Hands down the best Indian/Bangladeshi food in all of Bournemouth/Dorset. If you are visiting the area you have to come and try their food. The service is fast and on time, and they will always have a smile on their faces. Great menu, lots of sides and mains to pick from, with lovely flavours. The Atmosphere has lots of warm lighting giving it a cozy feel. Very clean and sanitary. Will be back again!

This is the best Indian restaurant we’ve been to in Dorset! The service was great, the atmosphere and the food was perfect. Will definitely be back.

Dhansak was terrible worst I have ever had bland and the only flavour an overpowering taste of cardamon. both veg korma and dhansak barely warm and needed heating up, Lamb Tikka starter small also. Had not ordered from here for 2 years as last order poor. sad I decided to give a second chance, will never order from here again

Wrong order - I ordered coconut rice, but one that is with peas and spiced. The Korma wasn’t great either.

Just ordered on collection and was disappointed. I had on a few occasions previously been really happy with the takeaway but tonight was not up to its usual standard. My rice was overcooked and watery and the chips(says on menu) were actually french fries and were cold and soggy. I understand it's a takeaway but still, it should be better than that!

biryani was excellent, one of the tomatoes that came with my bhaji was a bit manky though

Guys, don't put Dal Makhani on your menu when you don't know how to make it or you lacking time to make the proper stuff. It tasted awful and nothing like the real thing. That is one of the best vegetarian indian dishes and you just ruining the reputation of it. Get it off your menu, honestly.

Had dinner here last week and the food was good. The menu is vast and there are plenty of good options. The portions are quite small, especially the rice. The service is very good, all staff are friendly and helpful.

Unusually, the food delivered was so much poorer than our previous orders. The sauces were extremely watery and lacked taste, especially the korma!

Food is not bad. What is most striking however, is the very outdated decor, which does not really give a sense of cleanliness. Unfortunately, the restaurant is not the most welcoming. Considering that the food is decent, a friendlier/attentive service and an interior redesign could improve the customer experience (personal opinion). Over the past 20 years I have travelled for business (and otherwise) and have discovered a lot about the restaurant business. As usual this review is based food quality, staff attitude, atmosphere and local-standard value for money.

I went to the restaurant with my partner and 12 year old. Just to say the food was excellent. I liked that they had a children's menu, my son had chicken Rogan Josh with chips and the portion was just right for him. I had chicken shashlik and it was delicious. Friendly staff, reasonable prices.

It's the third time we have ordered a delivery and I am sorry to say the starters ( chicken tikka, onion bahjis and the kebab) were awful they were very overcooked and dry and we couldn'teat them. The breads were tasteless. The main meals were lovely and tasty and what we are used to. We will order again and hopefully this is a one off bad day.

A curry house like they used to be. Excellent service and decent traditional 'Indian' food (by that I mean of the British Indian restaurant type). Tired decor but kind of like that. Efficient and friendly staff.

The dining experience at Taj Mahal restaurant was absolutely delightful. The ambiance and decor added to the excellent food.

Food was cold, vegetable korma was tasteless and mostly cabbage. Chicken Tikka Masala sauce was very wet. We both left our food disappointed.

Lacked so much seasoning, whitewashed the food because they think brits cant take a little heat, very nice service kind people and all but having found a blonde hair in my starter dish and having an overly sugary dish I fail to believe they still have someone who knows what they are doing in the kitchen let alone someone even wearing a hairnet, overall come here for a nice drink and a nice starter hopefully without hair, but I wouldn’t recommend if you don’t want a sugar rush on the verge of diabetes. Was told the Indian food was fantastic in England but this place was an absolute disaster food wise and it seems whoever is responding to this criticism is in absolute denial.

There are mixed reviews for this restaurant however I have to say that my friend and I enjoyed our recent meal at the Taj Mahal on a busy Wednesday evening. The menu was extensive, the food freshly prepared and delicious and the service very attentive. I would come back again.

Great friendly service and amazing authentic Indian cuisine. The gentleman serving us was very attentive, was fairly priced for what we had. They also have a great Buffett offer on a Tuesday which we will definitely come back for! Thank you

Lovey food and staff, the only complaint would be the instant coffee to make the Irish coffees and normal coffees which were awful! Doesn't take much to serve fresh coffee x

i ordered two items and recieved one disgusting incorrect item. when i tried to ask for a refund or my correct order i was told i could not. very bad

This is without a doubt the worst curry I have ever had. I went with 2 friends and we all thought it was awful. Me and one friend had the bhuna masala which is literally described as the most beautiful dish ever made on the menu and it was overly sweet and bland. The rice was over cooked and mushy and the keema naan had barely any keema in it. My other friend who had the tikka masala said it was sour and not very nice at all. We shall not be returning.

We arrived on time but no booths available so sat us down on a table near the back of the restaurant. It was explained to them that they should have kept one of the booth tables available at that time but they didn't apologise or seem to care. Eventually, and fortunately, one of the groups were leaving in the booth so we moved into there was the table was cleared and cleaned. Service was terrible throughout. Period. Apart from some parts of the lamb being okay, it was fatty and I had to discretely remove. Mater paneer was horrible, tasted of nothing, sauce was thin and the cheese tasted like plastic. The bill for just two of us was extortionate with a tikka masala on it's own (no rice) costing £14.95 alone!! No greeting on way in or way out even though there were two staff members at the bar who saw us walking out. Some further points to address, that the decor is dated. I'm aware they are going for authenticity but it felt dirty, shabby and dingy. Also, the toilets were absolutely disgusting with what looked like the floors hadn't been cleaned for sometime, broken parts to appliances left on side, cobwebs and grit and dirt on window shelves, taps hardly worked. Ordered from Taj Mahal last night and have been vomiting since 3am. Unless you want food poisoning, steer clear (which is a shame as the dishes were tasty)

The Peshwari Paneer was delicious but the vegetable rice appeared to be vegetable curry squashed and added to some rice. Not pleasant. The chicken tikka Ceylon turned out to be lamb and the chicken Dhansak was sub-standard in that the lentils were under cooked and far from being medium to hot, turned out to be mild. Not how you want a Dhansak to be at all. Such a shame after such a good start previously, as well.

By far the best Indian restaurant in the area. The food is divine and the service is impeccable - the whole experience makes me so happy with every visit. Deserves more than 5 stars!

So we went as a party of 7 table booked for 8pm arrive on time had to wait until 840pm to be seated. The meal was awful we felt rushed nobody asked if all was ok we were totally ignored then the bill came with a £19 service charge on we asked for the bill to be paid individually so 3 of us then 2 lots of 2 the bill was £220 so waiter came over with calculator and worked out meals as we asked and the total then was £165 for food etc with £19 service charge it was £184 so what the other £36 was for nobody knows thank goodness we checked other wise we would of paid way more than needed!! The waiter and the manager went away after we all paid and said they would come bk if any discrepancies well of course there were non because they were trying to over charge us!!! They did offer us a drink at end of eve but the damage was already done the eve was a shambles due to the restaurant staff being rude from the start.

Got it delivered and the driver was so incredibly rude down the phone because he couldn’t find our house. We had chicken and it was tough and pink inside! Naan was decent.

Sadly we did not enjoy our first visit to this Restaurant having just moved to the area, found the decor to be so so 70s, staff rushing about, no personal touch…asked for poppadoms with pickle tray and extra onions, our personal choice but just ended up with pickle tray, main meals were ok but lacking flavour, although plenty of chicken, but would have preferred taste, rice came as the smallest portion we have ever seen, ordered garlic and coriander Nan well this was the biggest joke the Nan was 100% out of a packet…..asked why the Nan had no coriander and was told that the Restaurant does not use coriander at all, I was at a loss to comment…….you also get charged extra if you change from the menu by heat strength ? So if you ask for a little hotter dish you get charged, in my 40 + years of eating Indian food I have never come across this ……

This review is long overdue! My girlfriend and I have been coming here for years, and "G-Man", the owner, goes out of his way to make us feel comfortable every time. A lovely warm atmosphere, and immaculate food that hits the spot like nothing else. By far the best curry we've had this side of Brick Lane.

First and last visit. Today i had a taste less dinner experience in Taj mahal Westbourne I ordered lamb tikka which is very hard to chew not well cooked when I mentioned this thing to staff they said sir from the next time we will see into this after that in main course the food is not too good overall experience is very bad we went there for some celebration but mood off now.

Lamb was uncooked in the curry we ordered, prawns curry which we specifically asked to make it hot (guilty) gave us nightmares and we all had our stomach upset the following day as well. Popaddam was not roasted completely on complaining the manager argued that it was cooked properly and told that that's how it's eaten 😂. Serving staff was kind and courteous that's the only good thing about this place. If you ever feel like facing racism in a desi restaurant by your own people, feel free to visit this place.

Excellent, food (cooked by an award winning chef) with friendly and polite service. Great value too. The selection available was extensive and everything arrived at our table, freshly cooked ant piping hot. Will definitely use this restaurant again when we next visit the UK. Needless to say, the restaurant has a 5***** hygiene rating. I attach a photo of one of the many awards and certificates on display - I am sorry that the photo is not very clear - it was taken with my phone.

One word. Pathetic food. Half cooked lamb curry gave us nightmares. Manager was rude, other staff was good. They have ruined the name of Indian cuisine & Tajmahal together. Go to India. ocean near Pool hill if at all you want to have good Indian food.

Just received a yummy Indian take away, delivered bang on time , 2 delicious curries, 2 tasty rice & a cheesy nan for £24.50 What a bargain, if you spend £30 you get 20%off - amazing, such a treat after working & cooking for a family all week, thank you taj mahal- always consistent, fresh hot food 👍

Had really bad experience at Taj. I ordered shahi paneer there and they served me 2-3 pieces of paneer with 5-6 pieces of potatoes. I asked one of the staff that I ordered shahi paneer but why it contains potatoes. But he said this is the way they cooked shahi paneer. And the taste was also weird. But chicken tikka was delicious.

I always love eating at the Taj Mahal. It is probably the least pretentious and most authentic Indian restaurant in Westbourne. Never had a bad meal here.

Unfortunately the food was very poor quality and cold when delivered. Tried to contact the restaurant but had no reply. Very disappointed.

Our family have been getting a take away from here for the last few years but for my Fiancé's birthday we decided to dine in and it was brilliant! The staff are very friendly and welcoming and honestly gave us a wonderful service, the food as always was perfect. I was very happy that they also sang happy birthday while bringing out our dessert 😁 Thankyou so much to everyone at Taj Mahal. We'll be back again soon!

Service was good, food was average, I asked for chopped garlic and chilli on my shashlic, didn't get either. Food was OK but not what I ordered and therefore a bit bland.

Very happy with our take out meal this evening. Ordered lamb dhansak, chicken tikka masala, nan bread and poppadoms. Will be going back to try out the restaurant soon.

Food sounds amazing but did not deliver at all. Food was bland at best. There was alot of it but for the money expected it to be better.

I ordered via Uber eats. The tandoori chicken was RAW! And the chicken tikka starter was extremely dry, looks like they have used old chicken. Do not go here unless you want to risk your health. I've attached a photo of the raw chicken.

A very disappointing meal, the poor quality of all of the meat was shocking and was in part inedible.

C'était délicieux et les serveurs étaient très gentils. Le prix est très raisonnable (le menu du mardi très avantageux!). Les plats étaient plus gras que d'habitude pour un resto indien. ;-) Mais nous le conseillons vivement.

Tuesday Banquet -Joking! Took my teen daughter for a banquet - really!!!-left hungry. Both Had shiek kebab to start -1 kebab per portion ( normally 2 in a portion) Had a side of onion Bhaji with main- 1 Bhaji between 2 people - daughter asked -shall i cut it in two dad? I chilli on top of my Chicken jalfrezi - had to ask for more. Kept taking the mint source away after poppodoms ( charged extra - no problem) and kebab. Left not feeling we'd had a bad meal- just absolutely ripped off. Never felt that before!! Won't be back.

Superb food, as always. Arrived piping hot, and still have plenty left to enjoy again tomorrow. Thanks to all at the Taj - still the absolute best anywhere around.

I have used this restaurant for years now always have had good food and the service has always been good .Booked a table for 8 pm for 8 friends the restaurant was not busy buy their normal standards but although they were very attentive i felt we were being rushed the food was superb as always but they kept hovering around us wanting to clear away when members of the party were still eating so this i found annoying as we were having a nice chilled time. Eating out is not cheap these days but to be hit with a 10% service charge which amounted to £27 i feel this was a bit much as we would all have left a tip as we always do so for this we were not to pleased with them. A i said food excellent service charge not happy with .

We chose this restaurant as a place to meet with friends last night. Although the food was good, we felt a little rushed. We still had several poppadoms left, when the waiter cane and asked if we'd finished with them. As we were paying for them, we felt we should be allowed to finish them at least? The restaurant wasn't overly busy, yet they started to remove plates whilst some members of our group were still eating. But the biggest disappointment I felt, was a service charge added to our bill!! We spent approx £266 on food and drink and each of us would have happily added a tip, but when we saw the service charge of nearly £27, we immediately decided no. Sadly, for that reason alone, we won't be returning to this restaurant. Service charges like that are rude, presumptuous and a sure fire way of putting people off. Most people are happy to tip. It would be far nicer if a place waited for this, rather than automatically adding their own.
