she had no knowledge that one of us was a vegetarian, the order would take longer. The sandwiches were fine but the cakes were very poor and were just piled anyhow on the cake plate. She ignored us for the remainder of our time there. Very disappointing.

Saw the tea kettle sign out of the window of our hotel during a visit last summer. Had to check it out. Was not disappointed. We sat in the back, outside, on a sunny summer day. Bees flying around the beautiful flowering plants. Drank delicious tea and would've had something with it, hadn't we eaten shortly before. The owner is very welcoming and knowledgable. Bought delicious tea and am sipping on it right now.

I took my mum here for her birthday. A quaint, cosy tea shop. Ticked away just off of Western Road, Brighton. Email communications with Miriam was easy and informative. I had a few queries and requests and she was able to accommodate them. The young lady working on the day was friendly and inviting. She could describe the tea selection very well. The tea was delicious and the free refills (if you choose the same tea) is great on a chilly October afternoon! It was a lovely afternoon and my mum absolutely loved her birthday treat! Thank you!

we were the only people in the restaurant and waited one hour to be served by the grumpy waitress who seemed to resent our presence she certainly had no interest in giving us any information about the various teas on offer The rest of the meal, the scones, sandwiches (really disgusting) etc was tasteless and the cake was nearly inedible. The general atmosphere was great and uncared for. I was with two journalist friends fom France who were writing an article about English tearooms and I was embraressed.I live nearby and often pass this place: the same dusty. piles of magazines, battered and ancient box games, occasionally a few depressed tourists. No-one is ever smiling or looking as if they are enjoying themselves. .

We were looking forward to our pre-booked afternoon tea and were met by a very lovely lady who was polite and attentive. However, we were very disappointed with the quality of cake and sandwiches which were not freshly baked and we suspected were supermarket value quality. The decor and tables were shabby and sticky. The coasters were filthy and the amount of food for the price was shocking. The equivalent of one round of sandwiches, a slice of loaf cake, one stale scone each and less than half a brownie/blonde and a packet madeleine... obviously we ate and paid without complaint due to being polite and clenched Brits and the only customers. The Loo was also pretty shabby. Having said that, the Rose Tea was delicious but we were a bit surprised to be charged for a tea refill. Wouldn't recommend... sorry 🤷🏽♀️

I made the mistake of coming to this place twice - they might have changed the name (and owner) since my last visit or I simply didn't remember until I stepped foot into the outdated room in between residential buildings. It can be charming - if it will actually get renovated; however, it is run down and the food is far less charming and far more expensive than it is worth.

Hadden een teahuis gezocht op Tripadvisor voor een High Tea. Deze kreeg 4,5 op 5 dus we hebben de hele stad doorkruist om hier te komen. We waren echt teleurgesteld. Echt jammer...

The place has a lovely interior, and good tea, but don't go there if you want to have some quiet time! The emphasis here is on the TALK! We were warmly greeted and offered help in choosing our tea by the waitress/host. We settled into reading, some work on our laptops and a quiet conversation. Two guests then arrived and the waitress proceeded to help them select their order in the same way she did with us. But then she started a conversation with them that lasted a good 45 minutes, and dominated the whole space. She/they seem to be oblivious to the fact that they were in a public space with others around them and that they were rather loud. The whole impression of a great service was spoiled.

As a regular visitor to Brighton I always go for afternoon tea at Talk of Tea. Never again! The new owner has decided gluten free and vegan is the way forward. As a vegan who prefers gluten free food it is probably the worst cake I have ever had and the scones were inedible biscuits. For goodness sake get it right before you serve it! There are the most excellent vegan and gluten free afternoon teas available in Brighton but not at Talk of Tea. There is not even an option. All the cakes are gluten and flavour free . . . . and yet bizarrely the sandwiches were made with wheat flour! The vegan sandwich choice is ok and the lady who works there is hard working, polite and extremely helpful and efficient, but it must be hard to take pride in your work when the cakes and scones (which are the essence of English afternoon tea) are not only awful but truly inedible. For someone unused to gluten free food it must be even worse (if that's possible!). Sadly I will have to find somewhere else to take my visitors to. It still remains number one choice for tea . . . . . . but order the cakes and scones at your peril!

Was in Brighton visiting a friend, and we popped into this little tea shop that I had read about online. It was absolutely perfect with a long list of interesting teas. My friends is more of a coffee-drinker, and she had a well-made latte instead (I once worked as a barista in Melbourne, the most demanding city in the world in which to make coffee, so I feel qualified to judge coffee-making ability). This is a small and cosy and charming place. The scones were delicious, and there was no scrimping on jam or clotted cream. My friend's gluten-free cake made with almond flour was apparently very good too (she didn't share it with me). Will definitely be going back next time I am in town.

Although it was not busy, the young lady was clearly out of her depth. They have a wonderful choice of tea. But the sandwiches were served with crusts on. Scone and the clotted cream were great but the jam was bland. Quiet environment was a pleasure. None of the cakes appealed so I had the brownie but found it too sweet and cloying so gave up on it. We went just before lunch on a Friday to this cozy little lounge like tearoom with a lovely garden tucked away from the high street. I opted for the cream tea and friends had the hot chocolate and a Christmas smelling tea and scones, All for just over £5. A sea view is the only lacking factor for perfection.

A wonderful afternoon treat!!! This cute tea room is on a quiet street and is small, but that adds to the character. They had so many different teas and food options and all reasonably priced. I took my sister here for her birthday and she loved it.

My daughter saw this hidden gem on your Tripadvisor site and we decided to give it a try. We were very delighted with what we found. We would never have discovered this hidden gem on our own as it is in a street just off of Western Road. The setting was comfy and indeed like being in someone's home and we felt right at home. The service was very prompt, very helpful and very pleasant. The teas and sandwiches were good and as a vegetarian the fact that the sandwich fillings could be made up from two ingredients of your choice from their list meant that we weren't just stuck with the cheese option as so often happens. The scones melted in your mouth (delicious) and the generous portion of home made cakes superb. Two of us had the apple and cinnamon cake, one the blueberry and lemon and one the chocolate brownie. We all tried each others selection and they were beautiful. We had reserved our table (which is a bonus in Brighton on a Saturday) and they only have about 4 tables (2 large and 2 small) but we were never made to feel rushed like you do in a lot of places. Over all a great experience and great tea and food. Thank you very much we will definitely be back again.

I went in there with my friend and sat down. There was a family of three sitting on one table and a slightly deranged woman talking to the waitress about loose tea and what the smells are and what types there are. She then wanted the waitress to write down the type of tea she had just sold her which seemed to take up a good 5-10 minutes while everyone in the place was waiting. After the woman left, the waitress approached the family to ask for their order. Of course they ordered tea, with toasties. The waitress walked straight past my friend and I without saying anything, went to make tea for the family of three, delivered it to their table then proceeded to the kitchen to make their toasties. My friend and I had been waiting for 20 minutes by this stage and thought it unbelievable that we weren't even asked what we wanted so the waitress could brew our teas while she got on with other tasks.

I was living in Hove/Brighton for 2 years and this quirky cafe was one of my favourites. I have a confession- I don't like coffee at all; but I do love tea. I love tea in cups and saucers with the milk on the side. I love flavoured teas and 2nd flush teas. In fact having a tea menu is my idea of tea perfection! So to all you tea drinkers who want to relax and read a book or have a game of backgammon or just delight in the quirky ambiance-my suggestion is try this little gem of a cafe and enjoy!!

I must admit, liking a glass of wine or 2, that I was sceptical of this venue for the afternoon section of a hen do. I was wrong! It was cozy, conducive and completely delicious! Would highly recommend for a quick drop in it a planned event as I have never tasted cake so good!!

I visited Talk of Tea on 2nd of October with a girlfriend. On first impressions was of a grubby mis-match of styled interior. We decided to sit in the 'patio garden'. Our table was next to the outside toilet yuk!! The other table was next to the bins even yukkier!

Lovely, lovely cafe to go and have breakfast lunch or tea in. The people who work there are so nice and the service is great as is the food. Had a bacon sandwich which was the nicest have ever had as the bread was fluffy and the bacon cooked so nicely it took it onto a whole new level. They always have beautiful cards and artwork and things for sale ~ reminded me that I need to go there for Christmas gifts as it’s so lovely to get a handcrafted local artist item for not a lot ~ and it makes for such a personal present Bought a Brighton calendar and also a piece of framed art of the pier for a friend as a gift and am so pleased with them both. Note to self to go there for presents as well as a yummy stop off for some delicious food and drinks. Thank you 🙏

Just had to wait 40 minutes for breakfast and missed our train. I was told that the delay was because they were very busy, which clearly wasn’t true as the place wasn’t full. Our order had obviously got forgotten even though they were overstaffed. I counted 4 people serving about 15 customers. The staff were happily talking about their holidays and dating, and taking cigarette breaks, rather than checking the orders had been processed. The chef even came out for a coffee break and gossip - while we had been waiting 30 mins. In fairness they did apologise profusely and took some items off the bill. The breakfast was ok when it came but certainly not worth the wait.
