An exquisite blend of taste, service and atmosphere. I’ve come to Indian Ocean hoping to receive a semi-decent dinner while staying in Bournemouth and received a divine Naga Lamb Curry. I would highly recommend the curry (if you can handle the spice) and if if you can’t they’ve got plentiful more. 10/10 would recommend everyone to come down and visit.

The whole family wanted some good indian food and there are several indian restaurants around so we decided on this one following the good reviews. We were not disappointed, everything we had was excellent, very tasty. The plates were served hot and sizzling on the table, the naans, the papadums were all very good. The dishes were a bit pricey (the prices clearly had changed from the one on their website) but you do have plenty of food to enjoy. The staff was very nice and the place had a calm and sweet atmosphere. We had a great time!

Absolutely incredible experience – a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Indian cuisine! We had just finished a 2-day family break at Paultons Park and headed to Bournemouth for another short stay. Craving some good Indian food (the kids especially missed their rice and curry!), a close friend highly recommended this spot—and I’m so glad he did! From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch. We started with the mixed grill—packed with flavour—and the tandoori chicken was so tender and juicy I couldn't resist using my fingers! My daughters loved every bite. For mains, we had the chicken karahi, lamb rogan josh, rice, and bread—everything was bursting with flavour. The staff were incredibly attentive, making sure we were looked after the entire time. They even treated the kids to ice cream, which was a lovely touch. The ambience was warm and welcoming, the prices were very reasonable, and we were even given hot towels at the end—a detail you don’t see often these days. We had a great chat with the chef and staff, all of whom made us feel right at home. If you’re in Bournemouth, this place is an absolute no-brainer for dinner. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit. Highly recommended—tell your friends, too! Thanks again to the amazing team—we’ll definitely be back!

I asked for extra salt, so they even gave me extra salt in a separate chutney cup, just in case! 😄 The food is also reasonably priced. Friendly service. On one order, I ordered only 1 lamb biryani. When I arrived, they had 2 ready. When I told them I only ordered one, they told me to just take the other one. I did pay for it, though. On another delivery, my wife forgot to order plain rice. I returned to collect one, and they did it free of charge. I always look at food hygiene. This place was clean out front. The dining area was nice and clean (no sticky floors). The best thing is the door to the kitchen was open so you can see into it. This shows they are confident in their hygiene levels too! Great food👍🏽 great service👍🏽 clean reastaurant👍🏽 I will definitely return during future stays in Bournemouth and would most definitely recommend to friends and family.

We arrived early but in the nik of time as it began to get busy and we know why. The greeting & atmosphere was lovely, gentle & efficient. The food was very good, we couldn't fault it at all. We will definitely recommend & return!

We found this place on our recent trip to Bournemouth, the place is nice and comfy. The service is ok, the waiter was a tad impatient with us because we were taking a while deciding what to have. I ordered a small glass of wine ended up bringing a much larger and of course charged me a such. The food is good, tasty and good portions, the price is average more on the expensive side. The dessert for us was the let down as the Kulfi pistachio was not great. Also another thing to note is that this place does nothing if you mention that is your birthday, in other places you get at least a small dessert with a candle in this place nothing. So if you are looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion this might not the place for you. Overall an ok place with relative good service

We ate here on a Monday approx 7pm Friendly staff great food would highly recommend if looking for an Indian. We ordered the tandoori mixed grill, madras curry sauce , Veggie Biriyani and had poppadoms - chutneys were good and plain naan bread.

I have only had Deliveroo takeaway from Indian Ocean despite living only a few minutes walk away. I guess that's modern life getting in the way. A takeaway takes half an hour to eat with a cheap bottle of supermarket wine versus an hour and a half or more in a restaurant. Of the 20 or 30 meals I've had delivered to me over the last 6 or so years, they have all been excellent with the exception of today's. I don't usually review places I haven't personally visited, but I can only presume that Indian Ocean is under new management and the food quality has been significantly impacted. Today, I ordered a Balti and a Naan. The Naan was a long way from being fully cooked and had the feel of chewing raw dough. The Balti was also somewhat under cooked and had no 'gravy', I am unfamiliar with the term used for the sauce in a curry. I must recommend to the multitude of people to whom I have recommended Indian Ocean that they instead visit Winton Tandori, a restaurant that continues to satisfy every time.

As a seasoned couple of a certain age 🤪 we have eaten Indians for over 40 years all over the uk. We stumbled on the Indian Ocean whilst staying in Bournemouth for the weekend. The service from entering to leaving was exceptional and we even got to chat to the amazing chef at the end of the night. The food was fantastic, one of the best, if not the best we have experienced. We had the poppodoms and pickles to start, these were non greasy, fresh and crisp and the yogurt dip was sooooooo good 👍 We then shared a prawn Madras, garlic naan, egg fried rice and a saag chana that the restaurant made specifically for us. It’s hard to explain the quality and taste of all of the food, except to say, flavoursome, fresh tasting, with generous portions and an abundance of prawns in the curry. A nice warm hand cleaner afterwards, chocolate mind and a friendly chat with the owner to be informed that the red had won a top Southwest award for excellence. Please visit this restaurant as you will not be disappointed. If I could give it more starts I would 👍

Bit disappointing, the thing is I'm not the biggest fan of onions. Now that's cleared up, when I arrived at the Indian Ocean (without armbands, because I'm a big boy now)...I was looking forward to the meal, the outside looked nice, the inside was fairly busy too. However, as I'm not the biggest daredevil when it comes to having a curry (yes I'm a Korma guy, some times even a tikka masala, or Pasanda - check me out); I reviewed the menu to find that most dishes have onion in them. Now, I hear you say, ask them to take it out then you muppet, and oh believe me, you and I are thinking very much alike at this point. But the waiter had other ideas...when I asked to select 2 different curries (which stated it had onion in - and the other did not), I was politely informed the onion would not be removed from the dish as its in the sauce. Fairly odd I thought, as they should be making it in the kitchen, and can just not put the onions in...but nonetheless, I'm here for a goodtime , not a long time! So I say, okay okay, not to worry, let's stick with the good ol' reliable Chicken Tikka Masala...then I joked, that doesn't have onion in it does it? The waiter pauses as he see's me chuckle in ignorance... and vacantly responds "yes, yes it does". As you can tell (and may even be pleased to hear by this point) this wiped the smile off my face, quicker than a rotten ass burp clearing a crowded lift. I stammer in sheer disbelief, "sorry? Are you sure?" He almost smiles as he replies, "yes it definitely has onion"...at this point, I'm not sure if he's winding me up or being deadly serious...I turn to my company and say, where have we ever had a tikka masala with onion in it? Now don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not one to tell another how their dishes are made, nor to what they should contain...but I've yet to come across another curry house that are putting onions in their tikka masala? I drop to my knees at this point, and emplore the waiter A.K.A Mr Onion Ambassador himself - please take the hjpta onions out of the tikka masala. I'll do anything! He did, I ate it, wasn't that bad, but overall 6/10. If you've come this far - blimey, how much time did you have on your hands?

I came here first in December 2023 while working locally and staying in a hotel nearby. I returned for a week's work this year and insisted on the hotel closest to this restaurant so I could enjoy it some more. As a vegetarian, I adore Paneer. Their Paneer Tikka main is the best one had in a very long time. Very generous portion, cooked to perfection and seasoned well. Friendly and attentive staff, lovely owner. On my return in 2025, its just as good as I remember. Staff recognised me and pretty much remembered my exact order.

One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to! Honestly, this Indian restaurant is a gem. The cuisine is incredibly fine, very well crafted and full of flavors. The prices are really fair, especially given the quality and generosity of the dishes. I was alone that day, but frankly, the portions were so generous that I could have easily shared with my girlfriend if she had been there. I had an absolutely delicious coconut rice, as well as a “tawa” (which was simply excellent). Little advice: don't be fooled by the fact that there aren't necessarily many people inside, because the quality is indeed there. Only downside: they don't serve lassi. But frankly, it’s a detail that doesn’t detract from the experience. If you like Indian cuisine and you're in the area, go for it with your eyes closed!

I did my usual research before booking, as there are a lot of Indian restaurants to pick in Bournemouth. This one had many positive reviews and my favourite Level 5 for Scores On The Door. We went on a Friday night with a table reserved for 4 people at 7pm. We were the first people to arrive and all through the time we were there, it was very quiet. I cannot fault the actual restaurant and the food was excellent. The cheapest white wine on offer was £24.25, just FAR too expensive for such wine. The main person that served us, seems to be the owner or manager (not sure), but he was just very forgetful, especially when the place was almost empty !! We had to ask more than once for a few things. So I'm knocking two stars off my review, because there was no reason for this. We spent £130, shame the level of service did not reflect the pricing. Would we go again ? Yes, we would give it one more chance.

I got takeaway twice this week from here absolutely gorgeous delicious curry, hot and flavoured fresh rice and fresh hot naan. Very reasonable price and very professional and friendly staff. Fast and easy going service. Recommend if you are visiting Bournemouth and looking for a nice Indian restaurant to eat at!!

Visited Bournemouth with friends and booked in for four people Tuesday 25th November. Nice friendly greeting and the restaurant was very tastefully decorated. Chicken Pathia was as good as my local and King Prawn Jalfrazi was said to be spot on. My wife had the Mixed Kebab starter as a main meal and was very impressed. Generous portions (couldn't eat everything!). A really nice Indian restaurant. Highly recommended.

Good restaurant but very overpriced - obvious shocker being that plain rice is £4.15, pilau £5.15. Curries mostly around £17. So coming in alone for a meal and a coke, you're likely to spend £25. When most dishes in an Indian restaurant are (and by rights by could and should) be made in batch and sat there ready to serve up rather than made to order, it really is crazy money.

Food was cold, onion barges where greasy, madras was to hot, make it slight less & enjoy the flavours would be so much better.

Fabulosa comida, muy fresca y cocinada excelentemente, personal muy amable y servicial que te hace sentir muy bienvenido. Pedí tandoori parrilla mixta (deliciosa) y mi pareja tenía el Korai de langostino rey (que no hemos visto antes, y también estaba delicioso). También muy servicial con los niños - nuestro niño de cinco años le encantó el pollo tikka y quería ir a la noche siguiente, así que lo hicimos (estuvimos en Bournemouth por unos días). Muy recomendable, estaba ocupado en las tardes de lunes y martes cuando visitamos, así que probablemente es recomendable reservar primero si quieres visitar en un fin de semana.

I recently dined at Indian Ocean and had a delightful experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting, and the service was prompt and friendly. Food was nice but arrived luke warm so had to heat it up. I ordered a curry with lamb, chicken and king prawn. Unfortunately there was only one single prawn. Poppadum also tasted stale/soft.

The restaurant was fairly busy and sevice was ok until they appeaed to have forgotton our drinks. Both of us found the main courses rather bland both from a spice viewpoint and also from a heat viewpoint: we asked for medium, but they seemed to be quite mild. At almost £70 (including the almost universal 10% service charge), it seemed overpriced.

I ordered Vegetable Biryani for take away which was easily one of worst biryanis I have ever had. I mean biryani is supposed to be full of flavours but it was bland, tasteless. It did not smell or taste like biryani, all I could taste was just rice and oil. The gravy served on side of biryani was unusual and it was tasteless too.

The staff acknowledged you straight away. When we made our choices we were asked for spice level. The food was lovely, we ordered vegetable biriyani, tarka daal and tawa chicken with tandoori roti. Would have appreciated some poppadoms whilst waiting for our food and maybe a bit of salad which is usually the norm in an Indian restaurant but anyway would go back here again.

An absolute delight! Visited with my mum over the August BH weekend for a dinner. Place was busy BUT - the owner himself and his team made sure all the guests were promptly attended to and looked after. The team/staff were polite and smiling. We personally enjoy the sizzling dishes and their fish tikka did not disappoint with soft chapatis, crispy poppadums, delicious pickles and chutneys. Will visit again if and when I go back to Bournemouth.

Very good and attentive service. Great! The food - here Chicken Vindaloo - was spicy but not too spicy. The chef came especially to explain the level of spiciness. Class! The location (busy street) and the ambience, including the music that was a bit too loud, were still ok. - overall highly recommended - 4.8 stars for me!

Visited on a busy Saturday night and was glad we had pre- booked. We both enjoyed our curries mine was lamb achari and I must say it’s the nicest curry I have had in a long time . My husband had chicken tikka shatkira which was also good. There were a few mistakes but quickly rectified, the garlic was burned in one dish, giving that horrid pungent taste, there was no hesitation recooking the dish. Then I was charged for a glass of wine I didn’t get, again sorted straight away. All in all a good night with fantastic food,

Ordered mattar paneer and naans for myself, but the curry was having very less salt making it less tasteful.. I am from India and in my lifetime eaten in many indian restaurants, therefore the expectation was high and also the time taken was quite high, almost 20-25 minutes for take away.

Went for dinner and ordered drinks first which was a Budweiser beer and lime soda. After taking few sips found that the beer was expired (on 31st July). Then i was told to get another brand instead. Ordered vegetarian kadhai paneer, okra curry as sides, garlic naan and tandoori roti. Kadhai paneer is very expensive 16 pounds and was not even close to kadhai panner taste. Okra curry was salty and okra was very bad quality and hard. Naan was hard and thick. So i would not recommend this restaurant for food at all and the negligence for serving expired products. The service was nice but the food is very average and expensive.

Came here as a birthday treat, we had only just been seated and hadn't even had time to look at the menu and the wait staff were hovering over us to take our order, (I appreciate being eager to serve but there's such a thing as breathing space). We ordered poppadoms, came with dips which was unexpected, the chutney was delicious however the mains took a very long time to arrive. Food was on par with take away, nice but nothing special the rice was large enough for two people in my opinion. Was given a hot towellette and an After 8 mint by the lovely lady working there, which i imagine was supposed to counterbalance the 10% service charge that was not advertised or explained at any point. Overall I would say it's overpriced for what you get and the man I'm assuming is the owner needs to stop making people feel rushed, it will lose you customers.
