Amazing authentic food. Rich in flavour. Good quality meat and lots of it. Attentive host. Best curry around. 100% recommend if you want a good curry.

We gave this place a try for a Christmas Eve curry. Having read some of the bad reviews I wasn't holding out much hope but we were pleasantly surprised! Delicious food, all the dishes we ordered were authentic and had their own distinct flavour. Fresh warm naan bread and chapatis, good quality poppadoms. Lovely mango chutney and raita. Particularly recommend the ginger chicken and achari lamb (so tender), we also enjoyed the chicken pasanda and bombaywalla. Very nice pilau rice too. Ordered over the phone, was ready in half an hour.

Called in to get a takeaway for the first time here. VERY disappointing, the curry was flavourless, the Nann bread was dry likes sand paper and the rice had seen better days. AVOID!!

This is a revision of the review I originally wrote. Whilst the food was very good the service was very poor, unfriendly, unwelcoming staff. The table linen was unironed and didn't creat a very good impression. I originally said that I'd order a takeaway but I wouldn't eat in the restaraunt again, however having dodgy bowels for 3 days I'd probably avoid the Taj Mahal totally.

You can cook better yourself at home!!! Took 2 hours to arrive!!!!! And food was out of a tin! Avoid it like the plague., cold!!!

Ordered a takeaway to arrive at 2050hrs but it arrived >1.5hrs before that. Unsurprisingly didn't taste its best by the time we got round to eat it. Also, price wise it was very expensive (£9.95 for one of the curries and £3.25 for a fairly small paratha) and they only accepted cash. We won't use them again

I've been here so many times and live locally and i remember not long ago I wanted to pay by card. The man said they don't take card so I pointed at the card machine and said what is that then? The man made up some bs about it only being for delivery drivers?? Anyway, came here again tonight only to be told they don't accept card on a Sunday. So it seems like they just want to take cash. When I got home my partner said he paid by card last time and and was on a Sunday. Poor service to be honest, I'm just going to stick to Hay Indian where they don't care how you pay and don't want to be dishonest to customers.

It’s my third visit, once to eat in and twice to collect a takeaway and it won’t be my last. The food is great and they can’t do enough for you. Thoroughly recommended.

Meat had not been marinated - it all tasted the same. Very average curry. Probably better off going to the Coop and buying microwave meals

Very tasty fresh food. Service efficient and really reasonable prices. Don’t forget to take your own drinks. Would return.

We read on line that they were open until 11pm on Fridays and Saturday. So we turned up at 9.20pm on a Friday evening to be told they were closing at 9.30 so we’re only serving take aways!! Really not impressed as our room in our weekend accommodation was not set up to dine in. We felt we had no other choice so ordered our meals I asked for extra containers so we could mix our meals in them. I asked for two plastic forks too. The waiter agreed to this but as leaving I checked and they were not in the bag. Fortunately I was able to remind him ! And he rather ungraciously put them. I also asked for extra sauce with my biriani but I didn’t get that either. Tbh the food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed it. But the attitude of the staff with their we’ll close when we feel like it philosophy is not acceptable.

I went for dinner after a hard day's walking. All the dishes were absolutely fine, served in good time. They are not licensed ,so bring your own. It is not very large restaurant, so I feel they could have done better with the decor to make it more authentic, although the lack of background music is always appreciated.

Friendly service and superb food. I've eaten there regularly over the last few years and can highly recommend. My personal favourite is Lamb chilli garlic. Not licence, so take your own booze. So lovely to be back there after lockdown.

We rang up and ordered a take away when visiting the local area for a short holiday. Efficient service and friendly staff. The food was really outstanding - the curry was very authentic and tasty, all completely different yet all gorgeous. The meat was also fantastic quality. Generous portion sizes as well. Also a nice amount of heat in the ones that were advertised as hot. So good that we are going to order again before we return home.

Had an amazing Indian take away from here. Staying locally and not from the area, this place was recommended to us, we were only a few miles away so decided to collect, as you get 10% discount if you collect. The food was extremely tasty, service good and prompt.

We had a takeaway from Taj Mahal during a recent holiday in Kington. Superb choice including several dishes that we tried as we'd never seen them on an Indian restaurant menu previously. All very tasty and portion sizes were generous. Would recommend and would use again when we're in the area

Despite a long wait to be served the food was definitely worth waiting for and with BYO alcohol a great value meal

Had a takeaway from here as we have never tried it and it was very good.. food was hot and the servings very good.. Ordering was made really easy by doing it online. The only takeaway in kington to offer online Ordering payment and delivering. Although I only ordered on line I could still pay when I picked it up and received a 10 percent discount.. all in all very good

To begin, we didn’t realise how much we loved Indian food until we visited the Taj Mahal in Kington, we were looking to move to the area and decided we would try the restaurant one evening, the service was extremely friendly and delivered with a smile, the food was extremely fresh and cooked perfectly, we have tried plenty of Indian restaurants before and the care and service provided here was so much better than we have ever experienced.3 month down the line and we relocated to Lyonshall, we were delighted to hear the Taj Mahal, we’re more than happy to deliver to us, so pretty much every Saturday we get the beautiful food delivered, always on time, always delivered with a smile.....and most importantly always perfectly fresh steaming hot and most enjoyable Indian food we have ever tasted...so much that I don’t think we would ever try another Indian Restaurant. We have even tried things off the menu we wouldn't ordinarily try.Even through lockdown, the staff at the Taj Mahal did everything in there power to keep serving the beautiful food for delivery while going out of there way to adhere completely to the government guidelines at the time.If your in the Kington area, I would highly advise you try the Taj Mahal for yourself, I’m sure you will be very pleased.

went here last week, seeing as it's the only one in the village we had no choice to give it a go. when we arrived it was empty and a touch cold. the staff duly bobbed the heating on which helped a bit. ordered some starters which were fine and the main course was ok. nothing to write home about but passable. it's not licensed so you'll need to take your own booze.

Visited with friend on 22/2/20 for evening meal.I had chicken pathia,friend had chicken massala.We also had also Gobi aloo,sag aloo,gobi massala, this was all hot ,tasty superbly cooked.It was unplanned evening meal and so enjoyable😀This place is very sociable with staff so excellent,thankyou.

After being recommended, with all the hype, not delivered.Had the special King Prawn meal and the chicken chilli Massala.Sadly some flavour but lacked the intensity I expected.King Prawn dish lacked heat, bland and more like a Korma.Chicken chilli Massala was good, but not great.Popadoms were the best part of the meal, rice dish worryingly small, just enough for two. Nan was very good.Won't go back

We have only lived in Kington about 3 weeks and have used the Taj Mahal 3 times for takeaways already as we have no kitchen at the moment. The food and service are superb. Best curries we have had in years and we used to live not far from Birmingham so have had many good curries. Well done, keep up the good service and quality. We will be regulars!

Visited this restaurant as a result of a family recommendation and was not disappointed. Food was very good and the staff were friendly and polite. We tried chicken achari, chicken balti , butter chicken and tandoori mixed grill and no one was disappointed. Definitely worth a visit.

A lovely clean restaurant with friendly staff.The dips which accompanied the poppadom were so tasty. They had one which I have never had before which was bright red as one of the ingredients was beetroot. You must try it, stunning. All 3 dishes were different as were the rice and we shared. We all agreed a wonderful meal was had and cooking was of a high standard. Would definitely go again.

We had an excellent meal here, with really good and friendly service. The food was freshly cooked and very tasty. Excellent value for money. £37 for two courses for two with sides and extras. Bring your own alcohol. Highly recommended.

This is mostly a take-away establishment, but I was very well seated and served. Great garlic and chili curry, garlic rice, and cauliflower bhaji.

Passed through Kington and stopped here for a quick meal. Excellent food with very reasonable prices. Service was quick and unobtrusive.

Food was super greasy. Chips completely inedible I refused to let my son eat them even after I tried to cook them further in my oven. Forgot half of our order. The only good thing was it was cheaply priced. But that’s probably due to the bad cuts of meat used and cheap rice. Never again.

My first visit and, as someone who enjoys Indian food, I was looking forward to trying out this restaurant. I was an early diner and one guy seemed to be doing everything until evening staff arrived. A bottle of water from the chill unit was only just cold, the chicken cooked in a tandoori oven should have been piping hot but wasn't.Looking at other reviews maybe I was just there on an off night.

I had popadoms with chutney, Paneer Chilli for a starter and lamb Balti for a main with a stuffed paratha. Truly sumptuous food! Delicious fresh flavours. Everything was cooked to perfection. My partner had popadoms, shami kebabs, tandoori mixed grill and pilau rice. He loved it. Bring your own drinks Great price, friendly service and seriously delicious food.

My work colleagues and I had a meal in the cosy restaurant - the service was excellent and the food was absolutely superb, at a price cheaper than most other Indian restaurants I have been to. It's a pity the rating only goes up to 5 stars as I wanted to award more - best ever!

Have had sit down meals, take aways and deliveries from the Taj Mahal and always excellent. But last weekend they surpassed themselves when we rang at 8pm on Saturday evening to order a delivery for 16 of us. We expected mistakes but within the hour the meals were delivered piping hot (we are 7 miles away) and everbodys in seperate bags with our names on.Properly the best service we've ever come across....well done....

Perfect for when you really don't want to cook. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food tastes great and menu suits all preferences.

Awful takeaway, veg balti was tinned veg in a bland sauce. Chicken Korma no flavour and not much chicken. We have all got bad tummies this morning 🤢

Looking for a curry we happened upon the Taj Mahal and we were not disappointed. Friendly staff and prompt service made this a great experience. Bring your own beer for a great experience.

Went with friends who said that it had changed hands and renovated. Used to be called Zara I think. Not overly big, about 20 covers, but very friendly staff with a reasonable menu choice. All four of our meals were excellent. It isn't licensed but you can take as much alcohol as necessary. They do sell soft drinks.
